Alanis Morrisette... the queen of the 90's pop rock scene. Literally every female (and it's not really limited to gals) who was a teen or older at the time LOVED Alanis Morrisette, ond for good reason! She was like the next Janis Joplin or Tina Turner... she was the voice for a generation who wanted to be heard. Having heard this song quite a few times, I never knew Dave and Flea played on it... actually dope. (And as others have pointed out, the drummer bring Pre-Foo Taylor Hawkins is ALSO sick as hell!) My dude said, "I love when artists throw in lyrics that are shocking (bizarre)" and Alanis immediately drops an F bomb 😄😄😆😆 I feel like I had heard the story about Dave Coulier but if that's true.... wow. What a connection... That Full House intro 😆😆🤣🤣 Gotta love those old 90's sitcom intros! This was an awesome reaction, your coworker is awesome, ya love to see it!
As a female who was just post high school when this came out, I can verify that this album in my playlist often. I like to think it was part of my growth as a woman. At the very least it gave me an entire album (and bonus hidden track, which was amazing) gave me a feeling of empowerment.
Her "voice quirks", "head mannerisms" and awesome music, of course, defined the '90s! She's amazing. I still remember the day I bought the Jagged Little Pill CD! "Ironic" was really really HUGE!
She is outstanding! I would describe her vocals in this song as “spitting venom”. Such a great track and you definitely feel the anger of betrayal. Thanks for the reaction!
It truly warms my heart to see people giving her in the jagged little pill album so much love in these comments. Reaction channels have been sleeping on this album and her for too long. She had a ton of hits but if you skip the hits and listen to the rest of the album you won’t be disappointed either. this and the follow up are pretty fucking amazing. I think people who love music need to hear Mary Jane Perfect Forgiven And the hidden bonus track. Those songs are some serious deep shit and a must listen.
As a young metal head I came across that album and loved her attitude so much I basically put this CD in my Walkmen and didn’t take it out for 3 months.
Mid/late 90s was a time when female rock singers were at the top of their game. Alanis, Meredith Brooks, Fionna Apple, Shirley Manson’ (Garbage), Gwen Stefani (in No Doubt), Dolores O'Riordan (in The Cranberries)... Even Sheryl Crow was mainstream.
It is crazy to me that people haven't heard this song, but I'm glad they get to experience the awesome of it! I still to this day get goosebumps from this song, it is just so good.

And I can personally attest that it hits much differently when you listen to it fresh from a painful betrayal and breakup. Nobody else I've ever heard can channel that raw grief and rage the way she did.
The entire album is my wife’s (and a lot of other women’s) all time favorite album. Alanis is dope man… that’s coming from a metal head. You should do more stuff from Jagged Little Pill that album was unstoppable in the 90’s. Also Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters is in the video on the drums.
Taylor played for Alanis for a year and a half in '95+'96. He joined the Foo Fighters in '97 This was right after his 'first real gig' in '94 playing drums for Sass Jordan.
Crazy thing was this was the 1st song released so this is what introduced her to the world!!!! Every girl/woman in the early 90s loved this album.......woman empowerment!!
She already had Gold andPlatinum Albums before JLP came out, but ohhhh so different, although on her 2nd album, there were 1 or 2 sparks of whom she would become.
Oh, yeah. This is great. Depending on the version, you can feel the emotion just oozing out of her. Alanis is a beast. Hand in My Pocket may be my favorite.
Taylor Hawkins was the drummer, and is the one in the video. It was filmed at Death Valley (some of the running scenes) and in a ghost town called Rhyolite, in Nevada. Been to both myself, but I'm from TN, so I need some choking humidity in my heat lol.
Alanis is amazing. Her music rocks, she played God in Dogma and her role in the TV show Weeds was just fantastic!! As a old school die hard metal head, Alanis is my dirty little pleasure to turn all the way up!!!
Had a girlfriend around '95 - '96 who was in love with this whole album, and made me a fan in short order. I think it was really beneficial for young women at that time to have a legit female artist like Alanis. Someone who could be a little shocking to the system and wasn't afraid to sing about whatever she wanted.
Canada had a plethora of In Your Face, Kick Ass, Ballsy Female Band Leaders then besides Alanis. There was Sass Jordan, Alannah Myles, Carol Pope, Amanda Marshall, Darby Mills, and Holly Woods for starters. It was a very good time.
Yeah, you don't know how out-of-left-field this was when it came out. This girl pulled no punches with her lyrics and most of the songs on the record are just great, and the few that aren't great are still solid. I was in high school when this came out and even though I was a huge Metalhead I just loved it and listened to it front to back all the time. It really changed my views on music and made me really aware for the first time of how a female p.o.v. could be as edgy as anything the dudes I admired at the time could do, and how that female p.o.v. could certainly go way beyond simply the lyrics and bleed over the music itself, if that makes sense. To this day, a coupe of times a year, I give the whole record a listen and enjoy every minute of it. She's a really unique artist.
Even more so because prior to this she was a super wholesome teen bubblegum pop star. She was a big deal in Canada. So when this came out it was as if Mandy Moore got a bunch of piercings and joined Hole. Utterly shocking.
@@jaimemetcher388 Was Canada's answer to Paula Abdul, as she was pushed, and had a Gold and Platinum album up here, and then all hell broke loose with JLP, although you could see a sprinkling of what was to come on her second album.

For young females growing up in the 90s Alanis was like our voice. She allowed us to be pissed off and explicit and tell everybody to go f*** themselves because we had power. We will always owe her for that.
Born in 71. Total 80's metalhead. This song is great. So, she was literally on Nickelodeon in the show You Can't Do That On Television. Then she hit music... i was a senior in college when this dropped, and I was like "no way!" As an 80's metalhead, she has some good tunes.. but I remember her, and good for her!
Welcome to the world of Alanis. 😊 Her songs are full of amazing lyrics - I don't usually pay much attention to lyrics, so they are quite something. And the feeling she has on her voice is special. The whole Jagged Little Pill album is definitely worth listening to.👍
I grew up with her, my mother LOVED her and she would blast it all the time. I have a very distinct memory of us screaming this at the top of our lungs driving home from one of my visitation visits with my dad. *Gotta love the 90s 🤣 I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Much love from Arizona ❤️❤️
I agree with the people who spoke before me: The album "Jagged Little Pill" is a masterpiece. Not a single bad song on it and it you get a song for every mood you could be in. Alanis is one of the al time greats.
I LOVE watching people hear this song for the first time cause it's so jarring. I haven't watched the reaction yet but I bet you are going to be floored. CANT WAIT.
Jagged Little Pill, as previously commented, was indeed masterful. I also feel though, that subsequent albums are underrated. Check out Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie - Front Row, Baba, and Thank U (among a ton of other tracks). Under Rug Swept - 21 Things I Want in a Lover, Hands Clean, So Unsexy, Flinch, Narcissus, That Particular Time So-Called Chaos - 8 Easy Steps, So-Called Chaos, Spineless, Everything Feast on Scraps ...I mean, I love her so I could just name every one of her albums...
You Oughta Know, Hand in My Pocket and Ironic are her top 3 songs in 90s, not just an opinion. It's worth it to go down that rabbit hole portal. It will take you to the 90s when bands were trying to figure things out where to go next. a decade of "one hit wonders".. Alanis broke through and stood out.
I'm 65 years old and we go to a beach bar and one of our favorite bands does a great job on this song. The whole place is singing and dancing. What an awesome release it is.
The line "I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner" isn't random. It refers to when she called Dave Coulier, whom the song is about confirmed by Alanis, said she called him and he replied that he was in the middle of dinner and could they talk later.
I usually like reactions done by musicians, as they give their professional opinions and point of view. "normal" people , in general, don't really grabs my interest. But....Alex is amazing. The level of charisma you got man. The right on point and genuine comments. You got a fan here!!!
I picked up Jagged Little Pill more or less on a lark back in 1995 and god damn, did it change my life. It is song for song the best album I am aware of. Every song makes you think "Fuck yes!" when you hear the first few bars.
Just saw her, 2 days ago, in Vegas. She still sounds great! Thee song I couldn’t wait to hear, though, was “Uninvited”. Did not disappoint! That song was meant to be heard/seen, live. Incredible
This song always brings me back to my childhood. I was 12 goin onto 13 and was very attracted to Alanis. As many have stated, you can't really go wrong with the album of Jagged Little Pill. So many good hits on there. Little tidbit of info: she played God in the movie Dogma, featuring Jay and Silent Bob. It was awesome and hilarious to see that. Hilarious and great movie as well I'd highly recommend checking out with your fiance if you haven't seen it already.
I love how you went from calling yourself a hip hop head to a metalhead, 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻,we need more of us especially those who aren’t uncompromising douchebags like a lot of people in the metal scene. I’m sure you still love hip hop but happy you found a new love to add, and Mr. Video is great 👍🏻
Yeahhh! Alanis Morissette is pretty badass, and is still making music and touring! :) The funk in this song is definitely great too. Thanks for the video, Alex!
And they say Canadians are so quiet and polite! Alanis blew everyone out of the water with this album! Canada loves you, Alanis!!! Look for an acoustic version of this song and others on Howard Stern!!!
Alanis was my first concert without parental supervision in 1997, and my first concert mid pandemic celebrating the 25th anniversary of this amazing album. She's still got it, and rocks hard!
This was my favourite album of the 90s. I was a teen when this was released, and I still jam to every song on this album. A Canadian legend in my eyes.
Were you into "Original style" Alanis, who had both a Gold and Platinum album in Canada, before she was able to break away from being Canada's dance music diva?
@@toddstevens13 No I wasnt into it much, though I do remember hearing her earlier music, I would have been about 10 years old then, and wasn't into it much. I cant say that I really knew many of her earlier songs either.
SUCH a classic. Brings back so many memories. She just surprised P!nk’s audience in the last wk or 2 & showed up to sing it live. AH-mazing. Two bad azz women. Random- but if you’ve never heard Lauv’s ‘Modern Loneliness’… good stuff!! SUBSCRIBED😊 Stay safe & love big💖
I still have my original copy of this CD that I got in 1996. This album, and the two that follow are all masterful records. I'm so glad that she's starting to get more praise now days because she is truly a unique and top-tier talent.
Alanis has such a rich back catalogue - 'Jagged Little Pill' album is iconic. And a more recent release has literally made me cry every single time - 'Ablaze' from album 'Such Pretty Forks in the Road'
This vocal is also the first try she did in studio. They tried a few takes but none of them were as emotional and raw as this first take. You should definitely do a reaction to "You Learn" by her which was her attempt to deal with very serious trauma of being robbed at gunpoint. The emotion in that song is INSANE.
Jagged Little Pill was an absolute masterful album from start to finish.
Amen to that

I knew you wouldn't get past the first verse. Was not disappointed.
The whole Jagged Little Pill album is definitely worth listening to.👍
The great Alanis. Her voice is unique, also her style. She rocked the 90's. I love her! 💪🏻🥰
I grew up with her, my mother LOVED her and she would blast it all the time. I have a very distinct memory of us screaming this at the top of our lungs driving home from one of my visitation visits with my dad. *Gotta love the 90s 🤣
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Much love from Arizona ❤️❤️
I agree with the people who spoke before me: The album "Jagged Little Pill" is a masterpiece. Not a single bad song on it and it you get a song for every mood you could be in.
Alanis is one of the al time greats.
Alanis did a tribute song to Chester Bennington. Its called "Rest" please please check it out!
RIP Taylor...🥺 This song is incredible. I'm a metalhead and i bought this cd when i came it was so great.
Under Rug Swept - 21 Things I Want in a Lover, Hands Clean, So Unsexy, Flinch, Narcissus, That Particular Time
So-Called Chaos - 8 Easy Steps, So-Called Chaos, Spineless, Everything
Feast on Scraps ...I mean, I love her so I could just name every one of her albums...
Ironic and Hand In My Pocket, as well as Arms Of The Angel
You Oughta Know, Hand in My Pocket and Ironic are her top 3 songs in 90s, not just an opinion. It's worth it to go down that rabbit hole portal. It will take you to the 90s when bands were trying to figure things out where to go next. a decade of "one hit wonders".. Alanis broke through and stood out.
Arms of the Angel is Sarah McLachlin.
I'm 65 years old and we go to a beach bar and one of our favorite bands does a great job on this song. The whole place is singing and dancing. What an awesome release it is.
This song is timeless 🖤
Just saw her live in St. Louis on Saturday for the 25th anniversary of this album and the things that woman does with her voice is unreal!
That whole album is excellent. It includes the famous Ironic song.
The line "I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner" isn't random. It refers to when she called Dave Coulier, whom the song is about confirmed by Alanis, said she called him and he replied that he was in the middle of dinner and could they talk later.
Also, if you think today's music is explicit try 1930s Lucille Bogan's music. 😂😳
Anything from Jagged Little Pill is amazing!! I loved that album!!
when i found out flea recorded in this, i was instantly in love even more.. i currently cant stop playing jagged little pill
This album is a masterpiece. Another cool female you should check out: Fiona Apple - Tidal. 🖤
Definitely! Fiona's Tidal album is fantastic!
YASSSS!!!!
Alex: Aw I thought it was gonna come back jamming
Me: just give it a sec
As amazing as Alanis is, she's severely underrated.
Greatest he f****d me over song ever written! Alanis is a queen!
I just saw her live last week. She was absolutely amazing.
Madonna signed her to her record label Maverick that released this album. Icon to new Icon.
Jagged Little Pill I still listen to till this day.
Probably the greatest scorned lover track of all time
I love how you went from calling yourself a hip hop head to a metalhead, 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻,we need more of us especially those who aren’t uncompromising douchebags like a lot of people in the metal scene. I’m sure you still love hip hop but happy you found a new love to add, and Mr. Video is great 👍🏻
Yeahhh! Alanis Morissette is pretty badass, and is still making music and touring! :) The funk in this song is definitely great too. Thanks for the video, Alex!
I’ve been listening to Alanis since I was a kid, a lot of the subject matter went over my head 😂 I had no idea about the Flea and Dave thing tho!!
And they say Canadians are so quiet and polite! Alanis blew everyone out of the water with this album! Canada loves you, Alanis!!! Look for an acoustic version of this song and others on Howard Stern!!!
Saw her live last Saturday, good times
Alanis is just amazing 🙏🏻😍❤️
It baffles my mind that you've never heard this song haha. It's my go to karaoke jam! :)
It used to be mine too. 🤘🏻
Well how old is he 😅 lol
Alanis was my first concert without parental supervision in 1997, and my first concert mid pandemic celebrating the 25th anniversary of this amazing album. She's still got it, and rocks hard!
Check out "uninvited" by Alanis.. It has an awesome breakdown and the piano is nice
Is that the hidden track? That song is heartbreakingly good
This album is absolutely perfect. A pure distillation of its time, place, and culture.
You're a metalhead now! ❤️
Alex you should react to new Skillet's brand new song Surviving The Game
Anaal Nathrakh-In the constellation of the black widow
SUCH a classic. Brings back so many memories. She just surprised P!nk’s audience in the last wk or 2 & showed up to sing it live. AH-mazing. Two bad azz women.
Random- but if you’ve never heard Lauv’s ‘Modern Loneliness’… good stuff!!
SUBSCRIBED😊
Stay safe & love big💖
The whole damn album!! 🔥🔥
I still have my original copy of this CD that I got in 1996. This album, and the two that follow are all masterful records. I'm so glad that she's starting to get more praise now days because she is truly a unique and top-tier talent.
It's aimed at her ex, who portrayed Uncle Joey on Full House
Alanis has such a rich back catalogue - 'Jagged Little Pill' album is iconic. And a more recent release has literally made me cry every single time - 'Ablaze' from album 'Such Pretty Forks in the Road'
Dude you should listen to the whole jagged little pill album it's awesome, not a bad song on there
This vocal is also the first try she did in studio. They tried a few takes but none of them were as emotional and raw as this first take. You should definitely do a reaction to "You Learn" by her which was her attempt to deal with very serious trauma of being robbed at gunpoint. The emotion in that song is INSANE.
