OK! Here is the tas so far: ua-cam.com/video/ThQZl7L6sOk/v-deo.html& (it's a playlist because the recording got split up into pieces) I've been working on this for over a year now, it started as just me trying to get a maxout, I was very bad at the game then, and the first hour really shows that. Near the very end I try doing it with only tetrises.
@@solblackfire3237 yoooo I've been doing so many other things. Since I posted the videos there it got like, 6 minutes longer or something. Also the emulator keeps crashing every 3-5 minutes purely because of it's length, if it wasn't frustrating enough. I'm probably not gonna continue doing it.
at 6:48 the music loops for the first time in regular speed; it's the first time the game gets through the whole piece without the stack getting high enough to trigger uh-oh mode, which resets it every time! after that, it only goes into fast mode again at 10:33, and very briefly at that! after that it briefly goes into fast mode for a few seconds at a time sporadically. @@airtioteclint tas is not fully human because an emulator with save states is used instead and all wrong RNG’s and wrong mistakes are save stated out of it and all mistaken moments are edited ou,t as well , now that’s not perse a bad thing no, it shows for what the human (aslong the RNG works in it’s favor) could in theory achieve such incredible high score, but like i said if a human could just achieve such high score live or prove it via a legit footage of it, that would be really mind blowing.
I have a question, and a kinda stupid one at that: At the end of the game, all the pieces stack up and you lose. Does the game prevent you from moving at that point, or did the program stop running because it met its goal? Like could this go on forever hypothetically if the program kept running? Does it restart at level 0/level 256 back to standard gameplay or does it just stop working?
Theoretically you can go on playing forever, provided that your piece placement/line clear doesn't trigger the crash (this TAS implemented a cap specifically to prevent it from crashing). When the level counter passes 255 and wraps back to zero, the pieces revert to their original speed. This player deliberately topped out the moment it wrapped around.
Nah I just quit because I didn’t want to keep going, but you can theoretically keep going forever. This was not make with a bot, I entered every input manually. After level 255 it goes back to level 0 including the speed, color palette and points per line, but keeps stats such as lines, piece counters, and score
the reason the stackrabbit video got the long level on the green level (level 235) is because it started on level 19. When you start on levels past level 10, the line requirement to get past the first level is weird. it takes 140 lines to get to level 20 from a level 19 start due to a bug. The line count has to pass about 2190 lines (L90) before things break down, though in the SR video it does it at M90 due to the starting level.
@@alecrutz956 Actually, the "Level 96" it's Level 219, and to pass to Level 220 yo need 810 lines. As you said, you need 10 lines to pass every level, except this one. I noticed that because when level 219 starts, it marks that you have L10 lines (that are 2190), and when it starts level 220 (shown as level 85), the lines show that you reach U00 lines (3000 lines), which are a differnce of 810 lines. Also, the lines indicator can show you after level 29 in which level are you, until level 100, where it starts showing letters, being A=1000 lines and Level 100, B= 1100 lines and level 110 and so on...
I guess a hypothetical RTA "256" run (assuming you avoid the crashes) would be around 70-80 minutes (being very generous with time estimates here). I know crash triggers and dodges are documented, but even with that knowledge, how luck-dependent would such a run be? (eg. getting favourable pieces)
Because of a glitch called "confetti", there's actually a nice checkpoint somewhere mid-colours (before the 800-something line level) where the players can take a break and resume play when they want
On one hand, it feels silly to be watching this all the way through. It's just Tetris, and yet I find myself so enamored in it's gameplay in a way I can't even comprehend.
I find it quite fortuitous that boys haircut and the game have about the same release date. Tetris gods were waiting for the hair style to re emerge to crown it’s only victor
After Z99 it starts using different characters and eventually other textures in the game before rolling over to 000 at 25600 lines. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/W8GcxyLoUHE/v-deo.html
1:08:00 that is the "rebirth" where its suppost to display 256 (100000000) but sience its 8 bit it reads it as "00000000" witch is the same as 0, so that is how it works
The game runs at 60 fps and it measures the inputs once per frame, so the fastest tapping or rolling possible is 30 times per second (one frame pressing the button, one frame not pressing it. If you try press the button 60 times per second, the game will think you're just holding it down.
@@demartian8988 make sense so even if we try this with autoclicker (I mean over 200 clicks per sec) The game probable get comfused and works looks like as Das of the game was completely crush. So the game checked frame by frame, the best we can do was one frame on one frame off
Nice TAS! In this case, at 36:32 the level is that if you're advance to next level, the color and level doesn't change until next 10 lines again, this is why the bug mandatory prevents you to seek level 255 (A8, red solid palette) if without lua/hacks
The line counter tell what level it's on. So if it was 458 you delete the 8 to show that it's level 45. Ignore M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T because at Level 219 you need 810 lines to move on. That is U00 and now you can say it's level 200.
Would you be interested in making another video and providing some stats of what the AI is thinking? Id be interested in programming something to show the AI thinking along with this to help people understand why the AI is making these decisions.
This isn't an AI, this is me playing frame by frame and sometimes rewinding to change where I placed something or manipulate the RNG. An AI could never do this without being able to rewind because sometimes you just don't get the pieces you need.
The first 8 levels, when he intentionally kept the hole blocked up reminds me a person who is bored with life so they procrastinate on purpose for an added bit of challenge. 😂
so i have a question, multiple actually 1. why do colors break at d80 lines 2. is there any way to tell what level or your on? 3. why were there no pauses to change rng but you still got good peices? 4. why does the level counter break? 5. is the line counter a cheat code like the max out code? 6. why did the maxout cheat break? 7. isnt the hame supposed to break on level 150 or something, why doesnt it? 8. why did the level named “96” take more than 10 lines but everything else didnt?
1. the game fails to calculate the pointer to where the colors are stored because of and error in a mod 10 calculation, because of an overflow. 2. for the first 20(?) levels after 29 the level increases by 10 in hexadecimal. 3. RNG can be changed if the piece takes longer or shorter to lock on the stack. 4. the level display has an array where the decimal values are stored and it reads out of bounds. So there are no binary to decimal number conversions. 5. The score is programmed to stay at 999999 the linecouter isn't so it keeps on going into letters. 6. It should never break... I dont know why... 7. On NTSC the unmodified game crashes at ~1550 lines and PAL crashes at ~1950 the maxout code pushes the crash much later to ~Level 230 - 250 (I think) and PAL may run forever with the code 8. If you start a game in level 18 it should take 190 lines to go to level 19 but the game compares 13 Hex to 18 dec and concludes that 13 hex is larger than 18 dec and increments the level to early so the transision is at 130 lines this breaks even more with high level and line counts.
Hi, De Martian. This is unbelievable. I am completely amazed at the work done. But I have a question: why does the bot collect tetrises on the video, and when I run it on the emulator, it does not collect tetrises?
1:08:00 3,360 lines in total. 1,550 lines for the earliest crash. Rebirth and then earliest crash is an extreme total of 4,860 lines. Level 19 start is 4,810 lines; Level 18 is 4,820 lines.

Long level with an 800 line clear requirement starts at 45:07 and ends at 1:01:01
Turns out it ain’t always green.
never trust stackrabbit
the reason the stackrabbit video got the long level on the green level (level 235) is because it started on level 19.
You have the utmost respect and admiration of all Tetris players!
I can't believe we are actually thinking about doing this. After all this time, we are genuinely thinking about this being humanly viable
You know it’s real when the level number starts showing hexadecimal alphabet
45:08 the start of the 810 line level and ends at 1:01:04 (Level 96 to 85)
When you find out TAS is just a gaming chair company and these videos are just the employees testing the chairs out
0:04 what a great start for TAS when the I blok speens
I never thought I had that level of anxiety in me, well played sir!

Can you do a TAS for Popeye from NES that finishes after completing Level 256? That's far longer than Tetris to finish.
max out at level zero, damn that's insane
On one hand, it feels silly to be watching this all the way through. It's just Tetris, and yet I find myself so enamored in it's gameplay in a way I can't even comprehend.
I find it quite fortuitous that boys haircut and the game have about the same release date. Tetris gods were waiting for the hair style to re emerge to crown it’s only victor
4 years later a human beat this game.
Insane.

Yes but not fully beaten until 255 is cleared. That will probably take years if ever.

can you actually roll the line counter past the letter Z for lines? What would happen after that?
After Z99 it starts using different characters and eventually other textures in the game before rolling over to 000 at 25600 lines. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/W8GcxyLoUHE/v-deo.html
I really like the weird colours past kill screen
1:08:00 that is the "rebirth" where its suppost to display 256 (100000000) but sience its 8 bit it reads it as "00000000" witch is the same as 0, so that is how it works
One question tas hit the botton like 60 times per sec?
I mean is possible to see this in roller players? (now hit 20 times per second)
The game runs at 60 fps and it measures the inputs once per frame, so the fastest tapping or rolling possible is 30 times per second (one frame pressing the button, one frame not pressing it. If you try press the button 60 times per second, the game will think you're just holding it down.
@@demartian8988 make sense so even if we try this with autoclicker (I mean over 200 clicks per sec)
The game probable get comfused and works looks like as Das of the game was completely crush.
Oh
1:01:47
The line counter tell what level it's on. So if it was 458 you delete the 8 to show that it's level 45. Ignore M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T because at Level 219 you need 810 lines to move on. That is U00 and now you can say it's level 200.
Ok "speedy" yoshi.
@kenn Not really. Hex goes from 0 to F.
Nice movie, one of the best I've ever watched, got really emotional at the very end

1:03:53 what i think about nestris speed on level 9
so i have a question, multiple actually
1. why do colors break at d80 lines
2. is there any way to tell what level or your on?
3. why were there no pauses to change rng but you still got good peices?
4. why does the level counter break?
5. is the line counter a cheat code like the max out code?
6. why did the maxout cheat break?
7. isnt the hame supposed to break on level 150 or something, why doesnt it?
8. why did the level named “96” take more than 10 lines but everything else didnt?
1. the game fails to calculate the pointer to where the colors are stored because of and error in a mod 10 calculation, because of an overflow.
2. for the first 20(?) levels after 29 the level increases by 10 in hexadecimal.
7. On NTSC the unmodified game crashes at ~1550 lines and PAL crashes at ~1950 the maxout code pushes the crash much later to ~Level 230 - 250 (I think) and PAL may run forever with the code

32:54 beautiful sequence of perfect times beats
1:08:00 3,360 lines in total. 1,550 lines for the earliest crash. Rebirth and then earliest crash is an extreme total of 4,860 lines. Level 19 start is 4,810 lines; Level 18 is 4,820 lines.
why does the 6th digit of the score keep wrapping around from E to A, shouldd it be F to 0, or just countine using the next game graphic?
