- Four young airmen who crashed off Papua New Guinea have only recently been identified 81 years after going missing in action.
After ANZAC Day, the families and the Australian Air Force will farewell the four young men.
The find and identification was only made possible with the people of PNG and Fortescue Executive Chairman Andrew Forrest conducting his own search for his own uncle, who has been missing in action since 1943.
“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, in terms of working and dealing with the families who are all incredibly grateful that the search has been undertaken and they have this closure,” Minderoo Foundation Oceanomics Director Dr Steve Burnell said.
“Also wishing Andrew [Forrest] good luck in his own search.”
God Bless these young soldiers and their heartbroken families.
I worked with someone whose airman uncle was missing.
There are still hundreds missing in that part of the world.

It’s Rosemary. For remembrance.
Lest we forget.
On a day set aside for remembering, I'm sending out thoughts to all those who lost from listening to the rants of America's most incompetent one term mistake who promoted that covid 19 wasn't a threat.......🇺🇲
You are a Disrespectful POS. 🤡👈
The loss of the four Airmen is a tragedy.
Just note Sky News, it's ROYAL Australian Air Force, not simply 'Australian Air Force'.
RAAF is Correct.
RAF is British.
@@WitchDoctor.933 not quite sure what you're getting at - I was correcting them in their omission of the word royal with respect to the RAAF, which they simply referred to as Australian Air Force. RAF never even came into the discussion.
Oh the Heather Leaf huh. Rosemary is that part of Aus symbolism? Its Rosemary no? lol
Rosemary is a symbol of remembrance.
@@LestWeForget-LestWeForget Is nice stuffed into lamb aswell
This is not possible, President Biden said cannibals swim out and eat crashed airmen, just like Uncle Bosie. In all seriousness, God Bless them and their service and their ultimate sacrifice.
Nice they were found, especially for the families. No cannibals like Bidens .....
They went missing in an area where there were known cannibals
Rubbish!
.... from a District Officer who knows!
