  • Episode #256 : Season 9 : The South Pacific
    Hello Friends,
Well the time had finally come to move on and undertake the next big leg of my circumnavigation. I departed Kona, Hawaii after spending 9 months licking my wounds, repairing Triteia and exploring the Hawaiian Islands.
The passage from Hawaii to the Tuamotus took 26 days and covered 2323nm, which should be the longest passage of my entire circumnavigation.
I want to thank my shore team with special thanks to David Frederick and Sarah Koenig for your help during the crossing.
This episode is being released on the one year anniversary of my arrival to Oahu.
I hope you enjoy this film.

I can’t be the only one, but I enjoy the passage videos more than anything. Even the adventure videos at the destinations are great and beautiful, but there is nothing like the passage documentation. You’re a fine sailor on a fine boat and living a dream. Thank you so much for bringing us along

Definitely not the only one, cruising videos are fine, but this is a solo passage film, just one man and his boat versus the ocean, and James has the right mindset for these passages.
      Not every sailor does.

Yes, I'm a big fan of her video's as well. She also has no AIS which is incredibly difficult for solo sailors to manage without, especially in busy waters.

There is no better feeling than sailing the high seas. I've done it for years in the Submarine Service with US Navy and I take plenty of transatlantic cruises. What people don't understand is not the journey itself but the loneliness. There is no worse feeling than encountering a problem and having no one to help you. I take my hat off to all of you solo sailors. I could do it if I had no choice but, I would never volunteer to do it. I could even do it with one other person but alone, no sir ree. Thank you sir for allowing us to go along from the safety of our home. Much admiration, and blessings to you in all your travels.

This is the first video I've watched of yours and I think I found what I want to do in my older years. I may not do what you're doing alone, but I do love the water. I just bought my first fishing kayak last year, not quite the same vessel lmao, but when I took it out I felt something was missing that I found for some reason. Even in my first season I took that thing out with a pedal drive and a rinky dink pfd much farther than anyone doing a first season should do by themselves, but I was at peace. I wasn't scared and I knew if something happened I would be at peace with it. It's just the place I want to be. I love fishing and I love the water and seeing you do this is like I found that missing feeling again.

I live on the Big Island southern leeward side and have a great view of the Kai/ocean. I don’t see too many sailboats go by, just our local fishing boats and an occasional NOAA. I have gone out with the boys a few times fishing and love it. There’s nothing like being out there, the colors of the water and sky is unbelievable .. Hey James, just discovered you yesterday and can't stop watching. Your channel/content is wholesome and just super relaxing/interesting to follow. Really dig your taste in music, too! Have been dreaming of doing the same and can't not do it. I decided I need this, too. Feel stuck living in a routine, like running on the spot. Life's too precious to worry about risks. I don't wanna die thinking "well, I should have given it a try". People who regret that they haven't lived their dreams. Been backpacking for the past 15 years and almost went into vanlife but found it way too unsustainable and thus expensive. RVs cost double compared to a fair 30ft SV. I will follow along, watch your passages and adventures, and hope that maybe one day we get to shake hands in some random lagoon. You're a very cool person and I am glad you decided to share your journey with us! Enjoy your time in AS. ❤

Being severely sick, this took me away. Thanks for the simplicity and genuineness. What an adventure.

Thanks for the video! I had a nasty wig like your for YEARS. Cutting it off was sooooo freeing. You will love it once you do it.

James I've been sailing since I was 17 yrs old, now 59z. I was inspired by the book the Dove by Robin Graham. You're the modern version of Robin Graham. Awesome footage 🎉thank you!

I’m in the navy and when I’m underway, I think about small boats that may be out to sea. Stay safe out there and happy travels ❤

34:09 Wow, that's crazy. Crazy cool. I figured you'd be tethered, but I can see how safe it is. It really shouldn't matter that you have 16,000 feet below you, but still... I think I'd panic, at least at first. But if I could handle it, I'd want to do the same thing: swim out and see the boat in the middle of the ocean. Really cool.

Man. I bet you get to see some really dope birds. Here in Florida I get to see a lot of sea birds but some you’re just not gonna see unless you’re far out on the water. Especially during certain migratory periods.

Drag anchor on a spar. Much like dragging a paddle in the water to change direction in a canoe. Should be a a 'must' have for long passages. Great video, i really enjoy your content, be safe, and thank you.
