My 10’x14’ shed is just over halfway complete and it has cost $7000 thus far. By the time I’m finished, with the LP siding, 30 year shingle roof, $1000 for two 30 year guaranteed Milgard windows all dressed in black, hardwood floors, a portable cubic mini grizzly wood burning stove and interior cladding for the walls with rock wool insulation, it should come to just under $9000, and it’s totally portable with temporary electrical via a built in 20 amp extension cord.
@ 100 years ago here in the Pacific Northwest logging companies would move employees into the woods via their trains. On many of the flatbed rail, cars were tiny sheds built on skids, being that they had what was the equivalent of skis underneath them, they could be slid around fromworksite to work site with ease. This was the impetus for my design, and my inspiration. I can basically move the tiny shed anywhere in the United States and live wherever I please, and then I can build a new house while living out of the shed.
@@justindeclemente1130 thanks for the clarification. "Portable shelter is now defined as a structure that is...to provide shelter and is readily collapsible, folds, or disassembles for transport. • Portable shelters, like the canvas/nylon collapsible and sled-style shelters, do not need to be licensed when they are occupied/attended. • Shelters that do not meet the definition of a portable shelter, such as camper-type shelters, need to be licensed." I'll build one of these portable shelters so I can avoid the county guvmint goons. thanks
I loved every bit of this video until the very end. $100K for what is essentially a shipping container seems ridiculous and that price does not include delivery, let alone site-prep, utilities, etc. It is nice, but I can't believe they sell even a single one for that price. Just incredible.
I am firmly in the anti-loft camp. First thing that pops into my mind = what if i hurt my ankle/knee or even break a wrist or arm? That loft is only practically when you are in nearly perfect health and while you are young. As soon as any sort of health concern crops up you couldn't stay there and then you have a large waste of space in the home/cabin... And that doesn't even begin to talk about how that ladder is clearly in your way to use that little kitchen area as you demonstrated
@@Agameda1 you mean moved to one side so that it's still in the way then when you turn around you have to slide it back the other direction... That's not convenient that's just annoying. Better solution are the places where you can take the ladder and hang it on a wall rack. But even that doesn't solve all the other problems of not being able to crawl up and down the ladder if you have any health related problems or even if you just have an upset stomach and you need to run back and forth o the bathroom several times in a night. The place is cute but bedroom lofts are inherently problematic for anything more than a short term stay
Loft beds with low ceiling are very hard to change the sheets on. Can you imagine many housekeepers going up there, and somehow getting to the far side of the mattress to tuck in the fitted sheet?
I live in a camper. I am a witness to that problem. It's a pain making bed! One other problem too!!! The mattress crawls off end end of side. What a pain!, Don't buy one! You end up with boxes stacked everywhere. Your summer clothes in winter or your winter clothes in summer. Where do you put them? What about if something breaks? On campers you have to take them in.
The bigger problem with lofts is double occupancy. Sex is impaired as your selection of partners will be. Sleeping is impaired because anything you need involves waking your partner.
This loft spatial arrangement has issues. Placement of skylight is another. Placement of refer is another issue. Too low. Clerestory Windows would reduce cave like closed in feeling.
I love it. I’ve done camping in a small trailer so I can do it…..but not the loft…nope. I’d do a Murphy bed on the main floor. I love the bathroom. I could live like that on the right property. Thanks for the video.
This is absolutely perfect for a 1 or 2 night stay or for a get away cabin in the woods. Not liking the width (10') or the loft height/ladder situation. The website has a better/bigger model available (the Duo). Price seems kinda high and then you have to add in all the lot prep/permits/hook-ups and delivery which might be a deal breaker.
Like your video, don’t care for the home. I use the bathroom at night and although loft sleeping is cozy, but awakening well enough to safely negotiating the ladder, lights on, back up to bed 1-3 times a night, I prefer autopilot with a bathroom on the same floor as the sleeping area.
I live in a country where everyone uses mini splits because they are very energy efficient. If you have a cover, you need to be careful the external sensors are not blocked. Also that the vents are not blocked.
The towel hanging options it legit important especially when traveling with another person. It’s also nice to be able to hang a shirt to dress in a steamy room to help alleviate wrinkles while traveling.
Either these companies are going after Google margins, or they need to go back to manufacturing 101 & find a way to produce these more cost effectively. As it stands, the tiny house prefab market is not long for this world.
Many of the costs are fixed, that's just how it is. There is some pretty incredible stuff going on with modular automated manufacturing in the space. What we have now is just a taste of what's to come.
I agree. Seeing more tiny homes edging towards the $160K range in the US, which is absurd. And this doesn't include land & utility installs. Unfortunately, many TH marketers keep telling potential home buyers that affordable housing no longer exists. This is not true. Other than re major urban-city housing, you can find $160K or less homes in many markets. You'll probably have to do some repairs & updates, but much of that can usually be accomplished while you're living in the home.
@@monkeybusiness1999 TH Manufacturers don't understand their competition. They think they're competing with 500(k) homes when the REAL competition is Americans moving abroad. If I can't buy basic shelter for under 100K in this country, I'll move to a country where I can.
The issue currently is the prefabs are trying to follow the Tesla model. The ones that are selling at lower cost run into the issue that the biggest cost is connecting utilities, it can cost more to install water/sewer/power than you paid for the unit at the lower end.
Again, thanks for this tour, cute little unit and the magic window are cool. You said you made it home for the holidays in your last video, hope your Christmas and New Year is terrific!

I am pretty much over these hospitality pre-fabs. It seems like a real waste of the manufacturing capacity to build these not-homes during a time when the housing shortage and the lack of affordable homes is pretty much at a crisis point, at least in Canada.

@robertpearce4316 idk about this particular one but I've seen decent tiny homes built on trailers for 70k to 100 and something k. I feel old, I remeber when 100k could get someone a nice little 3 bedroom and decent lot brand new in many areas of the nation
A vanlife UA-camr I follow stayed a night in one of these (not these in specific, somewhere else), and I thought it looked awfully cute, so I’m glad to see a more thorough review of the design. It’d be nice for an art studio, not good for me for a home. Maybe as the art studio next to which I park my van home lol
Hey Kerry, Merry Christmas! If you ever find out what they used to make the windows block, would love to hear what it was? Thanks, keep doing what you are doing 🙂
Nice little studio and thank you for roughing it in the cold 🙂. One request is to up the volume in your videos because when it hits commercials, those are so much louder that we constantly have to change the volume. Making you part louder would even them out somewhat. Thank you in advance.
It's a nice model, you'd expect the wood and cocoa or at least tea or coffee would be included in the price of renting this tiny house. Little advice when you go to snowy location bring snow boots, much better than runners! Joyeeux Noël du Québec ⚜
I have a house near this tiny home Smoke Jumper Resort in Idaho City. There are lots of natural hot springs in the area. There is the Springs that costs money but there is also free natural hot springs in Lowman. Sometimes, that drive to Lowman is closed due to avalanche warnings. That drive on Hwy 21 is absolutely amazing. It goes from Boise to Stanley and then forks off to either Sun Valley or Montana. Idaho City used to be a town with 20,000 people during the gold mine rush. Trudy's Restaurant is the closest restaurant. Gold Mine inn is supposed to be good but I have not eaten there. And then there is Clear Creek Lodge that is new but I have not been there either. It is supposed to have good food as well as the HillTop near Luck Peak Reservoir. Stanley has more hot springs and scenic mountains.
I live in Northern Idaho and we get real snow, like up to your butt or higher all winter normally. We've had a few years recently when there was eight feet of standing snow all winter long... Those years are a pain, but they send the Californians running, so that's fine. Spring eventually comes, and we do have the four seasons.
new subs. thanks for sharing. Loved the detailed explanations of all accessories. I love lofts, i am sleeping on one now and wouldnt change it... can go down the ladder even on my sleep😂
I've used those mini stoves before. I'm a big fan of wood stoves and those mini ones are cool, but the problem is you constantly have to feed them due to the obviously tiny fire box. I would totally use that stove, then complain about it in the morning, lol. How does that privacy glass work? What's the 3rd party solution there?
Great tour & review. It's a nice build. My only criticism is that the host didn't leave you a little basket of hot cocoa, teas, coffee & cookies. Little extras like that matter, re great reviews & repeat business.
A very awesome unit, but it took a long time for you to get inside which seems to have a surprising amount of space. We have a big backyard which would be perfect for a couple of these units. Also, a little more explanation of how the motorized glass works. What are the shipping costs? Anyway, very nice presentation if a bit longer than it needed to be.
First 30 secs I thought, okay but can you order 2 and attach them together? Or even with a middle deck in between. Roofline mirrored, so the longer roofline is to the left and the other to the right 😃
Everyone should keep in mind that”real costs”! To build a bathroom is around $5,000, a kitchen with appliances, $10,000, insulation, $2,000, metal cladding, $4,000, windows and doors, $6,000, electrical, $2,000, heating system, $2,500, framing and foundation, $6-8,000, vapor barrier, taping, $800, soffit wood, $800, flooring, $2,500 throughout, water, sewer to lot, $10,000 (depending on CAD or USA) kitchen, bathroom plumbing hookup and drain, $1,500. Misc. As in decking, outside fire pit, chairs, etc, say with extra, $3,000. This doesn’t include permitting, parking, or profit. Those prices would be if you personally hired trades to do the work. Hire a contractor and he/she will want likely $10,000 (2 months work to complete) In short, the cost isn’t like importing a container home from China for $35K USD and then building a pad or foundation, servicing it. It’s starting from scratch onshore. It’s more expensive than people think.
This video contained misleading information about the amount of snow in Idaho, a retraction of that misleading information, followed by a retraction of that retraction, all in the first 5 minutes of the video. I appreciate the dedication to journalistic integrity that you show in your videos.
The loft would be the only major issue for me as I'm a big guy (6'2) and so I don't think I could sleep comfortably with the roof so close. If the roof were a foot higher then we would be in business. A larger fridge/freezer would also be a must.
What about the foundation? Does it need a concrete slab? I fancy putting this next to my house as a combination gym/bathroom/ laundry but would it be cheaper than a conventional build?
People talking about the price. Your expensive rooms in any house are kitchen and bathrooms. Bedrooms are cheap to build. So a 15k kitchen in a 2500 foot house verses a 10k kitchen in a 300 foot house. It’s relative. Space is cheap to build as bedrooms . Appliances/plumbing/fixtures/electrical are where your expenses are!
Wants to check out house in below freezing weather with a picturesque woodburning fire pit and fireplace, Proceeds to not bring really warm clothes, wood, or hot chocolate. 😂 Also forgets to make sure hot springs would be open. It still was an interesting enough video. 👍
That bridge at More's Creek where your video started, well a guy i graduated high school with crawled out on the underside of that bridge during the summer to jump in the water. He did not survive. This was not recent, in fact, several decades ago.
As a short term rental it may work but as an actual home....no. Especially not at the price mentioned, maybe cut that in half and it would be a possibility but still a slim one (no pun intended). Oh, and next time you're braving snow you may want to think about something other than running shoes for footwear?
Nice As Always! You're old enough to believe the News or Weather... The split should be on the back (out of sight) and plumbed to the living space. Ha ha the windows were retro-fitted but they should have split the opaque privacy separately so the top and bottom are controlled individually. btw what is the window manufacture or privacy method? Safe Travels Kerry!
The smart money is on looking at the radar and finding out what your little spot is getting or due to get. Radar is the game changer in modern meteorology. Welcome to the 21st century.
Wow. That is a FREAKING LOW LOFT. Big old NOPE. They should have stolen some height from the bathroom ceiling or something. Just watching you up there is making me claustrophobic!
I appreciate the video and I’m gonna tease you here. You weren’t ready with wood for the fire pit, didn’t think about bringing hot chocolate, and just wanted to get there. Ok. But I had to giggle because you also forgot to wear winter boots. The running shoes going into a perceived blizzard was funny. You’re lucky it wasn’t icy. Lol as a Canadian, I have to giggle at that. We all tried that when we were in high school! Yeah, the loft seemed really nice. It didn’t seem as claustrophobic as some. But I’m shocked that they didn’t have higher railings on the ledge of that loft. I could easily go off that. I sleepwalk, or I get startled and jump out of bed, or just plain forget where I am. Half asleep I would think I’m at home getting up in the middle of the night trying to get to the bathroom. That is dangerous. I also think it’s nice. Basic. But ridiculously expensive. Merry Christmas !
I’m not sure I could stay there longer that a weekend. The side wall window is in the wrong place. It should be right where the desk is located, to look outside as you work. Or put a window horizontally about 9’ high and a 10’ X 4’ with the same obfuscating feature. To live in a place like this. It would need to be about 6’ wider for storage space.
Climbing up/down a ladder at night is not fun and might be dangerous when you're sleepy. $98k a piece + shipping ... hm ... I want 2 pieces connecting to each other and more windows (esp. a window at the kitchen) but then $200k for a 480 sq ft home is a bit high.
Hey Kerry, while youre there, Consider going to meet with Nate at East Idaho News & let his Daughter Emme interview you. She's a cutie pie & Nate is a very cool human. I think youd hit it off.
You might as well build a full sized home or buy a manufactured home. None of this is affordable to an average person. This is not for regular people this is for affluent people who want to play with trendy minimalist toys.
Kerry, I am not going to lie, I was fully prepared to hate it, but that would have been a hasty decision. I like it, again it is all about taking disparate pieces and making them come together as a cohesive whole, and they did that beautifully. I know the instant this unit snaked me in the head and said, hold on now, we know what we are doing. When you got up close and personal with the entrance and how the front facade was designed meticulously, I was all in. Kerry, yes the unit is small but it is very functional, and doesn't end up feeling cheap, but precise. Kerry, you have another clear winner to add to your trophy case. Merry Christmas Kerry.

I live in Northern Idaho and we get real snow, like up to your butt or higher all winter normally. We've had a few years recently when there was eight feet of standing snow all winter long... Those years are a pain, but they send the Californians running, so that's fine. Spring eventually comes, and we do have the four seasons.
Summer is only a week long some years but it exists? :)
new subs. thanks for sharing. Loved the detailed explanations of all accessories. I love lofts, i am sleeping on one now and wouldnt change it... can go down the ladder even on my sleep😂
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed the video
The fire pit story is good. Do more stories, Kerry
😊
Haha will do!
I wonder how much the bathroom molds from steam from showering since I did not see an exhaust fan?
O thought it got a window?
I think you could literally build a 2 car garage and convert it for half that cost.
Thats always an option
Cute place, obviously not for everyone, but nice to see it. Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate you watching!
Thanks. The tour was great. Nice job, as always. Merry Christmas!
Thanks John, Merry Christmas
Merry, Merry Kerry!!1 All the best Man!
Same to you!
Great tour & review. It's a nice build. My only criticism is that the host didn't leave you a little basket of hot cocoa, teas, coffee & cookies. Little extras like that matter, re great reviews & repeat business.
Merry Christmas thanks for all that you do !
Same to you!
Below freezing is funny and still potentially very warm! 😂
Thanks for sharing Kerry
You bet! Thanks for watching 🤝
Thanks for showing us this great cabin! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025!
Thanks Kathleen! Same to you 🎄
First 30 secs I thought, okay but can you order 2 and attach them together? Or even with a middle deck in between. Roofline mirrored, so the longer roofline is to the left and the other to the right 😃
they have larger models available but yeah you could probably connect them with a deck
The glass wall moved when he chute the door
I like this one. It would be great for short stays. For long term, i would prefer a full kitchen and a full bedroom.
The pricing is what keeps such prefab housing from being a solution for anything.
Appreciate the feedback
They are not a housing solution. They are a higher end / specialty AIRBnB / Glamping opportunity.
LOL. Might have to make an official statement about the snow in the comments
😂
@@KerryTarnow OMG I can’t believe somebody took the time to do that. Sorry you had to even read a comment about the weather.
And a 15 million dollar donation to the Trump library
The loft would be the only major issue for me as I'm a big guy (6'2) and so I don't think I could sleep comfortably with the roof so close. If the roof were a foot higher then we would be in business. A larger fridge/freezer would also be a must.
Yeah thats fair. Thanks for watching
What about the foundation? Does it need a concrete slab? I fancy putting this next to my house as a combination gym/bathroom/ laundry but would it be cheaper than a conventional build?
Lucky duck Kerry! Hope you enjoyed Idaho...lol.
I did 😃
People talking about the price.
And how much were the utilities?
Merry Christmas! Great job on the video!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Or you could be in Pattaya Thailand having fun. I have a Grizzly just like that, in my RV. Love it! Made in Canada too. (not China)
Yes, it is hot water on demand. That is a streibel Eltron on demand water heater that was under the sink
very cool house. does it have a 10 bay garrage attached?
It does not
Wants to check out house in below freezing weather with a picturesque woodburning fire pit and fireplace, Proceeds to not bring really warm clothes, wood, or hot chocolate. 😂 Also forgets to make sure hot springs would be open. It still was an interesting enough video. 👍
A longer non loft version would be cool
They have it
That bridge at More's Creek where your video started, well a guy i graduated high school with crawled out on the underside of that bridge during the summer to jump in the water. He did not survive. This was not recent, in fact, several decades ago.
As long as it has a toilet and shower 😂, it is good enough for me !😂😂😂❤❤❤
Nice! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
Watch how they can make the windows opaque when he goes inside. That would be great.
That is an Air Fryer under the loft.
Enjoyed the cabin!
Glad to hear it
Wow! What a great getaway!
Yeah it was fun!
Convertible couch, yes, I'm 73 years old. No loft for me Cindy
Thats fair, thanks for watching
Yes, a woodburning stove!
Yeah!
Is that skylight an egress window??
Oh my God, “the feature wall”. I hope somebody’s counting how many buzz were he uses.
There's also an oddly placed paper towel and towel holder in the living room. So, ya, towels everywhere.
Haha
Well done for a BnB.
Got the trave bug huh Kerry?
Haha yeah
Wow. That is a FREAKING LOW LOFT. Big old NOPE. They should have stolen some height from the bathroom ceiling or something. Just watching you up there is making me claustrophobic!
Appreciate the feedback
Are you speaking of the same George that was sued with abc news 🤣
Great lakeside, stream or even trees or views of animals
Merry Christmas 🎄. Haha yeah I hate checking a bag so I’m usually short on stuff 😂. Might have to re think my system
Thats fair, appreciate the feedback
Climbing up/down a ladder at night is not fun and might be dangerous when you're sleepy.
$98k a piece + shipping ... hm ... I want 2 pieces connecting to each other and more windows (esp. a window at the kitchen) but then $200k for a 480 sq ft home is a bit high.
“Zach Roloff” the bed! 😄😉
haha finally! was wondering if anyone would catch that
Hey Kerry, while youre there, Consider going to meet with Nate at East Idaho News & let his Daughter Emme interview you. She's a cutie pie & Nate is a very cool human. I think youd hit it off.
Awesome love it
I'm glad
Idaho is a best-kept-secret state…stunning scenery . Very cool house. LOVE the loft!
Very scenic!
Did he say “Zack Rolloff” the bed? I live in Oregon and recognize the name for sure.
I used to watch their show a lot, big fan
How much does it sell for?????
Pretty cool. Thanx
Thanks for watching
You might as well build a full sized home or buy a manufactured home. None of this is affordable to an average person. This is not for regular people this is for affluent people who want to play with trendy minimalist toys.
Thank you for the feedback
Great video !
Thank you
That is so cool what the windows do. I don't mind a loft but don't like ladders.
Thanks for watching!
Stephanopoulos: A definite Go-To. ;-))
Wow glad you came around on this one! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 2024 and a Happy New Year 2025!
Same to you! Thanks for watching.
I’m curious to know what your favorite build is so far after experiencing so many in person.
