In this case, an internal electrical relay had failed, which is a common point of failure for these units. Failure of this internal component causes loss of AC function. A quick fix is to simply install a new controller unit. Alternatively, a cost effective repair can be made to modify the old unit to remove the failed relay and install a more robust relay. This involves some basic soldering skills. I made a separate video to show this repair.
Love it with the music as well! I have an ac issue as well. The hot air and fans work but not the ac. Any way to diagnose the cause? How did you know it was a controller unit issue and not something else?
@@legoverse1467 Thanks for watching! For me it was very quick. I verified the refrigerant was charged, and I saw that the compressor clutch was not engaging. With AC On, measured 12V at the clutch wire while the wire was disconnected, so the freeze switch and the HVAC unit relay was working with no load. Then measured VDC with the wire connected, and saw
Good video. The 928 is well engineered, but not over-engineered. Lots can be done, just have to be methodical.
Totally agree.
Is the video 9:28 minutes in length by accident!?
Lol, good catch! :)
Yeah those dental picks are hugely useful. I love how the music is synchronized around that dramatic moment of finding the washer on the carpet.
Yeah, I noticed that too. The conductor must have had a good time with that one.
thanks for putting this together... i have an 84 and videos like this can really come in handy
Love the 928. Glad if it can help!
Great vid. Thanks ! Doug
Thanks! Glad you liked it, and hope it can be of help! Mark
What was broken and then repaired?
