All due, but talking over the lyrics with MCR can hamper your experience. Cancer is one of the most heartfelt and truthful songs ever written about the experience of having that disease (and I can tell you first hand; i'm a survivor, but that song would have been played at my memorial), and you talked through the entire thing.

Also, idk if you mentioned this but the UA-cam video you’re watching also includes the B-Sides of the album (Heaven Help Us, My Way Home Is Through You, Kill All Your Friends) as well as the secret track, Blood. The actual album ends with “Famous Last Words.” So, those B-Sides and Blood aren’t officially on the album (I suppose Blood is, but it was a “hidden track” I believe if you waited 5 or so minutes after Famous Last Words ended on the vinyl + CD)

I grew up in the 80s-90s and am a HUGE Queen fan. I enjoyed a few MCR songs here and there (I was too old for the emo scene) but when this album came out it gave me such huge Queen vibes that I had to sit down and really listen. And I loved it. Saw them on tour for that album and it was really great.

track 6, "Heaven Help Us" isn't on the original album. it's a bonus track. "My Way Home Is Through You" and "Kill All Your Friends" are also bonus tracks from the deluxe edition of the album from iTunes. They don't fit the narrative of the standard album as well.

Little fun fact about this album: they recorded it in the Paramore mansion, which is known to be haunted. The band went through very many mental health crises during the recording of the album, and that’s what the dialogue about the “night terrors” is about at the beginning of Sleep. Gerard Way would have horrible night terrors in the haunted mansion and it felt like someone was gripping his throat and choking him.

I kept MCR at arms length for the same reasons as you as a teen until a girl (a former 14yo emo girl) i dated put me on this album. Just baseline musicianship and production wise they are so far above their peers of the era. Like every 10 seconds there's a "ooh that's a cool/interesting choice" moment. Also I miss guitar solos! We don't get enough of them more.

Same story. I was in hardcore metal bands that spent their time posing as "thougher" and "more serious" than this. I was a teenager and I guess I was impressed by the community i've found, so I was nourrishing something of a pejorative look at emo bands and the emo culture. Fell in love with a girl who was a fan of MCR. Never shared this with her. Then we separated. I was sad and I missed her really much. Listened to MCR, I dont know, to understand something. And I did. A couple of years later, as friends (YES we can) we went to see MCR's comeback in Paris. And I felt like "hahaha, such a shame, years without understanding this music and here I am enjoying every song and shaking my ass in this seat that a longtime hardcore dreamed of"...

He started listening to them to try to know me better. Dislike became appreciation... then became love. Funny how in the end, it's the smallest gestures that make you smile. Thank you for sharing this.

I don't really like the sound of teenagers either, but I love the song anyway, solely because of Gerard writing it while being scared of high schoolers on a train and feeling old. I always imagine him sitting there, writing that fcking song to cope, all stressed out and surrounded by teenagers. It's hilarious, and the song not really making sense for them as a band, and it becoming a troubled emo teen-anthem only makes it even more comical to me.

Huge album. One of the most iconic rock albums of the 2000s. Like it or hate it, it was iconic.
Same as how people from the 90s loved or hated Nirvana's Nevermind.
It just takes time for people to get over their biases and what gatekeeper reviewes think.
There are a lot of great albums, but it takes something different to be 'iconic'. There is a reason that albums like The Black Parade or Hybrid Theory are considered as defining for the 00's rock. People tend to hate whats popular, some because they feel its not edgy to like popular stuff, others because they are annoyed that this album is more popular than whatever sub-genre basement band album they feel is better.
But objectively i find it silly to not acknowledge that TBP was a defining album of its time.

Give any young woman content that's dark, tragic, AND romantic, and we're pretty much sold. The rawness and imperfection of Gerard's voice also really sell it. It's the same reason I like grunge: Authenticity. Uniqueness. Shot through with messages of hope and perseverance.
Also lines like: "A light to burn all the empires / So bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be" have no business going so hard.

Played this so much back in the day my friend tossed the CD where I promptly grabbed a ripped version on CD-R out of my visor and loaded it back in.
Plus, Welcome to the Black Parade was pretty popular with Famous Last Words.
The emos were more Ateyu/Hawthorne Heights and even then people on our basketball team had stuff on their iPods from all of them. Partially because I'd rip everyone's music and make one giant library for the school. You'd bring me your iPod, I'd rip the music, delete the multiples, and then upload a few thousand songs where there were _maybe_ a couple hundred at best. So maybe that helped break down some barriers.

Dude has the McLovin look without the McLovin vibes. At least he has on a Smashing Pumpkins shirt. MCR have never been & continue to not be "emo". I know, I know the look is there but that was the style of the early '00 era. I have always seen MCR as more punk rock or hard rock than anything else. I met the boys in '04 when working at a concert venue called The Masquerade in Tampa Florida. If I hadn't already been a big fan of 3 Cheers & MCR i would have after meeting Mikey Way first then the rest of the boys. Very sweet, genuine, and just really good dude's. I gave up my bar that night to work on the MCR rider backstage so I got to spend some time with them. Long live My Chemical Romance ♥️

    • @patrickperot6296
      @patrickperot6296 3 місяці тому

Yes. I think they are multiple genres, one of which is absolutely emo. Emo is just an especially emotional version of post-hardcore and/or pop-punk, usually. And I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love is one of the most emo album titles of all time. Up there with Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count.

Honestly, emo has kind of diverted from being a genre long ago.. It's more like a lyrical style now, really. Imo the last real genre of emo was midwest emo and then it just kinda diverged so much it stopped being a single genre entirely (side rant, sorry)

    • @patrickperot6296

Different people get different things out of music. some are very lyrically inclined, some are more into analyzing chord progressions or the way the vocals harmonize with the other instruments or the way a song is mixed etc. Lyrics don't seem to be a focal point for him, but chords are something he's clearly interested in, judging by the fact that he comments on them a lot.
Genuine suggestion, if that bothers you, try to find reactors who share your priorities. A lot of rap fans are very lyrics-oriented, maybe searching them out will help you find content you enjoy.
