Thank you for this. After about 10 minutes my 800 series grill would stop working after getting to the desired cook temperature. I did your under grill wiring setup and everything worked fine. I didn’t think it was the fan with mine since it heats up pretty quick. I ordered a replacement fan also from amazon just incase as it seems those go out too. I’ve had mine for 2.5 years and this was first issue I’ve had with it.
Thank you! I ended up doing this for all 3 just so I can rule out what is not working with the MB. It ended up being the fan once I put a new one in lol. Anyways I am staying with this because it does rule out the switches being bad doing it this way the next time it stops working on me.
If you're fully commited to the bypass, just cut out the connectors and join the black wires together. Use heat shrink to make it look better. You can always re-install the connectors if you want.
Bypassing the way he did in this video won't void any warranties. If you just cut the wires and join them together, any warranty you may have will most definitely be voided.
You are a life saver! The chimney switch burnt out on me and the lid switch is a pain in the Boston butt. This is exactly what I was looking for. Also thanks for the links! Subscribed 😅
Thanks for the video and links. I have an 800 - Almost a year old and luckily no issues so far. I may pick up those connectors just in case. I am temped by the rack;-)
is it common for a brand new grill to have the fan issue? worked once on burn off then nothing $500 dollar machine for something simple not to work. but ill be getting these for by pass thank you
One of these got me about an hour and a half into a cook Grrr. So I just moved my brisket over to my pellet grill. I am putting in toggle switches in parallel to original plunger switches. This won't get me again.
Hey! Thanks for the vid. If the tin foil trick doesn’t kick in the fan is there a problem elsewhere? Fan stopped after I opened the hopper lid and wouldn’t come back on after closing. This was the first fire up after winter. Was fine for 30 mins then stopped.
So my 560 fan wont turn on. I think its the switches and want to buy/make the loops. If i do that and the fan wont turn on still, what would be the next think to replace...fan itself. Control board, plug seem to be working fine...just cant it to turn on. May be i try the short term foil truck first to see if that gets it turned on. Link for the bypass loops?
I realize this is a year old vid but I just found it researching this grill. May I ask why the need to unplug the bypass you installed to open the hopper lid to add charcoal? Thank you.
No worries. I try to manage all comments :) Anyways, the reason is if you allow the fans to run while you open that chimney, you run the risk of really creating a flame thrower out of the top. I've singed my eye brows before. Just be careful, but its not 100% needed if you are quick to add more. The flame risk is low when the hopper is very full and more of a risk when the hopper is low. Just a lot of oxygen entering the system.
I am super remedial and I wasn't sure what you did with the wires to get them in to that connector then connecting it back to the grill itself. Can you spell it out for me please?
Hey great video. I recently brought the fireboard 2 pro for my 1050. So i brought the cables that were made for the masterbuilt to use with the fireboard. Did u also use that? Just curious as to how u have ur fireboard connected? Tnk u.
Maybe you can help me. I’m having trouble running steady temperatures with my FireBoard it shoots way past temp. I can’t seem to hold a steady. Do you have any advice?
I don't think you can. Twisting the together and using electrical tape would work just fine honestly. There also is a product called solder seal that you can use a heat gun to connect the wires but honestly that's likely too much work.
Question for you. I bypassed the switches with the ones you linked to in your other video. I also added the Fireboard drive 2. Every once in a while I get a lid error even though they are bypassed. Any ideas? I twisted the switch wires and sealed all three. Should I replace the 3 ? Thx
A lid error on a fireboard? Try going into the settings. There’s something to do with the lid in there. I think mainly it’s designed to cut the fans off if the ambient temp drops temp too quickly. Then it pauses the fan output for a set time. Sorry, I hope that helps!!
My fan went out a couple of months ago on my 560. I replaced the switches and to no avail. I want to replace the fan or possibly the controller but don’t want to buy unnecessary parts. You think the tin foil trick could work for? If so how exactly do I do it?
I would absolutely try it first. Likely chance it helps! Just stuff tin foil in the connectors I show. You want to make contact of the two pins in each plug.
So now I have to watch a how to video on connecting wires and electrical work... I'm hoping cramming in tin foil will solve as wiring is not something I've done. But this explains why I can't get fan running at 500....
Not entirely. The temp switches will give you a hassle but it’s easy to work around. I’m using Fireboard due to the consistency of temp, the app experience and because I’m a tinkerer at heart and I can’t leave well enough alone!
@@YayaOrchid honestly I’m not sure but I doubt it’s vastly different. I’ve only owned the 800 but generationally speaking it came out after the 560 so it may be improved.
The bypass works on the two hopper sensors when connect the pins.... but when I do it on the connector by the mother board for the lid switch nothing happens? Am I missing something?
@@Smokingmeatsbbq I see what you're saying here. What I don't understand is even though I'm not at 500° yet the fan is running, I disconnect it and the fan stops. I use a screwdriver to ground the two contact pins to each other and it will not turn on again
could be your fan too... I contacted masterbuilt about the issue and they sent a new one. It worked the second I plugged it in. This thing cooks really well but it feels like it's made out of about $45 worth of parts.

Have to let you know that this video saved my cook. The tin foil trick worked a treat, my family and friends thank you :)

My Masterbuilt Gravity series 600 came with a detached wire to the ash door sensor this video helped me get it up and running. happy pre 4th of July!
Awesome! Happy 4th!
Another testimonial here. Saved a low and slow 12 hour plus butt cook for 4th of July. Will be buying the connectors and bypassing the switches
Love it! Happy fourth!! We have a brisket on too!
@Smokingmeatsbbq I really appreciate your Redneck "in a pinch" solution and then a more professional safer solution.

Nice thanks for watching. Yes that rack is nice and cheap compared to the other options out there :)
Good stuff! That rack is nice i have to say
A paperclip 📎, preferably small to medium, works best. Open the paperclip and punch the ends into the connector.
That works too.

Yea thats a great way to handle it too!
Great video!
My question is how does the fan regulate heat if you bypass and complete circuit for the fan?
It still works as intended. I only bypassed the lid/door sensors.

Make sure the connections at the board are good… check your fan too and make sure mice haven’t made a home in it haha
Happened to me once also after starting a cook I just gave it a gentle spin with a screwdriver and off it went working

Do at your own risk but if you’re only smoking that lid switch isn’t ever active anyway. It’s only active at 500+ degrees
