How JJ Redick Transformed His Career From Bust To An All Time Great Shooter! Stunted Growth
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лип 2024
- One thing I admire about the sharp shooting JJ Redick, is how he transformed his nearly bust like beginning to a solid 15 year career. At Duke, he shot 40% for his career from 3, with a career high 42% his senior year, all ACC twice along with 2 player of the years. He did everything but win a championship, leaving the program as one of the best players ever for Duke and their all time leading scorer. He was as you could always tell, a hard worker, and not many would out effort him on any level when it came to basketball, more specifically shooting and preparation. Redick approached basketball with a scientific strategy, mapping out entire days to make the most of the limited physical gifts he was given. But initially in Orlando as the 11th pick, he struggled and nearly became a bust. Here's how he transformed his career, and became one of the game's greatest shooters.

Beautiful shooting form, great meticulous work ethic, determination, even when he was a bust his first few years. Transformed into a solid career. Salute.
It is extraordinary how JJ improved from season to season.
He looked like Adam Morrison his first year.
Now he's one of the greatest shooters of all time
Can you make one for Willie Cauley Stein
I hated Duke, but was so happy when JJ broke out with Milwaukee. He earned it.
Was he a bust or was he just injured/not given a chance
TODAY'S LESSON.....
it's not how you start....
But how you finish.
Appreciate the motivation💯
💯
I'm feeling the whole "stunt/transformation" aspect of this one. I think you got a whole new set of videos you can do with that.
Absolutely!
Agree
Don't know if you've done a video on him or not, but what about Fred Van Vleet going from undrafted, to highest-paid undrafted All-Star?🤔
Woah yeah, good call!
Jimmer Fredette should have sad down with Reddick if he wanted to make it in the league
Facts
I like this version of Stunted Growth. “Transformed” I hope you make this a series
As a UNC men’s basketball team fan, I wanted so much to hate JJ I really did. However he worked hard and I respected his game and at the time he had the second best shooting form/mechanics I’d ever seen.
Same. this guy used to cook UNC
I liked Reddick as a ball player. But I like him more as a commentator. Especially the way he COOKS Stephen A. Smith in debates.
I like what you did with the stunted transformation. I hope you use this twist on some more vids. Im a Duke fan and have always been a huge Redick fan. I'm glad he had such a nice NBA career
JJ Redick is an NCAA 🐐
I can still remember considering JJ a BUST his first few seasons, but mad respect to JJ for sticking in there on the hard work.
I honestly believe that Orlando was one of the few places he could get drafted and not be a bust considering they were pacing and spacing before it became trendy.
@@raymondsmith2040 but he was a bust playing in Orlando can you explain your comment
Will you do bimbo coles? Us bronze medalist, Virginia tech all time leading scorer, assists and steals, did a decade in the league as a role player
Excellent video bro👍🏿🏀
I like the ‘transformation’ series. Well articulated video bro🔥
One of my favorite videos bro
Part of his early “bust” was the nba not valuing his skill set the way they would today. Until his final half season with the magic he averaged under 4 3’s per game
Also from what I’ve heard him say on “old man and the 3” he developed the most precise preparation in the league
JJ did it against all odds, much respect to an outstanding career and best in his draft class.
No matter which team I played in Myleague on 2k between 14-19, always signed him as a free agent or traded for him
Coming from a Carolina fan JJ is definitely a legend on the college level
Reddick owes his NBA career to the Magics style of basketball back in the late 2000s. Orlando was way ahead of the curve when it came to pace and space basketball and as the league followed suit his style of game became more of a commodity.
One of my all-time favorite college players to watch back then...
Honestly a very cool video-nice job SG!
One of the all time greatest college to pro journeys of all time
6:25 I think you brought up the wrong draft class my guy
Long time Duke fan here (since 1990 - thanks Dad)! JJ was playing during my high school days which made me spend much of my gym class days behind the arc. Probably #6 or #7 on my all-time “Brotherhood” list
Brotherhood - best duke players? If so laettner number one grant hill 2 who else in the top 10? I’m guessing Hurley number 3 jay williams Carlos boozer Shane battier all somewhere in the top 10 I’m guessing
Hello from Finland. I would love to see a episode about Ron Rutland. He was an NBA-level player, but maybe was too little and that's why never got picked? He played here in Finland and Europe. He is american and naturally played there too. And Anthony Cade was an american player who played here, and Eddie Washington. @Nokia, Finland. Lot of great talents played/plays at Nokia & Tampere. Love your show! Keep it going.
Why is the 1995 draft being shown @6:25 ??
Karlton Hines
Reddick is my favorite college player. I was ecstatic when he came to Dallas for a yr or so
He was a great college player, and an even better pro.
Ben Gordon one of your favorites and that busted ass photo the only one you can find…. Do a stunted growth on luka Garza
Do DANTE EXUM never knew what happened I remember it was super hype over him after the fiba under 18 they gave him a story line in 2k my career before he even played a game 😂 it was crazy
They did
My favorite Duke player
JJ was underrated for so long. iirc, he’s the only player to play for that many teams and never miss the playoffs? Teams were under valuing shooting / spacing for so long - he was belong avg as a 1v1 defender but he competed and knew all the rotations. Nowadays being weak 1v1 isn’t as big a deal as team often wants opponents to play iso ball.
One of my favorites
Do the Orlando magic penny and shaq era
Stuntedgrowth did a Stunted growth on penny Hardaway and he mentioned about penny career with the magic with shaq
Outstanding career. I thought this guy was gonna be a hugeeeeeee bust in the NBA and gone in a few years.
Like jimmer
Same here, I was guilty of calling him a bust in his third year.
Great video as usual. I had no idea JJ was on the Bucks
Ben Jordan and Jay Williams was a beast. Jay use to piss me off when he'd play against my team. Dude was unstoppable.
Good video...
My suggestion:
How bout Goran Dragic
How was he ever considered a bust? JJ been solid since he got in the league much to my surprise. Considering he wasn't even a top 10 pick I don't think he was a bust at any point
His first 3 years he was considered a bust. Do you not understand that?
@@poloregal A bust is someone that does not live up to expectation or take advantage of the opportunities given. JJ just wasn't getting the minutes but once he did he made the most out of them. Also what kind of expectations did people have for him coming in? Bc college players like JJ either end up like Jimmer or Adam Morrison, or they end up like Kyle Korver. Did you expect JJ to be perennial all-star or what cuz I didn't and don't know anyone who did think that
He can be on my team any day definitely got a bucket for you on 2k
Antwan Jamison
Would like a Chris Mullin vid mate🤙🤙✌️
He was perfect for that Sixers squad
I thought he was gonna be a little better than he was. Took him time to find his place, probably the teams he was in, but a solid nba career. Only missed the playoffs once. Will be on ESPN for a long time, if he doesn't do nothing dumb.
Another great video. But I thought all the stuttering of the game footage was distracting.
🙌
Lmao why he put Ben Gordon face up there like that 😂😂😂😂
That's how we gonna know him by, that mugshot 😂😂😂
Please I beg you’ve referenced Ben Gordon a fair bit just make a stunted growth on him
Finally a positive video
I used to love JJ.
Hit me wit the crossover wit Ben Gordon 😂
JT don't do that to Ben lol.
Tht Ben Gordon pic is foul lol
And honestly I never considered JJ a bust ( I may have some sixers bias loved him when he was here lol ) kind of like how the league affected the big men when they changed due to Steph, JJ had to deal with the league being different at the time when he came and plus I remember a quote of him saying he didn't expect to have a major career or something along those lines after graduation
Can u do dion waters , Hassan whiteside or renardo Sidney ?
My top 5 college players that I seen live on tv or at an arena are, Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Richard Hamilton, Ron artest, god shamgod
You didn’t have to do my boy Benny G like that 🤣
He got better and more recognition once he left the magic.
He not only changed as a player, but as a man too, he was extremely cocky, than after being exposed at the next level he put his head down and worked his tail off to revive his career
JJ Reddick just looks like a cast member of American Pie
Damn bro I would’ve never know Ben Gordon was arrested if you didn’t put his mug shot in there 🤦🏽♂️😂
Seth Curry. Started out averaging 20 pts in his Freshmen year in college with Liberty and was on a Steph Curry trek, but then he transferred to Duke and went undrafted. He's had a solid career for someone undrafted, but he could have done a lot better. He could have stayed at Liberty or if exposure was the issue, why not go to Va Tech(Dell's school) to play in the ACC
I feel like he somehow influenced Steph game.
He's going to have a nice retirement check. 15 years ain't bad 👍🏽
Why you do my boy Ben Gordon Like that fam. 😂
man, it hurts to watch this video, I stopped midway.
slow down on the special effects bro.
1:25 lol who favorite rapper is this ???
I don't know why he's on stunted growth, he had a VERY good college career, and Good/ reasonably lengthy professional career
You need to read and pay attention to the video buddy. He called this one “Transformed”
@@emmanueloppong9778 he's also has the word "Bust" in there. JJ was a young player coming into the league trying to understandably adjust to the next level. He did that and as I said had a Good/reasonably lengthy professional career.
@@nikeetime7581 Did you watch the video? Thats what he said. And again read what he wrote in the title man. He is not calling JJ a bust
I agree
@@emmanueloppong9778 this guy’s the reason the country is the way it is today😂 no comprehension and just jumping the gun
Idk how ppl hated reddick at one time
Do nick irvin stunted growth
He was close to being out the league early too
aaannd Ben Gordon.. 💀
Was never a champion like JJ Barea ?
Hey, he actually had an in-game dunk!
Do Salim Stoudamire. He was a much better shooter than JJ Redick the same year they were in college.
Was a beast at Arizona!! Should have taken them to the Final Four his senior year
Kyle Lowry would be perfect for this series
What's up with the red eyes Stunted Growth?
Ben Gordon 🤣🤣
Just a bigger John Paxson Steve Kerr. Got lucky n found his niche.
Wack for not having Juan Dixon among the top five college players
maybe could've been an all-star (like Korver) if he didn't have t-rex arms, as he was undersized to begin with
Sniper
I think the definition of a role player is not someone who's averaging 16-18 ppg?
The real question is why did JJ Redick keep getting chances after it appeared he was a bust?
ben gordon... wtf was that🤣
Jj was a guy who played good but only for the money
JJ Redick’s transformation could’ve been Jimmer Fredette as well if he worked hard and didn’t come in with that (alleged) entitled attitude.
Thats wild you say Ben Gordon is in your top 5 favorite college players yet you use that unflattering pic. Cheap
That’s on Ben.. the mugshot is out there for the world stop crying
Isma'il Muhammad please.
It's starting to become redundant with this "unathletic" label. It's really ironic that it's always towards "certain" people.
Y’all will do anything for a hug from this preppy boy redick. Sad. If he’s an all time great shooter in this era don’t tell me players from the 60s can’t play today.
4:02 what's a swagger? Sheeet that word makes me cringe...
An "unathletic" dude just won the slam dunk contest this past year
I can't watch this one. These stutter effects are terrible.
All time?? Are you on drugs? Guy averaged 12 2 2 those are pedestrian numbers. And his playoff & finals numbers are actually lower than those that of his regular season. So yeah I can't ride with u on this on. You wrong
He wasted 4/5 years on the bench
All time great what?
Dude was a scrub
All time great shooter lol. Stop
In my opinion, he wasnt a very good player. I like the channel though.
Who would you consider a good role player?
@@emmanueloppong9778 Steve Kerr for the Bulls, 3 point daggers. The Spurs had great 3 point shooters to supplement Tim Duncan during his multiple Championship runs. I wouldn’t want to count on Reddick to hit a 3.
@@kevinconnor3187 I don't think even Steve Kerr would say that but ok.
@@emmanueloppong9778 I would lump Reddick with Tim Hardaway, Bet the under if they were in the lineup.
@@kevinconnor3187 Tim Hardaway is a hall of famer. Are you saying you would take Steve Kerr over Tim?
