Sorry Rob -that "duck walk" move by the guitarist is from the GREAT Chuck Berry. Angus "borrowed" it (but is worthy of it, of course). Chuck Berry ALWAYS did it on stage, even when he got old...

    • @redarmysoja
      @redarmysoja 2 роки тому +54

The guitarist in the video was Billy Peek, who was discovered by Chuck Berry. This video was done in 1977 and not many people outside of Australia had heard of AC/DC at that point.

@@redarmysoja True that. Some of their stuff had apparently been released internationally since '76, but I don't recall hearing them in America until Highway to Hell came out in '79. That's when they really blew up here.

Guys, you haven't really heard Rod Stewart until you've listened to his songs, "Stay With Me," "Maggie May," "I Know I'm Losing You," "Gasoline Alley," and "Every Picture Tells A Story." These are from his earlier work and are much more like "Hot Legs" than the other songs you've done. These are the songs that put him on the map..gritty, rocking, and sexy

"Stay with Me" was released twice as a single. The Faces released the studio version, and Rod released the live version as a solo, though I believe The Faces were still backing him on the live version. If I remember, on initial release, the live version was the hit in the US and the studio version was a hit in the UK.

Guitarist was a guy named Billy Peek. He was southern rock guy from Mississippi that was in Rod’s band in the 70’s. That’s why you get the blues/rock vibe in this song. Rod was very diverse. From his early stuff with the Faces , to the southern rock feel of this song , to disco with “Do ya think I’m Sexy” , to a new wave sound in the 80’s with “Young Turks” plus plenty of ballads along the way.
“Infatuation” is a banger with the great Jeff Beck on guitar...def check that one.

"Hot Legs" (released Feb 1978) was the 3rd of 4 singles from Rod Steward's 8th solo studio album, "Foot Loose And Fancy Free" (released 4 Nov 1977), reaching number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart (The other singles from the album are: "You're In My Heart", "You're Insane" & "I Was Only Joking". The guitarist in the video and on the song is Billy Peak from St. Louis, Missouri, who still plays around St. Louis regularly, and also played with St. Louisan Chuck Berry, who is actually the originator of the "duck walk" that Angus Young of AC/DC also does.

More Rod Stewart: "Young Turks", "(I Know) I'm Losing You", "The First Cut Is The Deepest" (cover of a Cat Stevens hit), "You're Insane", "Every Picture Tells A Story", "I Was Only Joking", and "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" 🎧🎶🔥😎

Ahh, back to Rod Stewart. Okay.
You've done "Maggie May" and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?". Oh, "Tonight's the Night". So where can you go next with him?
Yes, "Forever Young" is an obvious front-runner. "Runaway Train" is pretty good, too. But my favorites?
    "Rhythm of My Heart"
A soldier coming back from war to the woman he loves.
    "Broken Arrow"
    A lover's plea. Heartbreaking.
    "Have I Told You Lately?"
The unplugged cover of Van Morrison's classic.
But my favorite that Rod Stewart actually hates and doesn't perform in concert?
    "Love Touch"
Oh! The steel drum intro. And yes, from a soundtrack to a slight favorite of mine, the 80s courtroom movie, "Legal Eagles"
    Hope that helps!

Check out really early Rod Stewart singing 'I Ain't Superstitious ' on the TRUTH album by Jeff Beck. He was just the boy singing and not well known at the time.

You know you guysI will go to my grave listening to David Bowie in my head. The angelic tones where that man can take. His voice was just like nobody else. As far as I’m concerned. I never really appreciated him as a little boy in the 70s, but after his death, I really focused on his voice. Oh God, he was a genius, God bless him you know you

As a few people said, "Forever Young" is definitely a must listen. I also recommend a VERY under-rated song of his called "My Heart Can't Tell You No". It's heart-wrenching and his voice sounds amazing in it. One more I have to recommend is "This Old Heart of Mine" in which he duets with Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers (who originally sang the song). It's SO good!!!

You've done four songs from Rod, all from the 70s. But his stardom spanned decades, so may I recommend that you do some songs from his 80s albums? You could do "Passion", "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me)", "Young Turks", "Baby Jane", "Infatuation", "Love Touch", "Downtown Train", or his cover of The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart of Mine" (which featured Ronald Isley himself). Y'all need to do "Legs" by ZZ Top, too. :)

Billy Peek is the guitar player on the tracks. He played awhile with Chuck Berry. In '79 I went to 3 nights at The Cow Palace of Rod and this very band. The lughts went out and out of the PA blared David Rose's "The stripper". About halfway through the curtains opened, the stage lights went up, and they broke into this song, Hot Legs. Ripped the joint up. I was up against the stage all 3 nights with my 35mm camera. So many great slides. Ah, the old days of great bands, no assigned seating (festival seating) and you could bring cameras.

Rod had a ton of fabulous music. This one was 1977. My personal fav is Forever Young, however, since he has grown older, he began doing old classic big band music & has done at least 4 albums of those old tunes. Of these songs, The way you look tonight is a great one to start down that path. Check out a whole other side of this talented guy.

Saw Rod in concert in Aberdeen Scotland at Patodrie football ground in 1995. It was called the concert in the round. He had musicians in a kind of glass dome and he sang in on top of it. Was a great show.

Memories of hanging out every Friday night at a night club called "The Garage" in the early 80's. Every Friday was the "Hot Legs" contest and they played this song over and over and over again. I love Rod Stewart's voice. My favorite song was "Stay With Me" when was a singer in the band "Faces" in the early 70's.

Welcome aboard! Two of the most high energy concerts that I ever attended where by Rod Stewart, in the early '80s. Rod's longevity is a result of his large catalog of songs that different age groups can relate too.

As I watch y'all react to these iconic rock bands and their timeless work, I'm reminded just how fortunate I was/am to have been a kid coming of age when these songs were dominating the charts! I remember this song well! Sometimes it seems sooo looong ago but then when I listen with the RSR Fam and read the comments, hear your enthusiasm and love for the music, well, somehow it doesn't seem that long ago. J, Amber you keep doing what ur doin cause we all appreciate it and you guys!

I went to his concert in Sun City, Bophutatswana. I worked there in the Casino 1980's. He was very down to earth and played football with the 'Casino Aces' team. Put on the kit and hung out with the guys.
