The one KEY element of the song that you guys may have missed is that Maggie was an OLDER woman. ("The morning sun when it's in your face really shows your AGE... but that don't worry me none, in my eyes you're everything." She is a cougar, who lures this young schoolboy (let's hope it's college, lol) away from home, his studies, etc. using her sensuality. She's probably having a midlife crisis and needs him to feel young again, and he's so in love (or lust) that he's "as blind as a fool can be" and is being toyed with for her amusement and to keep her company. The age gap is only alluded to the ONE time in the song, but it changes the whole dynamic.
No, certainly not college. No one in the UK would have referred to college/uni as 'school' at this period. He's about to begin a year (let's hope it's his last, lol) at secondary school, and his youth gives the song the edginess I've always associated with it.
Yes an older woman - [EDIT - FOR THOSE SIMPLETONS OR WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY READING ENGLISH - NOW HERE IS MY SIMILAR STORY] Even 22 can seem old to me when I was just 18 and after this song was released and I had just started university, my first love/lust taught me about making love but derailed my studies - very heady times and so very poignant - this song takes me back there, every time..
Not only that, but at the end of the song he hasn't left her yet. "I'll get on back home...one of these days." I always liked that little bit of a dark ending, where he's sort of stuck in limbo.

Classic rod, was still with the faces when he did this in 71. Just to add, I love your channel, your such a lovely couple, always happy and respectful of all music. Keep up the great work, love you both, peace and love ❤️
Rod is one of the all time great rock singers and Maggie May is one of his most famous songs. A true classic! Even though he is singing about heartbreak in this song I had to laugh a little at your "poor Rod" comments because in real life he's a legendary ladies man with an amazing list of blond beauties in his past and present! Many other great songs worth checking out: I'm Losing You, Forever Young, You Wear it Well and tons more.
Rod says he wrote this song after an ONS with an older woman --- FYI, he was not heartbroken. In an interview I watched once, when asked if "Maggie" was the only older woman he ever had a relationship with, Rod grinned sheepishly and said "definitely not" LOL. My name is Maggie, and I cannot tell you how often the opening verse of this song has been sung to me... however, I absolutely love RS and that mandolin solo is like heaven.
It’s my favorite to, but I thought it’s a Ukulele. So I looked it up and it’s a Ukulele. Only reason I knew was because I grew up listening to them. They are similar tho.
Another favorite Rod Steward song: "Young Turks" Yes, his voice is unique. "Da ya think i'm sexy" its kind of an awesome fun disco song by him too! Oh, and "Some guys have all the luck"!
Was starting to think I was alone in mentioning’Da Ya think I’m Sexy’. It brings back memories of the back seat if a VW Bug (tight fit), smoking, uhm you know, tearing down the road singing (screaming) the lyrics- well the chorus anyway🤣. The 70’s and 80’s were good times, don’t think we really realized it the time.
"Reason To Believe" and "You Wear It Well", two great Rod Stewart songs. Rod has been around for many years, since I was in high school, in the early to mid 70's. He was quite a lady's man in his day. He has recorded many great songs. A real treasure of a performer. Love you Rod.
You really need to check out some Small Faces/Faces e.g. 'Itchycoo Park', 'Stay With Me', and 'Ooh La La' . The Small Faces became The Faces when Rod Stewart joined the band as lead singer.
A little known fact-Rod was considered a good enough soccer player that he was encouraged to go pro but he chose music instead. We’re all the happier for it too.
Could have played professionally. I saw him in the old annual England-Scotland game a Fram in Palos Verdes maybe 20 years ago, on the field with Richard Gough and Ally McCoist.
@ Steven Ellers re Soccer Star ; Well known fact : Rod Stewart is the principal / victim / perpetrator in the most well-known urban legend of modern times. It happened early in 1971 right at the time of Maggie May. Everybody without exception believed it. Any comments? I'm a wacky Christian now so there's no way I would now mention this greatest of all urban legends if I hadn't have lived through it. Rod Stewart is the principal in without a doubt the most classic urban legend of our time. God bless Scotland. Rod was Scottish. Yours in the Lord , Brother Matt
I've seen him 1st hand at his concerts juggle and launch soccer balls from stage that are tossed up for him. He's a huge Celtic fan and attends many of their matches when he can, especially any big ones.
November 5th, 2021. Steve, Greetings and God's blessings. I responded to your comment in the main comment section so everybody could read it. Now that I posted it to the main comment section it looks like the comment I posted to the main/original comments section ( as opposed to a response which would not be seen by readers unless they looked up the responses to your comment ) was retained under your heading also. I guess God really wants you to read it . A reply to you was where I first wrote the main comment. I've done this a few times so I know the format. I've learned to cut and paste my response to the main section so more people can read it. Usually a person gets one or the other between the posting placed in a reply or posted in the main comment when one cuts and pastes from a reply to a comment. I call a lot of prayer lines. I called one to get some prayer support before I made the main comment post. The one I called before posting had a lady named Fiona who was from Scotland that prayed for the posting. Otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned Scotland as my last comment. Pretty interesting. Rod Stewart in an interview discussed the 1971 urban legend with Katie Couric of Yahoo News in 2012. It's easily available on the internet. One can come back and edit comments anytime. There's an old saying that there's no writing just rewriting. At the risk of leaving a few proofreading errors I'm going to send this now and know that I can edit in the days to come. Yours in the Lord , Brother Matt
"Maggie May" is the original "cougar" song. lol "The First Cut Is The Deepest" "Tonight's the Night" "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" "You're In My Heart" "Reason To Believe" and "Handbags & Gladrags" would all be great Rod Stewart reactions.
I was fortunate to see him twice. Once of the best concerts ever. It was like listening to his records. My favorite song by him. Maggie May was early Rod Stewart.
I watched an interview with Rod on a talk show and he sang this song. When he finished, one woman in the audience yelled out, "I lost my virginity to this song!" He just kind of stepped back and smiled. He said, "You did? Did anyone else lose their virginity to Maggie May?" and about 25 people raised their hands...both men and women. It was so funny. Thanks for your reaction guys. Rod sure was fun to grow up with. Take care and be well. Peace. ☮️
That sound you loved is a mandolin. This is a song about a kid being lured into a relationship with an older woman ( a cougar), then after he falls hard for her, she moves on the a new conquest and drops him. 'You Wear It Well', is a similar sounding song. 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy', is a disco song he did. 'Hot Legs' is another good one, but he's had numerous hits over the years. He was with The Jeff Beck Group and Small Faces, as well as having a successful solo career. My wife and l were dating, when this song was a mega hit in '71.
I wonder if you're like me and wish that the Faces had stayed together ? I have the same reaction every time that Amber did when he heard the mandolin. And after this song my next favorite is Do ya think I'm sexy - it may have been cheesy but boy did he pull it off. I think they would both like it. My 3rd fav is Tonight's the night
My Mom was absolutely in love with Rod Stewart. This was the song that made her fall in love with him. She passed away in 2020. This song hits me in the feels. ❤
That Mandolin at the end hit Amber like a freight train. This is one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs. I remember listening to it as a kid while my family drove out to camp at the beach in Long Island from Ohio in mid August every year during the the middle 1970s. Rod Stewart as a solo act, and also when he was with Faces, has a ton of incredible songs. "Losing You", "Hot Legs", and "Stay with Me" are some of his best known hard rocker songs. "Maggie Mae", "You Wear it Well", "You're in My Heart", "The First Cut is the Deepest", "I Don't Want to Think About It", and "I Was Only Joking" are some of his best slower songs. He also was fantastic at covering other artists' songs, bringing something new to them but staying within the original. Here is a reaction idea that no one else is doing: Listen to an original suggested by listeners, then listen to its cover by another artist. With Rod Stewart, you could listen to "Get Back" by the Beatles, then listen to Rod's cover version of it and do your reactions to both in the same slightly longer video. You could also do Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" and the Whitney Houston cover. Keep up the great reaction work.
You wear it well, Mandolin Wind, and, probably one of his finest 'The Killing of Georgie, Parts 1 and 2'. Some rabbit hole you've fallen into guys! Love your reaction to such great songs. After I watched your reaction to Sam Cooke's 'Change is gonna come' I needed a hug from Amber. Great channel you two!
Thanks for that, I hadn't thought of You Wear It Well in years!. You sent me off on UA-cam for a listen for old times sake. Enjoyed it! Very much in the same style as Maggie May if they are looking for that sound again.
OMG so emotional listening to Rod....Maggie May was one of my late dads favourite songs. When I was a kid it was playing all the time in our home.... it's a warm hug memory
The album that this is taken from, "Every Picture Tells a Story" is one of those albums that is considered perfect. There is not one bad track on the entire record. If you want to hear the most amazing drum solo ever, check out Mickey wallers drumming on Rod's cover of the Motown classic, "I know I'm losing you". Rod has been recording for over 50 years. His catalog is immense.
One of the most appealing things of that album - aside from the great songwriting - was that the band were so clearly having a freakin' BLAST playing! It just comes through on almost every track. But especially on I'm Losing You. They're just having so much fun!
Over the years I have seen Rod in concert 6 times. One of my first Rock Loves. My first Rod poster went up on my wall when I was 11 years old and still Love him and that voice and Hair today.
Big, Big Rod Stewart fan here. feel in love with his voice when I was a teenager listening to the radio. Lost count of the amount of times I have seen him live, I managed to be lucky enough to get two of his footballs that he kicked out. As for his songs its impossible to have a favourite, but love hearing him sing Mandolin Wind and Farewell (1974) Tonights The Night.. the list is endless..
One of the indelible memories of my youth was being out with some friends who were into photography at the time. We were out in the country looking for interesting things to photograph, more than slightly toasted, it was a perfect spring day, and we were young and without many cares, and this song came on the radio and it was just one of those transcendent moments of perfect bliss.
King of the 70s, up till 1977, then a train wreck for five years, then a master again. Masterful: "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "You're in My Heart", "Sailing" Dreadful: "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Hot Legs", "Ain't Love a Bitch"
Rod Stewart's earlier stuff, like Maggie May, could make you cry. Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well, Handbags & Gladrags, and Reason to Believe are all worth checking out.
Absolutely mate , Rod in the 70s for me I grew up listening to him mandolin wind , reason to believe, you wear it well my favourites ! also one that people tend to overlook is you got a nerve from foot loose and fancy free 👍
❤🎧 If you go down the Sir Rod Stewart rabbit hole, I promise you that you'll discover a ton of classic songs! Rod has been recording for 60 years, and he's still going strong. Much like Sir Elton John, Rod covers the categories of: pop-rock, blue-eyed soul, blues-rock, folk-rock, soft rock, and some fun disco numbers. ❤🎧
I saw him in concert outside on a driving rain storm, mud everywhere! No one left. High energy for two hours and he was the only singer! Amazing. A greatest hits concert in chronological order.
Rod Stewart is my absolute favorite artist. I have loved his music since 1975; when I was 7 yrs old. He has a huge catalog spanning 60 yrs that runs the gamet of musical genres.
This is one of my top top top top songs, I couldn't live without it. It holds a special place in my heart. It's basically a guy in a relationship with an older woman that causes him grief but he's never going to leave her. Rod Stewart is a legend, so many songs to choose from, it's a long rabbit hole to go down but it's worth it.
A boy in a relationship with older woman, not a guy. In his memoir he said he was 16 yrs old & can’t tell us how old she was but she was much older. I don’t think he is withholding her age, I’m guessing he never knew her age but I’d guess Maggie was in her 30’s or 40’s.
Glad you guys have met rod, his voice is something special, and few people could sing of something so dark, and make it such an upbeat Groove. And don't you just love the mandolin? I do!
Rod's live version of Handbags & Gladrags my favorite - the violins wow!!! beautiful lyrics too and a tear - oh and he's released a new single - better than most things charting/streaming
“I’ll get on the way home… one of these days.” He wants to leave, but he does still love her. This song has a lot of memories for me. My then new best friend, in our junior high science class, sang it to a girl whose name was Maggie. That was 50 years ago. Jake, I still love you and miss you.
Yeah he's singing all this, damnit Maggie you're bad for me. I should leave, I should leave.... But in the end, he's putting it off. One of these days....
I love love love Rod Stewart 🥰 I grew up listening to him with my mom. I was able to see him in concert a few years ago and he was absolutely INCREDIBLE. You MUST listen to his song Stay With Me that he did with his band Faces. It’s got great guitar, banging piano & Rod’s powerful voice. It’s a winner 👍 Also, his song Mandolin Wind (sigh)
This is the first song I ever remember hearing. I was 4 years old under big ass 70's headphones, listening to it on a reel to reel my mom had. We were living on the Marine base in 29 Palms California while my dad was serving in Viet Nam. "my" reel had Rod Stewart & Cat Stevens on it. I would lay on a giant pillow on the floor & color or play dolls while listening under headphones. It was great to grow up with such amazing music playing in our house. Thanks Mom!!!
This reminds me of my mother who passed about 6 years ago. She LOVED Rod Stewart, and was ALWAYS playing his records back in the mid-70's. This song always gets me. It sounds like those times....
Rod Stewart sang rock music with “the faces” and when he moved onto his solo work he did rock, pop, disco a little bit of everything. He can sing anything and kill it.
He started with some very early pop/rock artists in the UK, first coming to fame with the Jeff Beck Group, then joining the remnants of the Small Faces to become The Faces, then having a very successful solo career - which is still continuing! A long and distinguished career for Sir Rod Stewart!
I woke up to this song playing on the radio shortly after I graduated high school. It left me feeling so lost. lonely and empty that i went out and enlisted in the Army that day. Don't miss out checking Rod Stewart and the Faces (formerly the Small Faces with Steve Marriott). The song "Stay with Me" is a real rocker.
A classic older Rod Stewert song. The most missed but most important component is Ronnie Wood. While he is most famous for playing with the Stones, his contributions to Rod's music are unmatched.👍🏻✌🏼💯
You guys have reacted to Rod before, the song was “Da Ya’ Think I’m Sexy”….”Maggie May” is one of my absolute favorites ❤️. Try “Young Turks” and “You Wear It Well” next.
I first heard this song when I was 13 years old, and listening to it now, at age 64, it has really taken on a new meaning, thank you for all you both do.
This is a rabbit hole you'll end up loving to have fallen into Jay & Amber! The good tunes are near endless. The backing band "Faces" brought Ron Wood to the Stones and many others to all of us!
This song is about an older woman using an inexperienced young man. One of the GREAT songs by an AMAZING artist!! Forever Young Have I Told You Lately Tonights the Night
Rod Stewart: "I Know I'm Losin' You" - totally rocks out. Several versions of it but always loved Rod's version the best. And if you want to hear another rock classic check out Rod's vocals when he joined Jeff Beck on the album Truth and they did the song "Ain't Superstitious". Pure awesomeness (with some fantastic guitar work by Jeff Beck for Jordan's entertainment).
Rod and Beck were supposed to play The Illinois State Fair years ago. I was so fired up to see them but Beck pulled out of the tour and the show was canceled. I can't remember who was their replacement but I've never trusted buying tickets to see Jeff Beck since.
Rod Stewart is a true classic. First Cut is the Deapest, is a banger. Rod has so many hits all are good. Your music tastes seem to be expanding every day. Good for you two.
Maggie May is my favorite Rod Stewart song, I was teenager when I heard this song & bought the 45 then I bought albums folded by CD. Yes I'm in my 70's.
Oh man, one of the great songs of the 70s, and definitely one of Rod's best. Fantastic storytelling here, you guys will love it! Maggie is an older woman who basically took Rod on (in the context of the song's story, no idea if this is autobiographical) as a young boy toy.
In a Jan. 2007 interview in Q magazine, Rod said it was inspired by his 1st sexual experience, with an “older woman” he met at the 1961 Beaulieu Jazz Festival (he was 16). He also said her name was not Maggie May. He got that name from “an old Liverpudlian song about a prostitute.”
My greatest part of this reaction was just as the second acoustic solo starts. Amber had been lookin like she was about to cry, fr. Instead, when the solo started, she looked at Jay and just started smiling. He didnt even know she was watching him. Thats the REALLY reals! I hope dude knows that he is that trusted and depended on, that when shes down with the blues or needs anything, that she would instinctually turn to him so quickly.
One of the seminal songs of the 70s, his first #1 hit (in 1971). Other great hits (all #1s) are "You Wear it Well", "Sailing", "Tonight's the Night", and "The First Cut is the Deepest".
Quirky factoid - On "Tonight's the Night", there's a voice of a woman speaking french at the end of the recording. Its his then girlfriend/super model Britt Eckland. However, in subsequent releases of the song (after they broke up) they removed her voice background.
Saw him in concert a couple of years ago, HE PUTS ON AN INCREDIBLE SHOW!!!! He is in his 70s, voice is still good , so energetic, must have changed his outfits 8 times . Kicked soccer balls into the audience, has a pretty good leg too. If he comes close to yall GO!!!!
I was blessed with being able to turn on the radio in the late 60's and 70's and listen to all these great songs. There was no bad music back in those days.
Rod did a whole album full of crooner songs called "the great american songbook" i think they're all just remakes of classics so its not his music but since you like the genre you may like it
Rod's low point in his career. I understand he was trying to pay homage to the standards, but those albums are sterile over produced garbage. Rod is a Rock singer and that series was in my opinion a money grab. Take the track list and listen to the authentic recordings from the 40s through 60s. Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker, Frank Sinatra etc.
Heard an interview clip with him, where he said he was driving to London when he heard that this had hit Number 1 in UK. Said he turned the car around and drove home to hug mom and dad. I love that thought. BTW, I worked one of his shows a few years back. He's still got it, but I'll mention that at 5'10", I towered over him!
Amber's face when that mandolin melts her heart like it did a whole generation! That opening line, "Wake up Maggie, I think I got somethin to say to you!" What a grabber!

REM "Losing My Religion" has the mandolin as the lead instrument
@@josephbrown6906was that "71?
Classic rod, was still with the faces when he did this in 71. Just to add, I love your channel, your such a lovely couple, always happy and respectful of all music. Keep up the great work, love you both, peace and love ❤️
Listen to “Stay With Me”. He has a lot of great songs but that is one of my favorites and I have to smile at his audacity every time I hear it.
Rod was a heart throb back in the day. "Passion" "Infatuation" "Do Ya Think" "Hot Legs" and "Some Guys Have All The Luck" are a few of his many hits.
I can remember going to so many dances when the DJ would play this followed by High Ho Silver Lining by Jeff Beck, happy days.
I read it was inspired by his dog.
“Stay With Me” by Faces, with Rod as lead singer is pure energy from start to finish. Should be added to your list.
Absolutely.
One of the best intros in rock music! Had as my ringtone.
100%.
My fave!
Awesome track
The mandolin in this song is the spice that makes the dish! Love Rod's earlier stuff.
It’s my favorite to, but I thought it’s a Ukulele. So I looked it up and it’s a Ukulele. Only reason I knew was because I grew up listening to them. They are similar tho.
@@mitzicoleman7187 is a mandolin. It's even in the liner notes on the album. Ray Jackson on mandolin. A ukulele does not sound like a mandolin.
Ray Jackson from the band Lindisfarne played it & he didn't even get a credit for doing it, (apparently Rod had forgotten his name!)
@@Rob-fs8vq true! I believe the notes said something like Mandolin on Maggie May played by Lindisframe.
Yep, Ray Jackson, Lindisfarne
I love Young Turks!! Great story tellin in that one!
Another vote for listening to the song "Young Turks"
I loved the song Young Turks

Celtic was interested in him in his youth.
I've seen him 1st hand at his concerts juggle and launch soccer balls from stage that are tossed up for him. He's a huge Celtic fan and attends many of their matches when he can, especially any big ones.

Steve,
Greetings and God's blessings.

Forever Young
Lol! So true! 🤣😂
Hot legs! Is a great rocker
Mrs Robinson , Simon and Garfunkel.....?
Rod with Faces is one of the best bands to watch on stage, they had a lot of fun on stage.
Used to be The Small Faces before it got shortened.
I was fortunate to see him twice. Once of the best concerts ever. It was like listening to his records. My favorite song by him. Maggie May was early Rod Stewart.
Rod's Maggie May never gets old. Never get tired of it. The Mandolin is always a delight.
Peace. ☮️
I would have guessed that it was "Tonight's the Night'

@Theresa Marie Goes Places....That song probably would have had 45 people that raised their hands. lol ☮️
@@rickycoleman8841 ....very cool. ☮️
Oh so funny!!
Faces. Small Faces was a different group.
I have a 1967 cougar 390 4 speed,thanks!
Glad someone explained it to them
I wonder if you're like me and wish that the Faces had stayed together ? I have the same reaction every time that Amber did when he heard the mandolin. And after this song my next favorite is Do ya think I'm sexy - it may have been cheesy but boy did he pull it off. I think they would both like it. My 3rd fav is Tonight's the night
Rod Stewart's "You're In My Heart" is one of the best love songs ever. It's a must hear!
I just voted for that!! Yes please!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My Mom was absolutely in love with Rod Stewart. This was the song that made her fall in love with him. She passed away in 2020. This song hits me in the feels. ❤
My sister too was totally in love with him.
"Every Picture Tells a Story" is the title track; a must. Absolutely rocks.
Love Killing of Georgia and Sailing.
Yes, the ballad of Georgie is so raw.
Honored to have seen Rod in concert several times. One of the very best concert experiences ever. Love him & this song.
You gotta do Rod's "(I know) I'm Losing You"! The drums and the passion in that song will knock your socks off!
I grew up with him and this song and so it’s incredible to see people hearing for the first time. Truly
OMG so emotional listening to Rod....Maggie May was one of my late dads favourite songs. When I was a kid it was playing all the time in our home.... it's a warm hug memory
"Your in my heart" is another Great song of his.
Yes! I agree!!! ❤️
Every Picture Tells A Story / What a masterpiece
So many good rod songs. In the 70’s and 80’s I saw him many times. Never disappointed!!! Maggie was an older woman from his past. True story!
A near perfect song and performance. Rod was a King in the 70s.
And gain in the 80s and 90s, lol he is a legend!
I loved early Rod just like I liked early Elvis. They both went "Vegas" and sucked ever after. He was exceptional when he played with Jeff Beck.
King of the 70s, up till 1977, then a train wreck for five years, then a master again. Masterful: "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "You're in My Heart", "Sailing"
Dreadful: "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Hot Legs", "Ain't Love a Bitch"
I sang this every morning of my first pregnancy 31 years ago. I didn’t know if the baby was a boy or girl. I didn’t name her Maggie 😀

If you love Rod’s voice and harmony “All for love” with Sting and Bryan Adams is a must!! It’s beautiful how they blend
That mandolin break at the end gets me every time; absolutely enchanting.
Rod Stewart's earlier stuff, like Maggie May, could make you cry. Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well, Handbags & Gladrags, and Reason to Believe are all worth checking out.
add gasoline alley, love that song.
True, after the early stuff I kinda think later he pretty much wasted his talent, the songs he could have sung with that voice
Mandolin Wind is one of my favorites!
And don’t forget Sir Robert Plant

I saw him in concert outside on a driving rain storm, mud everywhere! No one left. High energy for two hours and he was the only singer! Amazing. A greatest hits concert in chronological order.
Grew up with this wonderful song. But don't sleep on "Mandolin Wind" or "You Wear it Well."
I had the single of Stay with Me when I was in 7th grade. The artist (band) was Faces. Also one of my favorites.
From that same album (Every Picture Tells A Story) a song that really show off Rod's voice is Reason To Believe.
All over the radio in summer of 71.
Once you know, you know. Now you'll have to listen to this song many more times throughout your life. It's definitely a keeper
This reminds me of my mother who passed about 6 years ago. She LOVED Rod Stewart, and was ALWAYS playing his records back in the mid-70's. This song always gets me. It sounds like those times....
One of a kind voice.. He's awesome.
New "Faces" album coming out next year!

Best cover of a Motown song ever imo.
especially when he was with Faces
Him an Jeff Beck doing People get Ready is great
Rod and Beck were supposed to play The Illinois State Fair years ago.
Can't believe this song is FIFTY years old...
@@Shrykespeare Oh man, that's nuts - we're not old though, right? ;-)
You don't think the record I' s better without the video ???
He hits that age gap hard with the line "Mother, what a lover you turned out to be'
A lot of guys had a Maggie. She's still special to me and she knows it.
Yeah. .... Still Always Special.
The morning sun when it in your face really shows your age. Best. Line. Ever.
I've heard this song countless times over the years. Never fully realized until now how masterful the bass playing was!
Love Rod Stewart. Not the purest of singers but his voice is very distinctive! As soon as he opens his mouth you know its him.
That "sound" was a MANDOLIN which is seldom used in contemporary music. It has such a distinctive sound that tickles the ears......
Did you know he had throat cancer? But he overcame and is still singing it!
I was blessed with being able to turn on the radio in the late 60's and 70's and listen to all these great songs. There was no bad music back in those days.
Rod Stewart does a great cover of "I'm Losing You".
One that's worth a listen is by Faces, Stay With Me (live version). Rod gained his popularity in this group, then went solo later.
Rod did a whole album full of crooner songs called "the great american songbook" i think they're all just remakes of classics so its not his music but since you like the genre you may like it
Ooh Jen he made 4 of them...I have them all🥰
Rod's low point in his career.
