I'm 20 now, and I see all the shit songs that people listen to nowadays. With most of the good songs reaching 1B only because the older generation who are now in their 30's or 20's listened to them when they were young. The generations taste in music now isn't good
it was summer of 2015, i was watching dan and phil non stop. i was going into 5th grade, and got my first phone. i played the apple radio and this song came on. life was good
completely forgot about this song till it came up on shuffle on an old playlist i revisited the other day. now absolutely obsessed, won't forget this time
for y'all wondering why she made a new video it's because she said in an interview she hated the first one so decided to have a food fight with her bestfriend instead
Am I the only one that prefers this video over the original one? I really like this video, I feel it fits the song more. It has a more sophisticated, eccentric vibe than the colorful contemporary feel of the other one, and honestly I think that fits the song and Ryn's entire style much more.
personally, i love this video a lot more. i feel like it represents what ryn wants her music to be about vs. the other video being what the directors/producers wanted her to be. the original video wasn't bad at all but after ryn talked about how rushed it was and how it wasn't the way she envisioned the video to be, this one makes a lot more sense. it's about getting over someone who broke your heart and celebrating.
That's understandable but still. They should have kept the first video too. After all it is the one people are most familiar with and it really was very fitting. This video is good too, but the other one shouldn't have been deleted
shannon It's nice to see Ryn having fun with this video, but I disagree that this video is better. Octahate's lyrics aren't about celebration, they make it sound like the pain is happening right now. "Earth keeps shaking", as opposed to "was". The music and the video just dont seem to fit thematically, and makes the raw pain the audio gives me feel less intense with the happy visuals.
Randomly played on spotify, I say I haven't heard this song in years in a while in a lot of song but hearing this specific just triggered so much memories and feelings. My heart literally dropped hearing this masterpiece after all this years, and remembering all the lyrics without even trying, like my mouth just sang the entirety of the song
Just heard this song in ABC's new show Quantico. I screamed when I heard it. Possibly spent the whole episode thinking now people will know Ryn. You're gonna get famous now, girl ;)
I used to listen to this all the time when it came out. Completely forgot about ut when today rabdimly to melody of the chirus was in my head. Ahhh so glad i found it.
You know, the song lyrics plus the video actually paint a very good picture. It’s as if she indulged too much in a relationship until eventually she lost herself
I worked at a Charlotte Russe in San Diego, this song would play once every few months or so. I loved it but I had no idea who sung it. That was two years ago. I wake up with this song in my head and I literally screamed when I finally found the artist and the name of the song.
The other video was weird, quirky, memorable, and incredibly unlike a typical music video. This is just weird and boring, and it really doesn't match the tone of the song.
Totally forgot about this song then I heard it playing in Chevys and I was like oooo I dig this. Searched up some of the lyrics on Yt and bam one of my favorite songs ever was brought back into my life
I love her references to the film Daisies (1966), such a fun and incredible film, and the food fight in that film is hilarious. If you haven't seen it you totally should!
You are right ! Daisies and this video are amazing. There's nothing bad in thess food fights. Do you know any simillar music video of food fight or smashing food, please ? :)
I'm really dissapointed by this videoclip. The table full of food ruined just for the song. Yo don't mind It ? :) I think It should be erased from UA-cam. What's your opinion ? :)
it wasn’t just a food fight with a best friend. In the video, Ryn encounters the girl that her ex-boyfriend was being unfaithful with. They’re meeting for the first time, having a meal, and although they have common grounds for an altercation, they hug it out afterwards.
I can't believe how much I cried listening to this song after my parents got divorced in 2015 and here I am again crying to this song after 7 years lamenting over my failed relationship lol
I saw a comment on the original that explained it perfectly. They said that the original portrayed the initial stage after a breakup such as the anger and frustration and stuff, but this new one portrays what happens after that and the way you pick yourself back up and how friends and family can help in that and how your just better off without them anyway.
I dont care what anyone says I am in love with this music video. It perfectly captures the light- hearted sweetness I hold so dear in some of my best female friendships.
Please bring back the first video, I respect that you have contracts and shit but seriously the first video was fun and wild. This video is just like every other out there. Still love this song just disappointed the first video got taken down.

I need to be real, Ryn is the most interesting new artist right now *but* remake a video for a song that was already released is not an intelligent thing to do. I hope she gets bigger, but girl you need some new strategies. ;)
Pretty sure she doesn't have success in mind when it comes to creating her music. She does what she wants and not what other people tell her she should do. As for it not being a smart thing it actually is smart. It will give the song newly found buzz because websites will bring the song up again because of the new video and generate new viewers who might potentially make more new fans for Ryn.
ISeeThreePieOh Actually, every artist lives for the applause (as Lady Gaga would say) and there's nothing wrong with that. Art needs to be recognized, or it will eventually "die". I just wonder why she didn't used the production money to do something new? It makes no sense to me. And I personally think the first video was way more artistic and the new one looks like something that one of those hipster kids would love. Anyway, she's great and I'm just here watching her movements 👀
Steven H. Yes of course she wants her art to be recognized however she is not greedy for it. She will not do something other people tell her to do just because it will gain her more fame, she does it her way in order to reach it which is rare to find in the industry these days. That's what I mean. So if it does not end up being super successfull I don't think she cares, I think she is happy as long as she can sell enough of her music to survive and to be able to perform and create more music. As for her making another video for octahate instead of a new song I think it has to do with how she wants to represent herself as an artist. She probably felt the original video was not representing her correctly and realised that it will be marked in her career forever and she doesn't want that. Considering she didn't get to be much part of the original video other than performing in it I can understand her. This video represents herself a lot more and how she feels when it comes to the song.
Seethreepieoh First of all, she's from Interscope Records, so she will do a lot of things that people (label) tell her to do *and* she (and the label also) definitely cares about her success. No success, no music. However, if she is truly happy with the video, I shouldn't care, but it still makes no sense.
Steven H. Of course the label will tell her to do things but that doesn't mean she has to say yes or is obliged to do those things. Another artist I love Kelly Clarkson is a great example of an artist who has constantly struggled with her label because they've told her how to dress, what music to make, to lose weight etc but she always says no and does her own thing. That has helped her reach a 12 year long successful career and still going strong because she has done things her way and has earned a lot of respect in the industry through that, now people don't even bother telling her what to do and instead asks her what she wants to do because they know they can't control her. An artist who says yes to everything is not really an artist are they? That's why I respect and adore Ryn so much for what she is doing so early on in her career. She is already taking control of it. The music video is about celebrating getting over a heartache/the past and embracing the present, being grateful for your past. In the video Ryn has her friend with her who she met through her ex and the song is about that ex. Does it make more sense to you now? Sorry for my extremely long texts but it's required to explain haha.

i’ve been looking for this song for the past 2 years
nalani perry ME TOO
I need to be real, Ryn is the most interesting new artist right now *but* remake a video for a song that was already released is not an intelligent thing to do.
