I normally don't comment on things like this but I have a regular neck Zojirushi that I got as a present and I was like why did my brother give me this? But I started using it and I find it AMAZING. I can keep ice water cold in it for literally 3 days. I have it next to my bed if I get dehydrated at night. It works so well its almost magical. I use it every day, even bring it in the far infrared sauna with me to keep water cool so I can stay in for 60 mins at 140f.
Quick question. Why preheat the flask if you have to let it cool off with the lid open initially because it's too hot? Why not save two lots of time and a bit of energy by letting the unwanted heat from the coffee heat the flask?
I am a big fan of these Zojirushi mugs. He is right about how long it keeps the heat! Like he said, it WILL keep your hot coffee warm throughout a good amount of the day. I usually leave it top open like he does, or if I'm in a rush, I add an ice cube or two. HIGHLY recommend!
I purchased one of these after watching this review. This is my first ZojiRushi but i do want to say this product is amazing! I can drink hot coffee ALL day at work, and never have to worry about getting my second dose of coffee because my current one is cold 'n' nasty. I'm so happy! Thanks for the suggestion TESTED!
I love Japanese thermal jugs, mugs, and whatnot! I personally use a Tiger thermal jug. The capacity is small maybe about 1 or 1.5 litre, but it keeps my drink warm for so many hours too.
I have two of these and they are thee best I've ever used! I have a 16 and 20 oz. models, but prefer the latter, as it holds more and has more room for milk or cream, when drinking coffee. If you ad ice, then it's also nice having the larger one...it's a matter of personal choice. These mugs WILL keep hot beverages hot for hours on end and the same with cold ones. I recently put ice and water in the 16 oz. mig for a road trip, left it in the car (cool climate in the 50s) for a few days and when I opened it up, there was still a trace of ice left! So, that should tell you how well these perform. As for those who say putting in hot coffee and wanting to drink it shortly afterward, it will be too hot to drink...of course! This is designed to keep hot, hot and cold, cold! As for me, I always add cream or milk to my coffee, so it's drinkable right away, but when in this mug, it'll say a nice warm/hot temperature to my liking. As another reviewer said below, he uses this for cool beverages by his bedside. It's perfect for that, as the cap locks to prevent spills and you'll have a nice cool beverage or water all night long. The mouths of these are only 1.5", so it does take a bit of patience getting ice cubes in, but well worth the effort.
Thermos makes one quite similar. It can't get any better than a vacuum bottle, however the threaded part at the top is where most of the heat leaks out. It may stay warm all day, but it doesn't hold enough coffee to last you all day. I quite enjoyed having it along when I was hiking in the winter.
Can anyone explain to me why you would preheat the bottle only to leave it open for another 30 minutes after pouring your coffee into it only to not burn off your lips? You would think just pouring the cofee into the cold flask would kill two birds with one stone? Or am I missing something?
+CSH3 If you pour a hot beverage directly into the travel mug without preheating it, the inner-lining will absorb that heat, thus lowering the temperature of said hot beverage. Preheating helps mitigate any temperature loss.
knifeforkandaspoon But he does say that he leaves the mug open for 30 minutes after pouring in the coffee because otherwise the coffee would be too hot to drink, so the temperature loss would be a good thing for him right?
Guess what i got in the post this morning .. the 600ml one. A good travel mug are few and far between, and if you don't use one i wont be surprised if you are scoffing and saying why the hell should i care. For the rest of us that do know the pain of spilled and leaky mugs or off tasting steel or smelly plastics, you'll know how good it feels to have a decent mug. Im looking forward to using this one :D
I got the 20 ounce version, my wife has the older 16 ounce stainless version. I was happy to find out that the tops are interchangeable, so I just swapped them over. So I have the older larger top on the newer body. While my wife likes the smaller newer top better. WIN WIN!
Yeah baby!!! I bought a one liter carafe from this brand and they will last HOT for at least 24 hours!!! The Best part is that I bought it at a Thrift store for 2dollars!!! When I saw the brand was Japanese I bought it immediately. Then Google it and found it was a Quality product. It was brand new still in the box. I bought a Hario and a Bean Envy goose neck kettle for 5dollars each on others occasions. It's a local Catholic church Thrift shop. Japanese still have high quality manufacturing products. 😁
I bought the 20 oz one a few months ago and using it right now, it can keep iced coffee cold for 10+ hours easily. (If it ever last that long) Now if only it had a built in Replicator so I could just keep it full of my coffee at all times. :)
Seems like a decent thermal, i'm not 100% sure if i like the lock on it, since that seems like overcomplicating something that can easily break. I have a Klean Kanteen and i use the wide-mouth screw top kind which i like, and seals perfect. You can buy a coffee type top for sipping but i find the screw top more convenient (and no leaks).
Thanks for this! I always am looking at your guy's stuff on set and search for hours to try and screen match the stuff your using. Again thanks for this.
For everyone that was wondering. As far as I can find preheating your coffee cup is just to keep the coffee warmer longer. I found a few mentions of being able to taste a difference with espresso, but couldn't find a post about coffee tasting different.
It's a fantastic travel mug. Only minor knock against it is that it rattles in my car cup holder due to its slim profile. Despite this, I highly recommend it if you're looking for a secure, sleek, and temperature-stable travel mug.
I had 3 Zojirushi. The mechanism eventually get too stained and too dirty to use. The push button to open is nice and all, but totally a pain in the ass to clean. You cannot disassemble it, so if you let mold grow . . . Enjoy your moldy drinks. I wouldn't recommend Zojirushi at all. KISS principle apply. Just get a thermal mug that is twist open and you will be glad it is so simple to clean.
I have to put 3 ice cubes in my 20oz, it's still quite warm in the afternoon. I also put 3 ice cubes in my 16oz (old style) to have coffee at a drinkable temp right away. Great mugs, pricey, but great!
You don't have to pour coffee through the plastic cap, you can take it off and pour coffee. Also you don't have to pre heat and then leave open for 20 min for coffee to cool down.
I am a huge coffee drinker. Drink it all day. I'm a sipper though. A cup that will keep my coffee hot is perfect. Especially at work. I cup last me all day at work. A few sips on break and some at lunch. I see myself saving $ on not throwing out so much coffee because it got cold between sips.
@C nah it wasn't. Yard sale. Fund raiser for an animal shelter. Everything was donated. I didn't even know what I was buying. Not something on my shopping list, ever. Didn't want to leave without buying something. So I bought it, totally clueless. Just another coffee cup to me. Till I used it of course. Still have it. Black paint all gone. As of latele, been using electrical tape to keep lid down. Still keeps coffe hot. Sure would love another. Do not expect to another for $5. But maybe on 1 of my thrifting days ehich I do alot of. Most everything I own is 2nd hand.
Dude, this thing is so crazy. It retains heat so well I have to CHILL my drinks slightly to make it bearable and not burn my tongue throughout the day 😂
I have a thermos mug that I have had for years, it has a heavy stainless steel lid that disperses hot fluid so I can drink boiling things. Will this mug do the same thing?

i just got one yesterday, and i sincerely think the tip at 1:24 is gonna save my life. thank you!

I really have to get my hands on something Zojirushi. A bottle or a bento box thing for lunch. They seem to make amazing products!
Fantastic right to the point no BS, keep doing what you are doing.

thermoses have a delicate lining, if your throwing 100C coffee into a cold mug it might break
I know glass ones have this problem but idk about these

you should try a Swell bottle, ive had mine for years and i would say its better than my Zojirushi 24oz mug
Wow something that's actually reasonably priced for once. I might actually buy this.
You should the best travel mug that I have owned.
What about the ease of washing of the lid? How difficult is it to scrub milky residue in the lid? :/
Great freaking review man got your self a subscriber !!
Note that they have a non-coated one now that has an electropolished interior - so probably no stainless taste. They named it slick steel.
That plastic can eventually wear off. You want a Titanium thermos, never holds odors or transfers any taste.
Is it plastic where you drink from? And the top?
Good video, im personally pro-alloy taste.
I hate coke out of a bottle but love it out of a can, same with my coffee

+kumaclimber Jamie is a bit of a no personality kind of guy, he works as the straight man but he's kind of dead pan. So not great to carry an episode by himself.
+Scott Mac I just want to hear him talk bikes.
"Black Edition"? It's a black coloured flask.
Is it just me, or does Will wear that t-shirt all the time?
Who else actually preheats their thermal mug?
