To me, I think the meaning of it all is that she fell in love with this guy when she was clean and pure. After she gave everything to him (represented by the dancing scene) and found no more use in her, he left her immediately and just left this memory of him and it contaminated her (Shown by her outfit change from white to black). Also note that in the first outfit she looked elegant and graceful, but in the black outfit she looked more troublesome and that's what the guy did to her. And she was still clinging onto him, which is represented in the cape, for awhile even though she knew it was foolish to do so. She held on for so long that it felt like she was literally drowning in this memory trying to escape. And in the end, that's like her groundbreaking moment where she said to herself that she couldn't handle it anymore and decided to go far away from the memory of him (the black ghost), leave everything behind, and start a new life, which is shown when she jumps through the portal in the final scene. Overall, it's a beautiful music video and I think she did a great job expressing the theme and message to her audience in a creative way that got us thinking.

Timmy Tuesdays The way I think about it is that it's about messing up while in a romance with drama or conflicted feelings. She meets the guy, The red cape is his beauty. "I tend to stack the deck" verse is about her being flighty and dependent. It's like a game with many options to her and so he relies. She's a 'fool' for him which refers to Tarot cards. The fool is known to ignore an animal that's telling him about the cliff feet away but, the fool is too blind and centered on the sunset.It's kind of like someone stopping you because an outcome but you're only focused on achieving your dreams. So, she's a fool for him because she tends to let him down and manages to fall in love. He leaves her and it's compared to how an ocean's water will drag waste with it as it crashes and goes back out. "The waves that crash-" verse means that their relationship is not built on a stable verse, just like sand, their problems sink and sink further. When Ryn is alone and walking, she's trying to find herself. When she comes face to face with the black thing, it's herself. When she drowning in the video and she's screaming, it looks like she's drowning and so it relates to internal conflict that she is drowning herself with pain, insecurities, regrets. It explains Ryn trying to protect herself against this creature. Then with her running, she's related to the fool because, she doesn't see the cliff just something good. The letting go of the cape could be like her saying that she's accepting her mistakes/past and not letting it weigh her down.
Her album is literally one of the best albums I've ever heard. Pure masterpiece. Can't believe she didn't blow up.
this album got me through high school. i recommend promises, pierre (which tik tok helped blow up a bit), and traveling song! but i think the album also reads well from start to finish. it seems she had a vision and it was well executed for a pop record. I am awaiting her return but i dont think itll be pop.
Honestly I consider this album to be on par with Adele or Fiona Apple, I will never understand how this is not more popular. Or I guess she is in Spotify, just checked and Pierre has 150M plays, none too shabby.
This is exactly what a music video should be. A beautiful, artistic interpretation of the music that actually gives the song additional depth. Now when I listen to the song I can't help but think of the video.

This album is going to be a masterpiece.
This is the greatest. I wish I was able to draw or write about how this video makes me feel. It really captures the feeling of being stuck, to me, I believe. The feeling of wanting so badly to get out of this place where you're just drowning. This feeling in your heart when you're hurt and stuck and all your heart can do is ache. I feel it. The suffocating feeling. I feel it and this video does a VERY good job of illustrating the feeling. In my life, I am dealing with things that seem so unfair to me in my mind and heart but seem rational to the world. I feel that it's because of a sense of longing of what I had or what I thought I had. This happening in my life only confirms that it's over. It's been over. I just can't let go and I am stuck. And I feel the need to let go but I am so SO SCARED. I feel afraid to let it go and I feel scared to hold on to something or someone new. And I feel soo sooo stuck. And in my hurting and all my depression, I forget of other people or things around me, I think, and that all goes downhill. Like, I become so complicated and so hurt but no one understands so they blame me. And I feel unwanted for being distant and for not wanting friendships because I am so scared. And I don't want to trust and it's all over the place. I'm ruining everything. And to cover up my mess, I put on this obnoxious and bipolar act and no one likes it. But I just can't find a way to hide my mess. I fear that someday I'll end up killing myself or just exploding. I am so scared and stuck. Thank you, Ryn. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. And thank Harry for getting me here. I don't think I would have "known" Ryn if it weren't for his tweet.

This video is so stunning and truly beautiful. It has like an olde world style feel to it and almost feels of another realm. I absolutely love the interplay with Ryn and her love interest. Some of the shots in the video are gorgeous and the whole direction of it I find breathtaking. I love Ryn she is an incredible woman and one of my main life inspirations

I discovered this masterpiece when i was in my 2nd year in college.. now I'm a graduate hahahahaha
I feel like this is about religion.. Like her white dress represents her purity from sin. She dances with the devil and is weighed down by sin, hence the long cape. She sees the bright light altar in the distance, as a way out of sin (back to God) but she doesn't because she thinks she can handle it on her own. Then, when the black shadow (the devil) comes after her, she sees that she needs to go back into the light to survive.

I feel it represents self-defiance on the prospect to gain favour from the world or in love. The mistakes and the assertions we are part of may both take hold on our future actions or arise from old guilt or inexperience yet we keep trying and nature makes fools of us all-thankfully.

Her white dress represented her innocence, then she met a man who she fell in love with, but he abandoned it (and her) as we see him run away. Her love for him, that at first tangeled them together, now held her down. I think that the black shadow represents despair, seeing as how he appeared from the water and people like myself describe despair as a feeling of drowning. I think that when despair started chasing her, she realized she needed to let go of her love to move on with her happiness.
