It's not racist to call somebody white. It's racial. Why does everybody use this word wrong these days? Identifying somebody based on their appearance is very different than hating or discriminating against somebody based on their appearance. That's like not allowing for people to say the sky is blue, when it's just a plain observation with no prejudices attached to it.
I agree with you...I can never feel bad somebody calling black because the fact that am not blue but black is okay..and if I prefer to be called brown then I say I prefer brown since am not completely black but a shade of brown ..but is still good for me too❤❤❤...
I'm German and I have to say: great people. Somehow happy all the time, while living in dirt (compared to Western European standards), always smiling, always manage to survive, always staying positive. We Europeans can learn a thing our two from those people. I appreciate European standards, but I feel humbled, when I see how half of earths population has to live and how happy some of them seem to be. ❤

In that village, happiness seems to bloom everywhere. Despite the lack of even a proper road, smiles are abundant. It's a stark contrast to the concrete jungle I call home, where many seem to trudge through life. Of course, not everyone here is the same, but the difference is striking.

Lugard's fort on Old Kampala Hill was the Ugandan colonial administrative headquarters until 1905, when it was moved to Entebbe. In 1962 Kampala (a municipality since 1949) became the capital of independent Uganda. Kampala was the ancient city of the approx. 700 year Buganda Kingdom.
I’ve been hearing stories about Uganda being the pearl of Africa, being very clean civil and organized, far ahead of the average African nations. It’s crowded at some places but still pretty calm, that detail really stood out to me, people are in peace it looks like. This video confirmed it all, the people and this country look so great!! The contrast in the videos with Uganda and China compared to India is HUGE.
Mzungu in the context of Ugandans especially in Bantu ethnic communities of East Africa or parts of Southern Africa means Wonderer as some have mentioned. However, it is not meant to be racist but a term for foreigners with lighter skin. It was adopted especially when Europeans arrived at the coast of East Africa and fearing the locals, they would try to get their way into the interior without proper guides. They would walk in circles and find themselves back to the point where they started their journey having lost track. Another belief is that because of the language barrier the European explorers or Missionaries couldn't communicate their intentions of visiting native communities and the natives decided to call them wonderers aka Mzungu (singular) or Bazungu (Plural) as people who are just wondering around without a proper plan. For centuries the MZUNGU term has been adopted for a foreigner with lighter skin colour than the locals are used to.
Yes, a lot of African countries call white people terms by their skin color. Even in Haiti they say, "Blanc" for white. In a lot of western countries it is inappropriate to refer to someone by their skin color. It comes off as racist. But what you wrote makes plenty of sense.

I’d be curious how you would describe the change

It's not racist to call somebody white. It's racial. Why does everybody use this word wrong these days? Identifying somebody based on their appearance is very different than hating or discriminating against somebody based on their appearance. That's like not allowing for people to say the sky is blue, when it's just a plain observation with no prejudices attached to it.

Uganda actually seems lovely. Not one person gave a bad look or anything, everyone acts super friendly
It's not a racist term, since English is even called oluzungu in Luganda!
Yes, a lot of African countries call white people terms by their skin color. Even in Haiti they say, "Blanc" for white. In a lot of western countries it is inappropriate to refer to someone by their skin color. It comes off as racist. But what you wrote makes plenty of sense.
I feel a bit guilty having just posted on one of Ben's videos suggesting that it might be a bit foolhardy to just somewhat blindly go into situations at the complete mercy of strangers who could really do you wrong if they chose to, but this video was really nice. The part about the school was really great. Although you guys are having great personal adventures, your videos are also providing some recognition to a lot of ordinary less fortunate people who would otherwise never get this kind of public exposure. There really are a lot of great everyday people all over the world. You, Mr. Bald, in particular seem to have a lot of natural warmth and charisma that allows you to focus on the positive and undoubtedly smooth encounters with the people you meet. Thanks to both you lads for allowing us to tag along.
You’ve retraced the exact path I took 16 years ago. This brings back such fond memories. I am so happy to see the Ugandan citizens are still just as welcoming and friendly to Mzungus. Cheers!
