Cool comparison vid. I initially started with a Gotek Floppy emulator on my 2000 classic and wasn’t much of a fan of it. I eventually upgraded with a SCSI to SD drive and loved it! Worth the investment in my opinion.
The new screen that they sell at mcp stuff really does make the old MPC come back to it's brand new state. Very bright and great definition. I put one in a 60 II last year and I was impressed with how it looked. Like you I love the sound of the 60 II. I need to change the floppy drive on the 60 II to a CF drive or maybe a USB drive. I've not got around to it because I've kind of been alright using the 2000XL. I will do it though.

I actually ended up selling all my MPCs to use just the Live. I know some people can work within those limitations on the old machines but it got tired pretty quick.

Solid question. I bought almost all of them at least once to see which I loved the most and decided to share my findings. Turns out it's the Live. All day every day. It's the only one I still own.
I just got my first mpc, a 2500 because I’m drawn to the sound, feel, and look of the old models. But if I ever get enough coin for a newer one too, I’m definitely hunting down a live, they definitely seem like the best newer models.

First of all thanks for geeking out over these 2 units. 2nd “On-stage” makes the best rolling stands for the 3k. (No contest! In the 90s every show that had an mpc on stage used “ On-Stage” stands. They’re just perfect in every way. ). 3rd I replaced my disk drive with a built in Sd card reader. Frikkin sweet! Rock solid so far (2yrs) and waaaaay faster. Load times are no longer a thing. 4th cop yourself a newer screen. They have the “ Big screen” replacement now but never eyeballed one. 5th, never noticed how cheesy my slider was till you pointed that out. Thanks. 6, I use a tiny USB fan on my unit. Some say the heat of the unit is factored in but that’s going by 1994 specs. Get a fan and keep that sucker cool. Especially if you’re gonna leave it on for hours. You can’t tell me that heat doesn’t matter. I will never believe that. Especially on a unit built in 95/96. I have a black limited. Same unit just younger.
Haha! That slider! My apologies. Cool tip for keeping it cool. I never noticed it over heating but I never clocked serious hours on it. This was my second 3000 and I just could NOT get over the older work flow and file management and sold it. After using a Live I am forever changed. I definitely miss the form factor of the 3k though. There is no better layout than the 60/3000. The buttons are spaced out well and are solid. They just feel right, as though they were made for serious use. I've yet to use a machine with a more satisfying button style and layout. I even have a picture of the 3k play, stop record buttons on my phone as my background. Good news for me though. The MPC X has a similar layout and from what I can tell a similar style of buttons. That's my next purchase.
@Vintageestereos Which one of the classic MPCs would be the best one to get. 60, 1000, 2000xl, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000. I guess what I'm asking is, if you had to choose one, which one would it be? Also, where do you buy your gear?
The S900/S950 have the same engine as the 60/60II. The only thing is that those sequencers didn't have any filters on board. Roger Linn didn't introduce those features until the 3000.
Those Roger Linn MPCs have a sturdier build quality than 2k Classic. Because a brand new 3k was $1000 more than a brand new 2k studio plus classic. A brand new 60 II was priced more than a brand new 3k. Plus all Roger Linn MPCs were made in Japan. 2k, XL, 4k, and some other MPCs were made in China. So it's unfair to make build quality comparisons. The back lighting is dead on those screens. Replace the back lighting. Not the screens. 60 II is good for those who like 12 bit sampling. 3000 is 16 bit like 2000 Classic, etc. Plus 3k doesnt load wav files and a lot of other s&^^^ that 2k Classic does. If I were to sell only one of those, I would quickly get rid of the 3k
The 2500 is everything (and more) I wanted the MPC2000 to be back in the late 90s. Now the MPC Live is where it's at for me. It's like aliens from the future came to earth and said "Should we give them infinite energy and healing?" And the one alien was like "Aw fuck no. Let's give those dirty humans some beat making shit from the future!" And the MPC Live was born.

I love my 2000xl but i would still like to try 3000 someda. I did 60 but its not for me not nuff sample time but sound is nice doe

Push the display button on the 3000 and turn it to the right. It may turn the light on while you may think it needs to be replaced.

If u want timestretch you should go for the 950, the 900 doesnt have it

And go with the S950 instead of the 900. I don’t think the 900 has the time stretch feature.

Is the s900/s950 sound actually the same or very similar to MPC60 sound processing?
I heard recently it's a bit of a different system.
