    Thanks for being clear and honest. Lots of youtubers make it sound like you must buy a 2000 dollar welder and the cheap ones are worthless. Now I see these cheap welders have there place

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  4 місяці тому +7

      They do have their place and that was my point . I wouldn't dare build a utility trail with one ( it wouldn't be safe ) . But for DIYs they are great . And they are a low price point and help to get you hands on training to help you learn by doing it and improve your skills . I've took welding classes which are also important , they teach you what a good weld is and looks like . But I still couldn't weld even after taking classes until I spent hours with the lead in my hands , using it . But most people are hands on learners . And that their place . After you learn a little more about welding . Then just like fishing. Your going to want better equipment too improve your skills further. And if and when you do go to a better machine you'll find out fast you could weld way better than you thought you could . Because good welders really do produce better results . So I'm not saying this welder is just as good . It's just an affordable way to get started

      For a nervous novice like me, this gets me in the door with minimal investment, and since I'm only planning on occasional use, this should be more than adequate. If Project Farm is a good indication, HF welders do alright compared to other Chinese machines. Thanks for this detailed video explanation for people like me.

    As a professional welder for 30 years, I've used quite a few different machines. There are plenty really good cheap machines on the market, harbor freight is probably the cheapest and they do work! You just have to consider what it is you're wanting to do with it. Anything over 1/8 th inches and you're better off spending the $ on a better one or bring your project to a pro. Just saying! Love the content keep it up! From a Welder & stuff 😁

    A BIG BLACK EYE FOR HARBOR FREIGHT
    I have a Harbor freight TITANIUM FLUX 125 WELDER purchased from Harbor Freight a couple years ago. I am a retired plumbing contractor and backyard hobbyist. I love to build things in my spare time and help friends and neighbors that need something repaired. When I retired and closed my business, I had a stick welding machine but had no convenient place to connect it at my home! It would require an upgrade to my electrical service not worth the trouble and expense! When I saw a couple reviews on UA-cam for this Titanium 125 welder, I thought that would be the way to go. I already had a 110 Volt 30 Amp circuit to my workshop!
    It took me a while to get adjusted to the flux wire welding. I built a minibike from scrap pipe I had left over from the plumbing shop. The welder allowed me to make other things and make repairs for others I wouldn’t be able to do without it.
    In the middle of my last project, I cut a couple pieces of metal and got ready to weld them and when I pushed the button on the welder, nothing happened! It was dead! The fan did not come on but the light on the ON/OFF indicated there was power to the welder. I checked the manual for a reset button or a fuse and found no mention of either.
    So, I called the Harbor Freight 800 number and was told there was no repair for this welder. Harbor Freight has no repair facility, and no support is available. I was told by two different tech reps there is no schematics or parts list available from the factory where this is manufactured. “It is not worth getting it repaired and cheaper to go purchase a new one!” If you purchase this welder or many other things from Harbor Freight You only have 3 Months Warranty. It is considered disposable after that!
    All the reviews and discussion I have read about HARBOR FREIGHT I have never seen anything about their total lack of support for their products! I didn’t even get an “I’m sorry” or any offer for a discount on a new welding machine!
    I am retired, was an electronics technician in the Navy, active Ham Radio operator and electronics hobbyist. I feel like the electronics in this welding machine is straight forward non computer controlled and any decent electronics tech should be able to repair this given reasonable support. I removed the circuit board from the welder and found where a small component burned of course not knowing the component value or purpose will make it difficult to replace. Providing a schematic and parts list is a very inexpensive form of support that should be a minimum requirement. Their claim to revenue of 7 Billion Dollars tells me they could afford it!

    Just a tip I wanted to throw back up to ya: If you can't get your weld hot enough, you can put the ground clamp directly onto it to make the weld hotter. Or move what you're welding closer to the grounded area of the table. Inverse is true, too, if you're blowing through something thin, do what you can to maximize distance and also contact between the to-be-welded material and the table. Another thing that can be done is a weld-backer material. Like a chunk of aluminum, behind the two things trying to be welded. Handy if you gotta weld something delicate.

    • @cilismoniker7322
      @cilismoniker7322 11 місяців тому +7

      In a pinch you can also weld thicker material past 3/16ths, but you have to pre-heat the things to be welded with a propane torch. To black hot. Welding that way has to be done on firebricks though, a metal table would suck away the heat.

I've been apprehensive about getting I to welding due to the fact that people I know who weld won't take the time to show me. I'm a hands on learner so buying books is a waste of money. This machine is fantastic for what it is. Where it shines is it's ability to be plugged in anywhere there is 110v 15a including a generator. Windy, fine it's flux. Dirty, it's fine it's flux. I welded an offroad bumper with swing outs using this as well as a 4 link. The Millermatic 211 is my other go to and would be my choice if the conditions allow but for on the go, tight places with limited voltage, this things pays the bills.

    I have one of these and it has done everything I need it to do. I run .030 wire since most say it works better with it, and I also upgraded to a Lincoln ground clamp since the one it comes with is a little too cheap for me. I mainly use mine for sheet metal patches on my truck which is probably the hardest thing to weld with this machine, but it's been doing a great job.

    My only complaint about this welder is the angle of the torch head. I'd rather have something with a little more bend to it so it doesn't feel like I have to hover over the top of whatever I'm welding. Otherwise, I love this thing. We welded hinges onto garden fence posts, beefed up an office chair where the sheet metal of the seat was bending, fixed our lawn mower axle. Every single one of those welds has held great.

    I have a really sophisticated tig welder I use on frames, but most of my other welding I do with a stick welder (also flux core, except on the surface of the wire) I bought it from Harbor Freight. I have a wood shop, and I don't like welding indoors, unless it is tig. That is something to consider. If you are going to weld outdoors, you can't use gas anyway. I make decent welds, then I "Bondo" over them with 5 min epoxy and paint. They look perfect and water doesn't hand on them. I have made everything from furniture to trailer parts with my little stick welder, could just as easily be wire feed/MIG. If you want to do professional work that you are selling bare, you need gas, but to do stuff around the home and shop, these cheap welders are great.

    Don’t forget you have the auto feed so you don’t have to hold the trigger it’s inside where the wire goes into on the right side it’s the little black switch. I have the first one when they came out with the titanium it burns a lot hotter then the new ones do. I do z or circles weaves and I run my hotter and able to move a little faster as well . Works great outside in the wind as well. I run my wire speed faster as well you can get flux core stainless steel welding wire for it as well . I run it at work for all the kitchen stainless I weld up without having to bring the bigger welder and dragging the gas bottle in. Great review and demo, thanks. Like you, I'm an experienced lifetime welder and have a 250 amp Miller Mig that I use with 100% CO2 from a 50lb. bottle (most economical gas) and 0.035 ER70S6 45lb. spools of bare solid wire. Also have an engine powered Miller portable, and other big stick and tig machines, and a plasma cutter. (very similar to your shop..).
    I bought me one of these exact HF machines and I'm not unhappy with it. It is very handy and portable, and works surprisingly well. Had to get used to the different technique for flux core
    (you describe it perfectly). I find it very handy for tacking fabrications together outside in the wind, and then coming back later and weld it all up with the big Miller machine, or even stick welding.
    Just a 120volt extension cord and this little Titanium let's me move around outside easy without having to drag the big Miller all over. This little Titanium is more powerful than it looks. Am not sorry I got it. Am not reaching for it for the big stuff, but if it's all you had, and you're patient with it, it could do a surprising amount of work. The inverter power supplies make the newer welders small and light and still capable. Everything else I have is the older transformer type units and are all heavy and hard to move around. Thinking about getting myself one of those Titanium DC stick welder (inverter powered) machines. Small and light is nice for us older guys.

      Thank you . If you think your going to like welding . I'd upgrade to a mig welder so later you can just add gas instead of having to purchase a new welder

    Been wanting to be able to weld for some time but it was complex and intimidating. You just made it simple. Thank you!
