Dear vloggers -- Jack Conte shows you how to vlog better: CEO of Patreon

- Опубліковано 26 чер 2024
- Jack Conte's video really has a lot more going on in terms of things we can learn from such as his use of sound as well. Casey Neistat, of course, does the same on a regular basis. As always, I'm enjoying making these storytelling breakdowns to figure out how to vlog better.
SECRET CUTS
So if you've come to here to see just what I ended up cutting from the video, I appreciate you so much. You're awesome! Anyway, cut to the chase. 1)Guitar: You'll find me running around with the guitar at about the 1 minute mark. And I was going to connect Jack Conte as a musician, with how varying shots is similar to how melodies are a sequence of variation of tones. I really digged the analogy, but ultimately decided it bogged down the video so I cut it. 2) The other one is Alfred Hitchcock on my screen at about 2:30. I had a whole explanation about what a Mcguffin is. It's a film term that is related to the whole having an item/thing drive a narrative. But again, the video worked better without it, so again it was cut. Haha, anyway, thanks again for watching the video!

Vlog with King
I usually don’t leave any comments on videos but man your channel is really helping a new UA-camr like me, absolutely love the content you’re putting out
Dude, your perspective on this is SMART. You crushed this. This video needs to blow up. You need spam this everywhere. If you where going to self promote a video more than normal, this is the one.
Oh yeah? It does seem like this one is getting a lot of positive feedback. I will do that sir!
Well here's a link to a tweet at him. Help like and share it, maybe it'll get to him. 😆 twitter.com/kinginmotion/status/999899874765127681
Vlog with King I don't use my Twitter much but, I sent him you link as well.
Haha thanks dude! Should have done this when I released the video. Haha oh well.
Love this breakdown. I get alot of my inspiration from both of them and now having you to help us along our journey always helps
Thank you! We’re all on this journey together! 100%!
Honestly, I find that the b-roll cut scenes in Jack Conte's stuff are often far too long. I find that about halfway through them, I got really bored and I started wishing he would just tell me what's going on instead of flashing everything in front of me so quickly. I agree that there is a balance for sure but I remember specifically thinking that it was a bit too far in the Jack Conte videos that I saw. This video, however, has a great balance between talking and showing!
Haha, I got that same feeling in some of the subsequent videos that I saw of his. It can certainly be taken too far. Haha, audiences can only be taken on an adventure with an unknown destination so many times before they get sick of the trick I suppose. 😅
Yeah absolutely! Like I said, I think its all about finding balance. Too many talking head shots and people get bored visually... too much b-roll, they don't feel like they are getting to know you or understand what's happening. I've been trying to cut out some of my "cinematic sequences" lately to try to find my balance. I found that I was adding them just to have a cinematic sequence even when it wasn't called for. So now the goal is to only add that stuff when it actually serves a purpose. And when I'm shooting it, trying not to be random about it. In my most recent video I did a little trick where it looks like its going to be the start of one, but then it abruptly stops like 10 seconds later and catches your attention again. Just little things like that to keep it interesting. Essentially, we all have 15-second attention spans, and you need to catch someone with something (a new topic, a new angle, a new sound, a new scene) every 15 seconds in your video. This is the end of my novel. I should probably just make a video about this.
Haha, thanks for the novel! And I agree with you 100% and I'd even go as far as to say it's probably less than 15 seconds these days, 5 - 10?. lol I don't know, it just keeps getting shorter and shorter it seems. But then again, for those channels that can pull it off in certain niches, to mostly just sit and talk, it sure is heck way more sustainable. Which of course, is a big factor in this journey as well.
Story Greenlight - for sure! I guess it is all subjective in the end anyway. I didn’t really dig it but I’ll admit I still stuck around!
Hahah, ADD is true. And it's only getting worse. 😅Very good points. I love that you brought it back to him being genuine to who he was and the style lines up with who he is.
So many insights. Learning a lot right here, thanks!
Love how you pull videos apart and explain what they are doing. Nice job.
Thansk Scott! I'm back from 40 daily vlogs on Instagram. Will be more coming soon!
Well done King, great break down. You can learn a lot by watching the pros....like you. I'll have to watch it again to find the weird things but again great video.
Thanks a lot eh Joe! I guess it’s always more obvious to the person who’s editing and have been watching it 100 times over than others. 😅 this edit took a lot of restructuring to get around the parts that wasn’t working. Glad I did it though, it always feels good to conquers some obstacles. 💪
Great video! Showing is always so much more powerful than telling, and that's something I try to incorporate into my own vlogs whenever I can!
Yeah me too definitely. Not going to let this failure stop me! ahha
Great breakdown on why he was so effective in that video. He demonstrates a great feature of vlogging that talking heads aren’t necessary to explain what’s happening. It definitely takes more time and organizing to create a Vlog like this but we should all strive to not be lazy and make the best work we can
Haha Thanks man. Yes, you’re right, laziness is always the biggest enemy isn’t it. It definitely takes a bit more planning to create something like this. But even if we just thinking about what we might show in someways could make the planning of what to shoot a little more straight forward? Although I did totally fail to include my show and tell objects in this video. 😅
Haha, I dont think anyone noticed until you mentioned that at the end. However, too many vloggers that oversaturate UA-cam are just walking and shooting everything and putting into a timeline with no thought of the structure, or B-roll to explain what they are talking about. But, thats the luxury of choosing what we want to watch or subscribe to right!?
Haha, you're right about that. That though is kinda the reason I'm doing this, I think the world can benefit with better storytellers. 😊 I just feel there'd be more uplifting and positive stories being heard.
Really dig the breakdown.. it’s always interesting when you have someone breakdown another creator’s video.. you did a fantastic job. I need more show & tell in my videos for sure
Ya, videos on UA-cam really has become an art form. The good thing about being a new creator now, is there’s just so much to learn from. 😄
His video was amazing! Thanks for breaking it down for us. I'll definitely try to do this in my next videos.
Yes, do try it! Haha, I'm sure it'll be fun.
I really love what you do on this channel! You're helping me a lot!
Thanks Burak! Glad you found it helpful!
Love your keen observations. Brilliant work!
Thanks Jane!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Really love your teaching method!!
Loved the breakdown and analysis of the video. The is genuinely great content for vloggers to become better at their craft. Plus I loved what you practiced what you preached at the end.
Thanks Rhonda & Francis Lee! Glad you found it helpful! Haha, let's all get better at vlogging through trying and failing... 😂
I had not seen Jack Conte’s video, but stopped and watched it from your link and then came back to see yours. Loved the analysis and loved your sweet bit at the end. I can see you getting Casey Neistat’s attention through your creative ways, too. So glad this video is blowing up! Have fun in Bali!
Thanks so much! Haha, it would be cool to get his attention, considering he’s a YT hero of mine, haha, but that’s probably pretty obvious. 😝 I’m definitely having fun in Bali, hence no official video this week, although I’ve playing around with Instagram though!
Your break down is on point! great research and thanks for telling this story.
Thanks man. These are always a lot of fun to do. 😀
Jack is really incredible. I’m curious how long it takes him to make his videos.
Thanks for this breakdown, it REALLY emphasizes the importance of show vs. tell.
Thanks man! Yeah, me too. It does feel like it needs quite a bit of planning and post-production. I can't imagine he has THAT much time though since he's also running Patreon full-time.
Vlog with King he’s definitely an interesting guy and has quickly become on of my favorites. Love YOUR channel too, by the way!
Thank you so much for the support! Will keep getting better!
First video I've seen from you. Great work. I totally subscribed.
Thanks Tony! Hope you found my other videos helpful too. I'll be looking to create more soon.
Such a great video. I love your insight to the "show not tell" philosophy!
Thanks Alejandro! It actually kinda makes planning for what to shoot a little easier in some ways! Although I totally failed at including my own show and tell items in this vid. Haha maximum effort! And if it fails, just cut it... 😅
loved this vid and your pace dude, so good (y)
Thanks Levi Caleb Allan! Appreciate the love!
Love it bro definitely gonna use some more show and tell in my vlogs :)
Another on point breakdown! The best advice someone gave me as a filmmaker was that showing them is usually more powerful than telling them!! Love these videos man!
Yeah it is very good advice, I was amazed at how much his video was doing this when I stopped and looked through it. Too bad I failed to insert my own this time around. But I won’t stop trying!
Let's not forget the kickass sound design that Jack's video had. All sound effects go a long way to adding extra punch to the edits and camera movements.
Nice breakdown, though!
You're absolutely right about that. I should've mentioned it, but then the video may get too long. Haha. Next time for sure!
nice break down of the video< i liked this a lot!
Great video man! Showing vs. telling is something I always struggle with and having been working pretty hard on getting better at. I think the "telling" clips can be useful for setting the scene and getting the story rolling but its easy to get carried away by rambling too much. Finding that balance just takes a lot of practice.
Yeah, it was definitely more difficult than I thought. Hence the failure to add in my own show and tell things in this video. I guess that was a big lesson, it has to work within the context of your story, or else it just doesn’t work as well. I think you’re right though, the ‘telling’ clips are definitely key in telling the story properly. I guess the video in someways undermines it a little, bit I guess the point is to speak to your audience in a variety of ways, to keep things fun and engaging. I think if we can master the use of showing, it’ll probably make some scenes easier to plan for. At least that’s my hope. Ahah, will keep trying until I get better at it too!
Great video bro, love the style and breakdown of the video
Thanks man!
Hey, this was on point. I've been trying to find my way on my UA-cam channel and now this makes so much sense. Awesome explanation! 👍
Thanks man! We’re all finding our ways! I’m glad you found this helpful, let’s keep moving forward together!
In addition to liking what you do and having me subscribe, I love the music you use. Where do you get it from? Again, great work.
DUDE! This was such a good breakdown. One of my favorite things to do is analyze creative things and break them down, so I immediately was onboard, but man, you are not only great at that, but you've really nailed down a fantastic way to present what you've discovered in your analysis. Thanks for making this! Stoked to connect with you!
Thanks Michael again. Yeah, I've quite enjoyed making these, and I've certainly noticed my tendencies are forming some kind of style. I've really enjoyed making cause I learn so much from making these. I'm just glad it appears others are enjoyig these too. :)
You're welcome King! Yeah, man. Each execution with those tendencies teaches you so much. Both in skills and techniques, but also about yourself and others. Love it man. :)
Something to keep in mind!
Great breakdown, really interesting analysis of his story telling!
Thanks guys!
Solid video. I loved Conte's video, thanks for breaking it down like this. A lot of good stuff for to consider for my next video.
Yeah, I was so blown away by it the first time. It just seems like there's no question he's gonna get that meeting with Casey. haha
Vlog with King he already did!!! Casey made a video about it
Haha yes I saw it too, sorry for my hidden past tense in my last sentence 😝
King, you are the King of how to break down Content ...I enjoyed it a lot
Keep posting videos .. and Good luck
Hahah! Thank you! I don’t mind that! Really enjoying making these! Do you have any specific vloggers you’d like to see?
Vlog with King ..yes
peter mckinnon
Yes, I should definitely do a bit more about him. My last one about his collab with Casey didn't quite do him justice!
Dude, great example of why it's more important to show instead of tell. Always giving such great insights!! and Bali looks so awesome.....I definitely feel challenged to do more showing...your secret cuts sound like they could be a whole other video! also, you gotta do a video of you learning to spear and surf!
Thanks man. The thing is, when I watched his video for the first time, I just thought it was mostly him talking to the camera, and for some reason it was just really entertaining. But after looking more closely, it became apparent that he wasn’t. Brilliant! Not that easy to do though I found out!
Yeah I know what you mean, it reminds me of what gary vee said about how great communicators have a great sense of self awareness.....I think it all comes down to gettting more and more comfortable in your skin....and feeling comfortable with sharing your story/heart....before you are engaging you have to become comfortable I think.......but dude you're super engaging.....I definitely think you're on your way bro :)
Just gotta keep trying and developing! I'll get better the more I fail! 💪
Really love your content man!
Thanks Dominik!!
This is the best one yet :) The breakdown of talking head shots was insightful
Thanks Claire! I'm glad I made the last minute changes that cost me another day to fix then! Haha, it totally wasn't working until I cut out my own show and tell stuff. Haha, there is definitely bonus points for being straight to the point. 😁
Vlog with King totally! I'm curious how patreon dude got so good at it. To get something so polished takes a lot of practice.
He's been making videos for quite a while, but this was the first time I found out who he was. I could not have imagined Patreon's CEO is like this. lol
What a really funny video you share with us. Thanks to you please continue. I am with you.
Haha, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job!! I love how you broke it down for people 😁😁👍
Thanks Matt!
Love what you're doing bro, keep it up
Thanks Grant!
Jack conte video is so Awesome😆 thanks 4 this break down😎
you always help me to think a little further outside the box 👊
Thank you! My wife sometimes concludes that I think outside the box too much, but these videos definitely help me clarify my thoughts. 😆
This Natural Journey so true. The King is on the rise. See you everywhere lol
Haha oh yeah? Thank you to the YT gods then 😂
It only so I might bump into you Joe eh ✌
Great video. Really good break down of the Video and explaining about showing more rather just telling.
Thanks Barnabas! Really appreciate it! Do you have a favorite vlogger?
Vlog with King Casey Neistat, Peter McKinnon, ehJoe
EhJoe! Love that guy, and of course the other 2. 😁
You can also breakdown this vlog analyzing another vlog from a vlogger to another vlogger to get vlogging tips. Thus reaching complete vlog-ception. Learned alot thanks :)
😂My mind is blown.
I was mostly really impressed with all the crazy transitions he used in that video. So much planning must've gone into those.
That is true, and most definitely one of the reason why his videos are so fun!
Awesome analysis! Love it.
Thank you so much. That means more than you know!
You're welcome! I'm going to subscribe right away. Looking forward to seeing more videos.
The Tavel montage was boss.
I appreciate u and ur efforts
And I appreciate the love man.
Jack Conte is one of my favourite vloggers at the moment. You forgot some things I like about Jack is his use of obscure audio effects and personifying things like his drone.
Great vlog, King. If you're ever in Melbourne, Australia, holla.!
Haha, you’re absolutely right about the audio, and personifying of things. Figured the video would be too long, but thanks for pointing it out dude. My wife was actually living in melbourne for a long time, I even stayed here for 4 months couple years back. Love the city!
Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to your Bali vlogs! I've never been.
Yeah, definitely looking forward to it myself! 😁
I really like this idea, it's interesting because I am always worried that there aren't enough talking head shots in some of my videos maybe I'm wrong?
Absolutely true! Love how you explained it! Honestly, "show not tell" is THE trick on UA-cam I think
(Spotted you In Gary's comment section)
Thanks Quinten! Yeah, definitely a keeper for the vlogger toolbox! Although it was harder than I assumed, but will keep trying till I get it!
Very good video man and very informative 👌🏼🔥
Thanks Juan! I'm glad you found it useful!
Dang King! That was awesome!
Thanks Slim Gringo!
Wonderful video!!
Thanks Jesse Lane!
I love show and tell, I did when I was in kindergarten and I still love it now. I sometimes wonder if I don't have ENOUGH talking heads. Thanks for letting me know Im doing SOMETHING right ;)
Hahah, yes I guess it's true the way around as well. Can't have too little either. I perhaps undermined the talking head a little, but it's probably even more fundamentally important. 😉 good balance is most important.
Yo man, always bringing it with the great info! Keep it up! Your breakdowns are super on point! Also not sure if I’m seeing it correctly but check your camera settings, feels like I’m watching 60fps. Wether it’s for 4K, that’s cool too, but try filming in 24 fps and if your camera offers that in 4K as well awesome! If not no worries. It just looks more natural in 24fps that’s all! From one creative to another! Cheers man!
You're right, that hasn't been something I've paid much attention to. It's just always on 60fps, in case I wanted to slow it down. But I almost never do slomo, so the point is moot. Haha. Thanks for the feedback though! Every detail matters, I'll definitely remember to go 24 as my default in my next video. Appreciate for taking the time dude!
Vlog with King Of course man! I really enjoy your material! So bcuz my eyes see these things I can never go back lol which of course I wanna help others grow as much as they can and are willing too as well! Cool beans brother looking forward to the next breakdown! And that more “natural motion” Haha! If you don’t watch Matti Haapoja yet, definitely check him out! I’ve learned so much from Matti! Peter and Casey are cool, but Matti just seems like he’s so much more knowledgeable about cameras and settings and methodical when he shoots his videos! He’s super planned out! Maybe breakdown one of his videos? A good one of course haha!
I haven't watched too much of Matti, but yes, it does seem like he's a very knowledgeable, as well as Chris Hau?
Makes a lot sense to me King,,,,"The REVELATION" gets me thinking how I can allow start inputting some of this concept into my gardening videos. Makes it so much more inviting!
Thanks King
All the best from Australia
Marty
ps: Have fun in Bali,,catch a wave for me!
Yeah, it definitely got me thinking more as well. I like that it seemingly allows you to share a personal story as well as say something very specific. Even though I kinda failed in including my own show and tell items in this video, I think it should sometimes help planning out what to shoot easier. Will keep trying! 💪 and yes! Will try to catch a 🌊! Hopefully more! 😅
Cool,,quick question please? Can you tell me King how we are allowed to use snippets of other creators videos? I really want to do that more in the future.
Thanks matey
Marty
No problem! It is based on idea of "Fairuse". Google's definition is the "doctrine that brief excerpts of copyright material may, under certain circumstances, be quoted verbatim for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching, and research, without the need for permission from or payment to the copyright holder."
Thanks King, much appreciated!
No problem Marty!
U got me as a subscriber for the long haul ‼️‼️‼️
Thanks Daniel!
Excellent video, greetings from México 🇲🇽
Thank you Ramiro! Hi back from Indonesia!
Such a great video
I'm new to the channel, I'm digging it.
Thanks DIYCamerGuy! Glad you dig it!
Brilliant analysis. Right on the money!
Thanks Rasmus! If only it was real money! Haha jk, I’m glad this one turned out. It almost didn’t work cause I was trying to force in my own show and tell stuff. Luckily I abandoned it and will try again next time 😂
Wow this is amazing you have a gift trying to get on your level
Hehe I’m sure you will, hopefully you’ll catch me when I’m in a higher level already!
Jack Conte is the bosssssss thanks for sharing ma i learnt alot from this video!!
He is the boss, he actually got Casey to recite a poem in Casey’s own video. 😂
Bro you are under rated. Keep up y he good work.
Appreciate that!
Killer break down!
Thanks Jeshua!
You nailed it!
Thanks RYN!
good!! like your style bro
Thanks Christianestilo!
Great video!
Thanks Dario!
Didn't even notice those cuts... I did notice you're background tho... some look very ghetto, some in basketball park... very unusual compared to usual backgrounds :)
lol, yup ghettoing up in the hood
Good brakedown mate
Thanks Flono Trail!! Appreciate it!
Even Rocky had a montage!
Do my vlogs have two of the talking head shots? Only if you get tired of looking at my beautiful face! 😂 great video!
lol, obviously this rule doesn't apply to beautiful faces 😂
lol David... You and King are my latest my channel that i love pretty much. awesome communications on the screen.
Mad props dude. MAD PROPS.
Haha, appreciate it dude!
You are becoming a professor of vlogs 👍🏼
Haha thanks man! Just got told by a friend I’m not working hard enough! Arghhh maximum effort!!
Wow bro👍👍👍👍
I like how you transitioned from Jack tapping on the box of tapes to you talking with perfectly timed tapping (a hammer) in the background.. Was this one of the weird things you were talking about?
Haha, I wish I can take credit for that, it is, fortunately, a happy accident. 😅 the weird thing I was talking about is actually me running up the stairs with a guitar around the minute mark, and a creepy Alfred Hitchcock on my computer screen around 2 min (something like that, I forget) 😆
I cut out big portion of the video that I shot to make it more concise so those were the remnants of it. Haha
Amazing review! God insight and lesson. Wondering why you have so little subscribers. You deserve more!
btw. The answer to "why head shots?", is: It is much easier to shoot and edit a headshot than montages. And it works almost as well. It is extremely hard to keep up and have consistency in vlogging (which is an essence) if you put too much effort. I would say the balance is "the king" ;) e.g. Take any 10 seconds of your headshot and 10 seconds of your trip to Indonesia. It took you XX hours to film and much more time to edit... and the result comment on your vid is - good review of Jack's video. It does give you extra quality but... story "is king" and it is beautiful and by all means it is amazing to enrich it with such cool parts (montages)! ;) Balance is everything ... Balance!
My effort as a producer is to create sustainable process and good "effort to result" balance for any content creator. This is something with which even Casey is struggling with. (Extremely shown with 368 vids!). GaryVee has a good formula to it - the teamgaryvee! But it is challenge to him also (with almost 1000 employees) to create more than one (not to mention 10 or 100) channels like GaryVee with the same audience attention. There is a code to it, and when somebody cracks this system, when this happens, vloggers will take over the advertising market. Who ever does this first will be "the king" of vloggers! And the rest will follow ;)
Guys like you, that look things from different perspective, analyze and breakdown good stuff (like videos from Jack, David or Casey...) help other people motivated and think of the production from a new point of view!!!
ps.
This started as a 2 words comment, but... ;)
ps2
Really loved Jack's video!
ps3
... and your breakdown!
Lol, thanks for the 2 word comment man. Really appreciate it. You nailed it on the head though about consistency and sustainability. That's huggge. For someone who is still struggling with consistency, I'm also trying to figure out this formula for myself. Although, I do think bigger youtubers have the luxury to coast a bit more than smaller ones. Which is why I shied away from daily vlogging. 1) I'm not good enough to pull it off in an engaging way, and 2) I'm always assuming the audience will click away the moment it is remotely less interesting. Haha tough battle...
p.s. Thanks again for the that awesome comment!
Vlog with King I think the time is right to do vlog with the topic: How Casey lost 1 million viewers (per video)?
I didn't notice the secret cuts! lol
Haha, Hitchcock was creepily looking on, and you didn’t even notice. 😂
Omg it really makes me think what else I don't notice
Haha, 👻
Enjoy your vacation time 🤙🏽
Thanks Robert!! Looking to catch at least 'a' wave
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Charlie!
Very good video
Thanks Javier!
Fabulousness
Thanks Valbulous! 😁
Great 👍🏽
Thanks man
First off, nice tan! But yeah , that guy really kills the game, rightfully the founder of patreon. He really does have a brilliant mind
Lol, thanks! I didn’t realize I had a tan. I’m so pale most of time, but I guess you’re right! Summer is here! And yes, was quite blown away the first time I saw his video to Casey. Absolutely killed it.
Hey awesome bro. When are you going to start your daily vlogs? Any plans ? :)
Noel Joe haha thanks for thinking of me!Sorry for the lack of videos, currently in the midst of a 40 daily vlog challenge on Instagram. Haha, add me instagram.com/vlogwithking/ I’m on day 19! But I’m gonna try to get a video out next week. So you actually like my vlogs? I thought the UA-cam community here prefers my tips or breakdown video more. That’s the whole reason I’m trying daily vlogging over on IG. So that I could experiment and not bother you guys. 😂
Vlog with King wow that's great. But id like to see you do daily vlogs, tips and tutorials. Plus your videos are getting better and better a lot. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks for the encouragement. Will be back soon!
For some reason I find jack really detestable but his storytelling is killer and this analysis is killer too.
love all your breakdowns and that you are a Christian!
Thanks for sharing the love man! Bros unite!
Why that guy not viral 🤔
Not good enough? Not lucky enough? Probably both. :D
@@VlogwithKing me also sir and I also upload long time,,,,,basically not consistent
Great job explaining his way of doing videos... But for me, that's only 'video-rumbling' to the extrem. That,s for me, it's a 1~1:20 of actual content that is extend to a 10min video. I quit normal broadcast because of that (and because of the publicity ratio versus content)... It may be just me, eating too much youtube video but i hope that's is not the new trend. lol
Haha, I do see what you mean, it can certainly be taken too far. 😂
Just binge 5 of your videos... got a new sub! Really like how you breakdown youtube videos. I want more ! :)
Thanks man! That means a lot! I’ll keep em coming then! And if there is any favorite vlogger you’d like me to do, I’m up for suggestions. 👍
your welcome king. You can do Peter McKinnon with is +20% b-roll in a video or matti haapoja maybe ? But anybody is fine with me !
sorry, haha, what did you mean by "with is +20% b-roll"? 😅
Doggonit I have lots of talking head footage... Darn it haha
Haha, I guess I poopoo'd the talking headshot a little too much to make this point. 🙈But it's interesting that it works for certain types of niches. But, in the end, it's definitely more visually engaging if there's variety. 😁
Allthough I am not a vlogger I sill think I can learn something to use in my clips
You're right. Storytelling is storytelling. Despite my videos being more focused on vlogging, storytelling is universal across medium I think. The techniques might be different, but the logic is the same. 😊
Vlog with King short update I uploaded my first real vlog with me in front of the camera
Everyone gotta stop copying Casey Neistat. He's someone that I've always looked up to. But CASEY NEISTAT teaches, don't learn from other people because you WON'T know how to develop your OWN style. Write your OWN rules, unfortunately. This dude seems nice, and Jack Conte seems cool, but he doesn't know much better. Go out, grab a camera, and try to limit yourself and create your own art. I started out doing the "casey" thing, and then I found I enjoyed working on film sets so I do that now. and direct... i kinda do a lot of things i like. Its unfortunate how everyone wants to BE "CASEY NEISTAT" but doesn't understand his philosophy properly
Hey man, completely agree with you that we shouldn't copy others, especially Casey. But as someone starting out, I have to respectfully, disagree with you AND casey on this point if he said we shouldn't learn from others. (Obviously he's very open about learning from Peter Mckinnon and Jake Paul) Anyway, of course, if we only learn and copy, and don't adapt what we learn into our own style, it's kinda pointless. I'm glad you have found your own style on film sets, but for the rest of us, the moment we stop learning is probably the day we'll stop growing. Anyway, definitely agree with you we should stop copying Casey, it's a journey for the student to step out of the master's shadow, albeit a very distant master. 😎
