Chris Webber to Mitch Albom "They are getting $85 dollars for a Jersey with my name on it and I can't afford to get a pizza". The NCAA is the true antagonist in this story.

Chris Webber came from a middle class Family, Father worked for auto manufacturer and Mother was a school teacher. Loved to portray himself as coming from the ghetto. That wasn't true. He could afford a pizza

The University of Michigan is the true antagonist. They were knowingly letting a criminal launder illegal money through their basketball program to get high level players. Ed Martin got all that money from an illegal gambling operation that he conducted at Ford auto plants. To launder the money he made, he'd entice high level recruits with the promise of money, then when they did play for Michigan, he'd loan them hundreds of thousands of dollars with the intent they'd pay him back after going pro.

Jalen already did a funny video about the 81 scored on him.
it was a few years back, on the now defunct *Grantland* channel, w/ David Jacoby.
it was part of their *"Jalen & Jacoby"* show, called *"Story Time w/ Jalen Rose"* .
      *ESPN:* ua-cam.com/video/JdXXdXReIJQ/v-deo.html
*_note:_* since *ESPN* has all the video/content rights of *Grantland* , i think they might've shortened the video linked above & made it more family friendly (& less _in your face_ ) then the video originally was.

C-Webb is comfortable in his own skin after having a successful pro career that is worthy of HOF consideration and should have been in before T-Mac was ever considered.. Jalen on the other hand, while not a scrub, is best known for his Fab Five career than pro career. C-Webb was a winner at each of his pro stops. He put the Sacramento Kings on the map and was the victim of a more heinous sports crime in the rigging of the 2002 WCF.

I can tell you Chris Webber’s side of the story right now: he accepted some money because he was a kid who didn’t fully appreciate the ramifications and then he accidentally made a mental mistake at the end of a nationally televised most important game of his career to that point despite being a peak athlete because he was mentally exhausted and like 20 years old at that point. He denied accepting the money because of the legal ramifications probably as the advice of council around him and then admitted it to the lie in order save his ass just before he felt it was going to become evident he lied. People and media have constantly beat up on him his whole adult life because it’s easy to do and they don’t fully appreciate the hard work it takes to become that level of an athlete. And he is therefore suspicious of media and people. He by nature is also probably a little introverted even if he forces himself to act differently in public. He doesn’t hate Rose but feels betrayed by him because of all the people who have told him to apologize and have criticized him, Rose is the most similar to him given their history. He expected Rose to be more empathetic and faces a dissonance in which he must decide if Rose truly does not understand where he is coming from or if Rose has sold him out. Chris has a hard time understanding the actions of Rose given Rose’s extroverted tendencies. Rose did not truly “sell out” Webber but was repeating things that were already said but given his job the book and personality traits it’s easy to see why Chris took it that way. Obviously Chris doesn’t feel like he should apologize because he feels misunderstood and doesn’t want to speak up because it’s not fair to him to be in a position where that’s the only way people will have more empathy for him despite it not being their business.
This is not rocket science you guys. Also fantastic mini-doc btw!

The next season, the 5 starting Sophmores again made it to the Title game.
They were huge. They were legends. The entire College game hated them. All the other teams, players, announcers, broadcasters were against them.

At some point probably after the 30 for 30, and maybe even after the Dan Patrick interview, Rose could've and should've killed the whole thing by not speaking on it anymore. Or do you confront it and the truth be known?

It's none of Jalen's business, tbh. Ed (if he had lived) was going to get his own revenge on Chris by testifying against him. Why does Jalen have such a hard on to make Webber be an honest man? If he were really his friend, why didn't Jalen confront Chris in private first? And who would Chris be apologizing to because Ed Martin is dead? Chris is no angel but this comes off passive aggressive AF with ulterior motives on Jalen's part.
