The black parade being a so called "rock opera" is an album that should be listened from back to back as a whole, it is a masterpiece. Each single song from it is great, but the arrangment of whole album creates a totaly different picture.
The Black Parade is a concept album that tells the tail of a terminal cancer patient and memories, emotions and revelations they've had in life. This track uses the black parade is a metaphor for death and passing over to the afterlife. Hence the hospital patient with blurry narrowing vision at the beginning, then turning ghoulish, with the darkened eyes as he joined the parade. The parade its self to me is like a celebration of life and remembrance of those who die as they are escorted on to the afterlife. Even the line "we'll carry on" is like reassurance to them that they will not be forgotten and don't worry about us, we'll make it. It's a piece of art that is best observed from start to finish, but this track was widely considered as their "Bohemian Rhapsody" and stands strong as a single. I'd love to see a full album review if you had the time, even re-listening to tracks in their respective order. And if you do enjoy it, I'd recommend any of their other albums as a whole too. They have ongoing themes or stories in each of them. Also fun fact: Gerard Way, the lead vocalist, is also the creator of the graphic novel "The Umbrella Academy", which had a couple seasons on Netflix.
Perfectly articulated. I was going to comment saying pretty much the same thing. The Black Parade album is a journey that's best listened in full, even though there are stand-out tracks. To me, it's their masterpiece.
oh is it really? i always assumed it was more political than that (with the sign in the MV saying "starved to death in a land of plenty", or the lyrics "your misery and hate will kill us all".
Two years ago, my daughter was struggling and overwhelmed with university demands and the difficulties of getting a degree at the height of the covid pandemic. She ended up being admitted to a psychiatric hospital due to being severely depressed and suicidal. This song became her strength and her anthem. Through some very challenging times MCR has saved her and our family. This song is on all of our playlists and is our go-to anytime the world gets too heavy. We Carry On!
This is literally the epitome of jamming with your misery. They use dark and relatable themes but songs like that make you feel a strange wave of catharsis by the end. This is true with all emo/grunge/rock/metal music from 00s in particular. This is a story about the "patient", who passes on from this life... the scenes flashing are his memories.. and in the end, he joins the "black parade"... meaning his death. (very simple explanation, but I'm sure you get it)
also worth noting that the black parade is a using the belief that death comes in the form of your greatest memory from the idea of your life flashing before your eyes. This case being his viewing of a parade with his father.

Awesome that you're checking out My Chemical Romance! My personal favorite songs by this band are I'm Not Okay and Famous Last Words (this song is from The Black Parade album).
Dude! This is their BoRhap! This may already be in the comments, but this video is so visually stunning and the voices in tandem gawd it brings me to tears. Crying now. You just need to watch from the beginning what their concept is
Oddly enough, this is a Christmas song for me. I worked retail the year this came out, and it was on our store’s corporate dictated radio rotation during the fall and winter. With all of the hours I worked that winter, I’ll always associate this song with Christmas.
I hope you do more MCR songs. They have a lot of great songs. This is the only CD to ever make me cry. Not this song. But the day I got this CD I was listening to it at like 2am and the song "Cancer" came on and I had recently lost my grandpa to cancer and my grandma on my dads side was going through cancer. I just kind of lost it. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it honestly. I love MCR, always have, always will and I'm so glad I got to see them live last October.
the black parade helped get me through my mom’s cancer battle and the loss of her at the end… she actually had me put it on her phone so she could listen to it at her treatment appointments, too. i can finally listen to “cancer” without crying because i know she loved it 💜
I'm 100% going to cry seeing them perform this album in October I already know it, I never thought I'd have the chance to see them play it live after their tour for it back in the day but I'm going to and I haven't been this excited for a concert in years

The End Na na na Scarecrow Disenchanted Planetary Go! Sing I don’t love you Cancer (if you can stop crying 😢) Destroya Party poison This is how I disappear Listen to the black parade album. The whole album is a story of the patient who is sick with cancer, ultimately he passes away. This song was the moment the patient passes away (when the curtains drop). MCR are one of my all time favourite bands. They got their name from a book that Mikey Way (the bass player and brother of the singer Gerard Way) was reading. Book was called Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance by Irvine Walsh
Great song. As I interpret it, his father (who took him to the city to see a marching band) inspired him to be a good person (the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned). The Black Parade represents the father’s funeral, and in the rest of the song he carries on the memory and the message of his father, though not taking credit for it (I’m not a hero, I’m just a boy who had to sing this song). The only part that confuses me is the first line of the upbeat part - “sometimes I get the feeling, SHE’s watching over me”. Why she, if it’s about his father?
Extra comment to somewhat explain the video. The guy in the beginning is dying. In his last moments he thinks of his fondest memory, which is his dad taking him to a parade when he was still young. Death (as explained by the front man Gerard Way) comes to you in the form of your happiest memory. It can be a moment, a person, an experience, whatever. And for this dude it was a parade. To avoid spoiling too much (if you're interested in the album) the whole thing tells this one guy's story as he talks with "Death". Personal theory: This leader of the parade is taking him to the afterlife, as they go through his "goods and bads" on their journey. It's a little open-ended, where he ends up but it's an amazing journey. PS: the punk in punk-rock is very prominent in My Chem, so I strongly recommend having lyrics on hand when reacting to their stuff.
Bro this is my first time watching your video but you're very in tune with music theory, the fact that you're taking in the lyrics with the music video and the sound. Bro you have a new subscriber! you're a true one! and the fact that you're a rapper giving my music a chance. Bro. god bless!!
I know everyone here will tell you Black Parade is their best album, but for me their best will always be Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge-especially the songs ‘Helena’ and ‘The Ghost of You’
In the beginning, the guy in the bed is dying when his eye sockets go black he's touching death, he's reaching for the other side. When he dies, the hospital disappears, and he crosses over and joins the black parade. Possibly a bit of a take on the wild hunt where all the tortured souls join together and ride across the cosmos for eternity. It is ultimately a song of hope, saying that those who are gone are not forgotten or alone and a message to that those who are left behind that they have the strength to keep living, even when it tears you apart.
Is this really ur first time hearing this song?!?!!? I love this album which centres around a central character. And i love their album Three Cheers for Sweet Revevenge which also has a story line running thru the album
This song will be played at my funeral. I think we could all agree its one of the perfect ones. I dont want people to be sad thinking of me. I want then to be able to carry on.
I never was a huge fan that I was obsessed with them.... but I did listen to their songs back in the day. "I'm not okay" is actually my personal favourite. Some of these songs that started to come up on your channel really make me f-ing nostalgic. For a short moment I wish to be a teen again. Also btw wont you post it on Patreon as well?
Next stop - reacting to The Black Parade album. Thank you for your thoughts, I love the way you got the feeling of this song, even though it's a bit confusing at the beginning.
Fun fact Gerard Way (blonde singer) wrote The Umbrella Academy, very cool! Awesome reaction, I realised we were dancing the same at each part lol whoooo fun fun fun
as a mcr + skz fan, I’m so happy to see you discovering MyChem! q___q they are my all time favorites since 2006-7, and in my opinion their lyricism and music are one of the greatest things ever happened to the music industry
I have the words Carry On tattooed on my wrist because it's a great life motto (idea came from this song). If things are bad, carry on through. If things are good, carry on with what you're doing instead of slacking off or changing course. AND, your memory will carry on when you're gone, so live in a way that makes that memory positive and uplifting and world-changing for the people who remember you.
Emo kid for life here... The Black Parade is one of the best albums for me all time. This song was an anthem for a whole generation! I would suggest also check out "Boy Division" and "It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Fucking Deathwish" by them.
I love MCR so much, their music comforted me for many years... but I also love DWAEKKI who is behind, SKZ is really great! Gerard and Bangchan my two favorite people in the world. 🖤
So, you see a scene of a patient surrounded by nurses, one of whom is holding the patient’s hand, the lyrics speak of leaving this world to join “the black parade,” and your interpretation of the situation is…torture??
So awesome to see how you get so into this! I saw them live years ago, and hearing them perform this was northing short of incredible. The Black Parade album is fully worth a listen, if you ever get around to it. It stirs up so many emotions. I think of it as their masterpiece album. (New viewer by the way, I'm enjoying your content!)
Honestly jealous of you 😩. I watched you experience Skz for the first time and go through the journey, and now you get to experience the Bohemian Rhapsody of our time also for the first time. Hope you enjoy listening to MCR as they were the voice of hope for many of us.
My all time favourite band! this has been called the modern day Bohemian Rhapsody! - this song is amazing live.. I had the pleasure of witnessing this masterpiece!!
You should know that when this song came out... It became the anthem of our generation back in the day... this is the modern version of Bohemian Rhapsody...
even if im late to finding this channel , this is an anthem for everyone thats on death´s edge and for everyone that´s lost a loved one, the anguish of loss and the "carry on" is a memento to just survive. dont dwell , its so impactfull . my brother and father died 2 years before this song and i was so broken i took to the bottle. this song pretty much saved me after 2 years of drunkness. its just so amazing what music can do.
And in case it’s not on the list yet, I think you’d be really into The Used- The Taste of Ink. As soon as you hear the intro, you’ll never get it out of your head!
Fun fact: The lead singer of My Chemical Romance. Gerard Way, is also a notable comic book writer, creating and writing the Umbrella Academy, which was later adapted by Netflix.
YESSS OMG I've been asking this for ages thank you so much!!!!! MCR is known for their theatricality and dramatic visuals, till this day people is heavily inspired by their aesthetic and music. Most of it comes from Gerard Way (the singer), he's an artist who has always loved comic books and has worked with it even before the band. He's also the author of The Umbrella Academy, which became a tv series on Netflix. He's a genius.
This song in particular is about grief. Learning to carry on after death. It's almost like a promise to the person who died, that you'll carry on after them
This is one of the best concept albums out there imo, and I really only started appreciating it a couple years ago. Deals with death and tragedies of life and this song now always makes me think of my late father and the emotions I have behind that. I highly recommend watching the wendigoon Breakdown of how rearranging the track order of the album creates a chronological story of a bitter individuals battle with cancer and eventual acceptance of mortality and being ushered into the afterlife by the Parade Leader/Reaper… this album so needs to be made into a film.
This band, this album, and this song were all a reaction/response to the attacks on Sept. 11th, 2001 The lead singer was on a ferry in the Hudson at the time the first plane hit. You can imagine how it affected anyone in that position. Hell, I was at home watching the news while getting ready for college and was traumatized by the footage. I can't even imagine being there in person.
My greatest band growing up. Ray Toro on guitar, really reminds me of Queen when this song kicks off. The whole album is genius honestly, its a story. Gerard way was an Idol for a long time. 😂 Nostalgic, Thanks for this one. 👍
I absolutely adore this song. Funny you mention it sounding like Christmas music tho bc I found a mashup/mixup video of All I Want for Christmas is You and this song and it actually goes really well together
I did not expect this haha this band made me who I am today🔥 reminiscing my emo phase - high school days with this song (searching for my eyeliner..) this genre started it all for me and now I'm into metalcore and deathcore🔥🔥🔥

I’m always open to trying new music, it’s just got to hit me in a certain way to stick.
Nevermind the meaning behind the lyrics, musically this is a masterpiece and the faces you was pulling shows you heard it! Excellent review, enjoyed this one bro
The ghost of you, cemetery drive, Helena, all bangers!! Every ones of their songs is amazing!! I’ll always be an emo to my core ♥️
React to the WHOLE The Black Parade album. It's so good.
I’ve been a my Chem fan for over 20 years. Their music has gotten me through a lot. I was lucky to relive some memories last year when they came to Detroit again!
😊
hey teddy, i follow alot of your kpop reactions because i am a kpop fan but i am originally a emo lol chemical romance is my shit till this day! thankyou for your reaction. i hope u react too helena maybe in the future!
MCR isn't even emo
seconded !!
@@VANTARTS Man shut your corny ass the hell up.
You've got to do their song Helena next!
I love MCR! I always thought they were like theatrical storytellers. I went to the Black Parade concert in Mexico and just loved their Day of the Dead vibe. I would suggest all of their songs, but I do find myself always listening to "The Ghost of You" and "Mama". Hope you check them out.
The amazingness of this song gives me chills every single time while my ponytail is flipping wildly! lol
So glad you enjoyed as much as I do! 😅🖤🙌🏻
i love when people slowly fall in love with this song
Awesome that you're checking out My Chemical Romance! My personal favorite songs by this band are I'm Not Okay and Famous Last Words (this song is from The Black Parade album).
I always get goosebumps when listening to this song.
Brilliance in song composition and performance, from musicality to theme. Just. Perfection.
I love MCR, always have, always will and I'm so glad I got to see them live last October.
the black parade helped get me through my mom’s cancer battle and the loss of her at the end… she actually had me put it on her phone so she could listen to it at her treatment appointments, too. i can finally listen to “cancer” without crying because i know she loved it 💜
I'm 100% going to cry seeing them perform this album in October I already know it, I never thought I'd have the chance to see them play it live after their tour for it back in the day but I'm going to and I haven't been this excited for a concert in years
My little black heart is so happy 🥹
I always look at that sign "Starved to dead in A Land of Plenty"
After his father dies, he'll (the singer) will cary on, live on after the loss
This is a 90 babies anthem. This one is a classic
I’m so happy you reacted to this song, it’s epic!!
Here are my MCR suggestions:
Famous Last words
Helena
The Foundations of Decay
Teenagers
Mama
I’m not okay
Ghost of you
Sleep
Cemetery drive
Light behind your eyes
Kids of yesterday
Dead!
The End
Na na na
Scarecrow
Disenchanted
Planetary Go!
Sing
I don’t love you
Cancer (if you can stop crying 😢)
Destroya
Party poison
This is how I disappear
Listen to the black parade album.
I think he is talking about "Death"... "i feel like she is watching over me" like as "death is waiting for me"
Extra comment to somewhat explain the video.
Boys and girls, please stand for our national anthem ✌🏼🖤
I have always adored this song, this band. Ghost of You is my personal favorite from them, but they are just incredible, all the way around.
Ghost of you is underrated, IMO. Great mv also
This song will be played at my funeral.
Still one of my favorite albums to this day 🔥💜
Next stop - reacting to The Black Parade album.
As a 34 year old black man from the south this song is legendary. That album itself is the same.
Black Parade gives me Bohemian Rhapsody vibes and it’s one of my favorite rock songs!🙌🏻
Fun fact: if you play that single note at the start, an entire generation of people will look around for a disturbance in the force 😂🖤🤘
Welcome to the black parade, in my opinion, is the "bohemian rhapsody" of our time. I could be wrong, but it just feels like it.
Yes!!! I was thinking the same thing and that might be what they were going for too 😅
I think it’s very apt considering the band are very big fans of Queen.
They have even headlined a live festival with Brian May as guest guitarist.
highly suggest you to check out:
- Mama
- Famous Last Words
- The Ghost of You
- Sleep
- Disenchanted
Listen to the whole album in order. It makes sense.
The one piano note of this song is to rock and emo fans what the first note of "Back That Azz Up" is to rap fans.
You know it immediately
that's my childhood right there man. brings me to tears every time!
This drum beginning is one of the best ever
as a mcr + skz fan, I’m so happy to see you discovering MyChem! q___q
they are my all time favorites since 2006-7, and in my opinion their lyricism and music are one of the greatest things ever happened to the music industry
Damn. Let me just pull out my iPod nano from 2007 and show you my playlist haha.
Same😂
I have the words Carry On tattooed on my wrist because it's a great life motto (idea came from this song).
Your appreciation of the song is so sympatico with my feelings hearing/watching the song/music video.
Loving it!
One of the best bands in my lifetime!!!!
My all time favourite band! this has been called the modern day Bohemian Rhapsody! - this song is amazing live.. I had the pleasure of witnessing this masterpiece!!
Oh Gerard....those opening notes....my heart....🖤🖤 I'm not crying you're crying.....
The black parade is death....we all join it.
You should know that when this song came out... It became the anthem of our generation back in the day... this is the modern version of Bohemian Rhapsody...
P.O.D Youth of the nation fr🎉
even if im late to finding this channel , this is an anthem for everyone thats on death´s edge and for everyone that´s lost a loved one, the anguish of loss and the "carry on" is a memento to just survive. dont dwell , its so impactfull . my brother and father died 2 years before this song and i was so broken i took to the bottle. this song pretty much saved me after 2 years of drunkness. its just so amazing what music can do.
it's so satisfying to see someone react to all the stuff from my childhood... linkin park, disturbed, now this...
And in case it’s not on the list yet, I think you’d be really into The Used- The Taste of Ink. As soon as you hear the intro, you’ll never get it out of your head!
I absolutely love this song, from the start which is intense to just a full on rock song, incredible song!
It's almost like a promise to the person who died, that you'll carry on after them
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
This is one of the best concept albums out there imo, and I really only started appreciating it a couple years ago. Deals with death and tragedies of life and this song now always makes me think of my late father and the emotions I have behind that.
I highly recommend watching the wendigoon Breakdown of how rearranging the track order of the album creates a chronological story of a bitter individuals battle with cancer and eventual acceptance of mortality and being ushered into the afterlife by the Parade Leader/Reaper… this album so needs to be made into a film.
This band, this album, and this song were all a reaction/response to the attacks on Sept. 11th, 2001
The lead singer was on a ferry in the Hudson at the time the first plane hit. You can imagine how it affected anyone in that position.
Hell, I was at home watching the news while getting ready for college and was traumatized by the footage. I can't even imagine being there in person.
Goosebumps.. Its been a long years ive never it again..
So long and goodnight...
This is my first favorite band..
Gotta check out Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge album. So good
My greatest band growing up. Ray Toro on guitar, really reminds me of Queen when this song kicks off. The whole album is genius honestly, its a story. Gerard way was an Idol for a long time. 😂
Nostalgic,
Thanks for this one. 👍
Hey Teddy, this is my first time visiting your channel, and I noticed that it's your three year anniversary on UA-cam. Congratulations!!
cool fact, the singer is also a well known comic book creator, he did The Umbrella Academy, Netflix has a liveaction adaptation
I need a full reaction to the whole album
I absolutely adore this song. Funny you mention it sounding like Christmas music tho bc I found a mashup/mixup video of All I Want for Christmas is You and this song and it actually goes really well together
I did not expect this haha
this band made me who I am today🔥
reminiscing my emo phase - high school days with this song (searching for my eyeliner..)
this genre started it all for me and now I'm into metalcore and deathcore🔥🔥🔥
You should check out Chinchilla...she's amazing & I think you would like her. Just a suggestion!💟
I'm a fan of you so I was so anxious that you wouldn't like this. MCR is my favourite band since 2006 so seeing ppl liking their stuff 17 year later is wonderful to me. Hugs from Sweden.
