For kind of a young guy, you sure show a lot of diverse talent on so many different levels. I like that you don't go the cheap route on material, you build it to last. Great job.

That is a great modernization of an old machine. Be prepared for the fun of the pivot rebuild. I hope it goes fast and easy for you!

We have a $2350 dollar Backhoe. 1962 JD 2010 wheel. They only made them until 64. Its a POS white Elephant. We cant get parts for it. The power steering and brakes dont work. In fact the power steering hyd oil sometimes comes out the top of the steering collum. Most of the Hyd cyls leak and the rams are rusted and pitted. However that old junk pile will really dig. It has a 14ft reach and wobble sticks and a great big pump driven from the front of the crankshaft. Its the fastest and strongest digging rubber tired backhoe Ive ever ran.

They make a flat knife style blade for old Weller soldiering guns that works well for cutting the nylon hose cover.

That hose cover must be Kevlar and it dose get hard to cut.
I just used a small cut off wheel on a die grinder.

I do use something similar to protect the hoses on my welder and plasma cutter, cheap lifesavers.

A simple propane torch has done the job for me for everything from backing plate tiny but special bolts to replacing the cross over burner in the Weber grills I restore. Honestly I wish I had tried years before as it would have saved a lot of swearing and broken bolts or studs. Peace
Edit: again, thanks for the welding lessons as I finally bought one instead of bugging my buddy who has 9 welders.

You should have all the hydraulics coming out of the top of that loader control block matching the older metal pipe coming off of there. I would be in danger of getting ripped off by branches.

Righty tightly leftie loosie but at least you made sure the filter housing was good and tight before you took it off. If you had turned the filter housing the correct direction while on the tractor it would have come off easily. when in the vice you had the adjustable wrench turned the wrong way for loosening things unless space for swing is a problem. When possible ALWAYS pull with the force against the fixed jaw.

Just bought a 1974 Case 580C. Enough of the Chinese toy mini excavator junk. This thing has some power, and I mean hydraulic power. I worked around these machines in the late 70s and early 80s. There not pretty or fancy but they work and are strong.

    • @TF856
      @TF856 2 роки тому

Chinese mini excavators are junk compared to everything else on the planet!
That's not saying much about any other brand that they are compared to.
Case, some people swear by them and some people swear at them.
Lots of people don't like the backhoe controls, and some don't like the loader controls.
Historically case backhoes have also been accused of being too light for heavy duty work.
They were also known as the poor man's backhoe.
They were bought by people who could not afford a better brand.
But some people still like them better than the others, for some reason.
Case had a lot better reputation in the agricultural industry.

@@TF856 I will tell you this, the 680 Case backhoe and loader will run circles around most of those new excavators. It is not light, it has air brakes on it because it weighs about 15,000 lbs. It is not to light at all.
