Ego Multi-Tool Review

  • The Ego Multitool is an exceptional machine for the home garden.
Essentially it is a power head which is powered by a rechargeable battery that is also able to be switched into Ego's mowers and other products. There are three sizes of battery and even the smallest one didn't die after doing 650m2 of edging and trimming. When the battery does stop, it is a quick recharge.... however I doubt with a home garden needing a recharge will ever be an issue.
The lawn edger is great. Best I've used! The hedger is a great tool but it can get weighty on bigger jobs. The trimmer is powerful but you loose the pcowerload feature on the pcowerload trimmer because the motor is in the head part of the tool, still a great trimmer. The cultivator is great and demonstrates the power of the electric motor to move earth - not an easy task. The pole saw is fantastic and getting the power saw or hedge trimmer kit gets you the extension pole which believe me is very handy. I haven't used the brush cutter yet but I would expect that to be a breeze.
The backpack battery holder is useful if you want to use the largest battery to save a bit of weight at the tool however unless you are on the one tool for a larger job, I doubt you'd need this.. It made having the backpack extension needed to be taken off so I could get to the attachment part of the tool. A bit cumbersome and messy but just might be the thing if you want the weight off the tool. I don't think I would use it much for my situation.
This is the best multitool I have used and I have used a few over the years. You cannot discount that it is quieter than petrol and the fatigue through vibration is less, this machine is smooth. You can see why battery tools are increasingly popular and for good reason.

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I wish they'd sell more kits, with a price cut if you get a few attachments. The battery/charger is just a huge blow to the wallet and any way to come down on price would be good. A 5.0 Ah battery and charger go for around $300.

You can also use the hedge trimmer, with correct adjustment, for large area whipper snippering / brush cutting. especially on slops. And you can use multiple extensions for more height. Unwieldy, but possible.

i just recently bought into the EGO range with a mower trimmer and blower and wish i had gone with the multi tool with trimmer and edger head as i’m not great at using the trimmer for edging. the multi tool with the additional heads would have been a lot more expensive though and to be honest i only have about 15lm of edging to do so i probably should just practice more 😂

That's what I found out, it works out way more expensive for a multi-tool with the attachments than buying dedicated ego stuff...... (especially because their dedicated stuff is always on big specials, which is great but just shows how overpriced the attachments really are)
Plus the sizing limitations / options with the multi-tool attachments is just crappy. So with pricing and this it really is a killer.

One quick question can you do a review on how deep the cultivator can go. You only did the surface, I am just worried about not getting deep enough to cultivate the soil

    • @lawnporn
      @lawnporn  4 роки тому

I haven't tried it with deep gardening job. I have a masport cultivator which is a bit more specialised and heavy weight would obviously go a bit deeper. I will in future be needing to do some deeper works so I'll make sure I film that. Sorry I don't have the answer for that at this time.

When you get free stuff and sponsored by a company, you really can't say anything bad or you lose sponsorship. With free stuff you don't get buyers remorse and the fact that it is just handed to you without a loss to the pocket book, makes one complacent and can't really say if it was worth the money. the review was done well but I feel those 2 reasons are enough to discount any real test and flaws a real buyer would talk about. This is the world we live in now, where everyday people make reviews and become a tool to these companies and really get handcuffed because they will lose if they say anything bad about the product.

    • @lawnporn
      @lawnporn  4 роки тому +6

Thanks for the comments. Appreciate it.
The items were supplied free but I am not sponsored by Ego.
Yes, companies give me stuff to review. Sometimes it’s free. Sometimes it’s a borrow (Allett C24) and sometimes it is a purchase (MowMaster R22W).
I don’t always accept offers due to many reasons but mainly the strings that are attached.
I try and keep it to what people may be interested in rather than just doing reviews for review sake.
I’m pretty keen on the Ego stuff, so I approached them on this occasion if we could review stuff for them and they agreed.
Just for the record, I don’t accept payment for reviews or comments and I only take stuff on for a review so long as I get to say what I like or dislike about the item.
Your comments of “the world we live in now” are completely valid and unfortunately I have been in that trap before. Not that the company I was involved were bad but it stopped me doing other items which I felt lessened the value of what I was doing for the Lawnporn community, so I ended both those relationships. Naive at the time I accepted them but I was pretty new at the UA-cam thing at the time.
I’m not in that position anymore thankfully.
So no matter what I review, whatever I say about it doesn’t really change anything for me personally.
I try and present the product as best and with a balanced view as I can.
Thank you for your comments still.
      Regards.

I am an authorized Dealer in the USA, Orlando/Florida and the equipment is extremely well manufactured, powerful and reliable...
Most issues as to failure is User Problem, not reading or following instructions shown on the manuals, My recommendation
is always refer, use and take advantage of manuals, before taking unit for unneeded service. Battery power equipment is sort of a Newer technology and useful, environmental friendly and reliable.

Edger is awesome (I have it) but I don't love the aluminum line trimmer (seems to lack a bit of power in some areas). Thing I hate is it has worked out BLOODY expensive for a multi-tool and edger because NONE of their attachments are ever on special and their fool size dedicated ones are (and very often), so it ends up CHEAPER to buy dedicated ones..... plus there is way more choice in sizing etc, so very disappointment overall.
The attachments should be a lot cheaper than they are.

My only complaint with the multitool is I don't know if it's my height(5'7") or what but cannot find a position to use the edger where it doesn't destroy my upperback and shoulder. I do have the shoulder strap so that helped. The power level is unreal though!

If you look at every ego attachment for the multi head you'll never see.
The the roto scissors. Why is that they don't think it's important. You could look far and wide and never see it. Lowes doesn't carry it Nobody refused it. I was interested in getting it.
I bought something on Amazon. Never worked because the gears didn't meet properly with the to. Many attempthat's why I wanted it as a total unit of my multi head I think the advantages are doesn't Post a thread of stones and other objects being thrown around like it would be with the string trimmer and you could edge right up to the area you wanna cut The only place you could find it is.

I'm a pro landscaper and I used both the Ego and Ryobi 5a systems, they both have a longway to catch up to fuel systems, Allthough ok for city dwellers. The backpack system is handy when you do a long hedging or pruning. In all the commercial line of Ego is realy a semi and def not for heavy applications, not worth it if you're a tradie!

  • @crustyoldfart

For me he seemed to be a bit half-hearted in performing these tests. No clever insights or suggestions for how to make these tools easier to use.
Myself I have an EGO lawnmower which uses a 7.5 Ah battery, which for economic reasons I use with the weed trimmer. The combination is too heavy for me to use comfortably [ I'm in my late 80's ] and find that a shoulder strap [ also supplied by EGO ] to make a huge difference. I find I have to maintain a straight back while wearing the strap which means I have to lean back away from the work and swing the thing from side to side along the work area. BTW I believe it's easier to work L-R along the ground area. He seemed to prefer R-L no doubt because he is in the southern hemisphere LOL.
I have not tried any of the other gadgets on display, but might try the back-pack battery carrier since I have the heavy battery.
The cultivator looks a bit flimsy to me, and doubt if it would be much good in either wet loam or rock-hard dry stuff.
In general I think EGO type tools is the way of the future.

I've looked into these systems, and they are all unimpressive. Milwaukee burns up, EGO's battery dies early, and Dewalt they only have a trimmer that's worth anything. So I went and got ECHO PAS system with edger and trimmer. It's been a few months and I mow 4 property consistantly every other week. I'm still on the first gallon of gas(tru-fuel). It might take me a year to finish a gallon. The system was 329, the gas 25 dollars. So for about 400 dollars you get pretty much the basics minus the mower. I have nothing against battery, I use milwaukee's Blower, and the Ryobi's edger, just havent found the right system to invest into yet. And no, I'm not going to spend a thousand dollar on a mower. LOL.
