  • We are sailing 750 nautical miles from the Galapagos Islands, to Costa Rica. We encounter boobies, cross the equator for the first time and genuinely have a blast being offshore. A life at sea is the one for me! Head to click-and-boat.pxf.io/c/53541... if you want to escape the crowds and give sailing a go.

    About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit

Living life at sea is the dream! My main concern is seasickness. I have had it a couple times, and been perfectly fine others. Neither of you seem to struggle with it at all. Any tips/tricks/magic solutions that might help me put it away for good?

As a humble monohull sailor, who has, I have to admit, disparaged Cats for years, seeing life and comfort on that floating apartment has been an eye opener .. another superb episode, great storytelling, superb filming and editing, and also as always, and unlike many other YT channels, really good episode length ! Thanks so much, my Mondays have changed for ever !!!

@@TeuluTribei agree. I wish you’d share some of those tidbits for those of us curious about how things aboard work. Such as the spinnaker; what makes it different and why it’s used at that time instead of another sail. Like how you talked about the different nav screens. Absolutely enjoy your channel, thank you for sharing your adventures for those of us stuck at home on land. Keep up the great work.

Good vlog. Sounds like you need an upgrade on instruments, especially if you’re thinking of a spinnaker. True and apparent wind speed as well as wind angle essential. Suggest a cruising shoot rather than a spinnaker as more versatile and easier to handle when short handed. Also cruising shoot generally needs less kit so less expensive. Keep sailing!😊

Still can't believe a U.S. warship ran into a freighter a couple years ago. wonder if the shipping lanes have any restrictions near ports for even deep water recreational boaters. I thought boobies had blue feet but then they did have blue beaks. Wonder what cruise ships do to discurouge the birdies coming to roost 🤣🤣🤣 I'm guessing Birdies remind you your part of the earth 😊

Beautiful sail. Nice CAT your friend has. Does this make you want a CAT now or stay Mono haul ?
That was surprising how fast the authorities of the Galapagos wanted you out after their exit inspection. I know people who have been to the Galapagos 30 or so years back. They say it is totally built up and to many people live there now. It's no longer a sanctuary for the marine life and animals that call these islands home. Looking forward to next video

In the U.S. Navy during WWII, sailors had to shave their heads at their first equator crossing.

You should read a book a called 117 Days Adrift by Maurice and Maralyn Bailey. You not very far from where that happened. I read it a day out of the Galápagos heading to Panama in 1984. A venturi kite is unusual, good on cats but a bit more troublesome on a mono

Nice video, love your channel. Birds, they poop on everything and we humans have to clean it all up because of them or suffer from seeing an smelling it. Yes, to those who don't know first hand, it does stink Bad.
I was just thinking about sea and ocean salt. The fresh water makers most boats have now remove the salt from the ocean water so we can use it, so what happens to the salt it removes. Can you pour the extra salty water onto a dryer table to keep the salt crystals and make your own table and cooking salt. I know salt from different countries seem to make different colors and different tastes than regular salt that comes from the ground in deposits deep underground in the mines. Does anyone know what the water maker does with the extra salty water because I'd think it would be sent overboard as waste, but think if you could actually capture that salt. If we could save it and by the time you got to your destination just think about being able to sell or trade it for food or cooking fuel, like propane or white fuel. I think if, an this is a big if, if you could run the discharge salt water waste to a drying table and to save space what about putting the drying trays under the solar panels because the solar panels will help keep birds and other stuff away from the trays while they are drying up the water and leaving only the salt behind. Just some idea i was thinking about here almost at 2am. Ok good night and good luck. Keep your eyes pointed to the front and see where you go next. Good luck and stay safe. Share the Love, it's the glue that holds everything together in our Universe. That is the Truth.
Oh wait, Another question, I've only been on one catamaran many years ago and I was wondering is a double pontoon better or is a triple pontoon better as far as riding the waves for a smoother ride. I know you have more living space having the third pontoon under you. But does it ride better or worse having the third one under you. Thanks from Missouri USA.

On a Cat I assume you do not need a spinnaker pole? Makes life so easy for two!!
