    The washer valve is a VW part, I think used on the mid ‘80s Passat GL version. Worth a rummage at the scrap yard?

      Yes, the part has a VW number on it. It held when I reinstalled it, so hopefully that remains the case. Even if it doesn't, there's n ot way I'm taking that entire bumper assembly off to replace that pump, especially when I likely will never even use the headlamp washers anyway.

    Starting issues: the fuel pump won’t switch on till the engine is revolving at a certain speed, if the battery is at all weary by the time the magic speed is achieved, the pump is trying to start on not a lot of volts. I found that by jumping the pump for a few seconds to pressurise the fuel rail the car starts very quickly indeed.

      That makes a lot of sense from the behavior I'm seeing. Not that I have the car back together, but I plan to keep my Battery Tender on it so I don't run into the same problem in the future.

      @@GuysWithRides1 at around the same time as the LH system was developed, VW had the digifant which as part of the startup routine ran the fuel pump for three seconds to pressurise the rail, the pump then didn’t turn on till the revs exceeded a limit, I can’t remember what but I have the manuals. This was to ensure that if an injector leaked then the system didn’t flood. Both ways achieve the desired effect, but the 928 is comparatively a sluggish starter. My car, like yours has been idle for years and the fuel pump seized. The replacement gummed up too, now I understand the importance of a readily working pump, it’s a lot easier. Btw, there is a workshop manual flow chart for non starting which is very good and logical. It’s worth digging out.

    Which Porsche is your favorite to drive?

      I've driven my fair share of air-cooled 911s and I would take my 928 or my Boxster any day over, especially at the ridiculous prices people continue to pay for them.

    Do you want the steering wheel 90 degrees off??

    • @GuysWithRides1
      @GuysWithRides1  5 місяців тому

      No, not long-term. To clarify, the car tracks straight with the wheel in that position; I'm not holding it there. Episode two posted in February, I replaced the steering rack and forgot to center the wheel before reconnecting everything. I'm holding off recentering the steering wheel until I elect to take the Pod out to re-replaced the odometer gear and replaced several burned out bulbs.

    Why are you selling?

    • @GuysWithRides1
      @GuysWithRides1  5 місяців тому

      Trust me, I do not want to sell the car. However, my GuysWithRides.com website remains too small with insufficient buyers to bid correctly on the classic cars we offer at auction. Consequently, if things do not turn around soon, I'll have no choice but to sell it.
