    My 5 yr old son asked me if you’re the “girl from Pirates of the Caribbean”. I giggled & replied with, “No but she kind of looks like her.” 2 minutes into this video, he then asked, “Is she a plant doctor?” Lol😂

    I'm glad I stumbled upon this video! I got a small dieffenbachia a couple months ago, and it immediately started having issues and wilting leaves. I had to prune it back to just two surviving leaves at the time, and repotted it just in case there was an issue with the soil.
    The real issue was with lighting. I don't have great windows, and didn't have bright lighting at the time, so though it survived and recovered, it wasn't putting out new growth. I installed new lights and it's been growing steadily ever since. Three new leaves in two weeks! And it looks like another stem may come out soon.

    Many people say that overwatering is bad for Dieffenbachia, but I have multiple Dieffenbachia growing directly in water (man-made fountain/pond) for years, and they are lush and grow quicker than the ones potted in growing mix.

    I got some at my big box store on sale for $2 USD. They’re not in the best shape but I’m used to rehabbing, growing from itty bitty cuttings. Thanks for the recommendation! I want to get the big leaf type you have, but seeing Sean’s videos of the plant in Indonesia, I may way for some of those to come here cheaper!

    Mine is very robust and lives in front of a frosted window by the front door. It has doubled in size since last year. I water when the soil is dry about two inches down as it is in a two gallon pot. I don't always give it a full drenching except during spring and summer waterings.

      I tried that with my Camille. It went well at first, but weirdly enough, it seemed to really go down hill after a while.
      Like, it went well at first, but it started leaking water out of the leaves constantly, and eventually (I'm assuming because of the constant water on the leaves) the leaves started dying back, like it had been light deprived despite being on a western window sill. Like, it almost looked like the symptoms of rot you get when a plants in too low of light.
      I've grown it in soil since, and it did better, and I've recently just moved it to semi-hydro, and it seems to have started unfurling a leaf since it's been in there (hopefully it'll take off in spring now that I've bought the root stimulant and bio-stimulant from nurture system) but yeah, it was weird.

    Greetings Claire! What variety of aglaonema is that at minute 2:51? I gave exactly that to my sister yearsssss ago, many years before I ever became a happy, experienced plant parent. I didn't even know what I was giving her back then, neither did she, lol. I went to look over for her plants just today (she isn't "planty" but it's THRIVING!), decided to finally ID it and suddenly happened upon it here, woohoo! How lucky is that!
    EDIT: Nope what I gave her is definitely a dieffenbachia. :)

    I recently bought a Dieffenbachia from a local Aldi store and like most supermarket plants it seems to have 7 or 8 plants in the same 15cm pot, the plant is quite healthy but looks a bit untidy but bushy.
    Question: Should I split the plants and repot singularly or leave it as it is?

    This is literally perfect timing! I just got one 2 weeks ago and I’m learning 😬 I got a grow light for it and it really seems to like that! I didn’t think it was “droopy” but after one day under the light it is so much taller and fuller looking. But I’ve got a couple of yellow leaves seemingly from nowhere. But it’s also still putting out new leaves. Also I just gave it it’s first watering because I didn’t know when it was last watered from the person I got it from

    My mom had a dieffenbachia left from the 70’s growing up. She called it dumb cane. I thought that was dumb name. She always told us it was toxic. For those reasons I have never liked dieffenbachia. I also don’t like macrame because she had some plants in macrame hangers. I am biased against leftovers from the 70’s.

    • @TheJungleHaven
      @TheJungleHaven  3 місяці тому +2

      Sometimes when you transition a plant to a new way of growing it'll get rid of old leaves as a stress response. Give it a few weeks to settle into it's new way of growing. Slightly increasing light and temperature should help it to adapt faster!
