How is it this video only has a few hundred likes, even though it is 4 years old (at the time I write this). I think the answer is obvious...many have bastardized the definition and use of "respect." Nowadays, respect means, "listen to what I say and give me what I want." Instead, it should be what this man says, it is a two-way street, two must come together on even ground. The problem with that is it requires the swallowing of pride, but more, that is not devisive and does not sell the news of generate headlines. Love does not sell well in the media...hate does. Anyone still wondering why this and others like get low view counts while hate and division sells like hotcakes? Hate is lazy and easy, love and respect requires effort and hard work.
If only common decency could transcend any opinion. Despite his views, he could still respect someone with differing opinions. Even someone he viewed as the enemy.
What bravery it took to take on the task of meeting with a group he knows doesn’t like his race. He went in with an open heart and wanting to understand the why behind the klan. He didn’t show aggression just respect as another human being. Deception got him the first interview. Respect got him multiple interviews afterwards and the friendship with many members of a group that just simply didn’t understand each other.
We all need to sit down and say what we don't like about each other....then community leaders can help fix the issues causing all the hatred in the first place.....jmo
