Hi you have to add the tool you want to attach, plus the multi head and the battery all together. I don't have access now sorry, check the ego website, they list the weight in their manuals.
Tried to read and didn’t yet see if there was a final answer on attachments that are only available for with the new head. I don’t know about the new trimmer head, but tech description of the upcoming brush cutter attachment: Exclusively compatible with EGO POWER+ Multi-Head System Power Head PH1420 As a side note, I know it’s likely a safety thing but I do wish I could lock it on rather than holding the button all the time. Sometimes it’s a long reach with the bush trimmer.
It works with the old PH1400. Ego wants you to use the new PH1420 for a few reasons: increased safety on the battery connections, the safer trigger, the slightly imperfect fiddling you have to do to connect the BCA1220 at the quick release (have to rotate the blade a bit sometimes), and actually the PH1420 has a 15% stronger motor.
I know this is an old video but I've been thinking of getting one of these so i can convert the trimmer attachment to a "Power Rotary Scissors" landscaping blade and also pick up the snow shovel attachment.
@@TechMadeEzy it was actually a little tricky... I'm in the UK and I had to read through quite a few different websites until I found one with the FULL specifications, I also managed to speak with a local dealer who confirmed it with me. So yeah this thing should have tons of power! Sadly it's not available until early March here.
Will the MST1603 string trimmer work with the older multi head? For some reason i thought only the new multi head supported the power load feature. Do you know?
Great video. Super useful to learn about the new power head (PH1420) and the new trimmer. I just ordered the MST1503 using your link. Do you know whether there is an extension pole similar to the EP7500 that will work with the PH1420?
I'd like to know when and if the stand alone 16" string trimmer attachment will be available, and most importantly - is it compatible with the old multi-head system?
So the old one is a tiny bit less powerful and a tiny bit lighter? The edger and power head ph1400 is $10 cheaper than the ph1420 by oneself.. I want to use this mainly for hedge trimming though
We own the old model, but our has a totally different handle. Also with a quick release. And there is an also a part on the shaft where you can attach a strap. We have the tool since a few days and it was all in all the best deal as a kit. With a 2.5Ah and a 4.0Ah battery included. And the new tool is not that available at the moment. Nice comparison thx. UPDATE: actually every order over 899€ gets that 4.0Ah battery in Germany at the moment. But still our deal was better.
I don't understand the weight test. Was one 5.15 lbs and the second 5.24 lbs? That is more that a pound diff. Quite a lot! Please advise us. Thanks. Otherwise, good video.
the biggest upgrade is the ability to add a strap if you own the bigger battery. the old model didn't have this and this was a deal breaker for me as I have 10ah battery from the 2-stage snowblower. now with the strap included, I can buy it and not worry about weight distribution and back problems. also, you cannot buy, for now, the new MST1603 string trimmer buy itself. you have to buy the whole kit which is a bummer for someone who already own batteries and see no use for more. hopefully they'll release it soon by itself.
When did you buy yours? I bought the MHC1501 in 2021, mfd in Aug 2020, and I can put a clip-on strap on it. The head it came with is labeled STA1500 but comes with the older AH1530 head, the one without the load line marker. But the new string head (because of the shaft) is still labeled as STA1500 as a standalone product. I went through 3 support calls who didn't know the difference until I gave up on getting the info I wanted. The batteries do go after a couple years of weekly use, so not a bad idea to get a new one. You'll notice the runtime difference between a new and 4yo battery. Just have to get rid of the old ones properly.
@@mikeb9830jpchi finally bought a MST1603 kit this Spring with the bristle brush and sold the battery + charger. already had 2x10ah from the snowblower. the strap was included but I find it a nuisance more than anything.
That new model (essentially the MST1603) really sounded like it had marbles in the shaft. It didn't sound as smooth as the old one. Not sure if it's a sign of an issue.
Serious question… after watching this video why would I move to a carbon shaft if it weighs more than the aluminum? I thought it would weigh less and that would be the reason to move to it. Thoughts?
I like to trigger improvement and the variable speed definitely seems to have more range. My recommendation if you have the original keep it there’s no need to upgrade but if you’re a new user, that would be the one I would get but the problem right now if it’s new and it’s not in any of the kits. And you know the rule if you’re going to buy ego, you need to make sure you’re buying the kit with batteries and chargers.
It would of be nicer if you would teach us how to put the handle on the stick but thanks anyways... i paused it and figure it out how you had it.. plus the videos was great overall.. great job
I was waiting for the new one but broke down and purchased the original and was pleasantly surprised. The new model may be better but not sure how. Also it seems to have a variable speed. Love your show ..thanks

I'm not dying for an upgrade but would like to on that front but if all im getting is a metal auger or heated grips and propeller assist, it's not worth it YET anyway. Love my Gen 1 single stage :) Keep up the good work

Tried to read and didn’t yet see if there was a final answer on attachments that are only available for with the new head. I don’t know about the new trimmer head, but tech description of the upcoming brush cutter attachment:
Exclusively compatible with EGO POWER+ Multi-Head System Power Head PH1420
As a side note, I know it’s likely a safety thing but I do wish I could lock it on rather than holding the button all the time.
Thanks for this review man!
Thanks JC
Regarding the motor specs the new one is 2.3kw (2300 watts) hence the slight increase in weight.
Wow, very cool I don’t know how you got that but you did so thank you
@@TechMadeEzy it was actually a little tricky... I'm in the UK and I had to read through quite a few different websites until I found one with the FULL specifications, I also managed to speak with a local dealer who confirmed it with me. So yeah this thing should have tons of power! Sadly it's not available until early March here.
Ok thanks
The older version has a 2000w. So if we are correct with the numbers it’s 15% gain
@@robertveres6735 yeah that's right, I finally got mine a coupe weeks ago. It's super powerful! Also much more responsive trigger which I really like.
Hi there, where in Australia can I get this system.
Hi not sure, do you have amazon there ? If not contact ego they should be able to confirm
is Battery sold separately ? How long it last for continue using after fully charged. ? is battery warranty for 5 years too ? thanks
You can buy kits with battery or tool only, batteries for this unit would be a 3-year warranty
Will the MST1603 string trimmer work with the older multi head? For some reason i thought only the new multi head supported the power load feature. Do you know?
I believe so but I'm not sure. If I had it I would test it for you definitely check with ego here's their phone number (855) 346-5656
It will not. Carbon fiber string trimmer compatible with newer 1420 only
Great video. Super useful to learn about the new power head (PH1420) and the new trimmer. I just ordered the MST1503 using your link. Do you know whether there is an extension pole similar to the EP7500 that will work with the PH1420?
Mark thank you
That I'm not aware of your best bet might be contacting ego here is their number I hope it helps (855) 346-5656
@@TechMadeEzy Thanks. That number does not seem to be working for the last couple of days.
It is a working number but maybe the lines were busy?
I'd like to know when and if the stand alone 16" string trimmer attachment will be available, and most importantly - is it compatible with the old multi-head system?
Good questions we will all find out at some point
TOTAL HELP, THANKS, WILL BUY THE ORIGINAL FOR $50 less :}
Hi thanks
The newer model was slightly heavier
What I meant of course was 6.24 for the newer unit. That's over a pound more than the older unit at 5.15 lbs. Quite a difference I would say!
Agree
Will the new head work with attachments from other manufacturers multihead tools?
No
@@TechMadeEzy thanks for the answer. Really too bad they made this proprietary instead of using the standard.
the biggest upgrade is the ability to add a strap if you own the bigger battery. the old model didn't have this and this was a deal breaker for me as I have 10ah battery from the 2-stage snowblower. now with the strap included, I can buy it and not worry about weight distribution and back problems.
also, you cannot buy, for now, the new MST1603 string trimmer buy itself. you have to buy the whole kit which is a bummer for someone who already own batteries and see no use for more. hopefully they'll release it soon by itself.
You need this it’s a back saver
ua-cam.com/video/QHS20WFTBQ0/v-deo.html
Hi, when is the new ones coming out? Thanks
That is the new one
I do not see these in the stores. I am referring to the one you can add attachments to them. Where are they selling ? Thanks,
Ace hardware lowes and online also
Makes me wonder why they didn’t put variable speed in the 2 stage blower. Would be nice to inch it ahead slowly! Another great review as always bro!!
Thanks AJ
@@TechMadeEzy always!
? The SNT2405? It has both auger and drive speed controls. Do you mean a different one?
That new model (essentially the MST1603) really sounded like it had marbles in the shaft. It didn't sound as smooth as the old one. Not sure if it's a sign of an issue.
marbles? I didn’t hear that
@@TechMadeEzy OK, I agree marbles that was a bit extreme. It just didn't sound as smooth as the older one, but I'm sure it's fine.
@rkgsd I hear you, so far no issues 👍🏼
Serious question… after watching this video why would I move to a carbon shaft if it weighs more than the aluminum? I thought it would weigh less and that would be the reason to move to it. Thoughts?
I like to trigger improvement and the variable speed definitely seems to have more range.
My recommendation if you have the original keep it there’s no need to upgrade but if you’re a new user, that would be the one I would get but the problem right now if it’s new and it’s not in any of the kits. And you know the rule if you’re going to buy ego, you need to make sure you’re buying the kit with batteries and chargers.
Thank you for the guidance
After watching this video you can see he didn't weigh it properly
Are either of these part of the MST1603 combo kit?
Interesting but from what I see that combo kit includes the current powerhead and no the new one ph1420
@@TechMadeEzy looks like the new ph1420
You might be right, it does.
Thanks
You will need the new powerhead if you want the powerload function on the new string trimmer.
I'm disappointed that carbon fiber version is 1lb heavier that my (previous) version. Like the battery interface and variable speed control better tho'.
5 lb 15.2oz vs 6 lb 2.4oz. Math aint mathing.
No, it's 3.2 oz heavier. Not to bad. Not sure it's worth trading.
@@CowsGoMonkey correct
Is the PH1420 compatible with the old tool attachments?
I haven't had any issues so far
What about the EP7500 extension pole? Will that work with the PH1420?
Great vid. I was thinking of getting the new one. Just an FYI equipment is spelled wrong at the beginning where the text is saying its not a sponsored vid. Otherwise great vid!
Thank you! Darn editing team, I have to let them go 😊
Oh wait, that's me! Lol thanks seriously
Does the new unit have power connectors for a future power load trimmer head down at the connection point?
Not sure I understand your question
@TechMadeEzy are there electrical contact points in the socket end of the new one that aren't present on the old one
No changes to the tool end or the battery end except the way the designed the cover for the battery connectors that I showed.
If you search "machinery nation" they have a video of 2023 Ego gear including the new multitool. There are two contact points at the end of the head because the new strimmer head now has power load. Hope that helps.
@@TechMadeEzy This appears to be inaccurate, please see below.
Will we be able to buy the IQ feed string attachment with the PH1420 head unit?
Not that I’ve seen at this time. Speed IQ is sold as a tool but not multi head compatible
The old model is varible speed two
Hi the Website doesn't say it but as you saw in the testing I did experience it some. Not as full of a range as the ph1420
Could I ask where you purchased it at. I have looked all over for it. Do you know if Lowe's is going to handle it?
Launching soon
Thanks
Does the EGO Multi Head Model PH1420 & PH1400 work with all the same Attachments?
Yes
Multi head vs regular weed Wacker?
I’m ordering the regular as it’s adjustable in length. I worry about longevity with a multi head as well
I have most of the attachments but find they are getting increasingly heavier, therefore not so enjoyable to use. It could be it's because I've just had an 80th birthday. Everything is getting heavy.
Good review, Ego are the better tool.
Michael thank you
I totally understand, ever thought about using the backpack link ? It will move the weight of the battery onto your back

@@TechMadeEzy Thanks for that, but I'm already married.
Then make your wife happy and be happy as well 😊
How does this power head compare tonthe stihl kma135?
Few reports of the carbon shafts breaking...stick with the metal one.
Did you mean 5.15 pounds?
Previous model yes, I put it on the screen also, newer model 6.24
@ definitely getting the ego entire set
I hope you enjoy and I hope it works well for you
Nice vid homie. Being a Gen 1 multi head owner, me personally wouldn't upgrade unless mine breaks OR the Gen 2 has a more powerful motor. Is there any info on that front? Torque? That is what I would like to see. Same with the single stage snow blowers. 3 models, did they upgrade the motors in those as well? I'm not dying for an upgrade but would like to on that front but if all im getting is a metal auger or heated grips and propeller assist, it's not worth it YET anyway. Love my Gen 1 single stage :)
Keep up the good work
No torque or specs available yet and honestly, EGO doesn't always disclose that type of info. We will see, yeah I would agree, stick with Gen 1
Their attachments are way to expensive
Once you go carbon you don't go back
Why didn't you weigh it properly and accurately?
What was done wrong?
👍👍
this no way too compare weight LOL.
U didn’t say the price. It’s 179.00
@@TechMadeEzy. I did watch the whole video. I swear u only said the aluminum shaft price. 149.00. Not the carbon.
I’ll have to check that, I will apologize in advance, let me review that now. Pricing idea is $169 $179 again my apologies
@@Coffeeismyhappyplace i watched, yup didn’t state that and I was planning to. I feel like a …:

Ok 👍🏼
The Ego ph1400 real junk! 15 minute working and died….
When is ego, going to make a decent pole Saw that doesn't have the chain fall off every few minutes And lock up and burns out the motor
Haven't had mine burn out but the chain flying off is such a PITA and i have no idea why it happens, considering my 2 other electric corded saws dont do it, my 1 corded pole saw doesn't, and my 3 old gas saws don't either. what on gods green earth did ego do/design to fail a tried/true system of simply sawing wood is beyond me.
