My transplant is very small. It's been years and it's still the same size. It will only grow one leaf at a time. The roots aren't crowded. I'm baffled. As a child we grew these up to the ceilings. We'd have to cut them down every few years. The pot it sat in was so huge it took two or three of the uncles to move it. All of the family had cuttings in their homes. All of them had huge pots. We didn't do anything special, just watered them and turned them once per week or when we remembered. My gran talked to all of her plants and shined the leaves with mayonnaise. LOL 😂😂
What outdoor temperature can they tolerate? I am in northern California and in winter cold temperatures in winter time go as low as 35 degrees then heats up during the day can be up to 65+ degrees and in summer time it's warmer ofcourse but night temperatures can be rather cold in wine country TIA
Such a nice knowledgeable video. At my home one of dieffenbechia plant having shrink leaves and tips are getting brown and falling off. Please help me to correct it's issue.
I got this plant on clearance but I think I'm killing it. It never has more than one leaf on it at the same time. It sucks because I see all these beautiful specimens on your channel
I have a very large dumbcane propagated a long time ago and grown only in water. Its stem is very long. Can I propagate more by cutting it into those 4-6in pieces and putting them in only water as well, somehow?
Question: Can I cut off the upper part of a strong Dieffenbachie, remove the lower leaves of this part and then plant them? If so, does the remaining part of the plant, which would then still have leaves, sprout again or continue to grow? Thank you!
Hi. I cut my Mother's down, it started to curve when it reached her ceiling and was way too heavy for her to handle, she had to secure it to her stairs, I cut a 5ft piece of the stem, into 2 pieces a 2ft and a 3ft piece, planting both upright in the soil. My question for you is? I repotted both in a large pot with lots of soil, with a support stick because the stem/body was so thick and heavy a small pot wouldn't hold the plants up. Can I cut a stem put it in water and will root's grow? also are these disease-prone to fungus, that you notice, or have had a problem with any type of insects that target this plant. Thank You Sunny
saad jaha kayani Dumb canes are very slow growing plants just keep taking care of it and wait. And maybe add some all purpose fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. :)

Nodnarb Rekab Thanks for commenting. Both sanseveria and dieffenbachia are called by mother in laws tongue- ref : en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieffenbachia
Kitchen Gardening it seems you're right, my apologies! My dad kept this plant and sanseveria for many years and I never heard that before, thanks for the info
Yes only if ingested or u ate it just make sure to use gloves I don't use gloves when handling it in a couple times my skin. Irritated on my arms I had a little rash but other than that I've been good just make sure you use gloves I don't always use them and because of that I got a little rash in my hands but other than that I was fine do not put your hands in your mouth if you are touching the plants without gloves
Help! I've had my dumb cane for many years and recently I found it flopped over on the floor. It's about 5 feet tall with 5 mature leaves and 1 new leaf still curled up. The main stem is now curved and being held up by 2 stakes. Is it dying? Can this occur from under watering or Is it too top heavy?
It’s a very hardy plant. Just trim it to your desired level or push it deeper into the soil for support. Avoid hot direct sun except morning sun. Do not water too much. It will pick up again.
tina110808 WOW, I came home this morning to find mine the SAME WAY!! I Know it is top heavy .... but the main stem was so fat and sturdy! I was shocked. And figured I should repot in a deeper pot. Whew. I hope you were able to fix/secure/save your dumb cane/diefenbachia plant. They are Beautiful!
tina110808 thanks for replying, Tina! Glad to hear it’s still growing and I’m sure Beautiful! I’ve procrastinated All day and haven’t cut it it yet. I feel it’s too heavy up top so I’ll have to cut and I want to put it in glass vases for propagation. It’s my first one and I’ve had it for a year. I’m watching more vids to get up the nerve. And I will use gloves. Thanks ✋🏽💚🤚🏽
Maine es plant ko 25 din pahle buy kiya thaa, ab iski three leaves yellow - brown ho gyi h, or aaj unko meine hata diya h, kya mera plant achhe se growth karega
I could not understand most of what you were saying. Your (Latino?) accent was just too heavy for me. Could you post English subtitles? I came to your channel to learn how to propagate a leaf which fell off a mature plant.
I understood him perfectly. Try a little harder instead of complaining. And if you still can't understand it, just go to a plant store. Maybe someone will speak without an accent there.
This comment is just a subtle expression of the person’s black heart. If you have a problem with someone trying to help others and even speaking their non-native language to do so, and all you can express is your disdain, you are a miserable person. I am sure those closest to you would agree or are also complaining, blaming, and hating folks. You’ll find you’d be so much happier if you saw the positive in life.
Thank you for the information. I found this video very helpful in pruning my 4 year old dieffenbachia.
"This plant is toxic, make sure to wear gloves" - touches plant all over with bare hands 😄
Nessa Nessa it’s just the juice from the stems and leaves when broken
They aren't toxic just touching them lol. Only the sap if they break.

Hi, Leeluv. Wow, the same story as my Mom and all she does is water. I wanted to shine my leaves up, did the mayo attract nats?
Ohy goodness If you want music in the background please have it a decent volume so we can hear what you saying.
Interesting video. Thank you for the uploads.
Love from Singapore😘

Yes it actually does root from a stem piece and I have done that successfully.

Both are.

How can my plant start having more leaves; what shall I do?
Add compost like vermicompost or Cowdung decomposed once in 3 months.
Is it plant poisonous please tell me
As per today's news of UC browser
Yes it is, but its effect is temporary. U become dumb transiently, hence called dumb cane.
Yes only if ingested or u ate it just make sure to use gloves I don't use gloves when handling it in a couple times my skin. Fertilize every fortnight?
2 weeks
How much water ? How often ?
Weekly twice I do, but depends on ur zone. Now in this season weekly once. It needs less frequent watering.
I water once a week. How much depends on the pot and plant size. Usually about a cup and a quarter. 12 ti 13 ounces
I have a baby one growing but not sure when to change the pot. Anyone know?
I need to know also
Background music is annoying I can't hear you well :-(
Please help me for the take care always I'll buying plans always died My all 🌱 Thank you
the music is so noisy
Is it poisonous?
ua-cam.com/video/zceK_TLNnvY/v-deo.html
👍
if this is really poisonous, why we continue to care for this plant .
It's a beauty
Maine es plant ko 25 din pahle buy kiya thaa, ab iski three leaves yellow - brown ho gyi h, or aaj unko meine hata diya h, kya mera plant achhe se growth karega
Neelam Duhan Hi, please watch ua-cam.com/video/2ullQwnB6ms/v-deo.html
Removing bad leaves is good for the plant.
Music sound is louder.... can't hear what you're saying
Your voice is intimidated by that background music.
Please remove the music we would like to hear your knowledge and focus on your notes . Thanks
I think this is not mother in law s tongue.....
Hi, mother in laws tongue names for 2 plants one sanseviera or snake plant and other one is Dieffenbachia.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieffenbachia
Otis hi how are u
Pls mute the background music .......
I could not understand most of what you were saying. Your (Latino?) accent was just too heavy for me. Could you post English subtitles? I came to your channel to learn how to propagate a leaf which fell off a mature plant.
Hi. This is a very old video of my channel. I had no much idea about making videos that time. Please watch my recent videos.
Regards
Wq
For a beginner I found this video terrible for instructions
I don't understand what you're saying. It's not very clear.
I apologise ! It’s an old video. I had less knowledge on technical aspects. Please watch my latest videos at UA-cam.com/gardentips
Mother in law tongue is the snake plant, not the dumbcane
I’m sorry but the music and the accent combined made this useless.
Difficult to understand you....
Judy Hines Hi, perhaps background music is lil high, please comment on my most recent videos and please suggest me Corrections. Am from India.
These are poison plant
Wow. This video was so not helpful
I hate this plant plz avoid
May I know the reason?
For crying out loud!! IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO SPEAKS CLEAR ENGLISH WHO CAN GIVE STRAIGHT FORWARD INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS?!!
KlassyKat45 please don’t make us English speakers look bad bro
Make your own video then.
I understood him perfectly. Try a little harder instead of complaining. And if you still can't understand it, just go to a plant store. Maybe someone will speak without an accent there.
The only issue here was the music was a bit too loud. His accent is so gorgeous and he spoke perfect English. Yikes. lol so much for "klassy".
