  • I test the 2020 onwards Hyundai i20 to see whether it's worth buying over strong competition such as the Skoda Fabia and Renault Clio.

Spot on summary Alex 👍🏻 my Ioniq was in for a service about a month ago and my loan car was a Bayon (which I think is basically the same as the i20). I thought it was a bit basic when I first sat in it, but as the miles went on it grew on me.
The seats were comfortable, engine and DCT gearbox were ok, wireless CarPlay was great and it was way roomier for 3 adults than I expected!
We did about 100 miles in it and I thought the economy would be better tbh. I reset the mpg figure when collecting the car and when I returned it the average was about 47mpg. That was mostly all at 60mph on A and B roads with very little urban use.
I did once have a loan Kona with the same engine but the manual gearbox - the manual was definitely more responsive than the DCT, and I don’t recall it being too bad to shift, but the auto was easier to drive.
It’s funny you compared it to the Clio as I had a loan one of those earlier this year when our Scenic was in for a service! The interior of the Clio was far nicer than the Hyundai, I drove the Clio over 100 miles too (on a similar route and speeds) and the Clio returned about 55mpg from its 1.0tce.
Hard to pick which is best, the i20/Bayon wins hands down on space, equipment and warranty, but the Clio definitely had it beat for Style, interior quality and economy 🙂

They’re both great cars. It really depends on how important your priorities are, but in the majority cases, I think the Clio has the edge on the Hyundai

I've got the current i20n and would love to try one of these, we don't get the i20 in Australia, so I thoroughly enjoyed your review, thank you 😊

From what I’ve read, the I20N is a great car with lots of grip and a punchy engine. Hope you’re enjoying life with it

@@ontheroadwithalex_official hahaha to say I'm crazy about my little i20n is an understatement, it's got so much personality and attitude 😊😊😊. Thanks for reviewing its little brother and I hope we get them here again in the future 🤞🤞🤞
