Judge Dredd It's nothing against none of the other branches. We are just all competitive. At the end of the we all end up working together and win wars both foreign and domestic because we are the greatest fighting force in the world. No one is better than the mighty Army hoaah.
The thing most people who talk trash about the CG not being DOD fail to understand is the CG's unique federal law enforcement mission and how it is affected by the Posse Comitatus Act. The law prevents the government from using the military to enforce domestic laws, but with the CG not being DOD they can work around that.
Combat illegal drug trafficking fishery patrol environmental protection/cleanup. AIDS to navigation, law enforcement (to an extent) I did 8 years 1994-2002. I’m pretty sure that some things have changed. I know a lot of the rates have changed and new ones have been added and renamed
My dad said he was in for 4 years and all they did was nothing, and everyone would always die before he or someone he knew could get there to rescue them
I went through Navy bootcamp in 1974. I don't know why but this video brought me to tears. As much as I hated bootcamp it prepared me for the next three years of my Navy tour and it also prepared me for so many things I went through in my life afterwards. I look at these "kids" and am so so proud of them.
This video is pretty good but anyone who has ever been through any basic training in any branch of military ever knows that boot camp is something that can only be understood by those who have gone through it. Every branch's boot camp is going to be catered to the mission of the branch so they are all going to be different. It really doesn't matter which one is harder than the other. Find the branch performs the mission you want to be part of then sign up!

As a veteran who served in the Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968, I can say that I truly admire all Coast Guard personnel. I think that the biggest difference between the Coast Guard and the Marine Corps boot camps is that the Corps puts more emphasis on physical conditioning and rifle marksmanship. I salute all who brave the Coast Guard boot camp. To you I say, "Semper Fi."
Man, they go trough so much it’s honestly amazing how, not only do they get stronger physically, but also mentally and that’s what makes them become a better person, people might not know what the coast guard was when they where younger, but some of my friends back then( middle school) where like “oh I want to be a teacher” and I was “I want to become a coast guard”.As you can see I was a very unique child and my family did not approve at first but only a few more years and I’ll be where they are now.
I went though Cape May Boot Camp in August, 1957. Stayed in for 4 years, I am now 82 years old and have had a great career in law enforcement. I call it Coast Guard University. Every day of my life since has been affected by my Coast Guard education. My son went in at 18 and came back a different man. He just completed a career in law enforcement and his CG experience got him a great job in charge of a harbor police boat. I tell young people who mention military service, CHECK out the Coast Guard! Thanks for this video, it was enlightening to see how much things have changed.
AH, REMINDS ME OF MY TRAINING WHEN I JOINED THE U.S.C.G! I graduated high school in 1994. A few weeks before I did, I was sweet-talked into signing up to join the Coast Guard. I, bring 18 years old, and knowing everything assumed the training would be a breeze. After all, the Coast Guard isn't like the real military, right? WRONG!!! I learned in my first 5 minutes after arriving in Cape May that those Company Commanders are just as brutal as the Army or Navy! No, they didn't actually assault me, but they gave a through tongue lashing. The training was exhausting, it was exasperating, it was relentless, and it was relentless. I began thinking "Oh s***, what have I gotten myself into? Am I really stuck here for the next four years?! I was. The training is designed too tear you down, and then rebuild you. I was ripped, torn, and beaten down, and then I was rebuilt, overhauled, and made into a man! I served my time, and then went to college (thanks to the G.I. Bill), and am today an architect.
Timbrock1000 I apologize for being late.....but God bless you and thank you for serving our country 🇺🇸❤️👐 I myself am finishing up High School and want to go to college first before joining the Military someday, but am not sure which branch or what to do yet
Somewhere, I heard that the Coast Guard had an informal motto along the lines of "you have to go out, you don't have to come back"? Sounds pretty hardcore to me.
Husband was in the CG. You have to go out… you don’t have to come back. Cape May is an amazing place.😊 We are very proud of the fantastic men and woman in service. Retired now and living in a CG town, fun to walk down and talk with the young people. We are particularly proud of the all women crews. Especially when we watch them go out in horrible conditions to take a reading. We can see them laughing and having a good time. It’s like reliving your youth all over again.😊
I served 4 years in the Navy. 2 tours to Vietnam, 71/75. I’m not sure I would have made it thru Coast Guard bootcamp. Depending on circumstances, saving lives can be more satisfying than taking lives. It’s certainly harder to do. Thank you for providing the Shield around our Country while we sleep. Much respect……GMG3 USN
I was in the Marine Corps about the the same time you were 73-77. Yes Coast Guard boot camp is some what like the Marine Corps boot camp YELLING in your face 24/7... Semper Fi
I went through Cape May in ‘83…. This looks so modern and more comprehensive. We experienced less yelling and had no round tables with ferns in chow hall! Before and after my time in I’ve experienced ridicule as “cruel” by people who do not know USCG primary mission. I felt honored simply being designated rescue swimmer aboard my tough, old cutter. Some of the best I knew in service were Vietnam vet marines. They had been “beyond” and were capable laid back. Good on’ya all.
I went to the Coast Guard Academy this summer and got a week's look into how training is for SWAB's (cadets entering the academy) and I gained so much respect for the USCG. It's truly an organization of bravery, intensity, and heart.
I’m in the coast Guard with a prior service Army infantryman. He said “ I would rather go through Army boot camp again than coast guard, army is harder physically but the mental side of Coast guard boot makes it harder.”
@@roxanaavendano4069, unless you want to fight in a war, Coast Guard is a no brainer. I did six years in the CG and it was great. CG has same pay and benefits as the other services without dying in a war.

Did anyone know that in WW2, the CG lost more men per number in service than any other branch? Who do you think drove all the landing craft on D day? Who did the Germans shoot first when those craft came in to land. Coast Guardsmen.
Coast Guard has the second hardest boot camp Marine Corps being the hardest. I don’t care what anyone says they model their boot camp after Marine Corps and their swimming qual is tougher than the USMC and the Navy. Give credit where it’s due Coast Guard ain’t no cake walk.
That’s a negative on swim qual. I didn’t see them with an M16, flaks, Kevlar, full cammies and boots. Marine Corp has different swim quals for different MOS’s. Being I was in an infantry MOS, I can tell you that, that is not remotely true.
@@CD-pk7xr Well its kinda hard to Film 8 weeks worth of boot camp... Really, who cares about boot camp? Kids? That's only the beginning stage of the military. What matters is your contribution to the fight, boot camp is just a mind game for the weak to make them mentally and physically stronger. Every service member goes through basic and not everyone makes it through, yada, yada, yada
John on wives computer. Papa 52 graduate in 1963 when it was a 13 week boot camp plus one week in forming company. The training today is more focused, the equipment is much better but one thing obviously remains the same-The training is relentless and non stop. If one joins the CG thinking it is a sit around service then you are in for a huge surprise. When one goes out in foul weather, while others are snuggled in bed, one should know that in the Guard you WILL go out and you don't have to come back. The sea is a great and powerful force that can never be defeated. The best one can hope for is a tie.

Congrats to all the new Coast Guard boots ! And a big thanks to all that have served in the USCG, past and present. The operational demands on the Coast Guard grow substantially every year. Like every service branch, they are expected to do more and more every year, often times with the same or less material and financial support, to accomplish thier stated mission objectives. And yet they perform their jobs with the highest commitment to excellence and professionalism. A salute from a U.S. Submarine Service "boomer boat" veteran.
@@mroctober3657 An excellent book. I've read that one as well. All based on actual events that took place during the cold war years. It's a great read!
For those going to Cape May, I will tell you, this looks tougher than what I went through in 1982. It is demanding work being in the Coast Guard, but don't let certain "old Coasties" scare you.
If they were smart enough to join the Coast Guard they would have. I never saw someone leave the CG for another branch, but we constantly had prior Army, Marine, Navy, and even a couple Air Force.
GERMAN J0KER this is an actual branch of the military and before you bring up that it belongs to dept of defense remember that there are 2 branches of the military army and navy the airforce is a company and the marines is the navy's dept. And in times of war they help secure ports as well as assist in counter piracy ops in places such as the infamous gulf of aiden or through Panama even learn your shit ass mouth
How soon people forget that during war time the USCG becomes part of the U.S. Navy. Many CG personnel served in Vietnam during that war. The CG also chases drug and human smugglers. I bet CG sharpshooters can match any sharpshooter in the other services. Semper Fi, USMC, 2/5, Chu Lai, Nam.
I want to be in the Coast Guard when I graduate I watch this video everyday thinking how hard it looks but I have hopes that I can do it wish me luck ❤️
GO USCG! Oscar 135 here from '91, would not trade it for anything. Went on to USCGC WHEC 718 Chase as A gang/ BLT and C school Yorktown. Would not trade it for anything. Incredible people and facility. It was tough going the route from Boston to San Pedro through the ditch and are some of the best memories I have of the people I served with. I bleed Coasty and always will.
As a Marine, I respect the Coast Guard immensely. They have tough training and discipline. Highly unrated and coincidentally my principal from high school was also a Coast Guard vet from the 70s.
I remember watching my brother graduate hi first company as a company commander at cape may!! He went in the marines at 18, did 8 years then joined the coast guard and is still in 25 years later! He had to go through a camp to become a company commander and said that was harder than Paris island!! That says something for the coast guard!!
Much Respect! Though many Americans could and should know more, you folks do your jobs, save people ALL of the time, and are proud military operators. God bless the US Coast Guard.
Slurpey I can't speak for everyone but as for myself I only talk crap about "Coasties" when they try to convince me that they are in the military. I know that times have changed since I was in the Navy. When I served there was no Homeland Security yet. The Coast guard was part of the Department of Transportation unless during time of war. The Coast Guard does some amazing stuff no doubt. That still doesn't make them part of the military. If the Coast Guard becomes a part of the DoD and the 5th branch of the military I have zero problems with it. Until then just be proud of your service for what it is. It's sad when people can't be proud of there professional career. Think about how sad and pathetic it looks when a cop pretends like they are like an FBI agent or SWAT is somehow Special Forces. They might have the same gear but they aren't the same thing. Can you see what I mean? As for saving lives, ALL branches of the military save lives. That's the whole point of the military. We serve and protect our constitutional way of life. Some missions involve taking life while others involved shielding life. They are both equally important to securing our freedoms. The Coast Guard does the life saving, shore patrol thing very well. That's great and all but I'm not going to say that saving lives is more important than taking lives. That's just silly, juvenile, romanticism of what the "Coasties" core mission is versus the military core mission. Anyway, believe it or not as a Navy veteran I wish everyone in the Coast Guard the best. I hope that one day the Coast Guard can share the pride of being in the military and our good natured inter-service rivalries. Truth is we need Puddle Pirates as much as we need Jarheads. In the end the trash talk doesn't matter one bit because I would give my life for the sailor, soldier or marine standing the line with me. End of story! Have a nice day!
I entered cape may nj on dec1 1949 We were told to recite the motto semper paratus "always ready" forget it this the real coast guard motto "You have to go out but you don't have to come back We repeated this motto thru out boot camp I was sent to the Asian waters for two years during the Korean war We were equipped with 24 ft monoboy surf boats for rescue powered by oarsmen sometimes in number seven seas came back in number nine breaking the gunnel when we were driven in to the side of the ship Spent days in a typhoon off the coast of Japan We were on a 7 mile grid station when we notified naval headquarters of the upcoming threat Their reply was simple "Stand fast." We were tough our deck force loved action on the sea and on liberty Some spent time in the marine brig till we shipped out When someone says shallow water sailors I tell them I received five ribbons one from the united nations citation to a medal from the governor of my state for dedication and bravery I returned to an enlistment office in my home town I told it just like it was I also told them that I served on a tin can and two aircraft carriers before I enlisted This was the service for me

Insert uneducated other military branch comments trash talking the Coast Guard here. Acting like we’re not on the same side lol I’ve never understood that. P-190!
I always find it odd those that cannot jab back amd fourth and get butt hurt. Does it make you feel inferior when they talk trash or like you need to defend the USCG training. What is it about those few navy,af, and uscg guys that get so butthurt when army or usmc talks shit them? Just talk shit back it will be much funner.
It's not so much the shit talking as it is who is doing it and where. I have trained with Marines and Navy personnel and yes we talk a little shit back and forth, but it is usually done with a smile on our faces and to someone we know. You don't walk up to a random stranger and just start spewing out shit and not expect an equally negative response. Now onto the "where", UA-cam is FULL of dipshits who couldn't make it in any branch basic training and yet they talk shit behind an anonymous username. The few military personnel who talk a little smack on here usually throw in something at the end to let us know that they are just playing and it's all good.

If they started training with real fire the likelihood of injuries would increase. so they start without to prevent injuries until the recruits have a basic understanding of what they need to do.
Todd Sterben Yeah they need to have them dressing out in the dark while taking seas. Even during the day would be interesting. Done it myself. Just on an Army vessel instead.
Does your pride really come from how hard your basic training was? Or does it come from the brotherhood you established in your respective service? Im just a poolie leaving for bootcamp in MCRD on the 23rd but from my perspective any service seems honorable. Think about all the people who are too afraid, lazy or incompetent to even learn about a branch service. Be proud of what you've accomplished. But be more prideful of what you become.

Basic Training difficulty goes: 1. Marines + Coast Guard (Marines harder physically, Coast Guard harder mentally) 2. Army + Navy. 4. Air Force. Training goes based on the job we have to do in our respective branches. It’s not about trying to flex muscles and act like our training was harder just because we think our branch is better. People don’t know much about the Coast Guard, which is understandable since it’s so small, but if you look up the statistics you’ll see. Marines need to be very tough for the special missions they have to accomplish, which is why their training is more extensive than the Army’s. They accomplish the smaller, more physically demanding and under the radar missions. Coast Guard is different because they’re the only branch that’s DHS and not DOD and they do search and rescue along with law enforcement. Every second could be the difference between life and death in a search and rescue case and they’re trained to make every one count, kind of like minutemen. They also require the highest ASVAB test scores, although that’s not a very big deal. Army and Navy make up the main power of the U.S. Military but their sheer manpower makes them take up the larger, less specialized missions, which means they don’t need as extensive training. They’re the force that’ll charge in to another country and accomplish their mission with numbers and power. Air Force is the last simply because their main focus is to control the skies and they do the least amount of boots-to-ground missions and combat.
I was in the company featured in this video (x194) and I can tell you right now this video makes it look like a cake walk. The thing most people who talk trash about the CG not being DOD fail to understand is the CG's unique federal law enforcement mission and how it is affected by the Posse Comitatus Act. The law prevents the government from using the military to enforce domestic laws, but with the CG not being DOD they can work around that.
The only branch that doesnt catch flak is the marines. Cause the marines kick ass

I went through Navy bootcamp in 1974. I don't know why but this video brought me to tears. As much as I hated bootcamp it prepared me for the next three years of my Navy tour and it also prepared me for so many things I went through in my life afterwards. I look at these "kids" and am so so proud of them.
I also went to Navy bootcamp in 1974. Great Lakes. Company 165. I can still remember days like it was yesterday.

And to you I say semper paratus. Brother. Happy vets day
Thank you, sir, and thank you for your service.
Respect to these guys. Thanks for serving our country to protect us.

I apologize for being late.....but God bless you and thank you for serving our country 🇺🇸❤️👐 I myself am finishing up High School and want to go to college first before joining the Military someday, but am not sure which branch or what to do yet

I agree. First bootcamp I see that is worthy of my consideration, other than the Corps. Almost
Yeah I had 2 prior service marines in my company, cool guys
This was beautifully shot, produced and edited. I felt every second of what these amazing young people experience. Great job!
Promise you you’ll always miss the boredom the comes from the attention to detail portion of the job.

That’s a negative on swim qual. I didn’t see them with an M16, flaks, Kevlar, full cammies and boots. Marine Corp has different swim quals for different MOS’s. Being I was in an infantry MOS, I can tell you that, that is not remotely true.

Really, who cares about boot camp? Kids? That's only the beginning stage of the military.

Slurpey every branch can send you back to training day 1
Slurpey they go into hurricanes for Pete’s sake. They’re heroes just as much as any other vet.
that wasn't the statement...the statement was other enlisted personnel are trash talking the USCG. Read before you comment.
For failure to continue thats about it.
I entered cape may nj on dec1 1949 We were told to recite the motto semper paratus "always ready" forget it this the real coast guard motto "You have to go out but you don't have to come back We repeated this motto thru out boot camp I was sent to the Asian waters for two years during the Korean war We were equipped with 24 ft monoboy surf boats for rescue powered by oarsmen sometimes in number seven seas came back in number nine breaking the gunnel when we were driven in to the side of the ship Spent days in a typhoon off the coast of Japan We were on a 7 mile grid station when we notified naval headquarters of the upcoming threat Their reply was simple "Stand fast." What is it about those few navy,af, and uscg guys that get so butthurt when army or usmc talks shit them? Just talk shit back it will be much funner.
It's not so much the shit talking as it is who is doing it and where. I have trained with Marines and Navy personnel and yes we talk a little shit back and forth, but it is usually done with a smile on our faces and to someone we know. You don't walk up to a random stranger and just start spewing out shit and not expect an equally negative response. Now onto the "where", UA-cam is FULL of dipshits who couldn't make it in any branch basic training and yet they talk shit behind an anonymous username. Harder then army boot camp I call bullshit on that
Fire fighting training with no fire? That's lame.
They do use real fire as the progress through the training.
If they started training with real fire the likelihood of injuries would increase. so they start without to prevent injuries until the recruits have a basic understanding of what they need to do.
They do not use real fire in boot camp at any stage
They do in the Navy, lots of it. I was there.
Todd Sterben Yeah they need to have them dressing out in the dark while taking seas. Even during the day would be interesting. Done it myself. Just on an Army vessel instead.
Does your pride really come from how hard your basic training was? Or does it come from the brotherhood you established in your respective service? Basic Training difficulty goes:
1. Marines + Coast Guard (Marines harder physically, Coast Guard harder mentally)
