I think storytelling is still super underrated. A lot of times people get caught up in the flashy edits and visuals but more than anything we humans are designed to listen and remember stories. Awesome video bro!
Yeah, it's true. I guess it's just not that easy to tell a great story, and the flashy stuff can be fun. I definitely want to get better at it, hopefully these lessons I'm learning will continue to be useful. 😁
*3 Storytelling Secrets to Vlog like Casey Neistat:* 1. Visual Storytelling 2. End your story 3. Mix it up 4. (bonus) "It's not about documenting your day even if You're doing daily vlogging, It's not about documenting Your day, It's about sharing Your unique human experience."
Thanks FlyRyde! Hope you find more helpful things! Don't hesitate to let me know what I could help with. I'm back and I'll be creating more of this type of content soon.
I've noticed that a lot of "youtube gurus" tell you how much titles, thumbnails, click through rates, audience retention, etc are important. And they show you how to look up trending words and what websites or apps to use for that. But very few go into "story telling" and how to make actually good videos. It's truly amazing how few do that, for all how much they espouse "We aren't in competition, guys!" lmao. Hoping this is a great video that helps me out :D
This is a brilliant breakdown of Casey Neistat's vlogging style with very perceptive insights of your own included, and it's crystal clear you did a lot of research and thinking about how it works so well. Thank you very much for sharing!
Good tips bro! It's really cool you really went in and studied his Casey's videos. I'm excited to see what other kinds of stuff you have on this channel now that I've subscribed!
Man, great break-down! That was very interesting. I love how people have the ability to break away from the episode and analyze how it was done. Great job man!
I have watched a lot of videos from Casey and others critiquing him but your video nailed the most important elements. You were direct and to the point. Worthy of my time brother. Great job. Keep it up and I’ll keep popping by to check out your content.
This was pure awesomeness! I have been watching Casey forever, and trying to analyse him, but I ALWAYS get carried away...YOU did an amazing job of unpacking bits of his vlogs. I could bingewatch your breakdown of Casey, though he does so much himself at conferences. Thank you.
Your video is so well told, entertaining, and provides HUGE value. We're long time watchers of Casey and never noticed the things you pointed out. Subscribed!
Hey, this is actually really cool. The second tip blew my mind - it seems so simple, but I always think of this rule as like, a given thing that everyone talks about but won’t really help because it’s too obvious. ESPECIALLY when it comes to tiny almost irrelevant moments, like with the camera. But you analyzed & really showed quite clearly that it absolutely does work and that without it the story would lose a lot. Thank you for making this video!
Yeah, it totally blew my mind too, when I had this revelation. I guess perspective is really everything. :D Thanks for spending the time to leave this comment. Hope you'll find other videos on the channel about storytelling just as fun and insightful :)
Man, I am glad I came across your channel. You definitely put the time into your work and it is not only well edited, but educational and entertaining! You are quickly becoming my favorite channel to watch.
You nailed this video man. Definitely subscribed. I'm trying to improve my storytelling in my daily vlogs and your last point put it best. Its about sharing an experience and not just documenting your day. Be creative about how you want to portray your perspectives
You nailed it man, never understood why I was so captivated by Casey's vlogs but it's definitely his ability to tell a story. Thanks for sharing this! Btw, the one I found most helpful was visual storytelling. I can talk, it seems to be my giftedness and curse. Lol. But I can see that telling the story visually is so much more powerful than with words.
Understand that. I'm used to hopping up on a stage and people listening to me for 40+ minutes, that's not the case with video on UA-cam. Still learning but I think we're getting better at it.
Wow. So I’m super fascinated w him and I’ve been trying to learn what he’s doing as I’m starting my channel. Anyway this has been extremely helpful. I’m gonna sub and see what other stuff you cover. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot man. I just checked out your channel. Seems like you guys are doing really well. A lot of charisma! Love the idea of having no bills, and working 2 hours a day. 😁
#163 here! This is an awesome video!! "End your story" gosh I relate to this.... I ramble forever and probably have never completed the narrative lol.I love how you dissect him to help people get better at his style- Casey is so good, but it is so difficult to master! Love your channel and can't wait to see more! - Steph
Very educational your breakdown. I like how you talk about changing the angles and change your own camera angle. Walking while you talking. Unexpected Spanish word at the end.
Thanks Yisus. Appreciate that. I studied animation, and many old animations had that, so I like using it. Haha, didn't realize people actually cared or missed it! Haha, I'll keep that in mind! 😆
How have I not seen your channel before now? Your videos, this one in particular, are great. I definitely have some things to work on with my vlog-style editing. Had to subscribe, keep up the great work bro!
Thanks man. I'm back from uploading daily on Instagram. So, hopefully, I'll be able to create more content like this soon! If there is anything specific topic you'd find helpful on. Do let me know!
Wow! That's all I can say. This was so informative! Thanks for the tips. I am learning how to edit on beat. There is so much I need to learn and want to learn. There is a certain style I want to get to. But I guess over time with practice it will happen. 😄😃
(Most Valuable Lession) Mix it up. I have gotten lazy in my shooting I need to start shooting more cuts to help me cut together a better story! Glad I just found your channel
Thanks Tekky Thai! Glad you found these useful! There are a few other story/vlog related videos on the channel. If you have a favorite vlogger you want me to breakdown, don't hesitate to let me know. 😁
Funny how suggested videos annoy me until I give in. Glad I did. You are good. Subbed. I love that you get how to dissect the blogs. This video should help me blogs/
Really glad to hear that you're finding this helpful. Definitely will produce more. I'm thinking doing a breakdown on either David Dobrik or Peter Mckinnon next.
Very cool break down of Casey's style. I will definitely use this when making my next video. I think I could definitely work on my storytelling, it such a powerful tool for a creative person to perfect to go hand in hand with their personality.
I watch a lot of Casey’s vlog and your videos keeps on popping up on my timeline. Maybe it’s your titles, description or tags but I finally clicked on this video and your amazing at story telling and your video editing is amazing. I’m totally subbing and following your channel. Keep up the grind and hope nothing but the best for you!!! 🤙🏽
@Angel Mondragon I know what you’re talking about. It took me a while to start, mostly because somehow we feel insecure. Life is just inviting us to be ourselves and stop seeking validation from others. I made the jump and I really enjoy every moment of it, and it’s b doing that we get better. Especially when it’s about something that matters to us. Life is Now and I’m sure you’ll be going very fine. Enjoy
Phi Hai Phan appreciate it, bro. I have started my planning this week and I will execute next week. I think my primary hesitation stemmed from not knowing how to capture angles and look foolish talking in a camera publicly, especially when I have > 100 subs lol. But I think I need to realize that it will not he perfect at the start and over time (assuming my content is good) the suns will follow.
@@NoveltyKnown just enjoy the process. Often I record myself in the streets just for the fun and challenge of it. Don't even know if I'm gonna use it for my vids. It's also part the process because I just enjoy experimenting, sharing my thoughts and experience. It opens a lof of doors. To be honest I'm doing it for my self. To expose my self and to invite myself to be authentic and free 😁🙏
Subbed! Great insight into story telling and how Casey does it so well. Trying to get better at mine! Keep up the content. Loved the bit about editing to the beat btw!
I agree with the story telling side of things, but also worth noting how powerful editing out all the unnecessary stuff is to that process. I feel Casey was better at this himself when his stories were much shorter.
So true. Perhaps the audience is also changing. I see a lot of people complain about how videos after his daily vlogging days are not as good as the old ones. Usually, the reason is that he's doing too many shout-outs. I wonder though, in 2018, if he went back to his old vlogging ways. Would it still be as well received? Or would that be more of a 'been-there-done-that' thing? Any thoughts?
I was a huge fan boy (which is a weird thing to say at my age) and am grateful for beme because that's where I made a lot of close friends. The beme shutdown experience did sour my view of him but that's a long story. I actually unsubscribed from him late last year because I found him boring. I honestly think he's just far too busy with far too many business things (work smarter, not harder! lol). I do check back in now and then. Film Making Is A Sport was disappointing. Nothing really new that he hadn't already covered with some of his excellent earlier work. The creative sparks I'm seeing here and there are actually things done by other editors that he's having work with him. When I watch him now I don't get the feeling that he is in love with vlogging. And while he won't admit it, he's mostly one big advert. But then, that is why he started daily vlogging in the first place. He had something to sell us. That of course doesn't change the fact that so many of us have gotten some positive things from him along the way. I do wish him well.
Wow, that's an amazing summary. Thanks for sharing. I think many people will concur in your feelings and perspective. Ouch on the 'work smarter, not harder' comment! LOL someone should trick him into getting a surprise tattoo, and tattoo work smarter on his arm. Hahaha. I'm still subscribed cause I'm hoping something would change. But I suppose it is pretty hard to top what he did at the time.
