Long time Japan resident here, FGN guitars are fantastic value for the money and with the weak Yen now is the time to come visit and pick up a new guitar while you're here!
Can confirm. Have bought 3 FGN guitars within a month. Plot twist: I can barely play guitar
Really cool that you guys are stocking FGN now. They're great guitars at a ridiculously cheap price compared to the same build quality from other companies. Hope they're popular!
The Iliad / The Odyssey by Homer!🤦🏻♂️
Already looking sooo much forward to that FGN Neo Classics video... 🤤
FGN seems very popular here in germany, almost every local shop stocks them. Never owned one but played them at stores. Never had a bad one in my hands
what companies did you have bad ones in your hands?
@@toledo2983 epiphone has been the worst one by far. Did have a couple of bad squires (rare though), had unluck with a couple of ESPs, and believe it or not (since they are know for their extremly high quality) i did have a couple of not so great yamahas aswell. Never had a bad ibanez, never had a bad fender, never (and prob never will) had a bad PRS
@@Driftuner have you played an epiphone in the last couple years ? I was always down on epiphone but the last two I’ve tried have been pretty awesome. I played about a 2021 lp standard and then just last fall a LP custom silver burst and it might have been the nicest 800 dollar guitar I’ve ever held.
I’m an Ibanez guy and agree that I’ve never played a bad Fujigen built guitar and in fact prefer the Japanese fenders, but I have to admit epiphone is building some nice guitars wherever they are made now.
@@brandonjackson5865 to be fair to epiphone: no, i havent played any recent models. And yes you are not the first person that hear saying that they've gotten much better lately. Guess i need to give them another shot sometime
The ash ones can be absolute boat anchors
Great to see more store stocking FGN. I own an Iliad 7 string and it's been my go-to for a while now.
I was hoping they were gonna point those out but they didn't.
They're gonna fully crap their pants when they get the Expert series in their hands.
Great guitars glad to see you stocking them!
Very nice. Looking forward to see videos on more of these. The basses are sweet as well!
Japan makes outstanding guitars!
love this series - Japan is always coming through with he quality.
I have an FGN Odyssey and love, love, love playing it. It’s so comfortable to play and the tuning is solid every time I pick it up.
Same here. I have a 2017 antique white odyssey standard with seymour duncan pickups. I absolutely love it. Would never sell it.
Pete's jamming is so beautiful, I always want to write my own after I hear him play.
I got a Fgn Iliad and play with this wonderful guitar on gigs every week. My main guitar with a G&L stratocaster (bargain too). I sold my previous fender US telecaster, great too, but definitely felt in love with the Iliad, which has a good sustain and is not as heavy as my US. Important... Stay in tune even after 3 hours of gig.

FGN guitars are really good value for its price. Really cool you guys are carrying them ! Proud user of a FGN JOS2TDM in Shell Pink here !

This is a golden age. . Buy everything from these guys and it will even go up in value
Ive had 3 FGN guitars now. One of them being the best playing guitars ive ever owned
Just ordered that Burgundy Mist one from you guys. That’d be my 2nd FGN. Great guitars.
Thanks for making this vid!
Had a FGN bass guitar. Amazing instrument.
I still have my completely unmodified Fender MIJ fuji gen factory Strat, purchased it in 1989, born on date per serial number was 88. It never goes out of tune and I have played this thing hard, its amaziing. these new models are also amazing I will be purchasing one in the near future.
Something new and fresh with a sprinkle of vintage.. at £549 for a Japanese made guitar these are one of the best buys out there
Some lovely guitars there 👍🏻
I’ve been looking at FGN for a long time.
I've never heard of FGN but I definitely want one now. The Japanese really know what they're doing when it comes to guitars.
You must of heard of Tokai, they came out of the Fugi-Jen factory

And cars, baseball, food, etc., etc.
Great demo!
My NCLS10 it's incredible
The purple S-style with humbuckers sounded great 👍
Love my FGN MSA-HP-C (Masterfield Semi Acoustic - Humbucking Pickups - Custom). You guys should definitely do another video on the rest of the FGN range when you have them in stock, especially the Masterfield series. The MSA models look like a 335 but are 15 inches wide instead of 16, so they sit right between the larger ES-335 and the smaller ES-339. Super comfortable to play, and they sound fantastic.
Do they still sell the P90 version? Been wanting for awhile.🇯🇵
There's just so many there that I'd love to own!
I miss bridge covered. My old strat has it. These sound excellent. You always have terrific videos. If I could play like Pete, I could get anything
Very nice range!!
Damn Pete. On the ranks of top 100 guitarists I think you may have cracked the 80s. Goat status approaching
Well done capt sweart mouth ! I have a Neo Classic . It's a gibson killer at half the price of an LP standard and beautifully made. I had no intention of buying one but fell in love when I played it...
Been wanting one for a long time, I have a fujigen made fender tele and it’s the best one I’ve ever played and came from the factory perfectly set up and spot on intonation even with 3 barrel saddles (the fender JV series is made at fujigen factory)
The Telecaster is such a durable design, even when made and interpreted by other builders and in other countries. Sounds lovely in Pete's hands...
I have a Neo Classic LS30 and absolutely love it. Comfortable neck, balanced body, beautiful outlook. And it has the Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta humbucker set :-)
My 1992 Ibanez was made in the FGN factory. One of my favorites!
my local store is a distributor for FGN and I like their pickups a lot.
they actually put their own in house pickups in their top of the range models. the way to approach this is to think of them really as boutique pickup. the name brands we have today all kinda started out as small boutique builders anyway.
Fujigen products are priced super well. I have purchased cross-continent an Open Pore Illiad 644 that leaves me stunned. I will have to acquire an Expert Odyssey, as their modernized Strat design look excellent.
I have an Iliad Boundary, it is so, so well made
I have an unbranded fujigen gakki sg 1972 one of my favorite guitars
Fun fact, the FujiGen factory also makes the Ibanez Prestige lineup (most of the production lineup) - so if you've ever held a MiJ Prestige, you'll know the quality is as good as it gets.
Recently got a FGN iliad. Absolutely blown away with the level of quality for the price! Even compared to expensive guitars they are awesome
I read so many good things about Fujigen and FGN and with their history (Fender, Orville, Epiphone Elitist, Ibanez Prestige) I had to try one, I ordered a Iliad J-Standard and it's flawless
What is the neck profile like?
@@Jake24378 it's somewhere halfway between vintage and modern. I find it really comfortable, much more so than most Made in Mexico fender for example. It's not that thin but it's not a baseball batt either. Probably a bit similar to ibanez Az for example.
Those are amazing.
I got my iliad boundary brand new just before lockdown for £350, jist to see what they are like. Crazy what inflation/new retailer does to prices. As it goes though, these are SO much better than anything else for under £1000. From a makers point of view, they’re amazingly put together (if mine is a good example).
The contemporary Iliad is Fujigen's take on Jim Root's signature Tele, and I love it.
Those are really clean looking guitars.
19:06 FWAR!!! This looks & sounds awesome!
awesome guitars, I have a masterfield (think 330 with centre block) in black with the P90's and it is phenomenal. Holds its own very well against my custom shop 335. great value and quality
Wow, nice guitars!
Buying one ASAP
Popped in to Andertons to pick up the Mythic today after seeing this. Really pleased with it!
🤣 21:02 Love an angry outburst from Lee! These guitars all looks great! 🤩
Pete is a really tasteful player with a great touch. He really does demo these guitars well.
They are excellent guitars. I've had an Iliad Standard for a couple of years and it's my go to for recording as it never goes out of tune, intonates beautifully and is perfectly silent even when recording with PC's around and electric lights on. They are quite polite guitars though so don't expect the snarling nastiness that a great vintage tele bridge pickup can give you.
What is the neck profile like?
@@Jake24378 It's a U neck, but not a big old chubber like a Fender U, it's a comfortable handful (I've got medium hands) but there's enough meat there that you don't the hand fatigue that slim necks can give you.
I'm visiting London 1st May. might have to visit guildford before I go home. Like the look of the Iliad.
I had a special edition japanese contemporary fender strat in the early 80's. To this day it's still the best build quality of any off the rack guitar i've ever bought. Tokai are great guitars too.
I have a late 80's Japanese contemporary Strat and it is absolutely brilliant. Only guitar which comes close is my Ibanez RG770DX reissue which happened to be made in the same place.
The Japanese fenders are incredible. I was so excited about the new Japanese Jacksons and then I saw the prices, if Ibanez and FGN can build a super Strat like that for 1000 then why is a Dinky with a FR 1000 over two grand ?
@@brandonjackson5865 It's the "Name Brand Tax." And FMIC's pricing strategy when it comes to their version of the Jackson brand.
Plus there's a higher profit margin on higher-end Indonesian-made Jacksons, both in terms of manufacturer cost and market volume.
You're probably better off trying to score an old MIJ Jackson Pro from the '90s, I've seen them out in the wild for around $600-$800.
I have an Iliad with a Jerry Donahue and a 59 in the neck.
I changed them to a Creamery double tap Tele bridge and a humbucker sized Wide Range.
My Iliad deserved boutique pickups !
Now, it’s perfect !
I believe FGN guitars will be crazy expensive when they reach the popularity of Fender, Gibson, ESP and so on. They sell high quality "Made in Japan" guitars in the same price range with Indonesian/Chinese built of the sub-brands. So it would be a great investment for the future. I'm seriously thinking to replace all my Korean built LTDs, Schecters, Mexican Fender with FGN guitars.
I had the Expert Flame, its a lot of guitar for the money. I am very tempted to buy another, and I'm very happy to see them at Andertons!
I got a heavily gigged one for ~750 USD a couple years ago - I'll still put it against any other single cut made (I could still sell it for 1200 no problem but I'm keeping it).
The fretwork is astounding and it plays like buttered butter even though it's rashed and oxidized af otherwise.
It's a rock machine. People joke when they say stuff like that but it's no joke and you can vouch.
A lot of guitar; that's 110% accurate. Not for the money, but that's a heck of a nice bonus on top of a unit that is already custom shop quality, fit and finish.
I have been letting go of instruments worth 3x this one because I just don't need them now.
I'm scared to buy another because what if I just got lucky with this one? This could be a unicorn.
@russellzauner it could be a unicorn, but in that case, mine was too! I did sell mine and made money on it. I am tempted to get one the less expensive ones now, to see if it stacks up to my AZ!
ua-cam.com/video/n9z9_he-DLY/v-deo.html
The intro guitar playing is awesome, very, very tasty 👌
Holy crap look at that green T style!
The neck pick up on that indigo Odyssey model sounded the business.
Guitars from Japan is my cup of tea...so much bang for the buck...
Some of my Japan guitars:
- Greco LP 1974
- Sigma Strat 1977
- JBX strat 1977
- Sigma acoustic Hummingbird 1975
- Aria 12-string acoustic 1082
- Marchis LP 1970
Great vintage feeling, dry wood, really good quality, well made electronics...to a price less of brand new Epiphones and Squires...
I tried an old, I’m sure laminate Aria 12 string from probably the 70s in a shop. I picked up several acoustic guitars that day everything from 1500 -2000 Martins and Taylors on down to Sea Gull, Gretsch and Recording Kings and that old Aria was the best playing and sounding guitar in the shop. I was impressed with how straight the neck was and it had pretty low action to. They were asking 300 for it, it was a lower end model and they were asking about 100 more than what they had been selling for. Maybe it was an extremely good example, but you could tell it had been played. Anyway I told the guy working in the shop that old Aria is the best guitar you got in the shop for the money. He kinda nodded and rolled his eyes at me. They are a shop that specializes in acoustic guitars and they have a room full of new Martins and Taylors and then a room with the more affordable beginner and intermediate stuff. They are kinda guitar snobs I guess. I’ve always loved the old 70s MIJ stuff before it was trendy to those old Yamahas are giant slayers. I’ve always wanted a 12 string but I’ve never pulled the trigger on one. I wish I’d made an offer on that old Aria though it was seriously impressive.
Now everyone is coming around to the old Japanese guitars and they are probably still better than anything you can buy new for 600 or so but the days of scooping them up for a couple hundred bucks is over I’m afraid.
Yes, i have a FGN guitar. I highly recommend this guitars for the price and quality.
I have a 1991 Fender Heartfield which was made in Japan. Great quality.
Love when Mr Pete. Plays that Jhon Mayer riff.
My only problem with this range of guitars is that their own brand pickups are so good that moving up to Seymour Duncans doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. Otherwise I would like to see some more colour options.
Why is that a problem?
It’s easy, just take off the strings and remove the neck. And screw the pick guard. Give it a light sand and paint it. Any colour you like, then put it all back together, done.
Always wanted to try a FGN guitar. I own 3 Japanese guitars...a '70's Ibanez Les Paul copy, a 1996 Orville LP Special, and a 2002 Fender Paisley Telecaster. All 3 are absolutely fantastic guitars!
youre 96 orville ,was made by fujigen
Japanese pride in work!
@@elbib2446 were the Japanese Epiphones made in Fujigen as well ?
@@brandonjackson5865 yes they were
@@elbib2446 thanks I thought they were, I’d love to run up on a Japanese open book epiphone lp custom , or even one of the nicer Orvilles. Any Japanese LP really and part of the reason is because Gibson doesn’t want me to have that option in the US but that just makes it sweeter how good some of them are.
Those guitars sound real good
I have an FGN SG, and it is great! So is its gig bag.
That blue t-style. Yes. Very much.
Love it..I want one
You guys are the fukn best! Shout out to the crew.
I've owned 3 of the Neo Classic LP styles. Two of the NLC20's and one NLS10 goldtop. All three were exceptionally good. I sold them for various reasons but really regret getting rid of the goldtop. All 3 had the rounded horn too prior to changing to the pointy one.
Pete can make anything sound good
I'd love to give one of the FGN guitars a go. I have a Fender Japan '89 Contemporary Strat and a 2008 Ibanez RG770DX reissue both made in that factory. Honestly, I can pick a fault on either of those instruments. To me, they are both perfect. The set up out the factory on the Ibanez was the best I've ever felt. That Ibanez was the best guitar I'd played by far until I picked up the 89 Strat. That is a work of art. There's something magic that goes on behind closed doors at Fujigen, I can't explain it otherwise.
Wow these seem pretty FGN good!
I hope you're able to get the basses in stock soon.
The Iliad is also the tale of the siege of Troy. Given the pricey range is called the Odyssey, which is the follow on to the Iliad, makes sense that they are named after the Greek poems.
I should have studied harder at school :) - why do say it makes sense that the guitars are named after Greek Poems??
@@andertons they consider their guitars are the stuff of myth and legend perhaps?
@@liamh9814 They must pay homage to the birth of the guitar as an epic. The first chapter is the tele (Iliad) and the second chapter is the strat (Odyssey).
@@isengard13 :)! We need to find Argos and Telemachus too.
Odysseys are FGN's version of the Strat; Iliads are Teles. Their price ranges are Boundary, J-Standard and Expert. If Odysseys are more expensive, it's because they're more complex (more pickups etc).
How is the neck profile? I love that metallic green one but can't try it out over in the states. I hate chunky necks, would prefer it to be on the slimmer side.
Fingers crossed for some FGN basses too
They're on the Anderton's website.
Fun fact. The “G" in Fujigen sounds like the G in ‘Gust’ not ‘Generator.’
they look awesome, does someone know how they compare to sire(esp the t7 one)? I'm thinking of getting one and not sure if I should get the BOUNDARY ILIAD instead or even putting extra money to get the j series tele. any one that have tried both? only got to play the t7 and it was really good
I have a FGN LS10 (Gibson Les Paul Copy) and love that thing.
These are seriously underrated. Excellent guitars, i think they sound way better than Ibanez. The FGN pickups are surprisingly clear a chimy. Best buy for the buck
21:00 has me DYING of laughter. I want the uncensored version! 😂🤣
Years ago, I had a Fender Heartfield Talon, pretty much an Ibanez RG style with a stupid thin neck that was so comfortable. It was made in 1991 at the Fujigen Factory, at the time I had no clue what it was. Bought it for $60 at a flea market, wish I hadn't sold it.
FGN has subcontracted to make instruments for various Japanese manufacturers, so we are sure of our technical capabilities!
Another thing you might have missed on the EOS model is the rolled over frets, they dont come on the lower priced ones
Based on the fact that I have two of the mid-1980s Fuji gen Squier strats I would say these are likely great guitars and they certainly look and sound like it from the video.
ooooh that candy red though 😍😍
Iliad is from Lord of the rings 😂. That’s close to spinal tap ‘dobly’ levels of intelligence. Well done.
I thought everyone knew it was written by Homer Simpson
@@rexrathtar3893 Good one!!
What made me laugh was that he knocked Pete for saying Ilihad Stadium. Out of the two Lee was slightly more wrong.
Iliad and Odyssey are poems by the Greek poet Homer
@@davidwagner3170 this was a joke
My blue flower Fender Telecaster was made in the Fuji factory (“Crafted in Japan”/CiJ) and is built as solidly as you could ever want. It also has a great tone, even just strummed acoustically, and a neck that just asks you to (try to) play faster. If these are made and play half as well, I could well be tempted…hmmm, new S-Type maybe 🤔 😂😊
I have the Blue Flower Power, and the Pink Paisley Tele's made in Japan. Top quality guitars!
Something for everyone here....some good guitars. Fujigen is a well-regarded guitar manufacturer with a long history of constructing quality MIJ guitars for the likes of Fender and Epiphone over the years.
It's a hard "G" in "fuji-gen" :D
Never had one in my hand but I've always thought of then as Japan's Cort: a factory that makes a ton of brands, so they can make quality stuff for less money when they put their own brand on the headstock. Lovely stuff
Nobody has ever set themselves on fire at Fujigen. True story that Cort can't claim.
They look like awesome deals. Not sure what I would pick
I'll be ordering one soon! I had a MIJ Fender "Japanese" Jazz bass from the 80's. It was a Ruby micro Flake... I sold it and have regretted it for years. Nothing has played Close. But I'm not a bassist and bought it because of how great it was. Every Band I was in the Bassist always used it because they couldn't believe how great it was... Also going to order a Vox Clubman 60 when those release. I live in the states but so many companies here are getting destroyed by corporations... I'll gladly order from across the pond to keep an indie shop going.
15:09 Pete fell in love pahaha...
I love the mythic ! Is it UK only ?
Is sound to me as the T type guitar has a lot of clarity. 👍
Some interesting looking guitars! I think my favourite were the Tele style models, they had a really nice snappy sound to them. Most of the stuff I play isn't usually associated with a Tele style guitar but if it sounds right then it sounds right!
I think the first Japanese built guitar I may end up getting at some point soon will be made by FujiGen. I have my eye on an Ibanez Prestige 7 string, H S S configuration with Seymour Duncans and a Gotoh trem. Can't recall the exact model number as Ibanez don't exactly make them memorable! As far as I'm aware the Prestiges are made by FujiGen. ~£1500 is a lot of money for a guitar but I think I'll get a lot out of that mix of specs in combination with the Japanese quality.
I have also seen a second hand ESP Snapper Burner in my local area for about £1700 which is roughly half the new price. That is in the top tier of Japanese models though, and whilst it looks absolutely beautiful and very tempting I don't really think I'm worthy of such an instrument yet, having only been playing a couple of years. This Snapper I've seen is a slightly older spec with ESP's own pickups (H S S), they clearly prefer not to use their own pickups in the Original Series anymore as the Snapper Burner was the last Snapper model on their website showing ESP pickups but its recently been updated to Seymour Duncans like all the others. Would be interesting to know why they've made that choice, whether they think the Duncans sound better, or if it's more about brand recognition. You can still get ESP pickups on custom shop orders, these being the proper Japanese made ESP pickups not the cheap imported pickups they brand with their own name for the cheaper LTD models. So seeing ESP going all Seymour Duncan on their Original Series Snappers (Original Series being custom shop quality, just pre-configured models) it's interesting that FujiGen are using both a mix of Seymour Duncans and their own pickups in the models showcased here. Even the highest end of these FGN models shown by Anderton's has their own pickups so they must be pretty decent.
ESP don't seem to do any classic style Strat or Tele type models in their mid-range priced Japanese line, the E-II - they have more contemporary specs like double humbuckers and Floyd Roses, not more vintage style trems. So it's cool that we have these options from FGN and Ibanez Prestige to get those kinds of styles without having to step up to the really high prices of full-fat ESPs, as desirable as they are.
The tone on the mythic series sounds insanely good!
but the optics is lacking a lot.
You guys are great
