    Have you ever posted a video about your own adventure, what you found how you fixed it? I am obsessed with Ireland and love watching you!

    I just think back to whenever I stayed with my Nan - No central heating her whole life, superser in her most used room and electric blankets or hot water bottles for bed.

      Sounds like my house now. Well minus the electric blankets. It’s mad how our grannies could live with this and so many of us find it terrifying 😂

    Love your programme and videos. " Been there and done that" back in the 70's/ 80's. Made a few mistakes with the renovations I wouldn't make now. Would love to buy an old farm house and bring it back to life for someone else. Love building projects. Watch "Escape to the Chareau" Any chance of a programme or series of revitalising Irish farmhouses. Where participants would help each other with information etc. Myra

    Hi
    Very good info on older properties...
    I am waiting for an old style farmhouse to come on the market to restore as a project... It has no roof for a number of years... Channel very good... Love your TV Programme also.

    You are so wise. I bought a small very old house here in the mountains in central Italy and I have no central heating, just a wood stove...right now I'm writing from sitting/living/hall camped in front of the stove, as my bedroom is freezing...😁..I live on almost no money, it's hard to get a job here...by the way, I'm British , left London ten years ago to live a simple, green, sustainable life, grow my food, keep chickens, etc...though I wish I can move to Ireland or Scotland but have no money and my house won't sell..people don't want to live far from cities..love and hugs

      hi sue, thanks so much for watching. maybe with the uptake in remote working our rural parts of the world will see more enthusiastic full time residents coming to stay. wouldnt that be lovely!

    03:07 in the UK we call it a Calor gas heater.

      Ah yes we called them that too! I haven’t a clue where the “superser” term came from 😂

      These Calor gas heaters are very good at pumping out heat, but they are very good at putting condensation into the room. The management agent warned us that the rate is 1litre of water per hour at full power. They do need to have decent ventilation, my flat is in a Victorian property which suffers from condensation related mould issues, so we got rid of ours quick,. Victorian properties are often designed for being ventilated by chimneys, and a modern equivilent is needed if you have modern heating.

      @@simonholley4110 That's a good point and when we used one in our old farmhouse as a means of instant heating we noticed a lot of condensation and eventually got rid of the heater and reverted back to open fires.

      Hi there! For starters decide whether you want to save to buy or borrow to buy. Because this will need to be sorted early on. Once you’ve that figured out it’s a matter of choosing an area that has affordable houses.

    Hi. What about a good used multi fuel stove that would have been checked out by a professional person?

    • @CheapIrishHouses
      @CheapIrishHouses  3 роки тому

      Do you mean as a heat source if there were no chimneys?

    • @duncands9172
      @duncands9172 3 роки тому

      @@CheapIrishHouses I mean heat scorce if there were chimneys.
      Hope you didn't mind me asking.

      I got a multi fuel stove put into my house recently. I had a chimney, hearth stone etc all ready and thought I was the bees knees getting this BEAUTIFUL second hand stove (delivered!!) for €200. Done deal is an amazing thing. However, The cost of lining the chimney, the flue and all the other installation bits nearly floored me though...Approx €1000 I think. And there were two skilled men working all day to do the job so taking away the cost of the equipment I don’t see that it could have been done for less.
      I have a wood pellet stove which was more expensive for the machine (also second hand 😁) but installation was really simple and the builder had it done in no time.
      If I had to pick between them, for what turned out to be similar enough costs, wood pellet stove all the way!

      @CheapIrishHouses  3 роки тому

      @@duncands9172 sure! i think thats a super idea. theyre more efficient than an open fireplace because the heat doesnt simply go up the chimney, so in that respect they are a great idea. i decided to put a multifuel stove in one of my fireplaces (the large inglenook in the sitting room) and keep the open fire in the other one (in my kitchen). We installed the stove ourselves and it wasnt too complicated at all. hope this helps xx
