I bought a battery with a 12 volt output. I run the cable under the shelf and into the rear door, 1050 has one, and just stick the end of the battery into the door keeping out of the way and not using up shelf space. Works very well and the smoker hardly discharges it, making for many cooks (long cooks) on a single charge. :-)
Heck yes!
Those are grate tips
Thanks! Glad you found them useful :)
Good info 👍👍
I was just about to spend big bucks on the ash catch mod.... you can throw wood chunks on that for more flavor. I love it! Thanks so much for this!!!!
Thats awesome to hear. Always fun when you can save money on something so simple. This was by far one of my favorite mods to date!
What do you use to cut the expanded sheet metal with? I'd love to try that out but not if I need to buy a $200 tool to size a $20 piece of metal correctly. :)
I “rented” a pair of $20 tin snips from Home Depot. And by rented I mean, returned afterwards :)
Have you used the battery pack in cold weather? Wondering how long the charge would last when it's below freezing.
Using it today actually! I do notice less time but it’s not massive. Certainly enough to cook all day.
Good to know. I'm definitely ordering one.
Nice!!
Chicken looks yummy... 🙂
It was!
I’m not even joking when I say that I am seriously considering buying a smoker soon. We LOVE the rare opportunity that we get to eat someone else’s smoked food, so why not try it myself! Great run down of accessories that I’ll consider after I buy a smoker. Thanks for the video, and Great Looking channel!
Thank you! Happy to help when you’re ready to make a decision !!
What hole size is that grate you used? And would you go bigger or smaller next time or is it just right?
The vent is actually one of the best mods. *Reducing the hot smokey air velocity* can improve flavour and make cooking much more consistent. Like having the damper on a chimney on an offset smoker, controlling the vent is crucial, in my opinion. After installing the vent on my 1050 I found flavour increased dramatically and brought it close to my offset smoker flavour. I run the vent at about 1/2 the openings in the vent which probably translates to 30% open vent in relation to the unvented slot. 🙂
I need to play with it more. Just finding the right color smoke is important but I still stand firm on that it is maybe not worth the amount of money they charge, but it was an improvement.
where did you buy the vent mod from?

Great tip on the GST connectors and the 5 V/12 V adapter, good job!
Cheers!
Man, that ash bucket grate is a fantastic idea.
Thank you!
@@Smokingmeatsbbq Plus you can put wood chunks in it and get more smoke!
I ordered the solar battery the other day! Still waiting for it, a coworker asked about over night cooks, is there enough charge to run one? Keep making content and thanks for the cool ideas.
Oh 100% enough battery for overnights with this. I've not charged mine in a while and I've done over 10 hours of cooking on it over the holiday weekend.
Looks like I responded with my other channel! Sorry about that. Yes, plenty of time to run overnight. Hope you're enjoying it by now :)
Are you still using the same power brick, and will a 8000 mAh brick work do you think
I am! I do sometimes use different ones but I like my solar brick. Yea an 8k will work fine
Is the solar block water proof/resistant ?
I believe somewhat but I wouldn’t personally leave it outside since it’s so easy to disconnect.
the battery bank only has a 5v output, pluging it in the adaptor doesn't change the voltage output so yours fans are only operating at half the required voltage, and the instant temp is doing exactly the same as the probes attached to bbq
It certainly does increase voltage otherwise the MB unit wouldn’t power. It has a 5v to 12v step up built in.
While you’re right, an instant probe reads temperature the same as a probe inside, it also allows you to check multiple points of meat or check multiple steaks at a time, chickens, etc. an instant probe is my most used cooking tool.
That wireless battery trick is pretty damn cool! Do you have mods for the hopper lid, firebox or manifold drip catch?
I don’t! Everything else works so well, I’ve not added those. Considering a drop catch but using the top racks and tin foil trays do the trick when I’m smoking greasy stuff!
And yes the battery mod rules!
What dimensions did you cut that sheet metal mesh to make your ash catcher mod?
I honestly just bent and cut it until it fit. I didn't make measurements.
I thought chicken had to be cooked to a 165 degrees
Really is a good "rule of thumb". However, I've found that if you pull right at 165, and rest, you will get the temps to peak much higher in the rest. Also, it technically is 100% safe to eat. Look up Pasteurization charts. Sure the FDA says 165 instantly pasteurizes something, but your chicken is cooking much longer and it is safe to eat at lower temps. Nobody likes a slimy chicken so just find what profile of meat works for you!

Great tip on the GST connectors and the 5 V/12 V adapter, was about to spend big money on alternative. was thinking about more probes also.Ash catch mode freat idea too. Thanks.
nice! Glad it saved you some $$
