Its funny how things work out..never in a million years would we have imagined spending a few weeks here, but now, we couldn't imagine our sailing adventure taking us anywhere else. Whats a place you have been to that you never expected to go to but ended up falling in love with?
Just when you think getting stranded in a foreign land with a broken down boat, no service available, no money if you can't get to a bank is as bad as it could get but what a blessing to experience the hospitality, the kindness of total strangers who have very little to share themselves and to see that they are willing to do whatever it takes to ease your pain. What a blessing. If it wasn't for the series unfortunate evens you would have been denied all you experienced. The wonderful humans that populate this world and will do for others more than those of us that have more to share than they do. I won't forget them anytime soon, and I am sure neither will you. People who have the least, have the most to share!
After several years of boating channels that's the first time I've seen such amazing generosity showed to humble strangers helping you out. I'm subscribing, I think you're my new favourite channel
Was looking for GoFundMe, then you added the comment about the patreon folk already hitting the target before it got to UA-cam. I actually cried a bit. Such an awesome change for that family. Thank you.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only old man moved to tears over this video. It’s always amazing to me that the people with the least are the most generous and sadly, often the reverse is true.
I follow several You Tubers who have been to Panama, and they all have said that the people of Panama are the friendliest, most generous people of any country that they have visited. It was very kind of you to help them out.
What a kind family I was moved to tears because of all the kindness that was shared in this video. This world could sure take some lessons here. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you it's a fine example of the golden rule on full display.
You two are the best, being humble and being kind, two virtues that the world needs right now...............congratulations, i hope it becomes contagious.
So many sailing channels fall short .. only Sailing Florence produces consistently excellent videos and now you guys have come from nowhere and are already at 100000 subscribers. For me you are right at the top with superb episodes made with top quality editing and always a perfect sound background. You consistently produce brilliant filming coupled with a totally natural presentation. You compliment each other so well, Becka’s heart on the sleeve clips coupled with Zach’s sang froid in difficult moments makes for a wonderful chemistry. Thanks so much.
I've spent a lot of time in Panama and you two are absolutely angels. Such great content, Zack is an absolute rock star, I hope you realize what a great dude he is.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity of your Patreons towards this family. Gives me hope for this world’s future with people like you. Blessings, fair winds and following seas.
Paying it forward does not do justice to the kindness and generosity portrayed in this video. Two families from different backgrounds and languages, showing what the world should and can be. Cheers
it feels so epic to be on this channel before it blows up. there is a lot more work involved in sailing than i ever would've imagined, so it's cool to see someone do it for me and share lol
You two are wonderful examples of humanity. Your thoughtful, giving nature is a lessen to us all. You are a wonderful team, wrestling sailing, mechanical and electrical projects (problems) together. For future raw water pump bearing adventures, at significant savings, consider the following: Inspect the outer race of the bearing. The manufacturer and part number are, typically, identified on the side of the outer bearing race. Order the bearing. Buy a set of brass drift punches and a small gear puller. The gear puller is preferred, but not mandatory. Set the disassembled pump on 2 blocks of wood. Using a hammer and a drift drive the shaft out of the bearing. Employ the bearing puller through the inner race, removing the bearing from the pump body. If a puller is not available use a brass drift and hammer to gently drive the bearing from the pump body. Insert the new bearing on the pump body. Place a socket wrench socket that has an outside diameter slightly smaller that the outside diameter of the outer bearing race against the surface of the outer race. Gently tap the socket to drive the bearing into position in the pump body. Insert the pump shaft into the inner race. Use a drift and hammer to drive the shaft into position. Install impeller, gasket, cover, pump to engine gasket, bolts, rock ‘n roll!
Oh wow ! Best episode yet. You two have the ability to turn misfortune into a blessing, whilst remaining positive, cheerful and supportive of each other and those lovely people you are fortunate enough to meet. I had a similar problem with cooling water just thirty miles off the French coast and , for a while, I was the opposite of positive and cheerful. What you did for that family is something special….. Good Job !
You two are very kind souls. It is totally awesome what you did for the family. Hats off to you. There is nothing more satisfying than helping somebody in need. I am sure they will never forget you and your kind generosity. What a cool story. Cheers from Austin, TX
Not to worry I'll bring my porta potty to help edit10,080 minute long episode. It won't quite be as epic a life changing experience the content of this episode is but none the less enough hard drives fast enough internet to share footage on the OneDrive well be sorted 😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤣 Awesome episode & great story telling.
The lady on the boat is the most genuine person I have ever seen. Our compliments. Advice to our Mate. You are one fortunate fella to have met her. Good luck to you both from Canada.
Roller freak'n coaster!! I'm so glad that the effort to help that family went so well. Quite the community you have built around you two. I really did believe that was was going on during this period would change you forever. It's not like I didn't know you are wonderful people. It's about being put in a situation where you are able to be of use, in a manner never expected. And this is probably to long. Love you. Stay safe. 100k here we come. ❤🙏
Nice job making this 63 year old man cry for the first time in decades 😊 the wonderful gesture of trying to get this family a good internet connection and succeeding so quickly did the job 😥 it's going to make all the difference in the world to them and they deserve it for their kindness and motivation to get a business up and running 👏 well done you two 🫶 love and best wishes from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Becka - Wonderfully heartfelt narration in this video, well-done. Bread: get a small kitchen scale and learn to weigh the ingredients. Water should be about 60% to 70% of the weight of the flour, salt about 2% (i.e. 100 g of flour needs 60-70g of water and about 2 grams of salt). The dough will always be sticky and frustrating to handle until it is worked (kneaded, folded, etc.). Never let the dough win, always wet your hands before handling it. There isn't any reason to fool around with sourdough unless you have some specific need to do it; bakers' yeast works great, is always reliable and is available everywhere. Try not to overthink breadmaking. You guys get a ++ for perseverance. Steve Schroeder
Save the old pump, go to a bearing and seal store, get new parts and rebuild it. The store will be able to recommend a rebuilder if they can not do it. These pumps are very easy to rebuild!
Great episode guys! Good on you both for seeing the opportunity you have to do good. Thank you for that. Becca your enthusiasm for life's challenges and successes makes me feel younger every week. Zach keep being the best companion for that wonderful young lady. 100k here you come!!!
OMG that intro was perfection! Ive watched the first 60s over and over! Well done, top notch editing. Seriously, please make a short of just the first 60s, i could just let that play.
This isolation by a remote isle of Panama somehow reminds me of the early days of covid isolation, so, very different but still relatable to us armchair sailors. Thanks for sharing about quotidien issues like cash supply, it's just fascinating. On a separate note, just last week I was vicariously celebrating seeing your subscriber count at 96k, this week you're at 97k, and soon you'll be closing in on "the big 100k," as Zach says. You're doing amazing, keep going--fair winds!
They said in the last film that the locals were still suffering because of the drop in tourism due to covid. If that guys trusting you with his boat ...living out there ...he really trusts you guys. 👍🏼
Great episode guys! The grease in the propeller is to ensure that all inside parts stays "fresh" and not sticky or corrosion starts. When you install a new propeller you can put a bit of crease on the rubber and sidewall of the pump. First startup will enable smooth start of the material. Then, bleeding nipple should be on highest point (top side). Air is lighter than water and that air can be the culprit for the pump bearing failure. When engine is running, the air in the water can create a dry spot bubble at the hottest turing area which will be the pump bearing. Note: i'm not an expert but have some knowledge on water pumps.
Powerful words Becka. Great that you got placed in that place and at that time to experience it. Unforgettable experience. Great team effort sorting out the starlink, hopefully it's the catalyst for the family to return to sustainability. Hope you're both well. Loved the video
I guess being in the right place at the right time paid off! This has definitely been one of our favourite places to far. We can't wait to give you all an update about the starlink when they get it!
That is incredible that you raised the money already! I don't have much, but wanted to help where I can! Absolutely loved the video! Incredibly wholesome! Love from Poole Harbour
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a magnificent episode making a 60 year old English man cry. This is better than Netflix's. God bless you both kind wonderful people. Ian living in remote Thailand
The screw on your pump is not a bleed screw it actually holds the squish plate inplace inside the pump. The pumps are self priming , the impeller is covered in lubricant to protect it until the pump is self primed. When you change your impeller it is important you use a water based lubricant to protect it also. Washing up liquid is great for this.
Doesn't this prove the saying " A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet." The boating/cruising family is usually very open and helpful. I stumbled across your site and find your videos very attractive, relaxing, and calming. Also, as a suggestion, when something breaks or wears out on your boat, it's just telling you to get two of the item. One to get you going and a spare for when it breaks again. Water pumps( both open and closed) starter, alternator, injectors, dual batteries, two tool sets (say for when you drop your one and only 9/16th deep socket overboard...). You get the Idea. Also, if you don't already have it, a maintenance, repair/rebuild manual for the engine. Fair winds and following seas!
Thank you both for helping your new found family and letting us be apart of it! I was not here early enough to contribute to the go fund me, so just be on the look out for a little something to help out however it can! Thanks so much for showing your love for others!
Hey guys, just a few notes re: the impeller and raw water pump. It doesn't matter which way the blades are facing as the engine always positions them the proper way at startup. Similarly, the impeller is greased because lubrication is vital to prevent damage on startup (dry). One should always grease the impeller or use dish soap at install. It protects damage, but also makes install easier. If no paper gasket on the housing, I recommend Perfect Seal by Permatex. It works well for applications like these. The hole in the pump housing is probably a drain for winterizing. Almost all raw water pumps are self-priming. A lot of raw water pumps have drains though. Regards, Drew
Hi, the schematics are right, the ripple is suposed to be up as it is to bleed the air out of the system. A common feature on pumps. Beautifull place and lovely people. You could always sell some diesel for cash..
Bearing failure is usually due to lack of lubricant, make sure oil is getting to the bearing, it did look very dry! Good luck John from Wellingborough, central UK
Short of ready cash...For years we have always kept an amount of cash safely hidden for emergencies. We call it our safety net money. The trick is to forget it's there until needed and a couple of times it has been a godsend. What a beautiful thing you have done for that family with the Starlink.
I have a tip for the chef. I learned this taking a salsa making class in Mexico. When you scrape your ingredients off the cutting board, flip your knife over and use the back of it. That way it doesn’t dull your blade. (And it’s typically flatter)
What an episode. Not this video, but the whole breakdown experience... You have made friends for life there... You have changed their lives and bought them into this century... Kindness is free and the rewards are endless... Good life lesson here. Well done you two... You do make a difference...
A man who likes to and is willing to cook is worth gold bullion! That bread looked amazing, Zach. Becka, your sourdough bread looked delicious! Love you kids! Safe travels. ❤
Definitely, the screw should have been at the top to bleed the air out of the system, then the pump would have pumped immediately. Whenever you have time and in a place where you have access to parts, the rubber impeller needs to be checked for wear, and the coupling rotated with the bleeding screw to the top.
FYI the raw water impeller fins run in the correct direction the first time you start the engine, regardless of how the impeller was installed. So happy you got the much need part. Cheers!
I totally agree with all the kind comments. But their generosity is not that unusual when you are cruising. I have experienced it both ways so many years ago. Yet what Becka and Zack did for the family would not have been possible back then. Kudos to them for figuring out how to connect that family to the outside world.
And after your feeling for the first time of isolation , you were never alone 'cause we were all there with yous 😄. Language is no barrier for humanity. Well done, great videos.
What an emotional filled episode. You both are so generous and thoughtful. I believe it is a testament to your patrons also. Best wishes and I am so happy that I found your channel and am addicted. ❤
The impeller will adapt to either rotation within one revolution - you don’t need to set it one way or the other. The screw on the side locates the cam and shouldn’t be removed unless you want to replace the cam. The pump will self-bleed.
Sooooo moving! And heartwarming to the core. Getting to those remote places where people just know the real meaning of human generosity, without agenda or profit is the most rewarding and enriching experience. You are so fortunate to experience that first hand, and I hope you will endeavor to seek out those places and people. I can assure you they are all over world. It was greatest gift I found in the years of our circumnavigations. I personally always came away with far more valuable things than we ever reciprocated... enduring things. To learn from so many, primarily indigenous, people around the globe how their value system is based on how much one can give, aid and share with another. While in the western world it's generally the opposite- how much can we get, instead of give. That was a completely life changing experience for me. So yes, you will be charged forever. Kudos to you for being out there at all, but also for sharing the really valuable experiences, beyond idyllic anchorages. Well worth all the challenges!! Hats off to you both! Onward!!
I watch you every week but really felt as you did that a simple life can be a really happy one. I have donated as I want to help you look after this family that showed amazing generosity. How humbling!
Zac and Becky, another great video! I look forward to each and every episode and keep up the great work. I know it is not easy, when life gives you lemons - making something great. Be safe and great sailing.
I'm not at all surprised you guys have almost 100k subscribers, of all the sailing channels i watch, and there's many, this is by far my favorite. The quality of your videos and content is excellent. Keep up the good work guys and good on everybody for helping that Panamanian family.👍🇦🇺
Whats crazy is people dont realize when you dream of something or have a goal and stick to it anything is possible... I remember watching the first few videos of you in the process of buying the boat, first time seeing it, and then to fixing it up and even your first ever sail.... To now this. I absolutely love your story and adventure... It inspires me even though our lives are totally different from one another yet there are so many things I can learn from you two regardless of sailing... 🙏
Congratulations on substantially improving your new friend's lives. That was a magnificent gesture on your part. God be with you, bless you, and protect you and your sailboat.
Another great video. Zach, didn’t see any earplugs when you were cleaning the hull. Those little micro organisms can get into ear canal and cause havoc !
You were very lucky to have your engine fail just when it did what a great experience. I lived in PNG back in 95 to 2001 went to some amazing places and met similar people always willing to help . I am always amazed how people say O look at these poor people no tv modern stuff but their children about 10 year old would paddle by a K off shore in a wooden canoe with some fish in it say hi and keep going and always with a big smile on their face rich doesn't always equal lots of cash.
Hi Becka and Zach. What an amazing episode. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Thank goodness for friends; old and new. Thank you also, for your generosity towards your new friends, who kept you in food and used their extended family, to get your new Pump safely to you. Thank You to all your Patreon patrons, for coughing up the readies in double-quick time, so you could keep your promise to Edwin and Rosalina, your Panamanian friends. I hope the Starlink and Internet will enable them to run their Guest House and make themselves Self-Sufficient in the future. Until next time... Fair Winds and Following Seas. Russ. UK
What an adorable couple you two make. I just love seeing your videos and how you two interact. You're both so genuine and authentic. All the very best to you both.
Yall I love your spirit and God Bless. It has been tough up here in Fairhope, Alabama in my Retail store because of the whole mess that started in 2020. I'm sending a couple of dollars to you myself to help those people get setup. A Christian War Corresdent lives in Panama and his life is devoted to helping people make money passively and actively. Chuck Holton and The Hot Zona. I almost consider him a friend since Oct 7th. Yes Oct 7th has been deeply felt by a lot of People. Thank you for being good people ❤️. -Cliff Battleship Marine Supply Fairhope, Alabama Thanks!
@12:29 😳🤔💁👍👍👍 It looks like sourdough, and soon as I heard you ripping the paper off and begin sawing on it... I knew it was going to be perfect, Good job!!! 👍👍👍
Becka: It is a beautiful experience how simply you have shared the profound impact your environment and the people who have shared their lives with you. God bless and keep you as you share with others and then convey what you have gained with those who follow yours and Zacs journey. Love you both. An old Sailor with a young mind. John K
I just paused when you said “link is below” went to look for it forever, restarted the episode just to hear the patriots paid for it already😊. Well done, I’m so happy you were able to get this sorted so quickly and your engine going again. You guys are legends❤
Ow guys so pleased for you and what an amazing thing you have done for those people out of all the boats that come and go over the years you were the ones that 😊have changed their lives for ever well done x
To quicken up your bread to rise quickly. Place it in your cold oven and then place a bowl of boiling hot water in with it .Close the door the steam will help it rise quicker.
Its funny how things work out..never in a million years would we have imagined spending a few weeks here, but now, we couldn't imagine our sailing adventure taking us anywhere else.
Whats a place you have been to that you never expected to go to but ended up falling in love with?
Wish the rest of the world were like you two, no false drama and helping others when needed 👏👏👏❤️
I love your stories! Thanks for sharing your life.

Who knew a broken boat could lead to such a heartwarming tale? The two of us definitely won't be forgetting them anytime soon 😊
A truly moving episode and slowly catching your videos up to a live status and your support for this family is lovely. Well done guys
Teulu Tribe, This episode deserves an award. “Bloody Doing It!”
After several years of boating channels that's the first time I've seen such amazing generosity showed to humble strangers helping you out. I'm subscribing, I think you're my new favourite channel
They are absolutly worth your time!
Was looking for GoFundMe, then you added the comment about the patreon folk already hitting the target before it got to UA-cam. I actually cried a bit. Such an awesome change for that family. Thank you.
Same here!!!😢
Becka and Zach, the world needs more folks just like you two. All the best to you both from Brisbane, Australia.
Gradually people are restoring my faith in humanity!! You guys are legends!!

Cheers
What a moving and incredible episode. People helping people…love it!
it feels so epic to be on this channel before it blows up. there is a lot more work involved in sailing than i ever would've imagined, so it's cool to see someone do it for me and share lol
Thanks Joseph, it definitely isn’t the easiest at times but it is always worth it!
You two are wonderful examples of humanity. Your thoughtful, giving nature is a lessen to us all.
You are a wonderful team, wrestling sailing, mechanical and electrical projects (problems) together.
For future raw water pump bearing adventures, at significant savings, consider the following:
Inspect the outer race of the bearing.
YES! These longer episodes are where its at!
You guys rock. Love the channel!
So Very Proud of you both, Becka and Zach, helping that family recover from the pandemic setback. Very Nice Video all around. Fair Winds 😎
They are such kind people, if anyone deserves it they do!

Watched this channel from the beginning, but that was a genuinely awesome thing to do to help people, who helped you. Paying it forward ❤️
All I can say is “Bloody brilliant!”. Amazing guys. Happy onward travels.
You’re now producing National Geographic level viewer experience. Nuff said.
What a great experience, video. And the ~crowdfunding was so deserved for these people.
They have showed us so much kindness, it was the least we could do for them 😊
Awesome love to see how you two handle trials and tribulations great video!
This is such a lovely episode... I actually teared up during your goodbyes. What an amazing family
So I took a week off from work, bought snacks and supplies and a porta potty, only to find out that this episode is not a week, but 47 minutes.
Ahaha we might have to hire an army of editors to make an episode 10,080 minutes long 😅
Not to worry I'll bring my porta potty to help edit10,080 minute long episode. It won't quite be as epic a life changing experience the content of this episode is but none the less enough hard drives fast enough internet to share footage on the OneDrive well be sorted 😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
Awesome episode & great story telling.
Lol! Great plan, though!

It's been a roller coaster indeed, but we're strapped in for the ride! Thanks for being a part of our crazy journey Steve 😊
So kind of you supporting the family, such a selfless act! Hope you are sailing safe!

So happy for this family. What a blessing in a way that your engine had trouble when and where it did.
Everything happens for a reason 😊
That was a good one!
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, so simple yet so profound, Love you Guys from South Africa
Regards,
Drew
Hi, the schematics are right, the ripple is suposed to be up as it is to bleed the air out of the system. A common feature on pumps.
Beautifull place and lovely people.
You could always sell some diesel for cash..
That is a big number, and well deserved. Best wishes to you both.
Cheers Brian!
Bearing failure is usually due to lack of lubricant, make sure oil is getting to the bearing, it did look very dry! Good luck John from Wellingborough, central UK
My thoughts exactly. Good thing they've got a spare, I think they're going to need it soon.
Amazing adventure! Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure! 😊
A man who likes to and is willing to cook is worth gold bullion! That bread looked amazing, Zach. Becka, your sourdough bread looked delicious! Love you kids! Safe travels. ❤
Thanks for the compliment! Cooking is my jam.
@@TeuluTribe, and Banana Nut bread too! YUM!
Definitely, the screw should have been at the top to bleed the air out of the system, then the pump would have pumped immediately. Whenever you have time and in a place where you have access to parts, the rubber impeller needs to be checked for wear, and the coupling rotated with the bleeding screw to the top.
if you would not have broken down. Would you have been able to spend the time to help out the Air BNB. Great job. Life is not to be rushed
FYI the raw water impeller fins run in the correct direction the first time you start the engine, regardless of how the impeller was installed. So happy you got the much need part. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your adventures, a big hug from Barcelona
I'm glad you enjoyed our adventures! Sending hugs back to Barcelona😊
Well done everyone! Really generous!
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Zac and Becky, another great video! I look forward to each and every episode and keep up the great work. I know it is not easy, when life gives you lemons - making something great. Be safe and great sailing.
You showed incredible generosity in this video, gave me goose bumps! Loving the videos as always
I'm not at all surprised you guys have almost 100k subscribers, of all the sailing channels i watch, and there's many, this is by far my favorite. The quality of your videos and content is excellent. Keep up the good work guys and good on everybody for helping that Panamanian family.👍🇦🇺
Danke!
Thanks so much!
Glad you got it fixed, but what an adventure and new connection with some great people! Thanks for helping them. A life changer for them!
it's kind people like you that can help change the world one person at a time or family. that a very nice thing you guys did
Another great video.
All the very best to you both.
be careful you two... you're so good at helping people that you might want to do this in every village you visit. I mean, you're SO SO GOOD AT IT!!!
Zak & Becka that screw should be on top, it's a priming port
What an awesome outcome, well done you both. Thank you for your wonderful example of kindness, if only the "world leaders" could learn from you.
Yall
I love your spirit and God Bless.
It has been tough up here in Fairhope, Alabama in my Retail store because of the whole mess that started in 2020.
I'm sending a couple of dollars to you myself to help those people get setup.

@12:29 😳🤔💁👍👍👍
It looks like sourdough, and soon as I heard you ripping the paper off and begin sawing on it...
Love this... Love your heart for others in the midst of your own issues with the boat!
To quicken up your bread to rise quickly.
Place it in your cold oven and then place a bowl of boiling hot water in with it .Close the door the steam will help it rise quicker.
Another great video. It was really nice of you to help out that family.
