    I am going to drop a secret for you all. Old guitar delays sample at 12 bit and have longer sample times than these old samplers. Yes, no filter or converters but I tell you this so perhaps you choose a later model MPC combined with one of these pedals for that old flavor. My favorite is the Digitech PDS Echo Plus, which has 8 seconds of 12 bit sampling. The lower models are the PDS 4000 (4 seconds); PDS 2000 (2 seconds); and PDS 1000 (1 second). All versions come in rack form as well and the racks are called “Time Machine 8000, 4000, 2000, 1000.” These can all be had for hundreds of dollars, especially the rack units, which are rarer but usually a closet find and sell for $100-$200. Put one of these pedals or racks in the fx loop of a Roland MC-707 or makeshift fx loop on an MPC Live 2, and you will be money. Old school all day.

    If your sampling from a 33 record, speed it up to 45 then slow the sample down. It helps a little with sample time. But most people use the Akai S 950 with the MPC 60. I have the MPC 60II.

      Thanks for the info. My issue is that I was leaving too much room on the end of my samples being lazy. I cut them down and no longer have memory problems. I also upgraded the memory. I can't get into the rack gear. I'm running out of room in my office as it is.

    Ayo...stick with it. I just copped the 60 MKII and I'm still getting used to it. Having the 3000 kinda helps me to understand it better. Once you do the upgrades, the experience will get better. The biggest adjustment for me was navigating the buttons for the menu. I had to cop a Zulu SCSI because I didn't want to erase any of my old floppies.

    I bought one after I had to sell my SP1200. After the SP, the sound was a bit too vanilla for me (punchy but not crunchy, to my ears)...but for function, it can't be beat. Now I miss it! Absolute BEAST. Had to sell it a bit down the line too... Boo hoo.

    Yeah I was waiting on this video good find! Did you order the software upgrade 3.10 I believe?
    Also you should get the screen update it’s about $250 on MPC Stuff.
    Also with saving sounds etc. it’s best to use Double Density disk instead of High Density Disk! That could be why your having issues with the saving process!!
    In my opinion getting the SCSI and disk drive is not necessary for just 26 seconds. If you get the software update you’ll be able to choke out sounds or mute groups however you want to call it!

      I ordered the 3.15B OS. I installed them and they don't work. I ordered the 3.10 from Roger Linn's sight. He advised the the "B" in 3.15B means Beta. I'm a programmer, you would think I would know that right. I"m waiting on them to install the new OS. I already ordered the SCSI interface but I think it is a waste of money, but I"m in too deep now.

    • @knowEgo
      @knowEgo 7 місяців тому

      @@ppic7162 okay that's cool Roger Linn has a sight with the parts! If mpc stuff accepts returns, return that scsi and get the screen upgrade? There probably around the same price! When you get everything going let me know if you have this issue, my 60 has a few millisecond delay when you sample a sound; its not a deal breaker but very annoying when you try to sample on the first beat but there's that delay! So when I sample I have to sample early to get all my sample! Hopefully that's not too confusing lol.

      Thanks! There is a delay on Part 2. The 3.15B Vimana Eproms that I bought won't boot my MPC 60. I ordered the 3.10 directly from Roger Linn's site. He answers all the support emails himself. I asked him some questions about remaking the 60, or the 3000 like Rossum Sp1200 and he replied that he is not interested in the old stuff but he loves the Rossum Sp1200. I'm staying away from the rack mount stuff. I'm thinking about the Isla 2400 or the Rossum.

    but yeah.... the mpc60? id ask why, but getting your perspective on these historical pieces gives me a good piece of mind.... and it saves me money since you're being the guinea pig 😂.
    i couldnt mess with the older mpc's though, the new ones are just too good. i had the 2000xl and the 500, now i got the live and just ordered the X. its awesome to see they all came from a similar work flow (patterns, programs, tracks, sequences etc), but the workflow is so much faster now. thats why i bit the bullet and ordered a used original X for $1000. those qlinks make the workflow so much faster. thankfully im not with my ex-girl anymore to talk shit about my purchases 😂 "you bought another thing?? smh"

The worst thing for any new mpc60 owner is getting a reailty check on the bit rate..........mpc60 are 16bit not 12bit. I was gutted when told that and didnt believe it until i researched it. • @MrDebauch

      @@ppic7162 vimana fixes that... otherwise you have to put the pad on note off and time when you let go. also, the floppy drive is not 1.44mb, it's below 700kb. when you have the ram expansion you might be making two floppy beats.... however one single floppy is more than enough once you get used to tuncating like crazy... taking out un-needed sample length. you might need to cut tiny tiny bits to loop to fill gaps instead of sampling long. that is all part of the sound... it is probably more about the use of workarounds than the bitrate and sample rate.
