DIY Epoxy Resin Tumbler Turner for Only $20

- DIY Tumbler Turner for less than $20. Quick and easy to make for someone who does not have a lot of tools or workshop.
(1) 6 ft long 1x6 board at Home Depot. Ask for them to cut it for you. 6ft Board is enough to make two cup turners
(2) 20” long pieces
(4) 5” long pieces
(1) 1/2”pvc precut 2ft piece. Use a hacksaw to cut into 6” pieces. This enough for two cup turners
(4) 1/2”pvc 6” long.
(1) 1/2 pvc slip cap
(1) 1/2 pvc male adapter
(1) 1/2 pvc female adapter.
(1) replacement lamp cord
(1) synchronous motor 100-127 VAC
(1) 7 mm flexible coupling connector
(1) M4 x 8 screw
(1) foam football
Total materials cost with wood and pvc pipe remaining to make another one turner should be less than $20
Other items needed
7/8” Forstner Bit
5/32” drill bit
3/32” drill bit
Drill
Hacksaw
Clamp
Wood glue
4 wood screws
Pencil
Ruler or straight edge

Hi Mary. I agree that this version is better than the rotisserie kind. It's also much cheaper. The first one I made used the rotisserie motor and it was so wobbly and noisy - lol. This version works so much better.

Brio Designs So far they are working great. However, after about 4 hours (every time) the M4 screw loosens up and my cup stops spinning. I kept tightening it up but every time I use it, it loosens up again. I just bought some locktite screw glue for it. It’s suppose to help keep the screw tight even through vibration and long running time. Fingers crossed!
Perhaps your hole was a bit too large. I have one turner that did the same thing. When I disassembled the PVC cap and screw, I noticed a small crack in the PVC cap. I guess I tightened it too much and cracked it which I think was causing it to loosen and stop spinning. I purchased another cap, drilled a hole and reassembled it. I haven't had the issue since. The glue should work too.

Thank you so much for making a professional looking video. You have your act together, you don't waste time fumbling and stumbling around. If you do need to do something off camera, you at least stop the video then resume instead of making us watch you doing every little bitty thing. I watch a lot of videos and get so frustrated with people that drag on and on and do not have their thoughts and supplies together before they make their video. I quickly loose interest. No I'm not perfect nor professional by any means. I am just a girl trying to learn how to do things, which is why I do not make tutorials. Between myself and my husband, we do know how to do some things, but I certainly do not have the skills necessary to make videos so I leave that to you. The M4 screw, what size is it in mm?
Kristie, the package said M4x8 hex bolt. I didn't know what it meant so I just googled it and found that M4 means 4 mm. I hope this helps.

Hi, The only place I use glue is secure the football on the PVC. I didn't use glue on the male/female PVC couplings in case I wanted to disconnect them. If you don't plan on changing your footballs, then I would recommend gluing the couplings as well.

Is there a different in using 1/2 in pvc versus 3/4 or is it just preference? I seen another video using the latter size.
The size PVC you use matters when drilling your holes. You will need to adjust your drill bit size for your holes based on the size PVC you use. You will also need to make sure you select the appropriate size PVC adapters and slip caps.

Hi Lucy. Yes, you can use 3/4" PVC. However, you will need to a larger Forstner Drill bit because your holes in the wood will need to be slightly larger
You will also need 3/4" male and female PVC couplings.

Rose, you can find the motor on Amazon - just search for Electric Synchronous Motor. They are all pretty much the same and you can order them in sets of 2 or 3 if you want to make more than one turner.

Hello there, I have watched several videos today trying to get this figured out and all of them were crap except for yours! Those guys(literally guys) were awful. Thank you for your information and instructions. You actually explained while you were putting the turner together not like one guy who fast forwarded through the process with some loud assed music playing! I couldn't even finish that damn thing. I now feel like I have the confidence to make not just one bit a couple! I think instead of an on/off switch I'll just use one of those extra outlet strips with the power button right on it that way it also has a surge protector. Thank you again! PS will you be making any videos on making the cups/tumblers? 😁
Hi DeAnne. Thank you so much for your feedback. I love your idea to add a power cord with a built in on/off switch. I would do the same thing the next time I built a turner. I do plan to post some videos on my cups and tumblers. I am part-time crafter and I have way more ideas than I have time to execute them. Hopefully, I will get them posted soon. I made this today. My pipe keeps stopping while the motor is still going. Do u have any suggestions? Seems like the screw is loosening up
Hi Jessica, Sorry for the delay in responding. Make sure your pipe fits snugly inside the PVC adapter. Also, make sure the flexible coupling connectors screwed tightly inside of the PVC cap. I experienced the same thing and I cover these items in the follow-up video
What size drill bit did you use to make the holes in the wood (where the PVC pipe goes thru)?
It's a 7/8" Forstner Drill bit
So i'm using 4 -6"pieces per turner? They look so small compared to yours.
For each turner, you should be using two (2) 6-inch pieces of PVC or one (1) 12-inch piece.

My motors came with the couplings
How did you get the m4 screw to stay attached to the motor. Mine keeps coming unscrewed after a while
I had the same issue. I covered this in the follow-up video. You have to make sure the nut is really tight inside the PVC cap
