James Knotts is my father, and let me tell you, his injuries were a lot worse than just a torn rotator cuff. When they threw him down like that, it also ripped the muscle in his arm in half. The surgeon wasn't even sure he was going to be able to repair it. My dad has been an honest, hardworking man all of his life and was a professional and hobby mechanic. Watching him not be able to do what he loves much anymore pisses me off to no extent. My dad does come off as a little rough around the edges, but he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He volunteered for years with the fire department and the abulance service because he enjoyed being able to help people and serve his community. In my entire life, I've only ever seen that man cry 3 times: when his mother passed away, when my first husband passed away (who he loved like a son), and when I picked him up from the jail. He's not a large man at all, and nothing like he used to be in his prime, but I'll never forget how small he felt while hugging me and sobbing while telling me that he thinks they broke his arm. There is so much more I could say, but I just so angry every time I think about it. They left my parents' front door open for hours until I was able to drive from PA down and pick my distraught mother up from work and start the process of trying to figure out how to bail him out and get her car back. Anyone could have just walked in. My parents don't have much, but they have worked for everything that they have, and it just makes so sad that this is how they treated him. My dad watches my nephew frequently, and they didn't even check to see if anyone else was there. What if he was inside taking a nap? He would have woke up completely alone. Thankfully, he didn't have him that day. Theres some other information that they are gathering up to send thats going to make this even more ridiculous, but I'll let him post that in a hopeful update.

There should really be very harsh punishment for a prosecutor that does not act on the officer's crimes and for pushing the case through. It helps up the in plea bargaining (plea guilty here and we won't charge you with x), 3. It ups the bail requirement, 4. Makes money for the local jurisdictions.

But this is going to continue to happen until law enforcement starts getting criminal charges like any other citizen would for the same exact crimes.. and it's not qualified immunity that keeps the officers from being criminally charged it's the police unions.. besides I don't understand how a civil court can find that officers violated somebody civil rights to the degree that the courts agree that the victim should be financially compensated for the police miss doing yet there's never any criminal charges the first thing after a successful civil rights lawsuit against individual officers should be criminal charges because the civil litigation when it is successful is proof of deprivation of Rights..

Cops don't have to know the laws they enforce though...
They essentially can go around and just do whatever they want to people in the performance of their duties...as long as it is "reasonable", with such a vague and ambiguous definition of "reasonable" they can get away with pretty much everything.
That is the exact definition of qualified immunity, but clearly they should not have been qualified in the first place.
I am sure it would be shocking to know how many people are sitting in prison right now because of false arrests, especially in the time period before body cams.
It is hilarious that cops still violate the shit out of people"s right, even with fully knowing their body cams are recording the entire interaction...
