This is tricky advice for fundraisers because a lot of times people feel patronized with these stories and it’s easy to cut somebody off when you’re saying a very long story since most people have a short attention span
True but this is why it's very important to try and build some rapport early in the call, male them laugh... get them talking etc Once they can feel like this is a 2 way conversation they are much more likely to hear your story and pay attention.

I would agree, but giving my own experiences of trying to raise funds for a charity and seeing it first hand, I think the word trick is truly accurate in the context of some of what I've heard with my own ears.

Though I am in the middle of writing my memoir on overcoming the grief from child loss, and I really could use some help with all of the crowdfunding issue. I mean, your writing a book and people are starving. I think that's the sad reality that some have to do this to survive... And some just do it to write a book. No offence of course. I just did exactly this (I am a writer so it was not intentional, just the way I feel and the way I write) about a fundraiser to help my cat get the radiation therapy he needs to BEAT a rare cancer he has been diagnosed with. The response? My sister donated the most. And then out of literally hundreds of people, many of whom are multimillionaires, I had 2 donations. You know what this makes me feel like? An absolute failure of an anything. I can't do it better than I did and still not even the people I have helped the most in recent times give a damn. And I do not understand.
I feel you. I'm experiencing something similar. I am also a writer and definitely know the value of a compelling story especially when it's truth. I think I've done well with my campaign considering all things like the amount I've raised so far and the time it has taken to raise it as well as the donation amounts people have given. so, understand that I am grateful for this. The thing that is throwing me is the fact that almost all of the people who have donated are people who aren't even related to me or know me well. I guess it just hurts a little that my extended relatives even though they know about the fund raiser have just ignored it. I guess I should say that I am totally blind and the fund raiser is to get the funds I need to purchase some adaptive equipment that would give me back some control in my life by helping me to do some of the daily tasks I used to do when I had vision. My family knows this, but it doesn't seem to move them in anyway. Someone told me that perhaps personal appeals to each individual would make a difference. maybe so and I will try that since I'm only about 1/3 to my ultimate goal. Maybe I'm feeling some kind of way about doing this because it means humbling myself and opening myself up to criticism. I don't know. but the equipment (glasses loaded with software and some incredible functions) would be a game changer for me, so I'm going to get in that humbling place and ask each of my extended relatives for help. I fully understand and two years ago I came off of the streets and went to rehab on mother's day as a gift to my mom and grandma I've become clean and slowly progressing towards success in other parts of life but grandma had a stroke and was given six months to live she was/is were I am living so in order for her to come home I'd have to retrofit her old house to accommodate a wheelchair and other safety precautions along with other better care options for her but asking anyone for money is never been my strong suit along with my past and the way I'm perceived even my family wouldn't want to help me do that forget giving money that's not even a thought but they are voting for nursing homes Wich Gramma asked me not to do she wants to be home so for now she is trusting her money bills credit cards in my possession Wich family is not happy with so I'm brainstorming a way to help her get home in two three months I have 90 days to make it happen the main things are her septic system ramp hand rails heating possibly hospital style bed and van to be able to transport her for appointments whatnot so even though Hispanic families are fairly large I'm the last person they would trust not because I've done anything to them but because they've always treated me as a black sheep but I'm still going to try and asking for donations is hard for me but ill try and I have no social media presence so go fund me isn't going anywhere so I'm thinking first a yard sale? Hmm personally I wouldn't donate for a therapy for a cat too because to me it feels like you just want to "manipulate" me. Also a cat is some kind of luxury. I'm more the type of rational donator, who gives money to those who helped me a lot and who deserve it because they gave me added value. Sure, if I have a personal relationship with you, then I would probably donate money for the therapy. But it's also hard to know if you really need the money for the therapy or if it's just a cash grab.
Hmmmm I don't think I will ever ask for a donation again. Few months ago my mummy was going to be operated on, she's suffering from Rhuematiod atharatis. I went on one of the sites to ask for donation since I had no such money. 500$. But I got a lesson up-to-date I can still hear those hurting words vibrating in my Ears. Someone pretended to help me just to end up abusing me. He told me that we black monkeys we love free money, that we should work hard as if that wasn't enough for him, he told me that I should just buy poison and we take it because it's not expensive. It's now 8 months but those words still sounds fresh like the day was yesterday 😭😭😭😭😭. My only option was to get a loan of which am struggling to pay now. This world has tough and harsh people. Would a fundraiser be appropriate to prevent a service dog from being put down due to us not being able to afford kennel fees after travelling abroad to find that this is the cause of our veterinary’s negligence? Man I got some flashbacks to Kony 2012 here... Also just thinking of how this ties into movies, if the distressing conflict is resolved by a certain character, you could probably make the audience like that character and the ideals they represent more and see whatever they've done as the solution to similar distresses in day-to-day life. I'm sure certain groups already abuse this. Think hard about the culture wheel, and rationally about the real sources of distress in your life and how to overcome them (and whether it's even yours to deal with)! Bit of a tangent but this whole video is... obvious when you think about it but seeing it laid out so cleanly just feels a bit sick tbh! Us humans are a real hive mind... Take on others's stuff and feel it as our own and act... Being in a crowd, there's also a thing where showing a reaction makes the person watching "relay" the same reaction and the emotional expressions spread, even if you can't see the first person who reacted, you react on someone else's reactions (subtly) and it goes around... So maybe also watch out for the emotions being displayed in a story in that regard, with the idea that the person watching may be copying or relaying emotions of the characters based on that kind of crowd effect...
I don't like donating money, because once they get money the change everything you once like to a platform you really can't go to anymore. I say if I like a platform I don't donate and once they do well tough luck. It's better when the platform has few people on it.

I don't give a damn about a kid dying. High children mortality used to be a norm back in the day and people weren't so shocked about this fact. Probably I hear and read too many same old tearful stories about: sick children, dying children, crippled children, starving children and with the same story ending PLEASE DONATE, that I have an immunity for this trick. Everybody around at the end want your MONEY, not you or your HELP.
When you use the word TRICK you put doubt in people and that will fire back on you and on those with a good intention to ask for fund. Don't forget that if people lose trust in you or others all you plans will not take off either.

If they choose to help you, gratefully accept their donation, thank them etc and just bigger off.Don't try to grab more. If they refuse, just say "That's OK, have a good day ". And same applies ie you just bigger off. Charity seekers are now a serious form of privacy invasion, obstruction and harassment on digital devices, in the mail, in public places etc.Some tough new laws need to be passed and enforced, to control their activities and how, when ,why etc they carry them out. With heavy fines for breaches. I am sick of not being able to get into the entrance of my local grocery stores etc without being approached and heckled by charity collectors to give. I explain that I cannot, as I am a poor pensioner and the sort of typical answer they insult you with is "Well, how come you are out shopping if you have no money to give?" I mean, here I am trying to figure out if I can last one fortnight longer living on just a $1'bag of rolled oats, so I can pay my enormous electricity bill for power I never got to even use to stay warm, cook etc.And some foreign or millennial fucker is telling me I should not be spending my only dollar on basic food for my own survival but giving it to them, so they can live in style. I’m guessing you don’t work in sales mate. It’s called raising someone’s impulse you present someone with a problem and provide a solution. Hence being them donating. A good salesperson can read there buying/non buying signs and tell if they’re interested or not and will only spend time with the people they think are interested.

My Wife watches these family videos. Every few weeks a tragic event happens to them. I haft to wonder how many people offer them money. One site is watching had a husband with a rare disease and his sexy sad wife is telly the the story with her boobs nearly falling out of her shirt. I feel you. I'm experiencing something similar. I am also a writer and definitely know the value of a compelling story especially when it's truth. I think I've done well with my campaign considering all things like the amount I've raised so far and the time it has taken to raise it as well as the donation amounts people have given. so, understand that I am grateful for this. The thing that is throwing me is the fact that almost all of the people who have donated are people who aren't even related to me or know me well. I guess it just hurts a little that my extended relatives even though they know about the fund raiser have just ignored it.
I guess I should say that I am totally blind and the fund raiser is to get the funds I need to purchase some adaptive equipment that would give me back some control in my life by helping me to do some of the daily tasks I used to do when I had vision. My family knows this, but it doesn't seem to move them in anyway.
Someone told me that perhaps personal appeals to each individual would make a difference. maybe so and I will try that since I'm only about 1/3 to my ultimate goal. Maybe I'm feeling some kind of way about doing this because it means humbling myself and opening myself up to criticism. I don't know. but the equipment (glasses loaded with software and some incredible functions) would be a game changer for me, so I'm going to get in that humbling place and ask each of my extended relatives for help. Do you think this would work for you as well?
Also, how is your kitty doing? I have a cat and he was sick about two years ago. Nothing as serious as what's going on with yours, but it terrified me all the same. I fully understand and two years ago I came off of the streets and went to rehab on mother's day as a gift to my mom and grandma I've become clean and slowly progressing towards success in other parts of life but grandma had a stroke and was given six months to live she was/is were I am living so in order for her to come home I'd have to retrofit her old house to accommodate a wheelchair and other safety precautions along with other better care options for her but asking anyone for money is never been my strong suit along with my past and the way I'm perceived even my family wouldn't want to help me do that forget giving money that's not even a thought but they are voting for nursing homes Wich Gramma asked me not to do she wants to be home so for now she is trusting her money bills credit cards in my possession Wich family is not happy with so I'm brainstorming a way to help her get home in two three months I have 90 days to make it happen the main things are her septic system ramp hand rails heating possibly hospital style bed and van to be able to transport her for appointments whatnot so even though Hispanic families are fairly large I'm the last person they would trust not because I've done anything to them but because they've always treated me as a black sheep but I'm still going to try and asking for donations is hard for me but ill try and I have no social media presence so go fund me isn't going anywhere so I'm thinking first a yard sale? Then possibly selling shirts with her dogs picture her name and reason for the fundraiser Wich I'm blessed my brother has a small business printing tshirts so I could get them at cost so it will have to be pre order with donations I'm thinking I have no idea if it will work or if I will fail but I have to try if Gramma ends up dying in a home ill hate myself forever as she let me in her home from the streets let me use her car and everyone didn't like it but I got clean and I owe it to her to do all I can to make her wish a reality the point of my story is if you have suggestions or ideas of how else I could help her maybe someones ideas are what I need I know that it doesn't help you but you should rest assured that you did try and did care enough to fail as most won't try to do the harder thing but if you still have your cat and she still needs help I know that they have credit cards solely for animals and medical bills as Gramma got one for her pitbull five years ago when she almost died of parvo they are not the best option but it may allow her the treatment and then you could have more time with her and time to fundraise to pay off card it's not optimal idea but it's an idea if I can find it ill get the name for u but it was at the pet hospital that we got it also most pet hospitals have money that is reserved for cases like you from donating that has to be used annually so calling around different hospitals could help as well I'm sorry I don't have a winning idea or lots of money if I was rich or even just anything else but poor I'd give my money to pet owners everywere
Hmm personally I wouldn't donate for a therapy for a cat too because to me it feels like you just want to "manipulate" me. Also a cat is some kind of luxury.
I'm more the type of rational donator, who gives money to those who helped me a lot and who deserve it because they gave me added value.
Sure, if I have a personal relationship with you, then I would probably donate money for the therapy. But it's also hard to know if you really need the money for the therapy or if it's just a cash grab.
Hmmmm I don't think I will ever ask for a donation again. Few months ago my mummy was going to be operated on, she's suffering from Rhuematiod atharatis. I went on one of the sites to ask for donation since I had no such money. 500$. But I got a lesson up-to-date I can still hear those hurting words vibrating in my Ears. Someone pretended to help me just to end up abusing me. He told me that we black monkeys we love free money, that we should work hard as if that wasn't enough for him, he told me that I should just buy poison and we take it because it's not expensive. It's now 8 months but those words still sounds fresh like the day was yesterday 😭😭😭😭😭. My only option was to get a loan of which am struggling to pay now. This world has tough and harsh people. But we are people like whites we have the same red blood not monkeys as some not all whites refers to. God bless you.

I do hope you made it with your Mom and she is better and ableto cope with the rhematiod arthritis. Also just thinking of how this ties into movies, if the distressing conflict is resolved by a certain character, you could probably make the audience like that character and the ideals they represent more and see whatever they've done as the solution to similar distresses in day-to-day life. I'm sure certain groups already abuse this.

Bit of a tangent but this whole video is... obvious when you think about it but seeing it laid out so cleanly just feels a bit sick tbh! Us humans are a real hive mind... Take on others's stuff and feel it as our own and act... Being in a crowd, there's also a thing where showing a reaction makes the person watching "relay" the same reaction and the emotional expressions spread, even if you can't see the first person who reacted, you react on someone else's reactions (subtly) and it goes around... So maybe also watch out for the emotions being displayed in a story in that regard, with the idea that the person watching may be copying or relaying emotions of the characters based on that kind of crowd effect...
I don't like donating money, because once they get money the change everything you once like to a platform you really can't go to anymore. I say if I like a platform I don't donate and once they do well tough luck. It's better when the platform has few people on it.

If they choose to help you, gratefully accept their donation, thank them etc and just bigger off.Don't try to grab more. If they refuse, just say "That's OK, have a good day ". And same applies ie you just bigger off. Charity seekers are now a serious form of privacy invasion, obstruction and harassment on digital devices, in the mail, in public places etc.Some tough new laws need to be passed and enforced, to control their activities and how, when ,why etc they carry them out. With heavy fines for breaches. I am sick of not being able to get into the entrance of my local grocery stores etc without being approached and heckled by charity collectors to give. I explain that I cannot, as I am a poor pensioner and the sort of typical answer they insult you with is "Well, how come you are out shopping if you have no money to give?" I mean, here I am trying to figure out if I can last one fortnight longer living on just a $1'bag of rolled oats, so I can pay my enormous electricity bill for power I never got to even use to stay warm, cook etc.And some foreign or millennial fucker is telling me I should not be spending my only dollar on basic food for my own survival but giving it to them, so they can live in style. I’m guessing you don’t work in sales mate. It’s called raising someone’s impulse you present someone with a problem and provide a solution. Hence being them donating. A good salesperson can read there buying/non buying signs and tell if they’re interested or not and will only spend time with the people they think are interested.

My Wife watches these family videos. Every few weeks a tragic event happens to them. I haft to wonder how many people offer them money. One site is watching had a husband with a rare disease and his sexy sad wife is telly the the story with her boobs nearly falling out of her shirt.
