  • Why do manufacturers use the same model number on things that are slightly different? Today we will look at the Kobalt 24-Volt Max 4-Amp Lithium Power Tool Battery with 6 cells that are 21700 compared to the older 18650 12 cell battery Item #761710 Model #KB 424-03
    Battery voltage 24v dc
    Battery capacity 4.0ah
    Battery type Lithium-ion
    Battery MODEL #Kobalt KB 424-03
    Both batteries use good Samsung lithium cells and both batteries have the same model number.
    WARNING
    • Remove the battery pack from the package and examine it carefully. Do not discard the carton or any packaging material until all parts have been examined.
    • If any part of the tool is missing or damaged, do not attach the battery pack or use the tool until the part has been repaired or replaced. Failure to heed this warning could result in serious injury.
    WARNING
    • Do not attempt to modify the battery pack or create accessories not recommended for use with this battery pack. Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious personal injury.
    Before using the battery pack, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the battery pack, battery charger, and tools using the battery. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Before using it the first time, fully charge the battery pack.
    A fully discharged battery pack will charge in about 70 minutes with charger KRC 2490-03 in a surrounding temperature between
    41°F (5°C) and 104°F (40°C).
    • Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
    Know your power tool. Read the operator’s manual carefully. Learn the tool’s applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to this tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
    • When the battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal
    to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
    • Do not open the battery. There is a risk of a short circuit.
    • Battery tools do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; they are always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards when not using your battery tool or when changing accessories. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire or serious personal injury.
    • Do not place battery tools or their batteries near fire or heat. This will reduce the risk of explosion and possible injury.
    • Do not crush, drop or damage the battery pack. Do not use a battery pack or charger that has been dropped or received a sharp blow. A damaged battery is subject to an explosion. Properly dispose of a dropped or damaged battery immediately.
    • Batteries vent hydrogen gas and can explode in the presence of a source of ignition, such as a pilot light. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, never use any cordless product in the presence of open flame. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately.
    • Do not charge the battery in a damp or wet location. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock.
    • For best results, your battery should be charged in a location where the temperature is greater than 41°F (5°C) and less than 104°F (40°C). Do not store outside or in vehicles.
    For 3 years from the date of purchase, the battery is warranted for
    the original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship. This guarantee does not cover damage due to abuse, normal wear, improper maintenance, neglect, unauthorized repair/alteration, or expendable parts and accessories expected to become unusable after a reasonable period of use.

    It's not the same part number, you said the same part number when you read them but the ultimate output battery has part number KXB 424-03 vs old KB 424-03. Look at the battery in the video it clearly says KXB.

      anson belvin Nice catch as I totally missed the X in the KB. The numbers however are the same and I dislike it when things are so close but yet different

    The big difference people don't realize is the ultimate output can put the power down more aggressively. Tools that can't draw the extra juice you won't see a difference. But big impacts and drills you'll see a significant torque increase. But things such as vacuums that don't require alot of draw you're better off with the extended run. I own almost all the kobalt batteries and have noticed this.

    • @jordanalexander615
      @jordanalexander615 Рік тому

      @@jsplasha okay my vacuum and drill to be more specific. It's a small shop vac it's a static draw rate. And sure maybe a small cheap drill. But the ones we use are the biggest DeWalt makes that are cordless and the high output batteries really shine with it. Same goes for the high torque impacts.

    Kobalt 24v stuff is the bomb !!
    Sold my ''over priced'' Dewalt 20v brushless stuff,, to buy a bunch of misc. 24v Kobalt,, & a real smart move I made there !!
    A lot of the Kobalt stuff is actually designed & engineered in Germany,, with some of it actually assembeled in Nevada USA.
    As far as I' am concerned,, there is no better quality /''bang for the buck'' out there.
    The 1/2 drills,, actually use top shelf genuine Jacobs steel & ball bearing chucks !
    It's a no brainer. 😉

    Stanley does that too. I have 54 tooth ratchets and 72 tooth ratchets with the same part number, each size.
    Maybe they do it for warranty purposes? If you warranty an old tool, they just replace it with the new one.

    I’ve got the ultimate output battery new with the 1/2” XTR impact wrench kit..
    after using the battery for just about a month, and those 4 battery indicator LED’s starting to mess up..
    like after battery is fully charged up, it show only 3 bars.. sometimes 2 only…. and sometimes shows 2 bars lit up THEN check it back again and it shows 3… but never 4 full bars 😞! what’s the trick here, anyone got the same issue?!
    on the other side, I’ve been using the other extended run battery for about 2 yrs and it still works like a champ.

    It's actually a totally different battery considering the fact that it's using different batteries themselves so they definitely shouldn't have the same part number the only thing that's actually the same is they're running the same voltage the same number of cells in the bank but battery capacity wise the 21.700 hold a lot more power than the 18650s so definitely shouldn't be the same part number

  • @brentdiez7012
    @brentdiez7012 4 роки тому +3

    It looks like there are twelve 18650 cells and six 21700 cells.

    • @ClientGraphics
      @ClientGraphics  4 роки тому +1

      Brent Diez Sorry, looks like I accidentally cut out too much part of the 18650 cells. You are correct there is 12 of them.

    • @I7435IC
      @I7435IC 12 днів тому

      Yea,, 2 sets of 6 - 2ah. cells ''in series'',, to make 24v., & then those 2 sets are then paralleled,, to double the capacity,, to make 4ah.
      Each cell fully charged,, woul be just over 4 volts.
      4 times 6 = 24.
      Series adds up voltage,, & parallel adds up capacity,, for those that didn't know ... 😉

    I see no issue with using the same part number. Looks to me like they're replacing the older 18650 based models directly.

    I think they should’ve changed the part number on the battery. Lowes practices on their website are not very good. They take forever to update their inventory and they have a track record of messing up prices. If I order a battery, I definitely would like be assured to have the new version.

    Did the ultimate output battery have a tinny smell to it? I have 2 of them and they both smell like that brand new.

  • @neutrodyne
    @neutrodyne 4 роки тому +2

    On the newer battery they should do something like an A at the end of the part number. Simply to signify that it is the newer version.

      it's a KB (extended run) vs KXB (ultimate output) prefix before the numbers, Chris just had a mild dyslexic moment

    All of Kobalt's 24V 6.0AH batteries have black walls. So it's a safe bet they all use 12x21700 cells.

    You are clueless... THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PART NUMBER! I can see from your own video that the part numbers are different. The new battery starts with KXB while the old battery starts with KB. Make sure you have your facts straight before making a video.
