If you want to see them “sing an instrument” watch their rendition of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”. A song without words sung by a band without instruments. And the editing is amazing. They won their second Grammy for it.
Yes to both. As a testament to how wonderful this group is and to their talent, not just musically but with their arrangements as well, I'd suggest "12 Days of Christmas" and "Little Drummer Boy." You can save them for next holiday season if you like. Neither song was a favorite of mine. In fact, I'd skip those tracks on albums because the lack of appeal was so utter and complete. Until the Pentatonix version...now they're playlist items. I'd also suggest "Hallelujah," "Sound of Silence," "Say Something..." Come to think of it just pick anything by Pentatonix. None of it's bad! LOL
"This guy right here" is Avi Kaplan. He is an outstanding singer and bass. Check out Ring of Fire cover by Home Free featuring Avi to see his incredible range.
Please Do Hallelujah and The Sound of Silence by them. You could even try both live and video of Hallelujah! They are so impressive! They are awesome and so are you!!!
The Daft Punk mash up is phenomenal & is on a par with this for complexity but the speed they change at is just miraculously fast and gives it a whole new perspective too !!!! I thought that was the case. Everytime someone tries to imitate, they get pretty close to making the same sound. So Mitch should be able to do it just fine.
My cousin toured with them as a stage manager. Awesome group. Home free is another great accapella group that has covers of ring of fire and man of constant sorrow.
Hip Hop eh? I suggest you react to PTX version of Macklemore's 'Can't Hold Us' next, it is upbeat and amazing. Then try Hallelujah (Cohen), Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkle), Imagine (Lennon), Gold (Kiara), Amazing Grace, Mary Did You Know, etc. Do the occasional PTX and your fan base will grow substantially as a result. Mitch (lead singer in this song) and Scott (tall blonde) have a separate group called Superfruit. Once again, hip hop, try their version of Anti Medley (Rihanna), I'm Feeling Myself (Minaj) or Hip Hop Goes Broadway I and II. The woman is named Kirstin and has a beautiful voice; she leads in Say Something (Aguilera) and Be My Eyes (PTX). The bass is Avi; he left the group and was replaced by Matt. Both are extremely talented with different and beautiful voices. The beatboxer is Kevin and he is probably the most singular talented individual you may every experience; he plays cello, beatboxes, plays saxophone, speaks fluent Chinese and much more. React to his solo version of Down (Hill). Scott the tall blonde is extremely versatile; check out his solo of 'I Should Tell Ya Momma On Ya' (Red).
Not to forget their original songs just to really shake up the mood on occasion 'Run to you' and 'Love Again' - the Bass (or Basso Profundo to be accurate) in this is Avi Kaplan - he was the original Bass with Kevin the Beat Boxer who gave the richness of the low notes here - Scott (the tall blonde) is also a Baritone and would swap out with Avi on occasion when Avi was singing in his higher register. Matt is the new Bass in the group (there was an amicable spilt a few years ago). Avi does have his own music now - which is awesome too
The guy with the beard quit a few years back and found them a replacement as he had to look after his sick mum but now does solo stuff you should check out there "dance of the sugar plum fairy" from the Nutcracker they won Grammy from it !
That would be September 2017 so 3 years ago and he was there as a founding member through 6 years and 3 grammies so he is in a whole bunch of their most well known videos.
Other great Pentatonix songs are their covers of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, Imagine by John Lennon, and The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. Also, their Daft Punk Medley will blow your mind.
Mitch does the guitar solo live without a megaphone and it sounds exactly the same! Also, one of the members of Queen endorsed this when it came out and gave them a shout-out!
PTX is amazing!!! Daft Punk Medley, Hallelujah, Come Along, and The Sound of Silence are all great ones to maybe check out next, but their catalogue of covers and originals is huge and totally worth diving into.
Seeing them so this live is an experience. It sounds even better! Mitch didn’t even need the megaphone for the guitar solo. They did it as an encore a couple of tours ago. So fantastic!!!
Duuuuuude it makes me so happy that you checked them out! They've been my favorite band for a while now and the guy singing bass is actually not in the band anymore, he has a solo career too. His name is Avi Kaplan and I think you would love to react to his music, it is full of soul and blues and rock and it's some of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard! And check the rest of PTX as well, they're awesome 🤟🤟🤟

Oh, that wasn't simple. It was sheer expertise that made it look simple. That set had moving elements and lighting, etc. It reminds me of a swan ... serene and perfect, with feet out of sight paddling like heck. :D
You should check out one of Avi Kaplan ( the deeeep bass. ) solo song, he can also sing. He left Pentatonix a while ago so you might want to also check out one of their more recent song to hear the "new" member.
If you wanna see more Pentatonix, they’ve done a lot of covers, Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy was pretty good, they also did a Daft Punk mashup which I highly recommended checking out along with Radioactive and a heap of others.
Yep. This my first time hearing them do other music. Loved this cover. This song takes me back to my Queen discovery at about 5 years old. The song was already a classic (early 1980's) . Watching Freddy sing it on television was amazing. Unfortunately, he died before I could see him live.
I was in choir to when i was at primary school. You rock dude! Pentatonix Rule! I love them. Fave song of theirs has to be One more time mix up or the wizard of AAaaahhhs with Toddy.

If you haven't heard it, I'd recommend reacting to their Can't Hold Us cover. Also, a side note, the couch is a reference to the videos they made before they got popular. A Cappella group singing Sugar Plum Fairy (with no words) and winning a Grammy.
The Classic Pentatonix song that got them attention back in the day was “Daft Punk”. You’ve gotta give it a listen man.
Definitely
And a Grammy if I'm not mistaken. And it was all recorded (literally) in a closet with close to zero budget.
$400, if I'm correct.
Seconded (actually I think I'm forth but in complete agreement). I think you'll love it
Their evolution of music was before that though
"This guy right here" is Avi Kaplan. He is an outstanding singer and bass. Check out Ring of Fire cover by Home Free featuring Avi to see his incredible range.
I prefer his song "Change on the Rise" or "It Knows Me", but the "Ring of Fire" cover was pretty good as well.
His songs "I'll get by" and "Change on the rise" about both fantastic.
Yes, I do too, but this cane to mind first as an example of his full multi octave range.
I love that song
