@Protus Mose- yes it is. It reminds me of my little brother that passed away at just 13. The grief I felt was unbearable. This song describes much of how I felt. Amazing song.

Yahoo used to air live concerts and years ago they did one for Offspring's show and they literally played the Smash album front to back it was awesome!

The lead singer, Bryan "Dexter" Holland is an actual mathematics genius. He was the valedictorian at a very large high school in CA, and has a PhD in molecular biology from USC, and his doctoral thesis that concentrated on the HIV virus was titled "Identification of Human MicroRNA-Like Sequences Embedded within the Protein-Encoding Genes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus". He's also an accomplished pilot who did a 10-day around the world flight. He's definitely not some brain dead lead singer without any prospects after his musical career ends, and he and the rest of the band have been smart enough with their money to not need to work on anything that they don't want to work on. It's quite a rarity in music.

The Offspring were supposed to co headline a festival in my city and the headliner dropped out and went to cancel the entire show. The Offspring stepped up and put the show on for free. They are good dudes.
This and "The kids aren't Alright" shows how introspective this Punk Rock Band really is.
The way he says "Right?!" at the suffering shows you really care really sounds to me like he's trying to justify his actions to himself.
I love the line "I may be dumb, but I'm not a dweeb/I'm just a sucker with no self esteem"
Soooo many great songs from them! “you’re gonna go far, kid”, “original prankster”, “want you bad”, “why don’t you get a job?”, “pretty fly for a white guy”, “can’t repeat”, among soooooo many others. There’s a reason they’re considered a legend among punk bands.

On his voice “not trying” its not really deiberate, but this is a little older Offspring - its rough asf round the edges and it fits their style perfectly.

I think my favorite offspring album is probably Days Gone By
This song makes me think about my early teenage years where I was depressed and I was bullied a lot and after school I would go to my room and start up my slow computer and listen to music by myself to vibe out m. This song made me feel like I wasn’t alone as I was in a similar situation up with many reoccurrences until I was 28. When I saw Offspring twice this was the final song both times and I screamed out every word. Sorry to the people next to me

There needs to be one comment suggesting "Come Out And Play" instead of a hundred that each have 5-10 likes. That one and "Self-Esteem" are the two songs that kicked off their popularity when they arrived.
A few years later, a big hit with "Pretty Fly For a White Guy," and then I don't know anything else by them. They may have a hundred other great songs, but those three are the ones that are very well known from radio/video play. Like... people that don't even want to follow The Offspring know the three big ones.
Listening to the Offspring is how I learned how to play bass by ear! Love it!

Gone Away reminds me of my husband who passed away and loved the Offspring. The singer is a USC graduate - very intelligent.

"No Hero" and "Jennifer Lost the War" are a couple of ultra rad songs from their old school albums. "Slim Pickens Does the Right Thing and Rides the Bomb to Hell" is a fantastic one of their songs from this past decade.
They also have a new album dropping in 2021, so be ready to get to hear their stuff new.

Yep another 90's smash!!! It was everywhere!!! Just part of our jams while riding in the car, sitting at the house and it was on heavy rotation on MTV! MTV used to work like a radio station. Only difference, you watched the videos! I kept my TV on 24/7 on it! It used to be the best thing on television! I LOVED IT!!!!! Today everything sucks!!!!!! No MTV, no good music, no nothing!!! We truly had good back then! You guys have NO IDEA HOW GOOD!!!!
