And here 5 years after this video, tensions worsen and truth is finally surfacing. This man is too far ahead for his time, and maybe many years to come, because we’ve still got a long way to go
It's just a new way of shifting the blame from the criminals to their victims. Unfortunately, when this dilemma reaches critical mass the judgment often times can be blinding and void of humanity. Wearing down the compassionate leads to hopelessness and apathy. We are reaching that point. All these talks just sound like noise now. We just want it to stop.
WOW. That was an other worldly speech. Bravo Michael Smith and thanks TED for allowing him the opportunity. Listen to him America, whether you're religious or not!
Indeed. This should be thoughtfully and candidly studied and discussed. But in the current climate of reverse racism, just as in the preceding climate of direct racism, such study and discussion won't be allowed.
Watching this from the UK and I appreciate this man telling it how it is. Fatherless homes are a symptom of the toxic gang culture in part, and also in part on the media attack on the institution of marriage that has gone on for at least two generations, and then the welfare trap comes along like a bull in a china shop encouraging single mothers, baby farms, and making women effectively marry the state.

I understand you sister but I still dont like this video. He politely saying these statistics, then sliding the clumsy white people joke in. Its true but it's not grabbing me the right way.
Many of us know this. There are a lot of us who are trying to change how we have become use to celebrating this culture. But, people have the desire to choose.
They have the right to choose, but they need a different road to look down with different choices and lessons. How can we make that happen? What can we do? We should ask our leaders that exact question. How can these kids grow up different? Support from EVERYONE in the community. Love is stronger than hate and it takes alot less energy, and honestly it feels alot better. I love everyone. I'm a weirdo.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood... Robert Frost’s poem about choices has never been so topical. First graders should be exposed to it and a great deal of time spent discussing this topic. Same for second, third...college senior year.

Natalia Ayasha Ciccone F i definately agree🖒. we must be careful not to fall into the racism trap. if we can use racism as a end of discussion excuse, most of us will use it and ignore our own personal responsibilities in constructing our environment and culture. saying racism is whats sabotaging me leaves me with the hopless option of solving racism (that will exist forever) to ever succeed. it's like letting me see the jailor and the cell door but not acknowledging what got me there and how ill get out. you can look at countries and cities where blacks control the govt and they are just as drug riddled and morally empty as the others. at the end of the day we must pray for love and teach our children another way
Racism is not a thing of today. It has been around for years, he rather talks about cultural racism and how its passed down to generations and were not even aware.
I heard this before, but it seems like it gets more relevant as time goes on, simply because the change has not come. This needs to be heard by everyone.
You know if the issue is causing this narrative to be more and more relevant then its safe to say that its increasingly irrelevant due to no call to action or curbing the status quo. Sometimes its better to just put the blame on who it all hangs on. And unfortunately, we live in a country where we beat around the bush and make a 1000 apologies feigning the implications of the teuth of the matter.

The ones who don’t rap about these things get put on the shelf or blackballed. The ones who do rap about destruction is heavily promoted by the white executives. You just gotta know who to listen to. Go listen to J Cole “4 your eyez only”.... You might like it.

People here do not go by experiences anymore, it's now about what the media says and what a famous person says on social media. It would be a miracle if everyone would stop looking at the color of one's skin and stop focusing on the past. People will finally realize that it's how we've been treating each other all along that's been the problem.
This was never a problem when jazz and blues were the music we were putting out. All of a sudden, a bunch of Jews gave us a lot of money to put out violent music. What a wonderful soul. Good man of God. Walks the walk, talks the truth, makes no apology. Is not looking to be politically correct. God bless him, and keep him and his loved ones safe.
Your description reminds me of minister Louis Farrakhan.
"It doesn't take action to keep racism going, it takes inaction"
Racism? Not wanting to be around exponentially more violent people is not racism.
I love this man! He sees America how it really is and it is shown in his speech
The best TED talks to me are the uncomfortable ones to listen to.
So true!
That's when one learns.

WOW. That was an other worldly speech. Bravo Michael Smith and thanks TED for allowing him the opportunity. Listen to him America, whether you're religious or not!
this was SO REAL! Really applaud the minister
This needs more attention.
Indeed. This should be thoughtfully and candidly studied and discussed. But in the current climate of reverse racism, just as in the preceding climate of direct racism, such study and discussion won't be allowed.
Exactly. No other Words need to be Spoken.
flaco gordo Yes and we definitely know why Fox won’t show this. Probably because it’s too real for them and the truth hurts
Watching this from the UK and I appreciate this man telling it how it is. Facing the truth is one of the hardest things you can do.Rather than being offended and getting defensive, open your ears and listen . This treatment of ethnic minorities goes beyond police brutality. Its bigger than we realise and I fully agree that inaction will allow this cancer called Racism to spread.
Thank you Pastor Michael Smith! You never fail to speak the truth and draw us in when you do!!! God Bless you!!!

Fatherless homes is the problem
Fatherless homes are a symptom of the toxic gang culture in part, and also in part on the media attack on the institution of marriage that has gone on for at least two generations, and then the welfare trap comes along like a bull in a china shop encouraging single mothers, baby farms, and making women effectively marry the state.

This is one of the few Tedx talks that I was able to watch all the way through. I am a white, middle class male who can't truly identify with the struggle of black americans. But I was raised in a mixed culture. I was raised in a pre-dominantly black area and all the things he talked about, I've seen first hand.

Agreed. It's def more relevant now.
