I used to be a big stove collector 😂❤my friends would say what is so exciting to you about bloody old stoves ? It’s about family time and it’s a meeting place🎉
I've never used a wood cook stove or waffle iron for the stove, I hope to one day, but in waffle houses that have a turning waffle iron or at hotels that have them for continental breakfast use, you usually flip the pan as soon as you put the lid down. That helps the batter to fill in all the holes and cracks while the batter is still spreadable. Don't know if that will make a difference for you or not. They look great though and I would love have a stove one day 😊
Aww, Elvis appreciates the new warm bed! You are so loving and thoughtful of your critters. And it is a great reflection on you that your children are so polite and helpful!
I have the same stove made by Elmira Stove Works. My model is black enamel and has the water reservoir on the right side. I bought it new in the 1970 ‘s and used it until 2000; when I moved to Virginia and have had it in storage ever since. It’s so good to see you using this treasure.
For keeping the waffle iron with plenty of butter - try’s small pan right next to the iron and melt butter. The residual heat will probably not burn the butter. But you can pull it away if it does. Then get a pastry brush and it makes for a super quick turn over. I love you videos!!!!!
I was talking to my husband about why I love your channel so much. We came up with the reason, it’s like I’m going over to my best friends house and she’s making food while making us feel like we’re family. Your channel is my favorite! I always get excited to see your new videos! ❤
Hi I steam canned the slaw yesterday. Used fresh cabbage out of the raised beds out in front of the house. First time using the steam canner. I am 69 and have learned so much from you younger ladies. I have a Home Comfort cook stove that I can use in the winter.
What a neat waffle maker. I've never seen one for a wood stove and such fun using it too. The waffles turned out great and looked to good. What a wonderful warm cat bed just for Elvis and he looks so cozy in it too.
There is just something wonderful about vintage items, it has been some 30 years since I've cooked on a wood stove and remember how differently tortillas tasted. You said the right word "FUN", it is just the way I feel when I sit in front of a vintage sewing machine; FUN. Gracias for sharing, It looks like your family takes pleasure at what you do. Bless you.
The waffles looked fantastic! So thoughtful of you to make a nice cat bed for Elvis. It is so nice for outdoor pets/animals to have a nice warm place to stay during the winter. Loved hearing Elvis purr. =^..^= The sunrise was beautiful.
I grew up on a ranch with a wood fired stove, and my grandmother had a waffle iron very like yours. You will have better results if you either use a brush to apply the fat to both sides of the iron, OR apply with a fork to the bottom side as you were doing, THEN flip it before adding the batter. This does two things - it lets the fat you applied to one side drip down to the other side, AND it gives both sides of the iron a chance to heat before the batter is applied. Good stuff!
You reminded me how much I loved cooking on a wood stove. I lived in the Sierras for a while and even food that I didn't like tasted good. I think it is the smoke that gives food that special flavor. After a while, I learned to regulate the heat well enough that I could bake breads.Unfortunately, I did not have a waffle maker at the time, but later my brother who worked for Publice Works found one like yours at, of all places, the municipal dump. That was the job that was assigned first to all new employees. He actually liked working there because he found all kinds of interesting things.
That sunrise is glorious, thanks for sharing your video today Chelsea, I loved it. Loved seeing those waffles cooked on the wood stove and certainly loved watching Elvis settle into his winter quarters lol xx
That was a beautiful sunrise for sure. And oh my gosh you are on fire with new subscribers climbing I had tears seeing the number tonight. This is so wonderful but I knew it was going to happen. You well deserve it. That is wonderful the waffle pan still in existence all these years. The way things should be. Last and last like things used to. We can not look forward to Teflon pans and plastic bowls being antiques :( That little thank u voice when getting her waffle 💖💖. They looked decadent. All of them I am sure were perfect. A good mouser protecting his family and farm animals from critters deserves a cozy house for sure. Thank you both for not being afraid to show kindness in so many ways. hugs
We have a wear-ever waffle maker it was my great great grandparents. My great great grandfather made them. And we still us it every year when we go camping, on our Coleman stove we make waffles. It’s one of my favorite traditions.
That is amazing. The waffle iron is fantastic. The ingenuity in making that almost 100 years ago. Perfect way to flip them. The heated cat house is adorable. My indoor cats are so spoiled they have heated beds in the house.
I use to start prepping at 4 am. Fun for sure! When the kids woke up they had a full breakfast great bacon smell through out the house got the kids out of bed a little earlier than usual.... then back to cooking around noon on a cold NE winter day, a turkey in the oven and all the fixings. Tasting better? I think it is all in our heads just like I think the heat from my wood stove is a better heat for the home. I believe it is because we are reaping our efforts. I have also ruined some meals too.
so cool..my hubby made a cat house for the winter strays during the real cold times..we dont feed them..but we try to keep them warm with a heat light and shelter
Your family is so fortunate that you put in so much investment in feeding them so well. I am a cat lover and was worried about Elvis in the cold but you have it covered of course!!
Omg !. Love your cook stove! 😍 i have always wanted to learn how to cook on one!! Yes ! The flavor is different than cooking on a modern range. I think it’s because of the cast iron and the wood fire. I make homemade waffles with bananas too, and it is amazing! If I ever get a cook stove , one day, I will remember you’re a techniques. ❤
Yep, I still have a wood stove waffle iron. I can't remember where I found one, but I've been saving it for that "someday", when I would have a wood stove to use it. Hopefully next year,(but in Trudeau's Canada I'm not holding my breath). The last time I had waffles cooked like this was back when I was a teen between '77 to '82. I wish my step mom could remember how she made her white waffle sauce that she made on the wood stove to pour over the waffles. Boy does all this bring back memories. Even your large jars of milk remind me of the ones we stored on the steps under the trap door to the dug out root cellar with limestone walls. Our milk cow was named Molly.
I wish my Mom (born 1916) was here watching your enjoyment of cooking on the woodstove. It would bring back many memories, enjoyment would not be on her list. The woodstove was it, cooking, heat for the house, hot water. There would have been the bacon grease pot next to the stove, the waffle iron would have been greased with that fat. There would have been an iron to be used on clothes on the stove as well. Mom was one of 11 children. The girls job was to help in the house. The all worked very hard. The boys worked the farm, never in the kitchen. I was 13 before my Mom finally had an electric stove. It was one of the happiest days of her life.
I call the first couple of pancakes or waffles "the funky ones" because I think it takes whatever pan you are cooking in to get to the right temperature. I think you did an awesome job making waffles.
I agree my Mom use to let her waffle maker heat for ten min while she made her batter…..oh I made a batch of waffles with chopped bacon in them and with hot maple syrup they were so good….
Aww Elvis has an awesome bed! Thanks for caring and loving the furkids! 👍🏻 You had me drooling over waffles. Omg they looked so delicious! Carmel and Bananas was a great topping for sure! You and Martha did a great job! Thanks!! Cheers!
Perfectly shaped waffles are an admirable quality of mass-produced factory waffles. Exquisite taste is a superb quality of homemade waffles. I know which I ALWAYS prefer !!!
I love cooking with cast iron. I found an old corn bread pan (the one divided into triangles) at a yard sale. I've never made cornbread in it. I get it really hot on the stove grease it with lard. Make a batch of biscuit dough, shape it into a round shape to fit the pan. Set the dough on top of the hot pan, push it down just a bit. Throw it in the oven and bake as usual. Less handling of the dough makes them soft and fluffy and they start rising fast because the pan is already hot. :)
another wonderful video, enjoyed it so much! I love what you & your husband are doing on the farm. GREAT opportunity for your children, good foundation🥰💯💜
I'm not a cook but I watched my Mother use our electric one back in the 40's/50 & her batter was thinner. I'm 90 years old & remember those times every day. Our country was so much kinder than today. P.S. Take a small pan with a stick of butter & put it on the stove, melt the butter then brush it on both sides.
Yes your batter looks al little thick, I think it should be a little thicker than cake batter. And if you open it too soon, you can end up with the waffle splitting in the middle, with it being stuck on the top and bottom. Look at it edgewise when you are cooking them, when you no longer see steam, your waffle should be done or almost done. I like using a better quality hand activated spray bottle to spray oil on my iron or use oil and an pastry brush to grease up the iron well.
Omgoodness Elvis is a very lucky cat to have such caring people like you and Dan. That is a awesome place for him. I used to have a waffle iron similar to that one but when I moved I left it with the cookstove. Now I need to start looking for another one so when we get our cookstove I can use one again. Keep warm and thanks for sharing, 🌷🇨🇦
@@LittleMountainRanch the one we have now is a very old McClary Leroy it’s not in our house but in our cabin across the road. But once we move over there I think we are going to buy a brand new JA Roby through home hardware. Their burn time is 3 to5 hours. Have you ever looked at Lehmans website. They are in the states but have cool things geared for off grid or simple living. They have waffle irons for cookstoves. My Leroy is not in as good shape as your stove. But it works when we get extended power outages.
Isn’t Mother Nature clever, the sun rise was stunningly beautiful. I love your wood stove and oh my goodness those waffles look scrumptious. Thank you for sharing.
That molten orange mountain sunrise was spectacular. Thank you a BUNCH! BTW, your excitement about the waffles is very infectious ...as I was excited right along with you! I agree 100% that ya need THINNER waffle batter. I loved watching all your explanations, as it all made good sense to me.
Good evening Chelsea. It was so good to see you making waffles! I found that information in a book somewhere and will have to see if I can find it. The smoke makes the difference in the taste, especially pies and baked beans. You were fortunate to get that waffle iron included. I paid over $100.00 for my Griswold and that was on sale! You are doing fine with the iron. It needs to be seasoned really well on both sides. I beat in egg whites in the batter sometimes. You can use that iron on a gas stove too. Enjoy! ~ Diane
I love your use of honey in so many of your recipes. I have to try doing that more often. That caramel sauce looked soooo good! That waffle maker is made even more special by its history. So cool!
Love a video where one makes a kitty happy!! The waffles were cool too. I've never liked waffles or pancakes for breakfast...I know, I'm a freak of nature, but even donuts I don't care for. But it was a delight watching that waffle maker in action! I find a super sweet breakfast just doesn't agree... and bread type stuff breaks down into sugar in the body, so that's likely why my personal system doesn't care for it. My favorite breakfast hot: was maypo- they don't make it anymore. And cold: grapenuts. But a slice of cinnamon toast and coffee will keep me more than happy. My family did breakfast for dinner often and I do like eggs and toast and hash browns for dinner!! My kids loved pancakes... never have seen honey Carmel before that was awesome!! Loved my trip to little mountain ranch again... thank you so much! Smiles and blessings...
I learned to cook on a wood cook stove many years ago. I miss it. You’re right the food was so much better and that’s the reason women war big aprons was always have something they could grab a hold of a skillet with
Your wood stove’s exceptionally high quality and beauty actually comes thru on the videos, it is no wonder you named it. It harkens back to an era I wish I had been born in.
Awesome how great your waffles turned out. Elvis looks happy with his new heated cat house. No snow yet here in NY. I can't wait to garden next year already.
Growing up we had a small wood cook stove (could hold 2 pots) which we used when the power went out since in our area when we lost power in the winter time it was out for days or weeks. The neighbors would come over to use it at those times also. Never did understand why they didn't get one of their own. Our grandparents lived across the field from us and grandma never wanted an electric stove after they could afford it. She had a good size one that included 2 ovens. She made the best lemon meringue pie every thanksgiving. I have many memories of the corner she would set me in with magazines and catalogues that I could cut things out of while she was cooking. My favorite being the McCalls magazine that had a page of paper dolls each month. Many happy memories that included that ever so toasty stove in the winter. Many happy
Such fond memories of your granny! I spent every weekend with my granny and grandad growing up, she only lived over the road. How I wish my children could have met her, she was a real lady
I have an old Columbia Cookstove from the early 1900's and we make waffles at Christmas for our adult children and they love them. I know where the term of "Slaving over a hot stove" comes from, when your over top of it....
I adore your stove. I love the waffle iron too, I have one as well, I think I’d better get it out of the camp trailer and start using it in the house..❤
Elvis loves it! You could even make a little wooden box to cover the plastic house. Perhaps that would even insulate the heat even better. And great looking waffles!
I have refurbished a few old stoves from the turn of the century. One thing that needs to be stated is when refurbishing an old cooking or any cast iron stove is to make sure the gaskets that hold the parts together are good and the stove is sealed well. Another point I like to make is if the wood stove or stoves doesn’t have “ Underwriters Laboratory” plate on it and you have a house fire unfortunately the insurance company will dent the claim. I try to stress this to all old stove buyers and users. Thanks for the video
I don't have a barn, but I have shed kitties. I put a heavy piece of wood on top of the house -which is a large styrofoam cooler - to keep them from knocking it around. Tonight is our first night down to about 30 degrees fahrenheit and they are tucked in already. Those waffles look like fancy restaurant waffles to me too. Thanks for showing us!
It was such a fun video to watch! Making waffles is always a challenge for me, even on a modern waffle maker.seeing you make them on a cook stove encourages me to try again. I love the cute cat house for Elvis, and how sweet you are to your animals and your family. Always a joy to watch your videos.
Great job. Recommend you try using clarified butter or peanut oil on the iron. While preheating turn the iron frequently in order to have a consistent temperature. If you use peanut oil you’ll find that you won’t have to oil the iron every time you bake your waffle. And if you put a couple of baking racks on the stove top and put your waffles on them as pull them off the iron they’ll maintain their crispness Have fun. I’ve cooked thousands of waffles on my Griswald iron
I used to be a big stove collector 😂❤my friends would say what is so exciting to you about bloody old stoves ? It’s about family time and it’s a meeting place🎉
The sunrise was beautiful! You were so blessed to see God’s wonderful sunrise like that!
I've never used a wood cook stove or waffle iron for the stove, I hope to one day, but in waffle houses that have a turning waffle iron or at hotels that have them for continental breakfast use, you usually flip the pan as soon as you put the lid down. I bought it new in the 1970 ‘s and used it until 2000; when I moved to Virginia and have had it in storage ever since. It’s so good to see you using this treasure.
I hope you can resurrect it and use it again…. I just have a simple Baker’s Choice as I was on a strict budget when I purchased my wood cook stove.

Awe, that made my day, thank you, friend.

I so agree with your comment! That’s exactly how I feel, welcomed.

I agree on all points!! Awesome!!
Why are wood stoves and old things including cabins with a fireplace so calming? I immediately begin to relax when I see them.
Such a beautiful and blessed family🙏🌺
Lovely Sunrise to start the day. Enjoyed the video.
I grew up on a ranch with a wood fired stove, and my grandmother had a waffle iron very like yours. Kitty in his house was precious. They made things to last back in the 30’s, so waffle iron will most likely last for a few hundred years! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Albus is amazing!
Enjoyed the video
Amazing video. Agree about the waffle iron. Lights up the imagination.
Beautiful ❤️ 😍 sunrise, waffle look amazingly good

I'am not into waffles, nor a waffle whiffer Pan Cakes? Hell yes I love your wood cook stove. YOU SO LUCKY
There are nice people in the world it seems. Thank you.
Beautiful!!
Love watching your awesome life!!!
I had a wood stove when I was in my early 20’s in Nova Scotia. I have been dreaming of getting another ever since. At 60 I think it might be time
Delicious breakfast! What a treat!
Hi, the waffles looks amazing and the caramel sauce delicious. Ohh it is so sweet, the 🐈 looks very happy with his warmth place 😊

Enjoyed your waffle experiment on the old Iron,....brought back memories ❤️
Thank you for that incredible view. I stopped breathing for it.
I love the process and flavor of cooking on a wood-fired stove. Glad you noticed you were not buttering the top of the waffle iron.
another wonderful video, enjoyed it so much! I love what you & your husband are doing on the farm. GREAT opportunity for your children, good foundation🥰💯💜
I did not recognize you with your hat! And I remembered that your pantry rocked my world! And that waffle iron is off the charts!!!
This was so much fun👏👏 waffle 🧇😻 kitty house an a little peek-a-boo a long the way..have a beautiful day my friend's ❤️

I live in Florida so I don't have the snow and mountains, but the sunrise is the same so beautiful. My favorite time of day.
Beautiful in design, brings warmth to the house , cooks like a dream and works almost 24/7, what’s not to like 👍🏻
Your wood stove’s exceptionally high quality and beauty actually comes thru on the videos, it is no wonder you named it. It harkens back to an era I wish I had been born in.
Love the stove and waffles. Great video.
The cat house was great.
Awesome how great your waffles turned out. Elvis looks happy with his new heated cat house. No snow yet here in NY. I can't wait to garden next year already.
Amazing!
Love your cook stove and the wafler looked delicious with the Carmel sauce. Know your cat will enjoy their warm bed. Thank you for sharing. Stay warm.
Beautiful, I miss my beautiful sunrises and sunsets.😊
I have always folded in beaten stiff egg whites to my waffles. Nice and fluffy.
I adore your stove. I love the waffle iron too, I have one as well, I think I’d better get it out of the camp trailer and start using it in the house..❤
You’ve motivated me to clean and restock my spices. It needs it soo badly. The waffles looked yummy! Be well and stay safe, Doc❤
Happy kids; happy cat, life is good.
Cool !! Many Thanks !!
Beautiful
Aww kitty is so happy, made my night 😊❤
Great job. Recommend you try using clarified butter or peanut oil on the iron. While preheating turn the iron frequently in order to have a consistent temperature.
If you use peanut oil you’ll find that you won’t have to oil the iron every time you bake your waffle.
And if you put a couple of baking racks on the stove top and put your waffles on them as pull them off the iron they’ll maintain their crispness
Have fun. I’ve cooked thousands of waffles on my Griswald iron
All such great tips, thank you!
