  • Phil got a new '94 Chevy Blazer! And one of the first things you should do after buying an old, used, car, is a compression test! So that's what we do, using a solid compression tester from Harbor Freight.

I notice Ur results with the corners higher than the insides. Mine (93 TBI 200,000mi; (160° thermostat, 185° Summer,AC, Pulling 4500lbs up a 4mi 7%)max temp seen) is fine in the corners 1,2,7,8 as it is on UR's, however, mine is low on the middles (3,5,4,6) - 20-50lbs. It is has crankcase pressure pumping oil thru the PCV in2 the TBI. Yes, I know, probably rings. Y only the middle cylinders R lower than the corners? Another thing, this was a 4-6 mo occurrence (100mi 50mph /week) Strange it starts and idles fine and smooth as always but No power and lots of oil smoke out exhaust...go figure. It ran great prior. Chronic TBI thing?

I have the same vehicle, it’s a Frankenstein from Craigslist. It overheats quickly, and I have done all the basics, so now I’m on to the pressure test. What can I expect to see if it is a bad head gasket?

Thanks for the vid.. I have a 1972-ish sbc 350 in my 1969 chevy truck that has 90psi on cylinder 1 & 3, but the rest are 100-137 psi. It ran when I put it in and was running when it back fired and stopped running. I changed the timing chain. I have spark and fuel, but still won't run. Would those 2 cylinders stop it from running? Shouldn't it still at least fire on the other cylinders?

Yeah 90 psi still isn't "there's a hole in the block" low, so even then I would think the cylinders should still be firing at the very least. My guess is the problem is elsewhere

Ck mechanical and electrical timing. How did U align the Crank/Cam timing? It can run 180° out as can if the distributor is 180° off... But not well. CK distributor play. Ck point contacts, gap and capacitor. Ck 4 shorting crossed wires. CK 4 flooding of fuel. Ck exhaust restrictions.

Description says "new". 200,000mi is new? Damn, I guess mine is new also.
