In 1996 I had a 1990 80 sport as a taxi in Newcastle. Same lump as an 8v golf gti and it was a beautiful pearlescent blue and came with the gauges in the centre console and split rim alloys the same as a Quattro. So smooth and quick. I loved it.

Wow. One of the best cars I ever owned . Owned a red C plate Audi 80 sport in 1991 I think.
As a young lad it was a seriously fast, smooth drive.
I remember the gear change was so slick and it had a beautiful factory smell inside.
The 3 gauges made it even more sporty .
I recall it's had brown tweed cloth seats?
    Not sure now ...
Either way I loved it and it made its mark as I've owned way too many cars that didn't.
When it was jet washed ....just magic to watch!!!

Thank you, Jonny, for this easy and unruffled re-animation of this Giugiaro-designed classic. The four-door model and Coupe are the essence of Rallying in the mid 1980s and here in North America sales reflected their popularity/practicality. I was surprised to read the seemingly modest horsepower figures on the screen, but as I recall, 110-130 horsepower was typical for cars in this era. This one stands out in all its stickered and bespoilered glory. Love the Ronal wheels and Rally lights, too!

This was an interesting watch. I had 2 new Golf Turbo Diesels, one in 86 the 2nd in 87.
In 88 when our 3rd child came along I decided I couldn’t afford to run a new car any more.
The diesel Golf was so popular that the VW dealership bought it back off me for a good price.
While I tried to find a decent used car they loaned me a red one of those 80s.
It was a lovely thing to drive, but in the end I chose practicality & went for a Passat estate.
I can still remember the smile that resulted from touring around in that Audi. 👍

Got out on I-85 in Atlanta to 2-285... no brakes. Nothing. I said not a word. Drove back in the rain. $1000 for the car became $400. I drove it home to the mountains of NC and fixed it over the weekend. I kept a box of door handle kits in the trunk. I could fix them pdq.

The Passat engine was also the same as I stuck one in my Audi 80 Sport.

Always a handsome car, Stirling Moss raced one in the 80's

The car Stirling Moss raced was a two door, not available in the UK, 1.6 'GLE'. A model which was discontinued when the 1.8 GTE arrived.

This is my favorite episode. One of my favorite cars of all time. Had a brilliant 84 Audi 4000 Quattro for ten years. Best car I ever owned. 5 cylinder. Better than any Audi, Merc or BMW I owned since. Fuel pump failure were notorious on these cars.

Had an '85 Audi 90 for a while, essentially the same car but with the wonderful 2.2l 5-cylinder unit. It was a delight.

I was driven to school in the mid 1980s in one of these. My friends father had one and he drove it like he was being chased by the police every single morning.

This was one of the first cars I ever drove back in 84. Very underrated when everyone was going for Cavalier SRis. Apart from the engine, what made this car was the relatively low ratio gearbox which allowed it to make the most of the modest power available.

After hitting my head numerous times on a partially open garage door I winced everytime you passed under it!
Another great vid of a car I wished I'd bought.

I owned an 80 sport in the mid 90’s. I sold my XR2 to buy it, and much preferred the Audi - with Bilstein shock absorbers it was faster than my XR2. I liked the Audi so much that my next car was another 80 Sport

I loved this one. i had an 80SC from the same year in metallic green and put about 250,000 miles on it before she was finally scrapped at 350,000 miles. It was probably the most reliable car I have ever owned and I can only remember replacing one light switch. Other than that it was unbreakable and served me so well. I do remember that the headlights were really dim so I can understand why the spots were fitted.

Love it. I had the same shape 80 Quattro back in the late 90s when i was a student. Bought for £350! Such a good car, never went wrong. Can you imagine an 18 year old student getting insurance on an equivalent model Audi now?! 😂

This video reminded me of my Grandfather who bought a brand new, brown Audi Fox in 1978. This thing was like a spaceship to 11 year old me having grown up being carted around in 1970s American behemoths. The trunk (boot) of his car was full of spares and, most importantly, the Audi factory shop manual. 500 pages of glorious black and white exploded views of every single bit of the car. I would spend hours poring over this tome every time he and my Grandmother would visit from the City. A couple of years later, we picked up a '78 Ford Fiesta (my first car, after the '75 Impala I learned to drive in hung up its spurs), inspired, no doubt by Granpar's Audi. Thanks for this video!
