Honestly for this price point, this projector should support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ as well as 3d. I feel like projectors are so behind the curve when it comes to technology that has been in televisions for nearly 5 years now.
Totally agree with you. A big step from the previous generation, but a small step behind at the same time. I was really looking forward to the next generation of this projector, but I'm kind of disappointed that they removed 3D. This is a "no go" for me.
They not adding it intentionally.... Every technology is in their hands...and no home theatre projector is worth more than $2000
Loved the review, straight to the point.
Thank you! 😀
So cool! Nice review and excellent video editing.
Thank you very much!😀
A fair review without all the unnecessary blabbing. Great job.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the kind words. :)
Nice review thanks :)
Thanks for watching!
Great review, now I don't know what to buy. By the way, was that a heat vent I saw right above your projector?
Do you recommend I go though Benq for replacement lamps ? Really hoping for insight hear thanks anyways.
I love Epson. For the true projected image, and 3D. It is my favourite from the projections I have tried. And I have a long story, with viewing a few projectors, and great customer service with their second HD 3D Projector released. And it still is working fantastic. Back then there was no calibration disc for 3D projection so I made my own and offered it to the Theatre Forums for free back in the day. I hope everyone who grabbed that ISO file and were able to burn it onto a Bluray Disc got great use of it. Really want a 3D UDH Projector from Epson soon. Although I still have a brand new bulb thanks to Epsons great customer service in the states who helped me test and go through many issues I saw with their first line of 3D projectors. - Toronto, Canada.
Great review! Thanks! I was convinced to buy one of these, except when you said that it doesn't support 3D. That's a shame for such an advanced and expensive projector. I wonder why they decided to remove something that was already working fine from the previous generation. A few more tweaks and it would've worked great on this version. Oh, well. I'll keep looking as 3D is still very relevant to me. I have a big list of titles that I'm not ready to get rid of anytime soon.
Excellent review and spot on. New Subscriber.
Thank you very much!😀
Is there a follow-up/refresh to this projector coming in the next year or so?
Does the wide angle optical zoom in this projector reduces image quality on zooming to 2.1x mode...
If you compare this to the EH-TW 7100 ? What’s the main differences ?
Also is your previous projector a Panasonic PT 4000 U? I had that for 12 years. That was an amazing projector
I just looked at in person and I was stunned by how much the image popped even v the "native" Sony. I watched side by side almost and this Epson was better IMO. I didn't see any rainbow effect and the blacks were nearly as good as my OLED, although I would have to watch a comparison. It is comparable to Sony size wise.
Perfect video for me....replacing my Panasonic AE3000 with this sucker and wondered if it was worth it....looks like it's a go.
Curious what you’re comparing the Epsons black levels to because I know it Has to be worlds better than your previous panasonic right?
I intend to buy a projector and build a Cinema room, and I was wondering, is 120inch good, can the Epsom reviewed here display 150 inches or am I just being greedy? I really want that cinema feel but with 4k and HDR but do you lose these the more you stretch the image and if so are there other projectors that have similar features such as 120mhz and low lag for gaming?
Was that the same Panasonic PT-AE3000U projector I have?
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Fantastic review. Your old and new projector shelves are elegantly simple & beautiful, and they also appear to be both highly stable and effective. Did you custom-make them from 2X4s?
Thank you very much! I used 2x6s for the frame and 3/4 plywood for the shelf.😀
@@TwoGuyzTech So impressive. If it’s not too late, I, and I’m sure others, would not mind seeing a video on you designed and built those shelves. It’s especially impressive that you built one for that massive Epson.
Great review as I’m looking to also replace my Panasonic ae8000u projector now is this one capable of producing the 2:35:1 format for an 125 inch wide screen?
Thank you! The projector can display a 2.40:1 image for use with an anamorphic lens, and should easily be able to do 125 inches. Hope this helps.
No 3D is a definitive deal breaker for me. Gonna keep my old Epson. Thank you for the great review
Yeah I didn't realize 3D was still so popular, may have been a mistake on Epson's part not to include it. Thanks for watching!
Ditto, I still don’t know if the new Epson LCD full UHD vobulated panels (till now they had 1/2 UHD vobulation, without FI enabled in UHD mode) have innate limits with 3D, or there are problems with their laser system, that could be improved in the future, otherwise it is like a insult to customers and it’s censorship towards all 3D works, hundreds of movies on Blu-ray 3D, and personal / family videos taken with 3D camcorders which are meant to be seen as the director wanted (not only Cameron, Scorsese, Ben Stassen…) and how WE wanted and paid for all Blu-ray 3D discs otherwise we should ask a refund if 3D hardware will become unavailable. For me on the shelf forever to all products intentionally deprived of 3D function, which is basically free of charge by Moore’s law since 2015, unless the removal is due to risky overwhelming technical issues. There are almost a billion of old 3D TVs, out there, many sold used for just 100-300$ for 32-65” including Panasonic plasma TVs, to upgrade to UHD HDR, or just for local DVB T2 future switch off instead of buying a cheap decoder. I absolutely prefer my new-old 40” 3D TV (bought used for 150$ months ago, it was a top 1500$ TV ten years before) than a 120” ‘new’ FLAT picture (I own and still use also a Epson 2045 3D pj however) for my family contents and for the 3D documentaries, movies and cartoons I bought.
@@TwoGuyzTech It's not popular but there are a few dinosaurs that won't let go. More and more companies are dropping it. What is the last movie that has been released in 3D....I'll wait?
@@Analyzer52 the newThor movie will be in 3D
@@randito70030 what's that the only movie in the last 6 years? People just don't Ike being told no...most people that complain about 3D probably use it less than 10% of the time they watch count.
do i need 1.3 gain screen when my screen size is 135"? distance is about minimum 4.1 meter
Thank you for another GREAT review! This must be the projector for the theater we are building. I have a specific question related to a grey screen. My current design is being set up for theater 2.35:1 screen of 150"... (12' x 5').
I saw your grey screen recommendations but did not notice 150" in the theater/movie format (2.35:1) aspect ratio. I have FULL light control in this dedicated room, but want to improve that INKY Black you spoke about.
Do you have a recommendation of two? What is the Ideal "Gain Screen Material" (1.2, 1.5...?) for INKY Black in a Full Dark room?
Additionally, my room is 19' deep so I wonder if I must mount my projector behind the back wall too?
Cheers,
Eric
Hey thank you very much for the support! We really appreciate it. :)
The first thing that we want to be clear about is that we do not personally have experience using grey screen material or ALR material in our theater. These are normally recommended for non-light controlled rooms or situations where a lot of light can be reflecting back on to the screen (for example if you have white walls).
We personally think that the EliteScreens are a great budget screen, but unfortunately it doesn't look like they offer a 150" 2.35:1 option. There are other manufacturers like Stewart, Screen Innovations, etc. that I'm sure offer these screens but they will come at a significantly higher cost.
One thing to keep in mind as well is that, as your projected image gets bigger, it won't be as bright as the light isn't nearly as concentrated. This is even more significant when you have a 2.35:1 image, where you have to zoom the projector even more to make the image fit properly. So for these reasons we would probably recommend a higher gain screen, probably of at least 1.3 or more. White material can also work if you have absolutely no reflections/light bleed bouncing back on to the screen, and this might actually be preferable if you want that big of an image, as colors could start to look a little dim at that size on a grey screen.
An example of complete light control would be velvet on the walls and ceilings to stop ANY reflections that could cause the blacks on the screen to look brighter.
In the end, we would recommend consulting with a screen/projector pro or your installer if you're working with one to help make the best decision, as there are always so many different variables that come in to play.
Thanks again and I hope this helps!
@@TwoGuyzTech Thank you Brother!
In the new home & theater we are designing, we could paint any colors or velvet any color on the walls.
If Velvet Curtains are best we could plan that right from the start. After watching your theater progression, I kind of wanted to do thr best I could from the start.
Cheers,
Eric
Hey no problem! Thank you very much again for the support. We wish you all the best on your build :) Keep us posted if you don't mind!
how is focus uniformity? full corner to corner focus like epson says?
Nice review and excellent video editing. Still don't know how you were able to snag an LS12000 so fast. LOL Enjoy your upgrade!!

what is the watts that big thing consuming 😅
Excellent review, I cant wait to get mine though they are still targeting early August for delivery. What do you have your center channel mounted on?
Thank you! the center channel mount is a combo of 2 different kinds of L-brackets and parts from a TV mount. I had to Frankenstein it together because no one sells a mount that can support the weight of my center.
May I ask you what your screen size is going to be for your home theater project? Is it 120 inch, 150, 200? I'm curious! Let me know.
@@supercoolmunkee if this question was for me I’m planning 120” but my room is only 12x14 for seating with another 4’ behind that can hold the projector at about 15’ throw distance.
@@joshuaphillips3974 Wow, 120 inch! Sounds exciting! Good luck on your project! Let us know how that worked out!
Will it support for 165inch screen
You think it's better than the AWOL 3500?
Is there a projector of this quality which can game and play 3D movies?
If you use 100% lightoutput it will decreased the lifespan?
Epson EB x06 is only for presentation ???
No 3D tho.
My main reason for not getting this projector.
Been using my 5050ub for 3 years now. Never replaced the bulb once. Never got dim at all actually. It's actually more vibrant due to me playing with the advanced settings.
Yes, we have also tested the 5050ub, and its performance is very good.
@@screen661 wish one you think gives you the best picture. I don’t care if I have to change the bulb
I have been using a 5050UB for the last two years as well and absolutely LOVE it. Curious, what are the settings you're using?
@@AjmerSingh1 I use 5050ub, 2600 ANSI lumen brightness. With a 120-inch ALR screen (about $580usd), I found the HD OK.

I use Epsom 5350 1080p it's old but iam still happy with it. It has 3D. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing!
No 3D is a bummer tho!! 😔
JVC NZ7 (twice the price, Native 4K, 8K, 4K 120p) still king.
Hi Rob will the lack of native 4k be a deal breaker when in come to watching streaming content?
Not even 4k pixel shifted...massive fail...
I am still not clear if this is true 4K or 1080P x 4 via some pixel shifting. I'd love to find a Native 4K, 120hz, low latency short throw laser projector. The short throw is optional. 3D would be a nice plus.
“True’ and “native” are the correct terms. No this is not a native 4k projector but it can produce a “true” 4k image so it is not a 1080P image. It uses pixel shifting to create the true 4k image were as the Sony and JCV models are “Native” projectors. Those are the only two companies that have the native 4k chip. This is still a really good projector for the price.
@@scotttild I didn't realise there was only 2 people with a 4k native chip. Thanks for the clarification. I'm looking forward to 4k 120hz native laser projectors with low Input lag but they aren't quite here yet it seems
I want to see side by side video of the Sony xw5000 ,which is $1000.00 more but true 4k , not a pixel shifter..The Epson looks beautiful..
I just looked at Both this new Epson and the Sony "native" projector and I can say that the Epson is on par if not better than the Sony. The Epson is brighter and the colors really pop. I thought pixel shifters where not that great but I can say this new Epson is outstanding. I was thinking the same exact thing you are.
@@scotttildhahahaahahaha.
The blscks on Sony destroy Epson. Might want to go back and look again, if you actually even did compare
would this be an upgrade worth over the ub6050?
Thanks for watching! Honestly we haven't been able to compare it to the 6050, so we can't make an honest comparison. Hope this helps.
I don't have this projector, but I do have the UB6050. On specs alone, the LS12000 beats it. The image is brighter, the resolution is higher, the bulb lasts longer, etc. Unfortunately, though, if you care for 3D, keep in mind that Epson removed 3D support for the LS12000. If that's not a feature you're interested in, then I'd totally consider getting the LS12000.
This could be a Panacea projector
The problem is that can't change laser is all units
I bet the new Sony laser in this price range will have better blacks with its higher native contrast. My last Sony 4k projector was pretty decent in this area & I am an oled guy.
Watching all these reviews I've come to the same conclusion. The new sony's have great blacks although trying to confirm if the 5000 has the same blacks as the 6 and 7000 models with better lenses?
the Sony lasers lack hdmi 2.1 if that is a deal breaker for some people tho
The only way to know if the Sony has better black levels is to do a side by side comparison. Sparechange did a comparison between the Epson LS11000 and a JVC NZ7, which is twice the price of the Epson, and he did notice the blacks being better, with more detail on the JVC. The LS11000 has about half the contrast ratio of the LS12000. The Sony 5000es is $1000 more and if you consider the included mount with the Epson it's a $1300 difference. The Epson has HDMI 2.1 at 48Gbps compared to the Sony HDMI 2.0 18Gbps, this is huge not only for gaming but also guarantees the projector will be compatible with future content. The 5000es is using the same lens as the previous generation of projectors, in order to get the new lens you have to move up to the 6000es which is $12000. The Sony also lacks motorized zoom, shift and focus which I know from experience can be very inconvenient. The Sony is a native 4K projector so it may be capable of a sharper image, but again the only way to know for sure is to do a side by side, which I would love to do. Sony makes great products and their previous projectors have been some of the best out there, but we wont know how well these new units perform until more people are able to get their hands on them to test them out. Thanks for watching! :)
@@TwoGuyzTech Are you also gonna do a review of the LS11000? It would be good what the differences are between for the 1k difference.
And the sony is native 4k and not pixel shift
Is this capable of 2:35:1 format?
I believe it does 2:40:1
Thanks
The poor black levels is why the JVC projectors are the better choice. But I ordered this one because 12K for the JVC Laser NZ7 is too much money. It will obsolete in 5 years so better to spend 5K now and 5K in 5 years.
I am an Epson guy but this Epson is not nearly as good or good value as a JVC or Epson 5050UB when it comes to picture quality and the features you mentioned.
great review! However, the Epson LS1200 appears so large in an apartment that it is better suited for a theater or a large house. I like how portable XGIMI's designs are. I can easily move the projector from the living room to my bedroom and watch movies anywhere I want.
Its actually not that bigger than most of the projectors, or compared to the JVC which is really big. I just looked at it at Best Buy and it is better then the Sony.

I had the same problem happen to me, ended up replacing the HDMI cable and it worked fine again.
The best part about this projector (about ANY Epson projector in fact) is it is a 3-chip projector and therefore totally immune to any rainbow effect (RBE) artifact. Most of the other flotsam of projectors, which has a very wide price range ($100 to $10K), are miserably single-DLP. All and any of the fancy new tech in them (separate lasers for R, G, B, UST, high lumen output, etc) are all undermined by the necessity of sequential color, which any single-chip projector must employ, and therefore produce massive amounts of RBE that can induce headaches in those sensitive to it. It's unfortunate that, while most people do not see RBE (or learn how to tune it out), reviewers and shillers of single-DLP barely talk about it. The unpredictability of RBE is why professional projector installations (like in cinemas) will NEVER use single-DLP; only 3-chip, like this epson is.
I agree. I didn't see any rainbow effect and it looked better then the Sony.
Rocking optoma DLP 1080p Laser with 5000lumens still nothing to upgrade to sadly. paid 20€ for it hahahah.
JVC and others....there are projectors that go well past $200,000. Optima is an entry level brand.
But you would think by now projectors would be native 4k and not pixel shift
I agree!
Money, money, money... That's the reason, unfortunately.
Hope for a 3D version, otherwise I'm out. Not only for 3D movies, but because Stereo3D is expected to do a come back in next gen games. Not that they expect revenue in the projector niche but mainly because game studios will need to support Stereo 3D for VR / metaverse anyway (there are huge investments on this), so for them the effort to also support it for 3D projectors comes "for free".
Agreed. 3D was already there in the previous generation. It would've probably taken them very little efforts to keep it there and make this model a real next generation, not a step back.
3D is being phased out because of lack of sales.
The Epson is much better than my old Sony 4K projector. Try watching some TV or Sports content with a bit of natural light and the Sony can't cut it.
It was awesome to finally see ya'll testing a projector! 👍👌
For the price of $2,700 the LG hu810p laser projector outperforms the Epson hands down. Wish you could have gotten a review model when they were available last year.
Keep up the awesome content! 💯👍👏
Yeah man, we really enjoyed reviewing this projector :) Thanks for watching! We appreciate it as always.
Does the LG outperform the Epson because of the price point in your opinion, or does it just plain out perform the Epson regardless of price?!
@@tonyg03 I would say mostly because of price point for such an awesome image. In comparison they both have strengths and weaknesses.

The price is mentioned in the first 25 seconds of the video, $5000.
Many thanks for your review, for me…. Epson dropped a bollock in dropping the 3D on this model. Upgrading from my old Epson EH-TW9200 to an Epson LS1200 in favour of just pixel shift 4k and the loss of 3D capability is a real deal breaker. That would feel like a downgrade in some respects, and render my 3D movie collection useless. It’s real shame, as 3D is one of the main reasons I go for a projector, as TV’s have dropped this function. Unless Epson brings out a revamped vs of this unit with 3D, I for one, will be forced to look elsewhere.
The Epson LS1200 projector is designed for use in business and classroom settings. It has a high brightness level and can project images up to 100 inches in size. It also has a number of features that make it easy to use, including an auto-keystone correction function and a variety of input and output options.
@@trendyprojectors4743 That would make sense if Epson did not stick it under the home section of there website, and that previous LS models prior to the LS11000 did not support 3D. I just think, if Epson included 3d support in these new LS models , like they did on previous models, they would of had a bigger market place,.
Whats with all the boomers who want 3D?? Yall weird af. Shit was gimmicky-ass feature to get people into cinemas and makes every movie its in worse.

Can't disagree more. Although I hardly go to the cinema these days, maybe once every two years due to cost and distance, but I do love to watch a good 3d movie at home on the big screen, like The Walk, a fantastic movie that fits the 3d presentation perfectly. I would very much prefer to watch that in 3d over 4k anyday. It gives the movie much more then just a gimmick approach, but a sense of being there instead.
I agree with you. I have a collection of 3D movies that I really want to keep. No 3D is a no-go for me. Also 3D modeling and VR development greatly benefits from having a 3D monitor / projector. Too bad this isn't one of them.
But shifting is not true native 4k!!
Can’t decide between this and the lamp based Sony on a heavy discount. I could get the Sony and a 65inch oled for daytime viewing, or just the epson. Damn it! If the epson came in white, I wouldn’t be having this dilemma

3D is DEAD....just a fad..just like Betamax.
So for 6k its not even true 4k? It’s still using pixel shifting and not native 4k? Is that right? Wow bummer
Well you can pay 8K for the JVC or 12K for the Sony with automatic lens and I would bet that in a side by side you would not tell the difference or if you could it would be so minor you really have to question spending double to get a Native 4k or you could spend 6 and get the native Sony but you don’t get HDR 10 and you don’t get a motorized lens.
I prefer DLP

Don't pair this projector with a Roku as it isn't HDCP 2.2 compatible. Can't even watch 4K content through Roku on this expensive piece of plastic.
Roku...you still using that outdated VCR? Lmao!
When will epson make a true native 4K projector instead of making pixel shifters? Until then, epson cannot play with the true 4K machines. No 3D ?? Deal breaker
Agreed 100%. I have been waiting for 4K native for many years but seems like they'll never do it. The problem is not only the resolution itself as this projector can display all 4K pixels through shifting, but the problems will come later when the convergence fail due to minute differences in the individual LCD displays. That's going to be a mess that I don't want to be a part of! Also, if the shifting driver fails, you'll have no projector. Too many points of failure for this price in my opinion.
About 3D, this was my deal-breaker too. I have a collection of 3D movies and games that I refuse to get rid of. Also, 3D modelers and VR developers could've really benefited from 3D. Sometimes companies cut the wrong corners in my opinion. How difficult would've been to update their already working 3D driver from the previous generation? How much did they save? Was it worth it? Probably not. LS12000 is 3 steps forward, but 2 steps behind.
@@miguel4063 I have over 50 3D movies, so why are projector manufacturers going away from 3D?
That's expensive. XGIMI is better for me.
but why ? whats the point of this? if you're gonna do all that just buy a tv at this point
Godzilla is measured in feet and yards.....NOT in inches! A tiny 85 inch box just won't cut it...size does matter.
average grey looking black level! = DEAL BREAKER!! My $30 chinese 720p BS cheapo projector from Walmart think has better black levels!!??? Epson, that is! ..unacceptable!! Used to own the 5020 and 5030ub models, which has OK black levels compared to the JVC's 10 years ago. I'm disappointed if those LCD panel tech implementations haven't improved all that much. I'd stick with JVC likely then
You may want to actually watch the video, at no point did we say the projector has "average grey looking black levels". And I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say if you like the black levels on your $30 projector you would be blown away by the Epson.
@@TwoGuyzTech Ok thanks. So then the Epson has equal or near equal the black levels that my JVC RS25u had - which was world class in that department, btw?! Just to confirm. Because , after decades, if Epson can't even match the overall black levels in dark scenes on that JVC, then I'm STILL disappointed! Like I said, my Azeus LED projector I paid $30 for has pretty damn good black levels, in even the most difficult to average black level scenes, SHOCKINGLY!! (and I've seen A LOT of high end projector presentations over the decades, and owned 5 different JVC's!! -and 3 epsons :-). What's the REAL scoop on the Epson?!! Cause black level is at the top of pretty much EVERY videophiles priority list, I assure you
@@brianchristopher4666 Quit bitching get off the pot and buy the JVC...Gheeesh!
I love that they dropped 3D on this. 3D is a terrible gimmick and should be banned from all cinema. When I come to power, I'm going to round up every 3D copy of Avatar and throw them into the sea.
🤣🤣🤣 One of the problems with 3D is not 3D itself, but all the cheap "conversions" of normally 2D movies to 3D. To me, conversions are an abomination! All conversions suck, and unfortunately this gave 3D a bad reputation. The industry should've created a certification seal for real 3D movies so that people knew what to expect and avoid non-real 3D movies. Also, 3D can be used for other things such as 3D modeling and this projector could've been the answer to so many developers out there. But, oh well.
AGREED!
