Singer = Rod Stewart. Primary Guitarist = Ron Wood. Ron and Rod were together in the Jeff Beck Group, and then The Faces. Ron went on to join the Stones in 1975. Stewart's 1971 "Every Picture Tells a Story has Wood as a guitarist as well. The Album is phenomenal. These two are legit legends. Stewart is, ironically, playing a Banjo for this song. Mandolin has eight strings.
Rod Stewart on Banjo, Ron Wood with guitar. The mandolin comes in near the end; looks like a little guitar with 8 strings. When Rod references his steel guitar, you hear a little riff from it, but you don't see it. This is my favorite Rod Stewart song. There is a more commonly heard version which was released, where there is a long mandolin solo near the end: heavenly sound! I think Rod has a new fan!
Yes, that’s Rod singing and now that you’ve got a taste of that you need to hear these guys when they were young. Please listen to Maggie May and Stay with Me, original STUDIO versions! You will be in love!
Great song! Rod Stewart is a British rock & pop singer, songwriter with a distinctive raspy singing voice. His music career started in the 60's. Rod Stewart was in quite a few groups before going solo. He was in "The Dimensions", "Jeff Beck Group" & "Faces". He had a lot of great hits such as "Reason To Believe", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "You Wear It Well", "Sailing", "Tonight's The Night", "You're In My Heart", "Rhythm of My Heart", "I Was Only Joking", "Some Guys Have All The Luck" & many more.
Twas a banjo. The mandolin is the smaller instrument featured later in the song. Rod Stewart always had one of the best voices ever in rock, and he made great music for decades. And he usually had very wild hair!
Rod Stewart is a huge music star from the 70's. In 1971 when this song was released, Maggie May became his first number one hit. So many hits from Rod to come. Some of his original videos were great including his song Hot Legs.
Bless you, Britt. These are two music legends. Go through the comments, and then start listening to Rod Stewart in particular. Yes, darlin', he is a Rock Star!
From the same album (a great album at that), 'Maggie May' was Rod Stewart's first mega hit (he had so many). Rod Stewart is actually a living legend on his own, and Ron Wood, too, as a Rolling Stone member. Great reaction!
Rod Stewart gold standard artist, must hear Handbags and Gladrags, Maggie May, Country Comforts, Gasoline Alley, Blind Prayer, more, Ron Wood is in the Stones. Banjo came from Africa, you should know that.
Love Rod Stewart's voice, I absolutely love this song and the playing on the instruments they did, this touched my heart and yes its hypnotic, the song says this is true love, stand by you no matter what ❤️🔥
Thanks Britt! I love your reaction! Thanks for having an open opinion for these old guys, and old music! Thanks for your appreciation for the banjo and the mandolin. Oh and BTW, the Stones (Ron) went into the Hall of fame in 1989. Rod Stewart in 1994. I wish all young people were like you!
Love that fact you are discovering new old music. It feels sometimes that the modern music industry has lost its way and real talent isn't as important in what becomes popular today. The rock star vibe isn't surprising, Rod Stewart is a genuine rock star.
I love that people are still discovering Rock royalty. Legends both. Although, when this was first recorded they weren't quite legends, but had all the hallmarks.
That's a banjo His Royal Rodness is playing. The mandolin comes on screen at 5:41. Rod has so many many great songs. Another pretty one is "Handbags and Gladrags". A good story song is "Young Turks". Two bangers by him are "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" and "Hot Legs". Dive into the Stewart rabbit hole, you won't regret it.
A mandolin is a small acoustic instrument. Uses 8 strings tuned the same as a violin. Often used in Bluegrass music. Ironically, two of the most famous song with Mandolin in the title doesn't actually feature the instrument itself. Mandolin Rain by Bruce Hornsby is the other. A song you will love.
@@amaznjohn they include but not feature. Rod is playing the banjo and Bruce Hornsby plays piano. In neither song is the mandolin the featured instrument
Rod Stewart was huge for a long time. "Maggie May", "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Tonight's the Night", "Downtown Train", "Young Turks". He's sold 46 million albums. Ron Wood is in the Rolling Stones, as well as the Jeff Beck Group. Banjo (which Rod Stewart plays here) and mandolin (not actually played in this song) are standards in bluegrass, sometimes used in more traditional country music as well. For some good mandolin playing, check out Ricky Scaggs, who has played since he was a very young boy.
shocked when you said you had not heard of Rod .. He has sold 100 mil records my fav Rod Stewart - Forever Young (Official Video) with his son or the video of him singing it with his daughter
Rod Stewart is one of the biggest rock stars ever with a career covering 50 years. Started with a rock group and then to a solo career covering rock, gospel (People Get Ready) and even classics like Blue Moon. Maggie May was his first big hit. I Was Only Joking probably his most personal and Forever Young was his most touching song in my opinion. You could react to a song of his every day and probably not finish until sometime next year.
Now that you've heard "Mandolin Wind", you have to hear "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby. The two songs aren't related (so far as I know), but it's a nice segue.
The Faces were a stellar group of pub rockers before the genre actually existed. The Faces had Steve Marriott who left and opened up the space for Rod and Ron to join, of the disbanded Jeff Beck Group. All these names Jeff, Rod, Ron and Steve all deserve your attention. All are contemporaries of the Beatles who might have heard of. A very seminal period of Rock (exploratory with many sub groups) music growing out of Rock N' Roll (originally a dance music).
Great Reaction. Rod's Maggie May was his first hit (1971). My first holiday abroad with my M8's in Lloret Del Mar, Spain, in 1972 and that song was the one that I always remember from that 2 week holiday. The other incredible memory is a TRIPLE Bacardi and Coke in a long thin glass that cost 10.......PENCE or 13 CENTS!
Rod Stewart is the singer with the Banjo, Ronnie Wood is the gentleman next to him with the steel string acoustic guitar. There is also a Dobro Steel slide guitar and a mandolin and an acoustic bass guitar that came in as well as the drums. Ronnie was Rod's main guitarist back in the early days of their collaborations in the band Faces and briefly after the group disbanded. Ronnie went ahead in '75 to join The Rolling Stones, and is still with them. Rod Stewart is a rock icon and has a HUGE library of music and hits.
Rod is one of the all time greats that started way back in the 60's and has reinvented himself many many times. Must hears - Maggie Mae, Forever Young, You Wear It Well, The Motown Song, Young Turks, Downtown Train, This Old Heart of Mine, Every Picture Tells A Story, (Find A) Reason to Believe, Handbags and Glad Rags. WHAT TO AVOID - Hot Legs, Do You Think I'm Sexy, and anything else from that era.
Deep dive Rod Stewart!! He’s had so many great songs! Hot legs, reason to believe, Maggie may, forever young and the list goes on!! Love your reactions Britt!
Rod Stewart and Ron Wood are true rock star legends. I see from the comments below that their history is listed. Rod Stewart has a long list of hit songs going back 50+ years. My favorite is "Forever Young" that he wrote for his son.
Hi Britt , you finally found Rod Stewart . He has been around since the mid 60s with his raspy voice . He is from Scotland in the UK . Yes he is SCOTTISH . . He has some big hits under his belt . Ronnie Wood later joined the Rolling Stones . He really came into his own in the 70s after being in a few bands . Try reacting to Maggie May that was a big hit for him and his band early 70s . He just went from strenth to strenth and is still around today . Thanks Britt Rod is a superstar good to see you bring him to your channel John
Sorry Boss ... Not Scottish ! .... Roderick David Stewart was born at 507 Archway Road, Highgate, North London, UK. on 10 January 1945, the youngest of five children of Robert Joseph Stewart (26 December 1904[12]-1990)[13] and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart (14 December 1905[12]-1996).[14][15] His father was Scottish and had been a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh, while Elsie was English and had grown up in Upper Holloway in North London. Married in 1928, the couple had two sons and two daughters while living in Scotland, and then they moved to Highgate. Stewart was born at home during World War II ... a good North London Lad !
Brit, so awesome you pulled this out! I love Elvis, Dean, Frank, Prince, Pelě, and many others, but always said if I croak, I want to come back as the next Rod. He is a true one off! You wear it well Brit! Thanks for the smile. Good health to all on deck.
Rod Stewart is my absolute favorite, has been since I was a kid since my parents are fans! The raspy voice is just so relaxing to listen to. I’m going to see him in Nov when he is in OK 😊
Rod (blonde hair) and Ron (dark hair) have long history together as both were members of the groups Faces and The Jeff Beck Group. They have maintained a great friendship for many years. Rod is a Rock Star with many hits in the 70's and 80s. I suggest Maggie May, Have I Told You Lately That I Love You and The First Cut Is The Deapest. Ron Wood joined The Rolling Stones in 1975 and has played with them since. Both are legands.
The light haired guy is Rod Stewart and he is playing a banjo. If I understand correctly the mandolin looks a lot like a guitar but is just a little bit bigger than a ukulele. I think a good example of a song with a mandolin is The Galway Gal by Fiddlers Green. As you look at Rod Stewart’s music catalog you will find that he is a charter member in the Rock and Roll PDC. His little laugh and devil may care grin knocks them out every time.
This is the great Rod Stewart, and this song is from one of the best albums ever in the instrument is a banjo he’s playing. Rod Stewart, one of the greatest performers since the late 60s girl, you better check him out!!!
Rod Stewart was big in the 70’s after his album “Every Picture Tells a Story.” He has also ventured into a couple other genres like Christmas songs and big band crooners. This album has a lot of great songs on it. I really liked “Reason to Believe.”
One of my favorite Rod songs but not one of his better-known ones so I was extremely glad to see the reaction to this, of course now you must listen to what I consider his best and biggest and am sure others will suggest as well Maggie May
As "always" lol Rod is from LONDON,which has produced more brilliant musicians over the last 60 years than any other place in the world. Sold 120 MILLION Records with 16 USA Top 10 Hits and 4 Number 1 records. Even more in The UK. Incredible variety of songs and was in Groups until he and 4 London mates formed THE FACES then it was Rod Stewart and The Faces. Still going strong now and had an incredible Rock Star life dating 3 Miss Worlds and a galaxy of(mainly) Women including the beautiful actress:Britt Ekland.
A great mandolin song is Battle of Evermore by Zeppelin. Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart did a great version under the name The Lovemongers. The cover was included in the legendary soundtrack album of the Seattle 90’s Grunge-centered film Singles. The film featured cameos by grunge stars like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, and Alice In Chains. The album rocks front to back. It was the soundtrack to my second year of high school.
Two old friends that have been a part of an amazing musical legacy, both together and apart. Still mates and if you get the chance, seek out interviews with the pair of them.
Such an awesome song another great reaction by you again like always love your youtube channel so much thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
Rod Stewart - arguably one of the most revered vocalists in the last 50 years, both solo and with the Faces. His album 'Every Picture tells a story has NO duff tracks and numerous classice - it also split between a 'fast side' and 'slow side' on viny;, because you'd be hard pushed to decide which one he does better. He played a banjo in this (vocals - you were right 'Rod!') Ron Wood played a bottleneck guitar, and another guy played the steel guitar, and yet another a mandolin which is th instrument that really captivated you with that descending piccato bit just before it picked up pace. Rod was a hellraiser in his time and still performs, though, in all honesty, nostalgia rather than quality keeps him going (imo). Great reaction and YES! an absolutely beautiful trrack.... from 'Every Picture'! :)
You're in my heart, Maggie May and I don't want to talk about it are three of Rod's best song. Stay with Me by the Small Faces is a classic. Ronnie wood plays with The Rolling Stones. Rod is also a fellow Glasgow Celtic fan.
This is lovely - I only discovered it fairly recently myself. Nobody mentioned this one, so I will - hands down, my favorite Rod Stewart song is An Old Raincoat Will Never Let You Down from his first (I think) solo album. It just rocks!
Rod sings many covers - some of his finest are: The First Cut Is The Deepest / Tomorrow Is Such A Long Time / Handbags And Gladrags / Mama You’ve Been On My Mind / I’d Rather Go Blind / Angel / I Don’t Want To Talk About It / It’s Not The Spotlight / If Loving You Is Wrong / And some of his best own works include: Cindy Incidentally (as singer with the Faces) / Gasoline Alley / Blind Prayer / You Wear It Well / Still Love You / Tonight’s The Night / Fool For You / The Killing Of Georgie / You’re In My Heart / I Was Only Joking. Also worth checking it is the Faces song Ooh La La - sung by Ron Wood.
Rod Stewart is playing a banjo. At about "3:58" on the original video you can see a musician playing the actual mandolin. You should definitely go deeper into Rod Stewarts career. Many, many hits over the years. Great and unique voice. He's excelled in almost every genre of music from early folk/rock, to full on rock, pop, disco, and even, in more recent years covering the "standards" from the 40s-50s. My favorite song of his is Reason to Believe though its definitely not his biggest hit.
Great reaction to this beauty of a song from over fifty years ago! If you would like to check out a very cool song that actually features a mandolin I would recommend "The Battle of Evermore" by Heart, covering a classic Led Zeppelin tune and making it their own!! Peace!!
I had Forever Young played at my younger brothers funeral, a 1988 track off Rods album Out of Order, worth a play. Lesser played but great tracks include Pool Hall Richard with the Faces and Mama You Been In My Mind a song written by Bob Dylan.
Rod Stewart is known for the song Maggie Mae or also known as Wake Up Maggie. Mandolin Wind is played with an electric guitar and banjo Blue Grass music features both the mandolin and steel guitar as primary instruments.
You don't know rock legends, do you ? They both are. Ron has been playing the guitar for the Rolling Stones for almost 50 years. Rod has been accumulating hits and successes since always. I highly recommend to watch Rod and the Corrs perform "Ooh la la", a song co-written by Ron Wood and late Ronnie Lane when they both were members of the Faces, band to which Rod Stewart also belonged. I also can't imagine that you never heard "Maggie May", one of Rod's most popular song.
Ron Wood was the guitar player in Rod's long time band, the Faces. Ron is now one of the two guitar players in the Rolling Stones, you know them? They are somewhat famous. Rod is known for his vocal style and also plays the mandolin which is related to the banjo. Rod has sold more than 250 million records and has been knighted and has given some of the most wonderful concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. Rod was living in Beverly Hills, but also has a gorgeous castle in his native home of Scotland. I hope you enjoy them.
Rod is known for having a whiskey tenor voice. I’ve been a fan of Rods since the early 80’s. I’ve seen him live more than a 100 times. I followed him around the plant. When I’m feeling down I listen to him. He is my drug. Listen to some of his music, you’ll be a fan, too He’s still doing live shows. And he also has a residency in Vegas. 😊
Rod is he who sings, Ron Wood, his looong time mate thath is playing the guitar is Ron Wood, the have played since the grope faces and Jeff Beck, Ron Wood is in the group called Rolling stones...if you heard of that group?
My favorite from this show is Cut Across Shorty. Very much worth your attention. Rod is super famous from the Faces with Ronnie and then as a solo artist. Ronnie is the Rolling Stones lead guitar player since leaving Faces.
I would so strongly recommend People Get Ready with Rod Stewart and (the late, great) Jeff Beck. You’ll love the music and the story in the lyrics. Love your pure reactions. You are a joy.
Rod Stewart is the that one singing the song. Ron Wood is his best friend, and Ron is in Rolling Stones, but they whre in the same band in the 60'. This clip is from 1993.
Sir Roderick David Stewart CBE (born 10 January 1945) is a British rock and pop singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, he is of Scottish and English ancestry. With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 120 million records worldwide. He has had 10 number-one albums and 31 top-ten singles in the UK, six of which reached number one. Stewart has had 16 top-ten singles in the US, with four reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. He was knighted in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to music and charity. 😊
This Album was Rod Stewart MTV Unplugged..and seated(a joke on how Rod Stewart always ran around at his concerts) this was played all the time on MTV and Vh1 in the 90s when I was a teen, especially the song "Have I told you lately) the guitarist is Ron Wood. This was 1993 exactly 30 years ago when I was 13...where has the time gone? 😞
You need to react to more of Rod Stewart music, especially from the group faces I can’t think of a song to suggest, but when I do, I’ll let you know if somebody else doesn’t do it first
Oh, and by the way, the really high-pitched pretty instrument you’re hearing is a mandolin but it’s being played by a different performer on stage who is sitting behind Rod. Rod is playing a banjo but that’s not the predominant instrument you’re hearing.
Banjos and mandolins are instruments traditionally associated with Bluegrass. If you want to hear how beautiful a mandolin can be. You should listen to the father of Bluegrass Bill Monroe MY LAST DAYS ON EARTH. An instrumental he wrote in the hospital when he thought he was dying.
Singer = Rod Stewart. Primary Guitarist = Ron Wood. Ron and Rod were together in the Jeff Beck Group, and then The Faces. Ron went on to join the Stones in 1975. Mandolin has eight strings.
The best album of 1971. Jim
Actually, Rod is playing a bantar. It's a banjo body with a guitar neck. You can tell by the six tuning pegs
Ray Jackson on mandolin and it plays all thru the song.@@freewill1114
Electric Warrior for me@@bert0522
Yes, that’s Rod singing and now that you’ve got a taste of that you need to hear these guys when they were young. Please listen to Maggie May and Stay with Me, original STUDIO versions! You will be in love!
I will keep those in mind, thanks!
You really should.
Once ya delve into Rod Stewart, there's no turning back. Such an icon in music
Especially the earlier stuff 👍

A great mandolin song is Battle of Evermore by Zeppelin. Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart did a great version under the name The Lovemongers. The cover was included in the legendary soundtrack album of the Seattle 90’s Grunge-centered film Singles. The film featured cameos by grunge stars like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, and Alice In Chains. The album rocks front to back. It was the soundtrack to my second year of high school.
...these men are legends
The original studio version of "Mandolin Wind" is quite a tear jerker.
IF LOVING YOU IS WRONG, FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST, WHEN THE ONE YOU LOVE IS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE ELSE.
Rod Stewart is the definition of “Rock Star”
Two old friends that have been a part of an amazing musical legacy, both together and apart. Still mates and if you get the chance, seek out interviews with the pair of them.
My very favorite Rod Stewart song. ❤
OMG. Rod the bod is one of the best! Have seen him many times in concert. Dig into his Maggie May days and Hot Legs etc...
It’s a banjo 🪕
Such an awesome song another great reaction by you again like always love your youtube channel so much thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
Thx Britt! Cool. Wonderful version of this song.
Rod sings many covers - some of his finest are: The First Cut Is The Deepest / Tomorrow Is Such A Long Time / Handbags And Gladrags / Mama You’ve Been On My Mind / I’d Rather Go Blind / Angel / I Don’t Want To Talk About It / It’s Not The Spotlight / If Loving You Is Wrong /
And some of his best own works include: Cindy Incidentally (as singer with the Faces) / Gasoline Alley / Blind Prayer / You Wear It Well / Still Love You / Tonight’s The Night / Fool For You / The Killing Of Georgie / You’re In My Heart / I Was Only Joking.
Also worth checking it is the Faces song Ooh La La - sung by Ron Wood.
Rod Stewart is the singer. Known for its raspy quality his is an iconic voice in the rock pantheon. He crafted his voice after Sam Cooke.
Peace!!
Status Quo - Don’t Waste My Time (Live Aid 1985) ... They opened the day ... and the crowd Loved them ... play it loud !
I had Forever Young played at my younger brothers funeral, a 1988 track off Rods album Out of Order, worth a play. Lesser played but great tracks include Pool Hall Richard with the Faces and Mama You Been In My Mind a song written by Bob Dylan.
Every Picture Tells a Story is a fantastic album!
Rod Stewart is known for the song Maggie Mae or also known as Wake Up Maggie.
Mandolin Wind is played with an electric guitar and banjo
Blue Grass music features both the mandolin and steel guitar as primary instruments.
ron wood and rod stewart are two of rocks legends
You don't know rock legends, do you ? They both are. Ron has been playing the guitar for the Rolling Stones for almost 50 years. Rod has been accumulating hits and successes since always. I highly recommend to watch Rod and the Corrs perform "Ooh la la", a song co-written by Ron Wood and late Ronnie Lane when they both were members of the Faces, band to which Rod Stewart also belonged. I also can't imagine that you never heard "Maggie May", one of Rod's most popular song.
Thanks for reacting to this one. Earlier Rod is most excellent.
Rod Stewart is the blonde playing the banjo and Ron is the man playing the guitar
thanks for letting me know!
After a rough day at work. You reacting to Rod Stewart was the medicine I needed. Thank you thank you thank you 🖖
Ron Wood was the guitar player in Rod's long time band, the Faces.
Beautiful banjo.
I saw Rod Stewart back in 1975 when he was the warm up act for the band Kansas. Man, the guy could rock!
Great, thanks!
Rod Stewart is the that one singing the song. Ron Wood is his best friend, and Ron is in Rolling Stones, but they whre in the same band in the 60'. This clip is from 1993.

LOL Britt....early Rod is just precious ))
he is great!
Rod Stewart "I am Sailing" was the only pop song my mother ( born 1923) ever really liked!
You need to react to more of Rod Stewart music, especially from the group faces I can’t think of a song to suggest, but when I do, I’ll let you know if somebody else doesn’t do it first
Stay With Me, and, (I Know) I'm Losing You
I will keep that in mind, thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep it in mind!
Britt, have a look at Gretchen Peters singing ‘On a bus to St Cloud’, and ‘When you are old’, you’ll love them!
You don’t know Rod? Ooooooh boy you have a long and wonderful journey ahead ❤
Banjo Rod is a great performer.
Rod's song, Maggie Mae, is on a lot of "best" lists.
Ron Wood is a member of the Rolling Stones and also a member of the group faces with Rod Stewart amongst others
that is so cool! Thanks for letting me know!
Oh, and by the way, the really high-pitched pretty instrument you’re hearing is a mandolin but it’s being played by a different performer on stage who is sitting behind Rod. Rod is playing a banjo but that’s not the predominant instrument you’re hearing.
Rod stewart is an icon. And classic rock royalty, but he did more than rock. Check out every picture tells a story
Brit, I think the word you were looking for would be Raspy. Rods voice is very raspy. ❤ one of Rods best songs was, the first cut is the deepest.
thanks !! it is very raspy!
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
