The World Race is a missional journey offering young people the opportunity to live out the Great Commission around the world. They offer three programs for different age groups and length of time-The World Race, World Race: Gap Year, and World Race: Semesters.
The World Race is the original 11-month journey for 21-35 year-olds and visits 11 countries-that’s one country a month.
World Race: Gap Year is their nine-month journey for 18-20 year-olds and visits three different countries. This program is typically for 18 year-olds right out of high school.
World Race: Semesters are their shorter 1-3 month journeys for 18-22 year-olds that visit 1-3 countries.

    #1. Write a Support Letter
First, write a support letter explaining the mission trip and why you want to participate in this type of ministry. This is your opportunity to invite people to be a part of your ministry. Next, send it out to your community, your parent’s community, your church, friends, family, and anyone else that would be interested in joining your Support team. The tedious part about all of this is gathering the names and addresses of everyone you’re sending a letter to. Ideally, you want to meet with each person after you send them a support letter (but that might not always be possible). So, at the very least, you want to give them a phone call to follow up with each letter that you sent out. But, trust me, it’s worth it and effective.
Keep the letter simple and be clear that you are asking for support. Pro tip, hand write a personal message on each letter. Your supporters are on your team. Make them feel like it. You can also post a shorter version of this letter on your Social Media. Sharing your story will prove crucial in the fundraising process. And if you’re going on the World Race or one of our other programs, you’ll be given a blog and access to a fundraising course.
    #2 Start an Adopt-A-Box Fundraiser
Second, we are BIG fans of the Adopt-A-Box Fundraiser. This is fun, and gives your supporters something to engage with. To create your Adopt-A-Box, create a grid of small boxes. You can do this on a computer or by hand. You can make it big or small. Fill in the grid with numbers, either 1-50 or 1-100 depending on how many you want or need. A person will choose the box they want to adopt and donate the dollar amount of the number in that box. So, for example, box 25 would give a $25 donation. You can color it in, cross it out, or put a sticker on the box. Do something to indicate that box has been adopted. Then, post it all over your Social Media. Keep it updated and have fun with it.
#3 Sell Something You Own or Make
Third, sell something. We’ve had a lot of success with Racers having Garage Sales, selling custom-made jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, and t-shirts. T-shirts are one of the most successful things to sell. This gives you an opportunity to get creative and give something back to your supporters. If you don’t have any design ability to create your t-shirt, that’s ok. We suggest the company “Fund the Nations” to help with that. They are so easy to work with and will create an incredible design just for you.
#4 Speak at a Local Church
This idea might intimidate some people, but trust us when we say it is so worth it. Talk with your church leadership and see if they can schedule out a time for you to share about your mission trip. Even if public speaking isn’t your favorite thing, this is a great opportunity for you to invite your local community into the mission God has called you to. Even if you don’t have a local church community, see if you can get involved with a friend’s church or join one close to you. In addition to financial support, you will need a church’s support in prayer and encouragement.
    #5 Meet with Donors
Lastly and most importantly, meet face to face with people in your community and ask for their support. This is so crucial and, depending on your community, will be the most effective way to fundraise. People want to know what you’re doing and likely want to support you. But, they also want to feel connected to you. So, while all the other fundraisers I’ve mentioned can reach a lot of people who may give one time, meeting with people one-on-one and face-to-face is where you’re going to get supporters for the long haul.

The missionary can start a GoFundMe account (or other crowdfunding page) and point potential donors to it. This is particularly a good idea if the person wants to give, but can't do it right away. Planning early and letting people know about it is key.
