Orpheus had another Orpheus come out of him and rip a fucking shadow in half with its bare hands. I haven't completed Persona 3 yet, but I think Orpheus ripping that shadow apart is much cooler than what we saw from Arsene here. His design is definitely much cooler though.

I wonder what it feels like when they first Awaken to their Personas. They basically get auditory hallucinations, extreme migraines, and agonizing chest pain? That definitely doesn't feel good.
Only few can be as badass as having your inner demon sneer and laugh at the rotten society you live in as whole and engulf you in the flames of rebellion while he swats your enemies like flies.
if a Persona is someone's other side or true self, then a part of Joker might actually laugh at his sitvasation after awakning to that new power as he now knows he can fly out of the hole he was thrown into, and the world have given him a justified reason to unleash his cruel side
(Long-ass comment incoming, but I wanted to share my thoughts on this.) The mask is extremely significant in this game. Individuals awaken their Persona when they literally tear off the mask on their face; a "happy" mask, one that makes people think you're okay with everything that's happened - and is happening - to you, as you pretend you don't really care, you don't let it get to you. I feel like this is further supported by the lyrics of Beneath the Mask, in particular this bit: "I'm a shapeshifter, what else should I be? Please don't take off my mask, revealing dark." The singer is always changing themselves to be whatever the people around them want them to be, because they don't know what else they should act like since we live in a society where expressing unhappiness and discomfort with your current situation is frowned upon, and you're expected to look happy and carefree 100% of the time. Which is why the singer doesn't want anyone to take off their mask, because it hides their actual, dark feelings, and they know they're not "supposed" to let those out. So they hide behind a facade and shut people off, they don't want to bare their soul to anyone because they know they'll be mocked, reprimanded and shunned. Tearing off that mask symbolizes the moment you stop pretending. It's when you admit that actually, you're not okay with any of it, you're really fucking angry and unhappy, in fact. Taking off the mask - admitting you're not okay with how life has been treating you - is difficult and painful, and you'll bleed when your true feelings are exposed to the world. But you'll be stronger after you do it, and will be able to control your emotions better, and deal with them better, once you stop bottling them up. To me, the fact that their eyes always light up yellow when they awaken their Persona, like a shadow's, symbolizes that they've acknowledged their dark side, but instead of letting it take over them like the people they're fighting did, they gained control of it and used it to their advantage, and projected that dark side outwards, towards people who deserved their wrath. They didn't let their negative emotions and thoughts, and the bad shit they've been through, turn them into terrible people. They learned to live with their demons. This is something that people like Kamoshida failed to understand and accomplish, and why they were defeated. They let *their* anger consume them, and became monsters because of it. At least, that's my interpretation.

Can't believe it took me this long, but I just realized some additional significance to Arsene's line "... though thou be chained to Hell itself!" beyond just being badass. In the final battle Joker breaks the chains connecting him to Arsene to summon Satanael, a demon lord. So that line is hinting at the form of his evolved Persona.

I always felt like this line should have been recognized as a VERY important part of Joker's character. Joker is willing to do anything that is necessary to achieve what he sees as true justice, even if it means his methods would be seen as questionable or blasphemous. I could be wrong, but because the things that Arsene said, I feel like Joker realizes he isn't really some hero of true justice, nor are the phantom thieves really justice itself. He fully understands that should he walk down the path he was willing to walk, he would be destined to be forever banished from Heaven and be forced to rest for all of eternity in Hell.

The general gist is that religion is the true embodiment of control over the "ignorant masses". To truly be free of all forms of control, he must not only rebel against society and law (being a criminal and instigator of social reform) but also a rebel against religion as well. This can be seen in the parallels between yaldabaoth and his angels and Christian beliefs and depictions. Rebellion against religion in this game is so prevalent that not only do you shoot god in the face, but you also end up using satan in the flesh as your "other self". The themes in this game are great and I just love how something that can be perceived as insignificant make the game 10x more nuanced and rich with character.

Corey Rich Persona 5 is amazing and the games have no big correlation storyline wise. However Persona 5 The Royal was just announced today which is like an expanded version of Persona 5, however the global English release won’t be here until 2020 and it will most likely cost 60-70 dollars. So, currently I would but Persona 5 for 20 dollars instead. Then you can play it, wait 1 year and see how the entire storyline changes in “The Royal”

Bruh i literally was laughing my ass off on how useless arsene is i've used kaguya and izanagi and shiki oji the whole game i was doubting his skills he had nothing special. But then i got to see the ending man oh man there wasn't a time where id swallow what i said 100x over.

Bruh i literally was laughing my ass off on how useless arsene is i've used kaguya and izanagi and shiki oji the whole game i was doubting his skills he had nothing special. But then i got to see the ending man oh man there wasn't a time where id swallow what i said 100x over.
